Every city, even small ones, has at least one Chinese buffet just like Dragon Palace King Buffet in Paso. I've been in several times, and it's consistent. Have been going here last 2 years, always take-out, never the buffet, never great food, but Paso is Asian food challenged based on living in Bay Area and SoCal where very plentiful, affordable and high quality. That being said, we would get the fried rice and chow mien, which we could tweek at home for added flavor, because base quality of ingredients were good. And it wasn't over the moon expensive as other area offerings. I don't know if the place was recently sold, they changed chef or other family members "took over", but they raised their prices by about $3.00+ per entree and totally changed their recipe on the only other item which I would get there which was egg foo young, which went from $9.50 to $12.95, and was basically an egg omelette with peas, carrots, onions, and a very few bean sprout, not the traditional version had received in the past...when phoned to inquire what happened, their resolution was bring it back and they will remake, not sure how that would address the dish preparation, it was a totally different version of how prepared in past, all together and we would have had to make another round trip to accomplish. Something has changed significantly, so heads up, it's one thing to pay "moderate prices" for average food, but now it costs more than the premium Asian faire in town, so I'll be going there from now on and get what I'm paying for read more

Staff was pleasant but the food was absolutely terrible! I went here once in 2009 and didnt like it at all. People in town seem to like this place so I thought I would give it a try again. The food was soo bland, I tried to use soy sauce to give it more flavor but the soy sauce was watered down. My husband ate but didnt enjoy his meal. I absolutely love this place! I come here on the way down from up north to visit my family down south. It is an absolute must to stop by even if it's take out! This restaurant is the best Chinese buffet I've ever been to. The food is actual authentically cooked Chinese cuisine and fresh. I think it's awesome that they have a Vietnamese side because it's hard finding good Vietnamese food in this area! The owners are really sweet and nice every time I come in and welcome me by my first name. You don't get that kind of service and recognition elsewhere in the area. But anyways, for the price they have for their buffet and the quality of their food, it is an absolute must have! I always love the orange chicken, fresh salad ingredients, and shrimp. It is not a bad place! That being said it is a little pricey but the staff is friendly. The sushi is a C- at best. I would go again.

Well... If you like tepid, over cooked food with hair, this is the place for you! Within 5 minutes after filling my plate, everything on it was COLD. I found HAIR cooked into the breading on a lemon chicken wing, and in 2 other dishes. All the vegetables were mush in my spring rolls, and much of the chicken dishes it was like jersey bits amidst the breading. And there were lots of chunks of just fried breading. TAKE GREAT CAUTION IF YOU HAVE SHELLFISH ALLERGIES The ''cream cheese wontons' or at least what was supposed to be cream cheese wontons, were crab. Straight up crab, not even mixed. They were also over cooked and greasy. Completely NOT worth the $10.75 for lunch. And I'm glad I went on my day off, as I spent half the afternoon running to the bathroom. Lots of variety, but prices here have sky rocketed over the years, and quality has not followed suit. The waiters are not nearly as attentive when it comes to refilling waters, and removing dirty plates. I, myself did not try any of the meat items, but my husband did and said many were chewy, and at one point he bit into a deep fried piece of fat. This is my favorite Chinese restaurant. Their lunch specials used to be my favorite, but they did away with them. The only way you can order off a menu, is if you want to take it to go. If you ask, you can also get the buffet to go, which is what we usually do. They give you a styrofoam container and you pay by the weight. Me and my gf went to have dinner to this place today everything was same as usual. Staff is nice, food was....ok as always. So we get our food we start eating, asked for a Dr. Pepper then we asked for a refill, guy brings me Coke instead of DR.P I'm just like "ok" and keep drinking, half way down my soda I noticed a dead FAT FLY in their. I called for the manager, he comes over. I tell him about the fly he goes "ah yah ok yah fly, I get you new one" I tell him I don't want a new soda, I tell him this is not ok. He replies saying it happens all the time, flies come in all the time in their food, everywhere and they have to change out the food. I tell him he's going to get people sick and that he could take care of my bill, he replies with "ah yah I take care, but another time don't come here". Much better than I was expecting for an all you can eat buffet. The place was very clean and well kept. Not the typical stains on the carpet and worn out table tops. The food was mass produced, but still very tasty. Lots of variety from salads to main coarse to deserts. As I was eating, I noticed a few times that someone would come by and tidy up the buffet area, nice touch, you'd never know lots of kids had come through selecting stuff. read more

I've eaten here many, many times, almost always for dinner. Today I went at noon and found more than 1/2 the items I picked from the buffet were COLD! Finally tried takeout from Dragon Palace. Was hopeful it would be a viable option for Chinese food. I would order the hot & sour soup again. Maybe the chicken and string beans. The Mongolian Beef had good flavors, but the beef itself was chewy and unpleasant. The Kung Pao chicken was poorly cut, gristly, and not very flavorful. I'm sorry to say it, but Panda Express is the best this town has to offer for Chinese food. read more

The food used to be excellent here, and the service was fantastic. My friend and I went there for my birthday, and by the end of the meal I thought we were in the wrong restaurant. The food was alright, but not what I was expecting, the service was pretty much non existent. We were never asked if we wanted tea, or anything to drink, we were offered water a few times, but other than that we did not see our server. As a college student I often found myself wondering whats for lunch? I can clearly say that in Paso Robles the Dragon Palace is the place to go for Chinese food. the pricing isn't that bad , and if you want a beer to go with it, they have it. not to say that eating Chinese food on a daily basis ( or what we eat here in the states ) is a good thing, but if I had to, it would be there. definitely worth the money and the time. My only complaint - and it's a minute one, is that the owner should consider putting in a Mongolian BBQ area in the establishment. read more

It's a buffet folks, not a cloth napkin restaurant. Having said that, I think it's great compared to other buffets in SLO County. Food is fresh and tasty - price is fair. I think that some of the negative reviews have been posted by those with unrealistic expectations. If you are prepared to spend a little more $, I heartily recommend Mandarin Gourmet at LOVR and Madonna, but I can't knock Dragon Palace for what they're doing. read more

They have a nice variety of Chinese food with a hint of Vietnamese flair as before, but some things have changed. Yes, the price went up, but now expect only to sit where they seat you. They only use one side of the restaurant. The larger dining side to the left of the buffet service area is always vacant, but dressed for service. I didn't think much of this consistent set up until our last visit about 4 months ago. Though the left dining side was completely empty, they offered our party of 4 a small table, the only table in the middle of the crowded semi- enclosed dining area on the right hand side of the restaurant. They seemed surprised that we would prefer to leave than take the only seating they offered. When we gestured to the adjacent open empty left dining room, they shook their heads no, not exactly welcoming..we found another restaurant to enjoy a nice family meal at that evening. After several months we revisited the King Dragon Palace, and again, we found ourselves herded into an even smaller section, in that crowded right side. They stated the several tables close to us were saved. After about an hour, the section started to clear out. A more heavy set family came in and surely needed a little more room to be comfortable. Though people were leaving they were escorted to a smaller table than the 3 of us had. It was closer to the kitchen in the semi-enclosed side. BTW, No One came to use the 'saved tables area' over the 1.5 hours we were there and the large left side of the restaurant remained completely vacant as always!! I see it now. As we were leaving, several smaller parties were trickling in. I laughed to myself as I saw two servers, leading small groups of people to the tables in that same right section!! I think the herding approach makes it easier for the owners and workers to watch and wait on customers. If you don't mind being put where you might not want to sit, and don't mind being watched, you'll enjoy the food. Otherwise, go when no one else is there or on a weekday. They now charge for tea.
