Drew's is the truth. It's better than Alcenia's in Memphis, which the highest praise I can conjure. All of the fried foods are flavorful without being greasy: The fried okra is the best I've ever had. Fried chicken rivals if not bests Lisa's. Catfish is light and not too spicy. The smothered pork chops are incredible, with a thick batter that is somehow not overpowering. (The bones help you remember to savor it and not eat TOO quickly.) You can't go wrong with the sides...any of them. Cabbage, okra, mac, greens, yams are superior. The broccoli/cheese casserole is a yes if it's offered that day. I ordered red beans just assuming it was red beans and rice, but it was just beans; I enjoyed them anyway. The Texas Toast is so good, I'd recommend it over the otherwise tasty and light cornbread. Do yourself a favor and top off whatever you eat with a slice of sweet potato pie, too. read more

Found this place in a neighborhood. Literally. I drove by it a couple times before I actually found it. You can tell it's a small family owned restaurant when approaching it. The parking is not convenient, cuz of the 6 small spots in front. They do however have additional parking one house over lol. I thought that was cute. Now lets get to the food! I went a lil after lunch time, to beat the lunch rush. Since it's my first time, I didn't wanna rush. It wasn't that busy so the waitress let me choose my table. I came for the fried chicken so that's what I ordered. They have a small and large portion. The small coming with 3 pieces and large coming with 5. I ordered the large 5 piece so I can try a piece of everything. It also comes with 2 sides and a toast or cornbread. I chose collard greens, candied yams, and added a 3rd side (cuz I'm about that life) of mac & cheese. The waitress told me that for fried chicken, there's a 20 minute wait......which most people would be like damn. But unlike most people, I knew that meant the chicken was cooked to order and was gonna be fresh! So I was like okay no problem. Playing on my phone and people watching (yeah if you haven't noticed, I was by myself lol) I loved what I saw. The mix of people in this restaurant was comforting. Black folks, White folks, Hispanic folks, Old folks, Young folks...eating and having a good time. Me being there rounded the whole globe hahaha. Anyway! The chicken came out at exactly 20 minutes. They had that down to the dot! The smell of fresh fried chicken when she put the plate in front of me was amazing. The chicken was definitely hot! I knew better than to dive right in. So I went to the sides first. I dug into the collards and they were really good. Perfect amount of seasoning and vinegar. I liked that they still had some texture. Most places who serve collards, cook them hard to where they're mushy. Not this place! Secondly I tried the mac & cheese...that's some creamy mac & cheese. Loved every bite. It was seasoned well too and had the right amount if cheese. Next the candied yams, where I was disappointed....they did not taste candied at all. Tasted as if the yams were just boiled and put in the bowls. Sad cuz I was hoping for something sweet to counter all the heaviness of everything else. On to the chicken!!! I grabbed the leg and took a bite of the most crispy and juicy chicken. Man was it good. The batter was seasoned nicely and it was still hot! Moved onto the breast and it was even more juicy and tender than the leg! That's some good and smart cooking right there! This place was legit. The Good: this place has amazing fried chicken and vegetables comparable to chicken at Babe's, which I absolutely love. The atmosphere has a very cool diner feel. I love the large windows and the skylights letting in light making it cheery and bright. The woman at the front counter (owner, co-owner, manager maybe?) is very friendly. The Bad: Other than the woman at the register, the other workers I interacted with there were not very outgoing or friendly. The parking lot is small and fills up really quick, and sometimes it is hard to get in and out. The restaurant has an app where they advertise "skip the line, order online!" But the app does not actually make the process any more expedient and in my experience only confuses things more. I brought 2 coworkers with me and had them both download the app so we could order online an hour plus ahead of time. When we arrived, we still sat and waited 30+ minutes til all our food arrived. If that was "skipping the line" I can only imagine how long ordering in house might take. When I ordered my meal online, it had me select what sides I wanted, and I picked 4 instead of the apparently 2 that come with a meal. It allowed me to select 4 and did not give me any kind of warning saying "you can only select two" or anything like that. I confirmed the order and put in my credit card info. Once I was in the store the waitress told me "you can only order two sides with this, and you ordered 4. You need to pay for the 2 extra sides at the checkout when you're done." I had already paid close to $14 online, so I had assumed it automatically charged me for the sides since it let me select them, and since the price sounded right too. But no such luck. After waiting 30 minutes for my food, I waited again, for about 10 minutes in a slow moving line, to pay for my sides. Turned out I wasn't charged for a drink yet either, so with the sides and drink it was another 7 dollars. With a small tip it was 21 bucks in all! Finally, I joined my coworkers in the car, and had to wait yet again, this time for another car to slowly and carefully navigate its way (backing up) out of the parking lot. So we went about 45 minutes over our 45 minute lunch break, even though we ordered on the app well ahead of time. All that being said, not a good idea at all to go on your lunch break. I have very few complaints about the food, which overall was well above average. I found their cornbread to be plain and flavorless, but I grew up on sweet cornbread (like jiffy) and this was definitely not sweet so that may just be personal preference. They also offer toast as an option, but what I would really like to see is hot, buttery biscuits. They would go amazingly well with their other food options. read more

The Drew Burger is a favorite of mine. It tastes like home. The fried wings are also a good choice. They're covered in a crunchy, seasoned breading and perfectly cooked inside. A small order is more than enough but a large order is even better. Trust me, you'll want more. They come with Drew's sauce which is a sort of spicy BBQ ketchup based sauce. It grows on you and you'll soon find yourself ordering extras. They also have great baked wings, which are a relatively healthier option. But only barely. The smothered pork chops are tender and taste good but a little one note flavor wise. As far as sides go the mac and cheese and greens are the way to go. I ordered the cabbage as a side once and it seemed to have just been plopped out of a can. I'm not sure if it's changed since then. Overall, this is one of my favorite spots in Fort Worth. I think they could benefit from new additions to their menu but if you just want southern cooking this place has all you could ask for. Call before you go to make sure they're open.
