This place is so unique and fun! The food was amazing, especially the homemade chicken pot pie. YUM! The prices were great even with the included gratuity. We actually stopped here twice on our weekend trip! First to try the best Bloody Mary! Just spicy enough and good veggies. Second the next day for breakfast! So good! Veggie omelet was full of perfectly cooked spinach, broccoli, carrots, and peppers. The potatoes could have used a little more crisping but very flavorful! This review is for the restaurant only. The service was, at best, mediocre. We had to ask twice for a soda refill, and our request for additional tartar sauce was never fulfilled. When we did ask for these items, the waiter was abrupt and dismissive. It became clear why when we noticed a 20% gratuity had been automatically added to the bill--even though we were a group of four with separate checks. I would have gladly tipped 20% on my own, assuming they might be short-staffed. However, once I realized the tip was automatically included, the lack of attentive service felt more like a lack of motivation. That's disappointing. Bottom Line Up Front: I have been here multiple times, and their food is really good. But, they know it is good, and there is limited competition on that area of Oregon Coast so they get away with borderline Customer Service that wouldn't fly in other geographic areas. I loved the menu and the food choices. Not typical fish & chips only- or clam chowder American Food. I ordered the Persian Fusion Rice Bowl! And, it was executed really well, I highly recommend that dish! ANd, everyone else in my party loved their entrees as well. Their beer on tap is a hit, obviously can't go wrong with that! Previously, my husband and I ordered take-away and got a Pizza to pick up from their pizza window. THat one was easy and straight forward, no hurt pride, just delicious pizza in our mouths! Overall, the food is great, the vibe is pretty good for a town of that size. BUt, not a show-stopped that you "Must go" when visiting Yachats. And, I would love to see them communicate with their clients a tad bit better, mainly -- considering the Call-ahead option of even just being able to put your name on the list like 15 minutes early as you were driving over the restaurant would go along way. Wonderful unique dining experience! The colorful cotton napkin was an early cue that something special was going on here. From the artistic, funky ambience to the professional servers - thanks Ian - we had the meal of our central Oregon coast trip here. The food was amazing, but it was so much more than that. Welcoming, and seems to attract a broad array of people (real Oregon hippies, gay folk, and others) that you don't necessarily see in other local establishments catering to travelers. I stayed at the Drift Inn this week, and also had dinner at the restaurant the same evening. The whole thing was a special getaway for myself after a busy few weeks at work. I'll start with the positive and say that if I were writing the review for the hotel alone, it would be five stars. I got one of the small rooms and found it to be a cozy little spot for a good value. Both the room itself and the common spaces were clean, tidy, and well stocked. The bed, pillows, and linens were incredibly comfortable and I slept like a dream. Dinner didn't start great. I walked in at around 7pm and was greeted by the hostess. I told her I had a party of one, and I think she assumed I must be there to mingle because she offered to have me sit at the bar. I told her that I actually don't drink and I was there to get dinner. Well, this threw her, apparently. She kind of stammered and said, "Oh, well...huh. Hmmm. Let me see what I can do." She went to consult over this dilemma with another employee. I looked into the immediate dining room area and saw empty tables, so it seemed strange that I presented a problem. The restaurant didn't seem busy by any means, as expected on a Monday, I assume. After some back and forth with the other employee, she came back and stated that she could seat me on the patio. I hesitated, but said that was fine if it was the only option. I had seen photos of the interior of the restaurant before, and that was honestly the atmosphere I envisioned enjoying dinner in. The patio area was indeed charming in it's own way and might be perfect for a sunny brunch, but it was evening and a chilly breeze was creeping in. I could also see directly into the open kitchen from my seat which was...not the ambiance I had hoped for. I ordered the Persian Fusion Rice Bowl and the combination of ingredients sounded lovely. I got a soft drink and a perfectly good quality house salad, although the Bleu cheese dressing was a runny disappointment. The waitress did offer to turn the heater on since she noticed it was getting colder, and I appreciated that. Before I was even done with the salad, my waitress arrived with my entree! So, they were at least very speedy in getting things out. From the description I had pictured perfectly roasted chunks of eggplant and big pieces of juicy, fresh pears...but it all just kind of massed together into one mushy mess of ingredients. The pieces of pear I could actually detect were so mushy they could only have been canned pears. There was nothing technically wrong with it, so I hesitated to complain. Part way through the meal, I realized another missing aspect I had very much looked forward to was the live music that was advertised. I assume the musicians cancelled and that happens sometimes. I don't blame the restaurant for that, but it was just another element of this special treat that was missing. Since there was no live music to linger for, I ordered a piece of cheesecake to go, which was delivered in a box by the busboy. Meanwhile, my check arrived. I knew there was a mandatory 20% gratuity added on, so it didn't surprise me when I saw it on the check. My total for the entree, soft drink, and cake was $45. I gave her my credit card. She brings back my card with another check that has the $45 inclusive total, but this check has a tip line to fill in. I froze. I thought the 20% thing was all-inclusive, but now I start to think that was just a service charge and this line is for the waitress or something? Honestly, I felt to embarrassed to ask and risk looking stupid or cheap, so I wrote in $5 on the tip line. So, $50 out the door. And service wasn't anything special. The hostess seemed borderline annoyed with me in the beginning, and the waitress was professional but far from warm or inviting. It almost felt as though I was an inconvenience, even though I wasn't demanding in any way and didn't complain about anything. To top it off, when I exited the restaurant I passed the dining room and it looked no fuller or busier than before. I can only assume they had been holding tables for reservations (you can only make reservations for five or more people). At that point I took my cheesecake back to my room. Spoiler: I don't think the cheesecake had set properly because it wasn't very firm at all. Also, the chocolate topping was not a decadent ganache or fancy shaved chocolate. It was just a semisweet syrup like Hershey's. The more I thought about my dinner here, the more I realize that it was actually the one disappointing experience in an otherwise pretty nice trip. A mediocre meal that lasted just over 30 minutes cost me nearly as much as a nice room for an entire night. Also, it would be really nice if they gave hotel guests the perk of making reservations. I feel like at least my experience might have been somewhat improved by being seated where I preferred, when it seems I was likely cast aside for other reservations. read more

We had a lovely Saturday night dinner, with a salad, wood fired pizza, and a meringue with berries and cream for dessert. The local craft beer and house made lemonade was superb, and our server was very lively and attentive. The live music was engaging but not too overwhelming. Well, food was good...portion light. What was galling was that an automatic 20% gratuity was added to the bill. Also a food tax which is city wide. By including the 20%, they have effectively insured a tip but at the same time, if service is not at that level, the customer has no say. This is a poor decision on their part. Always stop in for at least one meal here when chilling in Yachats - today was the first time tackling brunch. My oh my, they do it right - especially for my gluten-free dairy-free needs. We got there around 11am or so on a Saturday and it was surprisingly quiet. Started with super tasty bloody marias - love the pickled green beans. I decided to mash up a couple things from the menu and got their delicious GF crab cakes and the potato and veggie stir fry - perfect combo for me. My hubby got the eggs benedict with dungeness crab - very tasty. And for dessert, because who doesn't have room after all that food ;) we enjoyed dirty chais with oat milk and I had a yummy GF Vegan peach pie with vegan whip and my hubby had their famous marionberry cobbler. STUFFED! Always appreciate the cloth napkins and paper straws. Nice to relax, hang out and listen to the live music, picked up a cute mug in their gift shop. Let's start with the crabcakes: laughably small, ridiculously overpriced, and tasted like they were fried in old oil that completely masked any trace of actual crab. Disgusting. The prime rib special? Greasy, bland, and borderline inedible. I've had better cuts at a gas station diner. And the halibut fish and chips--wow. It somehow managed to be both over-fried and undercooked. A mushy, greasy mess that turned my stomach. Adding insult to injury, the town tacks on a food tax, and Drift Inn holds you hostage with an automatic 20% gratuity. For lunch. No option, just slapped on the bill whether the service was good or not. By the time the check came--over $100 for lunch--I was stunned. For mediocre food at best and outright offensive food at worst, this was nothing short of robbery. I want my money back. I'll never return, and I suggest you don't make the same mistake I did. This place is a tourist trap with no pride in what they serve. This is no exaggeration, but one of the worst meals I've ever had. read more

I've stayed at the Drift Inn three times and this was my last. I was in Heron's Roost, a second floor unit in a building above a staff work area with an adjacent first floor guest unit (Mae West). I was awoken about 1 a.m. by voices, music, occasional loud singing and dishwashing (that distinctive sound of large kitchen items clunking around in a sink). You gotta be kidding me, right? Staff working and making a lot of noise below a guest unit at that time in the morning? The noise continued on and off for several hours, so after about 30 minutes I got partially dressed and went outside and down the stairs to investigate. Yep, the noise was coming from the employee work area right below Heron's Roost. Banging my foot on the floor did nothing. So I texted Drift Inn management asking for help. The return text came about 12 hours later after I'd left and was nearly to Portland. Management's response: "We're so sorry for your negative experience. We do not have kitchen staff working at that time. The noise was coming from guests in the neighboring unit." Wrong. It was the Drift Inn's own employees making all the racket. What an inane, complicit and dumb-a$$ reply. I texted again and management stated that they would "investigate further." I heard nothing, so I asked again for a reply, and for a refund. Management never responded, and for me, that says it all right there. Once the Drift Inn has your money (in my case, nearly $190 including tax for a one night stay), the management/owners couldn't care LESS about their guests and any problems. My advice: AVOID the Drift Inn. If you do stay, definitely don't select Heron's Roost if you value getting a good night's rest. read more

Delicious food in a beautiful setting. This was a popular place with locals and tourists, so we had to wait 30-45 minutes for a table. Service was excellent as we were greeted once we were seated. Dorothy pointed out to us in advance that a 20% gratuity is automatically added to all orders. She earned it with gracious and attentive service. The crab cakes were delicious and portions were very generous. A nice variety of sides available. Brick oven pizza is a great alternative for those with less adventurous tastes. read more

Quaint and cozy, our experience at the Drift Inn was quintessentially Yachats! The service was friendly and efficient and our meal was accompanied by a talented yet unobtrusive guitarist/singer. Great service!! I would have tipped more but I get a little twisted at places that auto add a gratuity on to the bill. Tips are just that 'extra' for service...auto adding it is taking that choice from the person receiving the service. Off my soap box. Okay, first things first we stayed at this Airbnb for the night which I 100% recommend. The rooms are cute, cozy, have fun themes (we chose the safari room) and right above the restaurant which is extremely convenient. We ate both dinner and breakfast at the restaurant and although we preferred breakfast, we enjoyed both. For dinner, the wait was almost an hour for a table (which was fine since we had our room to wait in) and we sat on the super cute back patio in the table with the swinging chairs - my request, which they easily granted. Sitting at that table automatically made this an unforgettable dining experience for me. The food for dinner was good, not outstanding. I had the seafood lasagna and while it was flavorful and a good portion size, the seafood weirdly didn't taste fresh to me? Which seems wild this close to the ocean but that's what I thought. The crusty Italian bread that came with it, which is apparently made in house, was definitely the star of the meal. I got some with breakfast too and we bought a loaf for the road. SO good! For breakfast the star is the cinnamon roll. Gigantic, delicious fluffy icing. I also got some eggs, bacon (super thick slices), and my husband got biscuits and gravy. No complaints, everything was great. We'll definitely stop here again if we have future visits down the coast and will encourage others to make the stop in Yachats as well. Ridiculous. There is only 2 redeeming qualities. Both are at the front line. Don't bother going past the Hostesses (who truly are amazing). Don't bother sitting down. Order your food to go and get OUT. Toxic management is not sustainable. The only reason you still exist is the result of the bad luck of others who have tried to cut into this tiny market. Thank God there is still a grocery store nearby! C & K will be my GoTo forevermore. Or at least until someone or someones' come to their senses.
