If in Yachats this is one of my favorite places to go. The vibe is the best in town, an rustic old building with Mermaids/Mermen as a theme. The food is always good - I have a crustacean allergy and they can always work around this when I order. The staff are attentive and helpful as well. The bar is particularly nice and friendly. Always strike up nice conversations when I sit there - so if the place is busy bellowing up to the bar for a cocktail and lunch or dinner is a great experience as well. read more

The entrance opens to a bar/tables or ... walk down a thin hallway (immersed with local gifts for sale), make a left and walk into an atrium haven complete with a live koi pond. It's just unbelievably so unique. The tables are incredible pieces of preserved wood, there is an outdoor garden that's exquisite, no detail was missed. This place is an absolute treasure for ambiance! Thereafter, the service was top notch, epic local color. We ordered crepes with crab (huge hit), chili relleno with prawns (we always ask for extra spice but be warned we couldn't even eat it) and a delectable homemade chicken pot pie. The service was great, so that's not an issue; what was an issue was the flies, so many flies. The outside seating was opened to the dining room and that meant those of us eating inside couldn't take a bite without several flies in our face and on our food. The food that was ordered was pretty decent, with a few exceptions- side salads had bad cucumber. Mushy and obviously frozen at one point. The BBQ chicken pizza could have been great if there wasn't so much blue cheese. I should have taken a photo to show how heavy handed the cook was. Been passing through this place for several years. Never stopped till now. Was looking for a place that served Oregon razor clams. The Drift Inn seemed to fit the bill. For appetizers I ordered jalapeño poppers and wife had shrimp cocktail. Both were excellent. I ordered the razor clams and wife had teriyaki halibut bowl. Again both were really delicious and our food came out to us hot and quick. Waiter had a good attitude and when I asked for cocktail sauce he promptly brought it. Bill was $90. High but not unexpected since Yachats is one of those coastal tourist traps. Here's what gets you 3 stars: I only got 2 clams along with a plate of fries. 2 clams. For the price i expected somewhere between 4 and 6. I felt shorted and ripped off. They also added an automatic 20% gratuity. I really hate this. Probably would've passed by this place had I known. I get it. I've seen where a party of 8 or more come in and stiff the server. Not cool. However, I'm not here to subsidize the restaurant's payroll. If the service is good, I tip very well. Truth be told, I would've tipped more than 20%. Our waiter was friendly, fast and had a great personality but 20% is assumed, so he gets what he gets. The food wasn't that bad and like I said the service is on point from beginning to end. I ordered crepes and my wife ordered a Thai dish. The crepes were ok and the Thai dish was unfortunately cooked all the way. It would have been 5 stars if not for the 20% automatic tip! Came in for late lunch and 8 wait staff were milling about but no one checked on us after getting our food. Then it took a long time to get a bill. I understand now because the tip was automatic!!! I refused the 20% and our waitress agreed that she had not checked on us and backed it out! Bottom line; pay your kitchen staff properly and DON'T make your customers compensate for your cheapness!! Plus prices had increased over 10% in a year. What a fantastic restaurant in the heart of Yachats OR. Lunch outside on a covered courtyard. All the tables were very unusual, mine had a Koi Pond underneath. Beautiful garden to gaze at. Food was delicious. We had the Chicken Pot Pie and Halibut Fish&Chips. Pot pie had a small side salad with your choice of dressing. We had the Berry Vinaigrette. Pot pie was served piping hot so eat the salad while you wait for it to cool. Generous portion of Halibut Fish pieces. Check out the Mercantile store next door on your way in or out. I ordered a ribeye for 38$. It came out cold, with a searless, clammy, grey exterior and a brown sauce that tasted chemical and reminded me of the powdered packet mixes from the dollar aisle. I scraped off the sauce and wiped it down with a napkin. It was still difficult to put in my mouth. I only saw the waitress four times all evening. They add 20% gratuity automatically, which I definitey would not have provided given the choice. I tried the chicken strips, and they were quite good. We went to eat at the Drift Inn Cafe based on a recommendation from someone who used to live in Yachats. It's rather unassuming from the outside, and they could use better signage so it's easier to find. We used Yelp for the address and Google Maps to actually find it. Also, it was very unclear from the side parking lot where the entrance to the cafe is. Hope the owners review their lack of signage so that people can find this gem. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside on the patio. Tables are made of big slabs of natural wood, and there is a lovely garden along the back wall. There is ample seating indoors in a bright, sunny setting. I overheard guests at the neighboring table saying that the margaritas are very good, which is one reason they eat there often. My husband and I both ordered the Dungeness crab quesadillas with a salad instead of fries. The salad was very fresh (spring mix with shredded beets and carrots - delicious). The quesadillas are awesome! Plenty of crab with melted mozzarella and manchego cheese with fresh avacado. The side of salsa was fresh and tasty, with an excellent balance of ingredients (for once the cilantro was not overbearing). A small container of sour cream was included. The restrooms are clean and well decorated. Loved the tile floor that featured lots of pink and sage green reto tiles from the 50's and 60's. There are small primitive paintings on the walls that are for sale. Most of them feature flowers. And there is a gift shop that includes apparel with their logo on it. Prices are very good considering the freshness and amount of food, and I can guarantee that similar venues in San Antonio or New York would not have been as good and would have cost a lot more. If you ever find yourself in Yachats, Oregon the Drift Inn Cafe is a great place to eat. read more

We've been to Yachats many times over the years, and my wife is gluten-free, so the Drift Inn is always a priority on the restaurant stops. This year, when we arrived, we were notified of the 20% automatic gratuity included with the visit. We were seated fairly quickly, and the waitress took our order without much delay. After our order was placed, we never had a consistent server again. Our original waitress disappeared, and we spent the rest of the meal waving down servers as they passed. None of the servers were attentive, and none of them warranted a 20% tip. We had a lot of trouble just getting refills on drinks. Of the food we ordered, the reviews were mixed. My dad didn't enjoy the seafood chowder, as it was really watery and unfulfilling. My wife enjoyed the gluten-free fish and chips, so that is a recommendation. My son and I had the mac and cheese, but we weren't fans of the white cheddar they use, as it didn't give much flavor. My daughter enjoyed the pot pie, it was a good portion and had a lot of savory herbs in it. My wife was the only holdout after our visit, saying she thought it was still a good place. Nobody else in the family wanted to return to the Drift Inn again. A final strike against them came the next morning, when my wife asked me to get her an order of the Coastal Berry Crepes to go. They had the crepes ready pretty quickly, and the waitress cheerfully exclaimed that this take out was also subject to their wonderful 20% automatic tip. When I got back to the hotel with the crepes, my wife was disappointed to find 2 in the box, when the menu advertises that you receive 3. I don't expect we'll be back again. Normally a tip would reflect on their professionalism, the food, the atmosphere, etc. Not already added into the price ! This is a great local restaurant. Ate here for breakfast and dinner while in Yachts. The menu has a great variety. Everyone loved the dishes they chose. We were there when the musicians started. The volume was good. Not too loud and the song selection seemed appropriate for the atmosphere of the restaurant. The service was excellent. It is a little awkward that a tip is automatically included, and divided across the entire restaurant staff ... I guess that is one way to deal with the inequities of the American tipping system. The preferred window side tables were a mess but open and the place wasn't that busy. We had to sit near the back of the place. They say it is an automatic gratuity but it cannot be called a gratuity if it is taken by the establishment and not given by the customer. Totally wrong use of the word. It should be called a penalty for eating there. This alone will keep me from ever going there again. OMG... Have the Boccone Dolce! Hands down my favorite dessert ever! The food is great, the service is very good. My only complaint is that a MANDATORY 20% tip is added to every ticket, whether it was deserved or not. It's REQUIRED, which is a huge turn-off to me. I'm a great tipper. Being a former server, I appreciate good service and I make sure it's well rewarded. But... if you force me to tip, you're getting EXACTLY that and no more. Even the servers were apologetic about it, which tells me that they don't love it either. Fix this. It's not necessary and frankly, it stinks. You're not doing your staff any favors. Tips are EARNED. They're an incentive to do your best. Happy customers = bigger, better tips. That said, the wood fired pizza was excellent and the nightly live music was fun. This can be said the best breakfast spot we have ever been to. Weren't expecting much after the pandemic but we were so wowed by the amazing food here at a decent $$. They do automatically tack on 20% gratuity and they should. Love the relaxing vibe and the lovely ambience. You can tell the owner put a lot of love into this cute lil' place. We thoroughly ooh'd and ahh's over our yummy razor clam breakfast. Perfection on a plate for $22. Perfectly panko battered and you get two big pieces per plate. Perfect aioli to go with. Perfect homemade wheat toast and home fries. The french toast with real maple syrup and a generous helping of homemade marionberry jam was truly the icing on the cake with a cherry on top.
