Update: like I mentioned in my original review from a year ago, I came back. I actually stayed at the Hutchinson Shores Resort where Drift is located and went several times during our stay. I totally had to update my review to 5 stars. Food and service are great. There's a big selection on the menu. My favorite for dinner is the wedge salad that comes with a creamy sauce and crispy bacon bites. Qué rico! They gave great pizzas, too. If you're into dessert, try the vanilla brûlée- soo good! They also have an extensive mixology drink menu. My husband is a big fan of the breakfast panini because it comes on sweet bread. Make reservations- they do get booked! This place was expensive, but I can confidently say you'll get your money's worth with a beautiful view and fine dining - ish ambiance. I started with the bruschetta, and it was pretty good. Would've liked more cheese but the balsamic on it made up for it. I ordered the NY Strip and the flavors were out of this world, it was savory and paired well with the roasted potatoes (a little dry). The spinach along with it wasn't initially bad but soggy spinach gets old quick. Our server was great and practically an encyclopedia for everything on the menu. Our refills took long and were missed once but that wasn't her fault. Overall really good service. The reason I went 4 was because my partner's meal, I believe the chicken penne pasta, tasted like it was from a college dining hall. I don't know why that one meal in particular was so lack luster when every other meal in my group was spectacular. The sauce was watered down and the chicken was boiled and unsavory cuts were used. The noodles were overcooked and in total it lacked flavor. I have to say that the atmosphere and vibe are better than the food. That is not to say that the food isn't good, but rather the atmosphere and vibe here is that good. The seafood here is the star when it comes to food and it is good, but not remarkable. But again, the view makes up for it. The restaurant is well decorated and location is nice overlooking the beach, but the hotel pool is right in between so you the view is interrupted by people in bathing suits and floaties constantly walking by. The staff is great and professional but the food was not good at all. The short ribs were dry and tough and the risotto of another dish we had was cold. For the price I'd recommend going somewhere else if you want a nice, oceanfront dinner with food deserving of its price.. This fell short. read more

Our bar server Nicole was fantastic! The ambiance in Drift is simply beautiful! What a surprise when we went there for the first time. We had drinks at the bar at happy hour and were having such a great time that we cancelled our dinner reservation in the dining room and stayed at the bar. We started with a delicious pepperoni pizza and then ordered 2 pasta entrees that were so delicious but we were so full we took them home. I had so many problems with this place! First of all the happy hour only takes place at the bar which is fine but the bar was full and I mean very very full. I was lucky to get a drink in time for happy hour but as I stood there The singular bartender told me he had to take care of other people before he could take care of me and therefore I lost the happy hour special. The food that I wanted was on happy hour and not available after happy hour. Because there was only one bartender available to order food from I was unable to get what I wanted. I even offered to pay a higher price but was told that this food was not available after 6 PM. So I figured I just go back to my room since it had just as good of a view as the pool did. I arrived back to my room just after 6 PM and decided to order the steak burger. It is one of the cheapest things on the menu. I wanted a sandwich and it was pretty much the only one left after 6 PM. Also I was here for work and the Per diem that I get is quite low. I called room service to order the steak burger just after 6 PM and was told I could save a couple bucks by coming back downstairs to the restaurant to pick it up. No problem. However 645 rolled around and I still didn't get a call to come down and pick up my burger. I called back to check on the status and turns out they had forgot to put it in. So they said they'd put it in and put it on the fly. I received a call about 20 minutes later that my food was ready. I received no apology or discount for this significant delay. I went down to pick it up and made a cursory glance at what was in the bag and it looked OK. However upon arriving at my room I noticed that they did not put the pickle that was promised with the burger, but also forgot the extra pickles that I requested. Additionally the menu that the QR code in the room link to said that the burger cost $15 but the receipt said that the burger cost $17 plus tax. In the end the burger tasted OK but it did not have the toppings that I requested. The fries were lackluster and I could make better ones at home. Additionally it took over an hour to get a burger with really blah fries. All of this could've been prevented had they let me order off the happy hour menu that I was in line to order off of before happy hour was over but they were so short staffed that I wasn't able to do so. If I return to this resort for future conferences(likely) I'll be heading elsewhere to eat. read more

The location is absolutely beautiful but the operations in the front and back of the house are a complete mess. Took over an hour to get sandwiches, the table was dirty, gave us two different menus to which the server remarked that she wasn't sure how the old menu got mixed in, and overall the whole experience was just really disappointing. This place could set the bar if they focused on the service they provided. I feel instead they bank on the amazing view and location to help you see past all of the shortcomings. The food was good. We sat outside facing the beach which was really pretty. The second time was for dinner and ate indoors. The staff provided excellent service and our waiter was very nice. My husband ordered the steak and I had the chicken pasta. The steak was OK but the quality of the meat could have been better. The chicken pasta was very creamy and missing some of the ingredients it listed. Also, the chicken was full of tendons or skin, not quite sure as the texture was weird so I ended up plucking it out of the pasta. read more

So...I was very excited to come here. FYI, this is a restaurant in a resort. We were greeted by a friendly hostess. We were early for the reservation, and wanted to take advantage of their great happy hour. The hostess said, you can go to the inside bar area or the pool/beach area for happy hour. We went to the beach. In all fairness the beach bar was pack and there was only 1 bartender, Lisa. She was pleasant. Finally we were going to be able to order and a bourgie asshat jumped in to order a drink for his wife since she spilled hers. I made a quip that we too have been waiting 20 min. To order. Lisa took our order 5 cocktails (all simple) and eventually we got them. We also order 2 conch fritters. 40 minutes we got them. They were excellent and very hot. At least we had that going for us. We then placed our main entree order. Based upon how long it took for everything, we skipped soup and salad and went for the main event. We then waited 30 min and our waitress, Rae, said our entrees would be out shortly and did we want anything from the bar. I order wine. 10 min. later it arrived. She came back 15 min later and said the kitchen was backed up and would we like bread. We said yes and another 5 minutes 1/2 of the bread arrived. It took another 10 minutes to get the rest. We are now 1-1/2 hours into our meal and still "your entree is almost ready!" Well, it was 4 minutes later and it smells awesome, except for my wife's order. 5 minutes later it arrived. Here is the scoop on the food from the eater's perspective. I had Grouper with a Blue crab crust. What I got was basically a crab cake mashed to a hint of grouper the was as dry as the beach here. So disappointing. My Son-in- law had an average piece of snapper. Very meh according to him. Both daughters had Linguine with Clams, Gluten-free. They absolutely loved it and I had some and it was outstanding. My wife had rock shrimp pasta. According to her, it was good, but nothing to write home about. So, going on all of this, I am giving it 3 stars. Service was incredibly average from Rae and there was zero attempt to engage us. Service from Lisa was excellent. Food was a solid 3. Presentation was good. Length of time for a meal was a 1. I don't like giving a review like this for somewhere that has a lot of 5 star reviews, but this is my honest opinion. Everything is fixable. This spot is located at Hutchinson Shores Resort and Spa. As far as the ambiance, it doesn't get any better. They have an indoor and outdoor spot to eat facing the private beach. The inside has a modern/contemporary coastal feel that sets the mood for romantic evenings or a nice night with the family. The food was amazing for lunches and dinners. Different items were available for lunch than dinner. For lunch, you can not go wrong with their shrimp tacos - some of the best my wife and I have ever had. Their chicken sandwich was also a solid choice and their Parmesan truffle fries were great. For dinner we started with the spinach/artichoke dip, which was creamy and rich, but incredibly tasty. For the main course my wife and I split the pasta carbonara which was a big portion of a very savory and rich dish. (They make their pastas in-house and you can taste the difference from anything you'd get at a store.) For desert their cheesecake was great, but it's cheesecake and it all kinda tastes the same to me. If you're looking for a drink to put you in the vacay mentality, ask the bartender to make you a mojito but with rum, instead of the vodka and add some strawberries. Everything here was super tasty and the views were amazing. In the end this was a much better option than eating at any of the local restaurants with comparable prices but without the hassle of leaving the premises and getting much higher quality of food. read more
