My daughter took her car here due to a rattling sound coming from underneath the hood. Scared she'd breakdown on the way into work, she asked Driver's Edge in Irving, Texas to diagnose the sound. Driver's Edge put together a comprehensive inspection report listing items that required immediate attention and items that were more recommendations. The quote was fairly pricey for the "required" items so she asked me to take a look. I called Trey at Driver's Edge and focused more on the "required" items walking through each item that he suggested required immediate attention. I agreed with him on suspension issues and alignment but questioned the severity of the valve cover leak and the urgency of replacing the rear deck brake light. Trey made it a point to say that the replacement brake light itself was only $7 but the labor to replace the bulb was fairly extensive and was expected to take about 2 hours for the bulb replacement alone. Being busy myself and just wanting to ensure my daughter was safe driving the car, I agreed to all "required" service items which totaled about $3300 in repairs. My daughter's car was done same day and while she was driving home I looked up how difficult it was to replace the brake light. Surprisingly enough, a YouTube video revealed that replacement of the bulb was extremely simple and only took a few moments. I texted Trey to voice my concern that he mislead me and it's been radio silence (after a few attempts of me reaching out). Now I'm questioning whether any of the other services he suggested were really needed. If you value honesty and integrity in car repairs, this place is not for you. long story short, this place is a scam. Last week, I dropped off my car for an inspection. After 1-2 hours, they claimed that there were multitude of problems that would cause serious damages and potentially cause "the car to catch on fire". The mechanics were very insistent that I need to stay and fix these issues. They quoted me more than $3000 for the parts and labor cost. Being sceptical, I checked my car camera footage, and saw that the mechanics spent 6-7 minutes looking around the front hood, and then proceeded to chat in the back for the rest of the 1.5 hours. P.S. I went to another auto shop for inspection after. They told me there weren't any issues and that there were just faulty readings on the car sensor. read more

Came here for a wheel alignment after another automotive shop turned me away because they didn't have time to do it. Service and communication were great! I also got a much needed air filter and an inspection to know what shape my car is in. We are new to the area and I needed to get my car renewed for the year, We went to get a state emissions test for our car. After 2 hours of waiting and a few status checks, they finally moved our car from the parking lot into the garage. Then it took an additional 45 minutes just for them to test it. We ended up bonding with the other customers in the waiting room over the really long waiting times. I looked into the garage through the glass of the reception area, I saw only one employee working. The other one was one his phone the whole time I was watching. We will not be coming back for any type of service here. read more

Liars and thieves. Waited 2.5 hrs for them to do a state inspection on my brand new 2022 vehicle. They failed it due to windshield wipers and tinting (tinting that passed inspections before). They must have a "faulty" tint reader because I took it to another shop and it passed. Don't trust these con artists. read more

TL;DR: DO NOT BRING YOUR CAR HERE I came here for a state inspection as I had been trying for a few days and was having no luck at the places I tried. They informed me that my front passenger signal was out and they could replace it so I could pass the inspection. Silly me, I gave the go ahead. The light did not work after they replaced it but I did not notice until I was home. I called and the person on the phone told me to bring it back. I had to get some other work done on my car so I brought it back after receiving my car from the other place. When I brought it back to Driver's edge, they informed me that "the wire was loose" which to me seems like they did something wrong but are covering it up. Upon inspecting my car, I noticed that my new bumper was damaged. The manager tried to tell me that you can't get services on new paint, but the paint has nothing to do with the actual structure of my bumper. The bumper is not fully in place on the passenger side as the worker damaged it when replacing it after fixing the signal bulb. The manager took pictures and reported it to upper management. They decided less than 48 hours later that their was no negligence, when clearly there is. They offered me what I paid for in labor as a credit, but why would I bring my car to be further damaged and responsibility is not taking. I usually always go to the dealership. This was a lesson learned. Save your money. Also, EVERY person that was getting a state inspection while I waited needed at least one or more services for it to pass. It is giving SCAMMY. DON'T GO HERE. If you wonder why there are so many bad reviews as opposed to good ones, there's a reason. The mark-up on parts is absolutely shameful and the number of hours charged for labor is totally unrealistic. Example: a new alternator for my car retails, on average, for $262. Driver's Edge charged me $761.99. 5 hours "labor" for a repair that took an hour = $509.97. The managers are friendly enough when they're robbing you blind but get increasingly hostile when you question the pricing. Not a great experience. Salesperson seemingly misdiagnosed my car - said I needed over $5000 in repairs to the turbo system (and other stuff) and claimed that if I don't get them to fix it, I might as well tow my car to a junkyard. Dude even used a visual aid to demonstrate the (incorrect) issue. Refused to do any other service until the $5000 repair was agreed to. They also seemed to have drained the battery and I had to jump it to get it out of there. Went to Valvoline next door, did an oil change and it fixed the issue (too much oil added due to a failed oil level sensor). The car is working fine now. The staff here seem to not have enough substantive knowledge or experience. They caused me so much worry, anxiety, and inconvenience in such a stressful time. I had to jump my car several times and now have to get a new battery on top of the $140 they took just to INCORRECTLY diagnose my car. read more

I have a Camaro 2015 that I have taken in a couple of times. Once for a radiator hose issue and a second time for a radiator fluid leak. They did well fixing those issues and explained to me that the reason I still have a slight leak is simply the age of my engine, which was confirmed at another place I went to to change my oil. What seems to be lacking are the empathy skills of the people that meet you at the counter. When we came in today regarding the leak, they said it was the age of my car, which it was. I quickly replied by saying we have also spent about $2,400 there. It just seems they could empathize a little better that for us consumers it's about the money too. As the conversation went on, I made a comment that we have spent a lot of money. The reply we got was "it's not about the money, it's getting it fixed. Well goodness, most of us aren't millionaires, and we have a household budget, so YES it is about the money and can we show some empathy and compassion here. Called to get an appointment to fully check-out a used car; was told to walk-in, no appointment necessary. Arrived on a Friday afternoon and was told it would take about an hour. We gave them the keys and went to get lunch. On the way out the door, I heard them tell another woman say there was no wait time currently. We came back an hour and fifteen minutes later only to find they hadn't even started to look at the vehicle. Was told it was first-come, first-serve, and they had other vehicles before mine. Their prices are outrageous. They overcharged me for parts they replaced on my car that didn't even need fixing. They charged me 1300 (I was quoted $700 and $750 at 2 other car shops) and my car is still misfiring. They are charging me more now to do diagnostics to finally figure out what is wrong with my car and when I asked if they could just not do anything to my car and keep my old parts in my car they wanted to charge me another 350 for the "labor" since they already replaced the part that didn't even need to be replaced! I'm a girl and it just sucks how places like this can take advantage of me because I know nothing about cars. If anyone knows any genuine car places that actually fix your car when you pay them and don't over charge please let me know I'm so tired of getting robbed by these people and now there's nothing I can do. I've been going here for many years. I went here today to get a state inspection done as I've been working the past two weeks straight and will be working the next three weeks. Their hours changed and they are not open on Sundays. I had only today to get it done. Rocco who is the guy in the front and the "acting manager".... absolute horrible customer service. Rude, inefficient, discriminatory and walked away from me, and said that I can go somewhere else if I don't like it. Well I did. City Garage just a couple miles down the road and you know what they were just as busy.... got Got seen in 2 mins and got out with inspection done and paid within 45 mins (and for $25!) . Horrible service once again. Scheduled an appointment, it was never put into the system. I was quoted an amount on the phone when I called, once I arrived I was given a total of $100 more then quoted. I was told the tire change would be at the most an hour and a half, dropped my car off at 830am, I had to call at 1230pm to check the status. I was told they haven't even started on my car. Needing to pick my kids up from school, I had to reiterate that I needed my car by 2pm. Never got a call. Now, having to drive my kids in the car without a carseat, I get dropped off to puck up the vehicle and it is still not ready (3pm). On top of all this when they checked my tires previous to this appointment, they tightened the locking bolt so much now they had to cut it off of my car, and then try charging me for it. I went in because my car started overheating. I did a self-diagnosis and saw that my radiator was leaking. The guy at the front desk told me the needed to their own diagnosis and the charge was 150 dollars. I sat in the front looking at my car and not once did I see it move or anyone come look at it. I get the bill and they were trying to charge me 3,000 dollars for various things. I tell them a lot of those things have already been replaced and are new. They won't admit it but take it off my bill, then for a radiator they tried to charge me 1100 dollars. Are you kidding me? Not even the dealership charges those prices. I replaced it myself in under 30 minutes with 170 dollars for a radiator. This place is a scam. they shouldn't be charging those prices. I later talk to troy their boss and he admits to me that they looked at car fax to see the history of my car. I paid them to look at the engine compartment. Avoid this place like the plague. They charged me $100 for a new tire (claimed they couldn't patch mine), and then charged an additional $50 to install it! I've gotten several tires on vehicles in the past year. Where to begin... Two years ago when I lived in Irving, I took my car in for a power steering issue. They overcharged me to put in a new power steering pump and a few other smaller things and sent me on my way. The power steering issue was not resolved, so I took it back. They then told me that it was the alternator, which was confusing, but I took their word for it, got that replaced too, and they sent me on my way. Guess what? The problem still was not fixed. I took it in a third time only to find out that after grand total of 1400 dollars, the guy didn't tighten the bolts on the power steering pump enough. So I paid to have an alternator replaced that I didn't even need. I complained about having to spend so much money getting a part I didn't need due to their incompetence. Their solution was to give me a voucher for a free oil change, because, ya know, that equals three days of time spent and over a thousand dollars! And now, here I sit, two years later with an alternator that will not keep my battery charged. The part is still under warranty and they refuse to admit that their part is the problem. They told me I needed to replace the battery, which I did the day before I took it up there. My car is completely dead now. I had to wait for two hours to get a tow truck back to the shop, and they still argued about it not being the alternator that they really didn't need to replace to begin with!! They did check it again and actually replaced the part and covered it under warranty, like they should have done the first time. read more

The total amount they were going to charge me was over $1100 for a part that costs $130 and labor that would be about an hour or 2.. Total costs for the job shouldve been no more than $350... They were really trying to screw me.. Here's the kicker of this story - I was being taken home by one of the tech guys and in our convo he mentioned that it was his last week working there. And then I told him how I dont trust these guys anymore and he said that's exactly why he is moving on. First off let me say that I have had two bad experiences with this business. My first experience was when I went by there to check on my steering link and they told me that it was broken and needed to be replaced. They also told me that they would take some money off the bill. I decided to get a second opinion. I went over to a different repair and they took the time to actually look at it instead of just telling me I needed to get it fixed. I was surprised to see the result I got and was very upset at Driver Edge. My second experience was when I went to get my state inspection done and then I had a rpm valve go bad within two hours of my state inspection. I will not take my car back to this place again. If you are suspicious of mechanics go and speak with Alan the Assistant GM. I have been to this location on two different occasions for pre-purchase inspections. Each time, they told me what was wrong and took me out to the car to show, they also showed me the good, new seals, which parts look like they have been replaced etc. He took the time to explain things clearly, concisely and in as much detail as I wanted. Not only were the explanations clear, but he made them simple enough for anyone to understand. This armed me with the information I needed to make a smart purchase that I am very comfortable with. I have been there before for a transmission issue, the gentleman that helped me (whose name I do not know) did guide me through what needs to be done and did not over-sell (recommended a flush and not replacement). But they did recommend a couple of small items that didn't really seem necessary. Flushing fluids and such. Like the below comment, they too tried to tell me I needed to replace an entire part; and when I got a second opinion I simply needed a small fix. The second visit, I made an online appointment; and when I arrived they said it would be an hour wait before they could look at my car. What was the point of the online appointment then? Took my car here for a brake job, tires and state inspection. Quoted me $1184 to replace pads, front rotors, rear drums and some other things but the quote did not include tires! They must have been crazy or thought I was naive. I learned my lesson, never tell a mechanic you want them to do mechanical work AND a state inspection. They'll find things to do on your car so that your car will "pass inspection." In the end, I ended up spending only $298 at Candrell Car Care in Carrollton to get front rotors, pads and a simple cleaning of the rear drums was all I needed. This is much closer to the RepairPal.com estimated cost of $220-$270 for my vehicle in the DFW area. read more

The last time I was at this location was about 5 years ago when I took my Odyssey for some repair and received an inflated quote. I do a lot of research myself and sort of know what to expect before taking my car for repair. I decided to give another try when my check engine light came on last month and went to them for a diagnosis. The code was P0440 Evap System Leak which I had already gotten a few years ago and knew the step by step procedure on troubleshooting it. I was expecting them to give a quote to replace the vapor control valve or carbon canister. Instead, they told me to replace the fuel cap which should be the 1st step in torubleshooting this code. They also suggested that I use the OEM cap. I replaced the cap on my own a few days later and the check engine light was gone. I will surely go back to them now for any future repairs. Honesty can win you a lot of customers and I hope other give them a try as well. read more

Brought my car in here a couple of hours ago to get my yearly inspection. They told me they couldn't pass my vehicle because the window tint was too dark. My vehicle is a 2013 which I purchased new and it had factory tint. I have never had any problems with the vehicle passing all these years. And to top it off, this very same place is where I had it inspected last year. Went down the street to another place and it passed without any problems. The most irritating thing about this is the fact that I took 1/2 day vacation today to get caught up on various errands and they wasted my valuable time. Don't waste yours! Trust the reviews, there is a reason they have such a low rating! The manager also asked me if I needed an oil change or free brake inspection. These guys never seem to have a front desk person available to help someone coming in. I went in trying to see if they had a state inspection person there. The front desk person was just looking at a vehicle with what seemed to be the only mechanic there. And! There were 2 people ahead of me and we were stuck waiting. For 10 MINUTES STRAIGHT! Unbelievable. So, by the time the front desk person came to the front, the guy second in line had the same question I had, so I just up and left. Bottom line: if you are going to run a business, have someone at the front at all times to help your customers. It's rude to make people wait. I took my car for asking to change engine oil and state inspection, they ordered me to repair total $1600 to pass it. But I went to another car shop after that, they said O.K. and my car passed state inspection at the same day.They charged me $180 for several parts changed and checked. At the next day, I went to a car shop( Not here) to change a battery, he said that Air filter and Cabin air filter are dirty, doesn't be changed. Also, Air filter box is opened, set up other way and screw is missing. And it is still using "Volvoline's" oil Filter though they said to change new one. So I came in asking for a check engine light. I asked the guys how much it would cost me to repair everything, they told me 466 bucks : I had to do a smoke test and then there was 3 things to repair, an oil leak and something else I don't have the invoice with me. So I'm like 'sure let's do it', when I arrive to pay, they wanted to charge me 966 bucks, and the funny thing ? 400 bucks are only for what they call ´labor charge' : I had to pay double of what I expected ? The only car place I've experienced that is completely honest and helpful. They walked me through everything, showing me and giving recommendations and THEN asked me what I'd like to do. Some places just perform work without asking, slapping crazy fees, and usually never show/prove you need work done. These are very nice honest guys and I've been back ever since! read more
