Honest Mechanics DO Exist!!! I took my car to Driver's Edge blindly. I searched for a mechanic in my zip code & they came up, and I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. They diagnosed my car with a legitimate but costly repair. It was overheating and leaking coolant. Daren (sp) took the time to walk through all of the specifics of what my repair entailed, but went a step further to suggest a less costly alternative to having my car repaired at their shop. I was unaware that my problem was covered under my dealer warranty. He looked into having the repair covered, and provided me with all of the necessary information to have my car fixed by the dealership AT NO COST!!! I have never had such a wonderful experience with an auto mechanic. Driver's Edge is committed to quality service and ensuring that their customers are treated well. Even though they are not handling this repair, I will be using them in the future for all of my car's maintenance in the future. Integrity just can't be bought. read more

I actually been to this location several times. This time I had to go because my battery that I purchased from Driver Select a year ago died on me today while I was on my lunch break:( I called and spoke to the manager and he told me to bring my car in because they don't have problems with their batteries. He questioned if I left my lights on are if my alternator was bad. I ended up getting my battery for free because it was still under warranty. I ended up not going back to work because he took so long getting my battery installed. He told I had a "special" type of battery that he didn't have, therefore he called other shops to get the battery. The manager came back to me after 15 minutes telling me no one had it and it would be tomorrow morning until he get a battery. After I let him know I had to go to work he called someone else and told me he could use another battery. I was at the shop for 2.5 hours just to replace a battery!!! The manager was not the nicest and didn't was not a clear communicator. I would not visit this place again. Only if my battery depended on it! read more

If you want to pay higher price than the dealers, go to Driver's Edge. I called around to get an estimate for a water pump and thermostat replacement job for my 2006 525i. Here's what I got: Dealers estimate - $1,300 Drivers Edge estimate - $1,700 I told the guy at DE that I already called around and that I wanted to get his best price and he quoted me $1,700! I ended up getting the job done at another local shop with much better reviews and got it done around $1,000. After I told the guy at the DE the estimate I got from the other shop he had a nerve to ask me "so what can I do to earn your business?" I didn't even bother to ask him to match the price since I couldnt trust this guy. STAY AWAY from this place people! read more

I went to get a wheel alignment bcuz I had taken my car to Mercedes the day before and drivers edge would do the job for less, but then said I needed breaks and rotors and sensors and a new car. When Mercedes would charge me $231 for breaks, total. This guy is trying to charge me $725 for rotors and sensors and stuff I don't need. My time is money - went in for an oil change and brake job, which began when I arrived (when the doors opened at 7am), and was told it would be a 90-minute service. Almost 4 hours later - I'm still here...waiting. Just say how long it REALLY takes, or don't give an estimate at all...and let me decide if I want to wait or not. I drive a vehicle that is notorious for burning oil and therefore needing to be topped off every 1,000 miles or so. On this particular instance, I'd forgotten to top off my oil after receiving the indication to do so and was still quite a way from home. I pulled into the closest "car place" (Firestone) and asked to buy a quart of oil. I was told they don't sell oil by the quart. I explained my situation and simply needing my oil to be topped off, and they still declined to help me. I drove further down the road and pulled into Driver's Edge where I was kindly greeted by the GM, Bill Foster. Not only did he agree to sell me a quart, but when asked what my total was, he told me I owed him nothing but a handshake and to stop by again for my future car needs. I have had work done by them in the past and they are always reasonably priced and most importantly, HONEST. One recent example is that I took my two year old car in because the battery kept running down. They did the testing and determined that it was indeed the battery. They also told me that the battery was still under warranty with Honda and that I should probably take it to them instead. They did not charge me anything. I really appreciated that and that experience solidified my loyalty as a customer. read more

Unbelievable how they bladinently rip people off. I'm going to the Attorney Generals Office and the BBB with this location! My BF took his car there to get his air conditioner fixed. After 3 visits and hundreds of $$'s it still wasn't fixed. Today he was told he needs a new compressor and it would be appropriately $800 when he just spent $100 to fill up freon THREE DAYS AGO! Today....they refused to refund $100. Air conditioner still broke. Rude as shit. They don't open at 7 like their sign says (it's whenever the manager feels like showing up) And the list goes on and on!! Attorney General here I come! Not someone you can trust. My vehicle inspection was failed for driver side tint being at 24% with 1 point margin of error saying the Texas legal limit is 30%. I was advised to take the tint off. I have Wincos 30% in the front I could not believe the results because Wincos is a reputed brand and they won't cheat you (for a fucking $600 job). I came back and checked the Texas legal limit on DVM side and found the legal limit is actually 25% and above. So, these guys not only played on the numbers, they lied about the legal limits too. None the less... I went back and told them about the Texas legal limits and they put it on the inspector being new and issued me the pass certificate. Here is the fact, tints being dirty can cause the numbers to be off - they did not advise or tried cleaning themselves infact simply told to take tint off and give the test retry... later, I realized they deal in tinting services so guessing could be because of conflict of interest they messed-up the test on purpose... Do NOT go here!!! I had been coming here for years and while these guys have not been ideal,I thought they had done the job correctly more often than not. Apparently I was completely wrong. i took my car in because it needed a oil change and my power steering was having issues when I started up the car. These guys changed the oil, then tried to scam me with a rack and pinion replacement for $1600! They said that the power steering fluid was leaking from the rack and pinion. Thank goodness I got a second opinion on this as $1600 seemed really high for this repair. I took it to a more reputable garage, who told me Driver's edge has 1. spilled oil everywhere during the oil change, 2. has added TRANSMISSION fluid in my power steering instead of power steering fluid, and 3. There didn't look like there was any leak in the rack and pinion, which did not need to be replaced. In addition they could have done the replacement for $600 less with a similar warranty if it did have to be replaced. These guys are ripoff artists and I will not be returning again. read more

They quoted me a $900 estimate for a new starter / battery cables!!!! I may not be too mechanic savvy, but I know enough to NOT get swindled! I took my car to them in June for AC repair -- paid over $850 which is supposed to include a three-year warranty. Ended up taking my car back each week for three weeks straight because the AC stopped working -- compressor, leaky O-rings, etc. My air worked fine for the month of July. Guess what? It stopped working again! Today (8/18/15) makes the FOURTH time I've to take my car back (needless to say, I had to miss work AGAIN). I get a call from Todd who says that (after them having my car for 7 hours) the problem is now an AC line and....get this...wants to charge me $350!!!! WTHeck?! What about the warranty? I feel totally screwed! Not going back -- not even for an inspection. Speaking of inspections - when I first moved here (2009), I took my car to them for a state inspection. The technician forgot to fully put down the hood and I didn't notice until I got on the interstate (I635) and noticed my hood was about to fly up!!!! read more

Screw this place! My AC magically stopped working and went here because it's where I normally get my oil changed. Every time I've gone they try to up sell me and I always decline. Well they looked at my AC and said its one of two things and it would be $800 to fix. Decided that sounded a little steep so I went to a place down the street. They looked at it and flat out told me Drivers Edge was trying to scam me because I'm a girl!! New place quoted me $350. Worst part?? They don't even deserve 1 star but I had to enter something. Maybe other locations are ok, but this location is dishonest. They charged me for and said they replaced my brakes - all 4 - with new rotors & pads. I took my SUV back because my new brakes were squealing and was told it was due to moisture in the air ?? They kept doing this. I kept taking it back. In the interim, I get an oil change at another place only to find out I DID NOT have new rotors and new brake pads only in the front. I was livid. Took it back to DE and they told me 'no, we just turned them' (but I paid for new). THEN, the manager tells me he'll do them again...but wait, they couldn't be turned!! So they never did it in the first place! I'm now talking to the manager who says he'll put all new rotors on - for no charge ?? Um, that's what I paid for initially. What a despicable place that calls themselve's a business. On a warranty return Driver's Edge said they had assessed the problem that the recommendation was to replace the AC compressor and everything associated with it. I said that would be fine because it's under warranty--they did not check prior to the call. Approximately two hours later the store manager called back and said that a third party had placed aluminum foil in the AC system and they could no longer honor the warranty. At that point I had enough and asked to have the HQ regional director call me. I received a call immediately and was told that it was not aluminum foil, but particulates from the damaged compressor. However, he told me the particulates from the compressor had damaged the condensor, the receiver dryer and orifice tube and would cost me $600. I immediately went to another local garage to get advice and they said that the only item that should be paid for would be the condensor because everything else is changed out when compressors are replaced. After another discussion the bill then dropped to $400. I am still disgusted by not replacing everything attached to a faulty compressor that originally caused all the damage. After that was somewhat resolved, I was told the condensor fan no longer worked. They told me the fan would be at their wholesale price; $195 with no labor charge. Online, I could not find a fan that was greater than $85 retail; once again their BS is relentless. Furthermore, I told them originally to change the oil and asked them if I needed a coupon to get the lowest price. They said that they would give me the lowest price at $29. Unfortunately, in my back pocket was their direct mail piece that offered a $19.95 oil change; do I need to say more. Do not do business with this organization unless your need a state inspection (fixed expense-don't worry they will find something wrong with the car-take it elsewhere) or you really don't care about unethical business practices. read more

We took our car for an estimate (we wanted to check it before listed the car for sale) and got a $1500 estimation with a note that there was soooo much wrong with the car that not even sure where to begin. Never the less we took the car to another place for a second opinion and guess what? NO issues with the car. But this is not the end of it. Now we are selling the car and noticed from Carfax that Driver's Edge reported our car being serviced by them AND noted the odometer over 25 000 miles more than the actual! I went to a $20 oil change and they upsold me fluid changes for $150. and the worst part is, they took 2 hours for this and there were not many people there. When I enquired about the delay, they said it'll be done in 5 minutes. They didn't finish in 5 minutes and I went to see the car. then they told me that the when they removed plate to replace oil, plate was broken and oil was leaking. They told me that it was my car problem. They don't have part to replace on that day. So, they took 2 more days to finish this and charged 300 more for this plate. $20 oil change turned into $500 work for 3 days. Never going back to that place, worst experience so ever. read more

Absolute nightmare. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR THERE!! They overcharge for parts and always, and I mean always find something else wrong with your car. I had my car towed over there and told Matt on the phone that I believe the problem was the alternator. The battery was pretty new being purchased earlier in April of the same year. I even told him that. He called me back and said it was the battery. He put a new battery in the car. After paying for the service, I started the car in the parking lot and the battery light along with various other lights were blinking. I went back in to inform Matt and he said that his tech had left for the night and that he could keep it over night. I told him that the check engine light was also blinking now and that it had not been blinking earlier. He said that he has no way of knowing that since the car was dead when it was towed over there. He was going to charge me $100 to diagnose the "check engine light". I told him that I would just take the car home. I called Pep Boys the next morning to see if the battery was still under warranty. They towed it in to their shop and said the battery is dead because the alternator is bad. After recharging the battery, I barely got the car home. I took the battery that Driver's Edge had sold me back to them for a refund. They said that they would not exchange it because I had "authorized" the service. I told them that the only reason I authorized the service was because I trusted their word as supposed professionals. After misdiagnosing the problem with my vehicle in the first place, they had the audacity to try to keep my money. I was furious. I couldn't believe what was happening. He only kept repeating that I had authorized the service. After arguing with the General Manager for about 10 minutes, he finally agreed to use the money I had spent toward an alternator replacement. I bought a new alternator at O'Reilly's and they installed it. Needless to say, the car runs fine now. In addition to being incompetent, Matt was extremely rude and immature. He talked down to me. I also found it funny that he wasn't able to diagnose the alternator after I told him what the problem was but was able to identify that I had a power steering pressure hose leak. He told me that the part alone to replace would be $850! Yes, that is not a typo, $850!! I found 3 different places online that charge between $220 to $250. I will never darken the doorway of that place again! Absolutely terrible in every way!! read more

do not take your vehicle here they put the wrong oil in my car I also brought my car in to get the transmission fluid replaced they did the antifreeze instead and didn't bother to tell me I know because I took it somewhere else where they did a multipoint inspection and said the transmission fluid was burnt and showed me it was supposed to have been replaced 10 k miles ago by the stinking drivers edge who lied or just screwed up thanks morons now I put over 50 k on the transmission fluid. they suck do go here. read more

I normally don't write reviews but I feel this time it is warranted to give honest feedback to anyone reading this. I have been going to Drivers Edge in Irving, TX for approx. 6 years now. I have a Tacoma and a Corolla which have both been serviced there. To start, the first time I went to the shop I asked if they could follow Toyota factory recommended maintenance. The manager literally downloaded the factory maintenance schedule for both cars and I have been following them ever since. These are the exact same guidelines that any dealership will use since they were written by Toyota itself. I have done more maintenance on the Tacoma since it is older (2003), than on the Corolla. I usually "shop" dealerships and other places to see if there are specials/coupons I can use, and if I do find any Drivers Edge usually matches the price without questions. From experience, the dealers are normally priced far above what I have paid at this shop. The most expensive thing I have done is replace the A/C compressor, which overall cost about $1200 at this shop. Toyota of Irving, Toyota of Dallas, and Vandergriff Toyota in Arlington all were charging between $1500-$1800. I called several other shops: Firestone in Irving and Goodyear in Coppell, they wanted to sell me what they called an "A/C kit" which replaces parts that are fully functional, for $1800 or so. Drivers Edge told me straight forward what was needed and the cost with no gimmicks. As to the mechanics, I have found them to be knowledgeable and generally older (30's and 40's) so you get experience and don't have to worry about immature behavior. Lastly, I want to comment on auto maintenance itself: you MUST maintain your vehicle, any vehicle, if you expect it to last... no exceptions! I have noticed a correlation between people who skip oil changes or go cheap on their maintenance, and those who generally complain the most. My Tacoma now has 241,000 miles and I have no problem using it as a "daily driver" vehicle. I do all the routine maintenance on time and use fully synthetic oil (which is more expensive) to ensure I maximize engine life. I highly recommend this shop to anyone who asks and after 6 years I intend to stick with them. read more

This is probably my third time coming to drivers edge for different services and I feel foolish for doing so. The first few times I went I had a busted radiator and needed new brakes on my 2006 Nissan 350z and the manager at the time overcharged for that. First, they spit out crazy prices to you then when you say no thanks they bait you in by saying they can give you discounts for getting all the services done. Needless to say, that was about $2000 I regret because we found a shop on the other side of Irving where the owner specializes in Japanese cars and he has OEM parts that he installs for dirt cheap. Then I made the mistake of coming here this last time on my way next door to discount tires to get a tire patched. I saw some oil droppings in the garage and said let me get that checked out while I'm over here. So a young mechanic that apprently doesn't know how to drive manual, jumps in my car and Rams it up the curb because he doesn't know how to reverse. So they looked at it and showed me the leak and I hesitated to let them fix it because he said it was $196.00. Then after he saw I wasn't having it he said $150. Then they offered headlight restoration for $89 so I agreed to that only because they said it would look "brand new". So I left my car there for a job he said would take 3 hours since I was the only one there. That was at 2 pm. 630 pm, 30 minutes before they closed, no one ever called me to come get my car so my fiancé drove me there to only find out that they are still working on the car! And had 4 other cars in the bay. Sat there til after closing 730 for my car. The headlights do NOT look brand new at all they honestly look about the same or worse since the spray he used made the lens opaque. I told the guy I don't like the job he did and he said well you can come back and we will do better. So I drive off and before I can make the u-turn, my car overheats!!!!!! So I turn right back around and drive up there steaming mad and the guys look at me like they could care less. So a senior mechanic drives the car for 10 minutes to see what the problem is and when he comes back he says the new guy didn't flush the line to get air out so the oil was not getting to the engine! Then he says don't give that guy a hard time he is new... Well shouldn't someone supervise to make sure he is doing things correctly. So here we are today, I go back to tell the manager I'm not happy with the job they did on the headlights and that the mechanic told me to come back and get them redone. Well he looked at them and said no they look great and they can't get any better than what they look like, and by the way he did not see them before. All this to say BEWARE!!!! Do not go to these people they get over on you and make up prices and go back on their word and their products. I wish I could give a ZERO star but it isn't an option. read more
