We quit eating here about 4 years ago. Before that, each of our experiences were terrible and we wouldn't go back for 9-12 months. We tried giving it 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chances. At this point, i wouldn't even eat here if it was the only restaurant left in New Orleans. I won't drink here either because my last beer tasted like mildew. Do yourself a favor, and go next door and get a pizza (excellent service and food there) or if it's lunch go a few more blocks to Toute Suite. Or just eat out of the vending machine at the ferry terminal. Most recently, the female manager was outside having a nervous breakdown screaming into her cellphone and repeatedly yelling the F word in some sort of drug-induced temper tantrum. I was walking by with my 5 year old daughter (who heard all the bad words). The male owner was just sitting there, watching her act like an unprofessional lunatic while she screamed in front of all the customers and passersby. He simply did not care, which is weird and troubling. If he doesn't respect the neighborhood and his customers enough to give them a moderately peaceful meal, what the heck does he allow to go on in the actual kitchen? He is an incompetent business owner, and the majority neighborhood thinks this place sucks. read more

Its a charmer. We heard that the fee to ride across the Mississippi River to Algiers was $2.00 adults, $1.00 seniors. A $6.00 round trip with bragging rights we'd technically boated Old Man River. Algiers is so New England/Creole adorable. Charming people, homes, and pets. A puppy named Beniet decided to follow us to the Irish pub we had on our To Do list. Best. Irish Coffee. Ever...at least in Louisiana. A mix of locals and tourists. One great Irish Coffee is allowed to lead to two when we are days happily ignoring cars to safely snoop the little bars/delicious eateries on foot, trolley, on and off bus (our favorite) and now ferry across the Mississippi. Totally DO THIS. Ferry to Algiers from public transit and hit the pubs. Sit. Stay awhile. St. Patricks Day promises to be excellent. read more

Made it across the river to visit Algiers Point. Wakes around and ended at the cafe for lunch before we took the ferry back to the other side. This is a small little but nice place. The staff were all nice. We were attended to right away. We shared a platter and it was plenty for the two of us. Fish was nice and flaky. The toast was nice and buttery. The Dry Dock has great food and a pretty good beer selection. The service hasn't been that great the last few times I have been, but the food makes up for it. I have been here probably a hundred times over the years. Some of their best items are: chicken caesar salad, club sandwich, muffuletta (they will make it with turkey too), steak sandwich, alligator sausage, pelican chicken sandwich and the Bestbank burger. The Bestbank Burger is my favorite. They also have a jukebox. Play some Hank Williams, get hammered, then ride the ferry back to your hotel if you are a tourist. Liked the feel..like the locals here, a lot...just down the way from the ferry dock. I typically only end up here when I decide to take out of town friends on an adventure on the Algier's Ferry and this usually ends up being our first stop where we grab some food and drinks as it is the closest bar to the ferry. From here we usually continue to the Crown & Anchor and Old Point Bar. This is a good sized space and they usually have a decent selection of food with some of it being pretty good but most of it is just "ok" for the most part. I've rarely seen it crowded but it does seem to draw a fairly steady stream of tourists who decide to go on the Algier's ferry adventure as well. read more

The Dry Dock Cafe is located in historic Algiers Point on the West Bank, just a stone's throw from the mighty Mississippi River and the ferry dock, hence the name. Established in 1989, this quaint neighborhood restaurant has a full service bar that has the ambiance of a British pub. Elizabeth, the 'elevated staff' server is very attentive and makes you feel like you are dining in your own home. There are many choices on the menu, like seafood platters, pasta, steaks, poor-boys, salads and the like. There are also gluten free dishes such as fried catfish and hushpuppies, and beef tamales. The Dry Dock Cafe is located in New Orleans 2nd oldest neighborhood, called Old Algier's. It is located across the Mississippi River from the French Quarter. To get to Algier's you can take the free Canal St. ferry. It's a nice quick jaunt away from the noise in the Quarter. I was told Algier's did not flood and it showed. The homes there are beautiful and the neighborhood peaceful. The food. We went there three days in a row last week, if that says anything. The oysters are amazing. Shrimp was in season, so the shrimp po-boy rocked! And, I think I can say that the fried catfish was the best I've ever had (I eat lots of fish...haha). Now, if you're not into the fried fish thing, if for nothing else, try the seafood gumbo. They serve nice sized crab legs that are stewed in the gumbo and the server gives you a nutcracker to get at the crab meat. Dry Dock is quite affordable too. You get more than what you pay for! Yum! Dry Dock Cafe is a must on restaurants to visit while in NOLA. I am in love with their shrimp bisque! Their cajun fries are good, and their Crawfish Maureenica is amazing (and it's also a huge serving!). The couple of times that I have been, there has only been 1 - 2 servers, so the service can be slow. However, the food is worth the wait! If you are going with a large group of friends, they do not split checks (like most places in NOLA), so bring cash. read more

This was the most entertaining dining experience I had in NOLA. The bartender was very friendly and amusing and the clientele was very funny. How? Eh, just take my word for it. I was there a couple hangovers ago, so my memory isn't exactly perfect in regards to Dry Dock. I'll just say this much: the place has a very local vibe to it. Other highlights include: 1. The alligator sausage. Quite tasty, highly recommend getting for a snack or appetizer. 2. Getting a free beer sample. The bartender thought I might not like a certain beer and she turned out to be right. Saved me from paying to experiment. 3. That same bartender hooked me up with a free beer after forgetting to put in my order for my po'boy. Overall a GREAT place to just chill while having a drink or two and having some decent food. I just moved to town so was looking for a local, affordable cafe with friendly staff. This is not it. First, the menu posted on Yelp is not even close to their actual menu. When I sat outside to eat, a server and her friend came out, leaned against his car right next to my table and lit up cigarettes. When I got to move to another table further away, they both gave me a weird look. I explained that I have asthma and their smoke was bothering. The guy said, "Come closer then" and they both laughed. Maybe our idea of 'neighborhood' was all screwed due to our privilege of being New Yorkers. We ended up totally getting lost in this area, with a ferry that never came... before we gave up and called a taxi, we saw this little spot. It was Sunday though so it was closed. The next day we got up to make it for brunch/lunch time before we headed over to the French Quarter, and man their food was really good. I forgot what my friend ended up having but I had gotten a catfish po'boy which was probably the best I had on the trip so far-- it came with fries on the side and probably a drink? If the drink wasn't included then it was really inexpensive that I don't remember paying for it haha The hospitality is definitely there in that little spot. Our waitress was an older woman and she was VERY sweet, making sure to check up on us every so often to make sure we were okay. The decor is nice, with some funny pictures and old ads and things like that, the place is nice and spacey so everyone kind of had their own area to chill and relax in. They also have a decent bar area. If we end up staying in Algier's Point again when we visit next year, this place will definitely to be on our to-go list before we go anywhere! They offer a full bar and a wide beer menu, but don't expect any fancy fru-fru drinks with a paper umbrella; you're on the wrong side of the river for that, Darling. Food is hearty, satisfying, and really well prepared. There are a couple tables outside, providing a view of the Algiers ferry and bus terminal. My husband and I live in Algiers and frequent the Dry Dock and always refer people that way when in town. That will change after last night. I called at 7:57 p.m. and a female answered and I place an order for pick up for 2 chicken tenders with fries for my kids for dinner. She told me it would be 10-15 minutes. 20 minutes later I show up and say to the female behind the bar that I am here to pick up a to go order. She seemed confused and did something at the register then without speaking laid a receipt on the bar in front of me for 1 order of tenders. I said no, I called and placed an order for 2 tenders with fries and she said I did not call. She argued with me about it yelling at me that I did not call and speak to her. asked me what number I called so I told her and she went to the caller ID and even READ MY NUMBER BACK TO ME OFF OF IT.. and I said yes that's me and she said well you didn't speak to me did you speak to a male or female and I said female and she continued to yell saying I did not speak to her when clearly I did. She seemed like she was high on something. I told her to forget it. the poor cook came out and tried to ask what it is I wanted to order but was trying to talk over her being loud and rude and I left. WE WON'T BE BACK. read more

I live in Algiers Point and this Cafe is a go to when I don't want to cook myself or if I want a cold beer and to see the game. Located right off the ferry and around the corner from a Pub it's a great way to get away from NOLA downtown and have relaxed and quiet lunch or dinner. They serve up some good home style Cajun food and seafood at a good price. Don't expect service with a smile as they stay hopping when busy and can come off as curt but they're just busy. My parents - who live in the area - brought me and my family and friends here the day after Mardi Gras because they said it had great food. 3 of our party ordered Jambalaya and it came to the table cold. My mom asked the manager? Owner? The guy behind the bar? To get our waitress because our food was cold. The manager told her "calm down, honey." She's 67 and he is much younger than her. The manager followed her and proceeded to scold her for talking disrespectfully to HIM. My brother told him not to talk to his mother that way. And to step away from her. Then the manager started in on my brother and kicked him out of the restaurant. At no time was ANYONE rude or disrespectful. No one other than the manager ever even raised their voices. I then attempted to talk to the manager because everyone - including two children - was trying to eat and he kicked one of our party out for what I have no idea. I wish we had a video of this because it was so outrageous. I explained to him that calling any woman, let alone an older woman, was disrespectful. In the year 2019 you don't call a customer honey unless you're married to her or she's your daughter. Then he told me he was from Philly and he doesn't let anyone tell him how to talk to anyone. And he wasn't going to let any woman tell him he was intentionally disrespecting him. I told him he was now being rude to me for no reason and at this point, he was yelling at me. There was a bar full of witnesses. In short, if someone had acted like that on the street, I would call the police. He was rude, threatening, and disrespectful to 2 women, both of whom were older than him and much smaller than him. He was an asshole. Been dropping in and out of this dive bar for a decade or more. Honestly, my review is the same today as it was when I first started coming: The bar is nice enough. Generous pours. You can get them cheaper elsewhere in the Point, but it's not outrageous, and this is a premium location across from the ferry, and the crowd is familiar. Some faces are the same as they were a decade ago. Staff will slap the regulars on the back and cluster with the old favorites and avoid eye contact with the stranger. No idea what they're paid, so I can't speak to the motivation. But they're slow and distract-able; they lack polish, which befits a New Orleans neighborhood bar but not a tourist-trap bar. (At this writing I've been unattended for fifteen minutes or so. I don't mind, but I know the place.) Food is uneven. Seafood is decent, standard fare bar food is deplorable. So the kitchen wants attention (it could be fantastic), and servers who understand service to tourists would be welcome. But it's been like this for a decade. The place is lacking in every way. Smells like moth balls when you go in. The food and service is garbage. The "wait"staff generally don't give a crap, but it's probably because they are drunk or strung out like the manager. I went with a group, we ordered two burgers, a steak and some pasta with crawfish tails in a cheese sauce. The burgers came out like charcoal bricks (guess medium means something different here). The pasta was dry...how do you make a dry cheese sauce?! The steak was ok, but had so much pepper on it we had to scrape it off. This was my first time to the Dry Dock. My brother is a photographer and was making pictures of New Orleans from across the river on Algiers Point. He pointed to this cafe and said "Let's eat there". I have to say I was a little worried when we walked in. I did like the cozy atmosphere and the Christmas tree. Everyone including patrons were friendly. But what about the food???? I opened the menu and was surprised by the options available! My brother and niece ordered a dessert. I ordered the Seafood Platter and a appetizer I cannot pronounce!!! It had oysters, shrimp and lump crab charbroiled in butter with Parmesan in a cast iron pan!!!!! Served piping hot!!!! It was heaven!! Everyone was hungry all of a sudden!!! We had food left over!! Seat yourself at any of the vinyl-covered tables. Our waitress was attentive, and we ordered drinks ("is Pepsi okay?") and a couple appetizers. Onion rings were average, and spring rolls were 6.99 or so for 3 rolls which they cut in half and alternate around a cup of canned sweet chili sauce... I ordered red beans and rice, and opted for just the beans/rice since I'm trying to eat less meat lately, and my plate came with fatty chunks of mystery meat in it. My date ordered the half and half seafood platter. It was decent, if a little pricey. The BBQ shrimp are unlike any form of BBQ you've ever had. A must try for any visitor or native alike. A strong compilation of rosemary and other herbs and spices combined together in southern hospitality done right. You get six huge shrimp that are steamy, saucy, and ready to peel for enjoyment. The dish also comes with some dipping bread with which you can continue to enjoy the sauce. We also had the gumbo, which is different from location to location, of course, but this establishment's was smooth and delicious. The sausage was cooked into the soup with perfection as it nearly melts away in your mouth, only held together by the sausage liner. It'll have you quickly gathering another spoonful for continued love for your palate. Service was prompt and courteous. Our food came out in great time as well, clearly fresh. Top recommendation.
