I have tried many times in Duang Tawan. It has never disappointed me. the only problem is that it is a little expensive.

If you've never had Thai food before you would enjoy it but people that know what good Thai food is avoid this place or be prepared for disappointment. Food not good! Spring rolls only stuffed with cabbage to much wrapper, were is the meat? Pork chop plate burnt and fried rice was the worst I have ever tasted. "China chef" does a better job. Not a fan and extremely expensive. The only thing that was good was the Thai tea. read more

This place is really delicious, and we'll definitely be coming back. The young woman helping us made sure the kitchen would be able to make our meal vegan and was really thorough about it, letting us know the modifications they did to certain dishes. The woman in the kitchen was our waiter's grandmother and she made vegan alterations to dishes with ease when they were necessary. Vegan-friendliness aside, the food was super good. I have tried all the Thai restaurants in Baton Rouge. Duang Tawan is my favorite. The Atmosphere is quite cozy. The wood carved tabled from Thailand are really neat to look at. I love the Panang. The price is quite reasonable. I rave about it to other people and they always think the restaurant is closed down. IT IS NOT! It appears they have made improvements with signage on the outside to let people know they are open. read more

If you're looking for good Thai in baton rouge, this is your place. My first time going, I got the beef basil fried rice and it was magnificent. I ordered mine extra extra spicy. I got there a little after lunch time so the prices were higher, but I was really surprised with the mountain of basily beefy goodness presented to me. I absolutely stuffed myself with it and even though it was massive, I wanted more because it was sooooo good. I haven't been back to the restaurant, but have had people pick up other dishes for me since. The basil chicken is good as well, but nowhere near as good as the rice. I'm anxious to go back and try their sushi as well. When I went, the owner was kind enough to recommend a dish to me as I had 4 I could not decide between. Now that's service! They also have very good lunch special prices, unfortunately I am always working while they have these. I hope one day I can try them, as this place has never let me down. Despite the looks of the building, I would recommend this place to anyone. If you pay attention, you can see that there are dozens upon dozens of massive basil plants growing around this restaurant - these delicious herbs will likely make it into your dish! This was my first time trying Thai food, so I'm no expert on flavors, but I really enjoyed the garlic shrimp at dinner last night. My brother, who had just returned from a trip to Thailand with his wife, ordered the satay appetizer for us. It was very tasty, too. I don't recall what he ordered for his main course, but he said it was very good. He and his wife eat here nearly every time they are in Baton Rouge. The outside of the building is rather simple looking, but the inside was very pleasant. The decor appears to be authentic Thai. Service was pleasant and efficient. I have been coming here for lunch weekly for the past 7 months or so. The food is consistently delicious. The service is impeccable. This might be one of the best lunch deals in the town. They have a great variety on the menus, the portions are huge and the price is low. The soup and egg roll that come with the lunch plates are really tasty. The two ladies who work in the front are always very kind and attentive. I can't say enough good things about this place, I'll keep coming back every week. read more

I read many great reviews online about this place and never had the chance to try it out for myself. I went with my family the other day and I completely fell in love with the place. The family that owns it is very friendly and nice. They greeted us with smiles and treated us as long lost friends.The inside looks classy and is very clean. The setting is very peaceful and calm. It's a very family friendly environemnt as well. The food is absolutely to die for. I had the Duck Pineapple Curry and it was perfect beyond words. I've visited Thailand a few years back and I can honestly say, the food is not only delicious but absolutely authentic. The proportions are large with a great price. I also love that they will customize your food the way you want it. The only bad reviews I found were on this website and I just had to create an account just to clear their name for them. You won't find a restaurant like this for hundreds of miles. I truly believe this is one of the best kept secrets of Baton Rouge.
