So this place was a last minute last choice type thing, nothing else was open so we went for it. The place was pretty big with plenty of space for small or big groups and the establishment was clean. It was late at night and there were maybe 2 customers inside. They had the big menus on their wall but they also had them on screens where you can proceed to make your order. They take card and you get a little ticket with your order number. Like any fast food restaurant, the food was pretty cheap so that was a plus lol. We got hot dogs, a salad and a drink. The hot dogs looked average and let me tell you, so not impressed. My hot dog was supposed to have crispy onions on it but when I got it, they were regular, could have been my misunderstanding or simply bad advertising, so I scraped them and that took away my ketchup and mustard, leaving my hot dog bald lol... The salad we got looked actually pretty good so I was willing to forgive them for the bad hot dog, thanks to this beautiful salad! The only thing, we asked for no peppers and the first thing I see when I open it, is a giant pepper. How can they get that wrong? It was an empty restaurant with about 2-3 workers so sure enough it shouldn't have been a problem. I got the balsamic vinaigrette, and boyyyyy let me tell you, that was the most tasteless salad I've ever had, it needed salt, it needed flavor, it needed SOMETHING! So I took a sip of my tropical coke and that was the only satisfaction and thing right that I got. Sure it was cheap and at least it filled up my belly but it did NOT fill my heart, so unless you run out of food options and this is the last place on earth standing, I would rather eat at home lol. read more

Duchess has been my favorite fast-food chain for a long time. This is just one of their restaurants I have patronized. Unfortunately the one in Danbury closed a while ago and that was the one that was most convenient for me. I am reviewing this location but the rating and review would apply to any of them. I wish there were more of them, and that they weren't just located in Connecticut. In addition to standard fast-food items, Duchess also has deli sandwiches, soup, dinner platers, and my favorite, chicken parmesan sandwiches. Their milkshakes are superlative, and they have a good variety of desserts well beyond what you normally find at fast food places. You may wait a little longer for your order than you would at a McDonald's, Burger King, or Taco Bell, but the quality of the food is well worth it. read more

How lucky are we in Norwalk to have the best onion rings around in Connecticut this summer season. Paired with a Lobster Roll and their scrumptious lemon meringue pie for desert it's a favorite summer lunch or dinner for two at the beach. Whatever you order, their food is always fresh. It's more like a diner with a drive through window. These young men at the window are always providing excellent customer service 24/7 with a positive attitude. Love their breakfast sandwiches. Me n my brother have been getting their sausage egg n cheese with their chili on it every Sunday morning during Pandemic via drive through. Made fresh to order and it's delicious. Easter Sunday they where closed so we went elsewhere and, ended up throwing most of it out. We are accustomed to Dutchess which is much better. read more

Normally Duchess lives up to it's slogan, fresh food served fast, and is usually very good with orders as everything there is made to order. Today's trip to this location for lunch may be my last. I ordered a chili cheeseburger combo and (as I always do) requested NO FRIED ONIONS. They have a large screen facing the customer where you can see your order so I know it was put in correctly. I'm not sure if they didn't read the no fried onions part or they misread it as extra fried onions (the NO on the screen is in uppercase, guessing it shows that way to the kitchen as well) but the burger was covered with a ton of fried onions. They're melted into the cheese so impossible to fix and after a few bites I threw it out in the trash. The wait seemed like it was a bit long, maybe the drive thru was busy but it wasn't that busy inside the restaurant. I don't mind waiting for food to be prepared to order when you order it but if you're going to make it so I can't eat it just forget it. The curly fries with the combo are 50 cents extra, they come in a container that says "HOT FRESH FRIES" - they were neither. In fact they were undercooked and cold and as a result, rather inedible as well. So the only thing they got right was the drink, which was handing me a cup that I filled myself. I love Duchess, have been a loyal customer for almost 30 years. Make a point of stopping when southern Connecticut. Burger was awesome as usual. Veggie burger gets 5 stars as does the traditional fries and the curly fries. $4 for a side salad that was loaded with water was unacceptable. Ordered a hot dog kids meal for my kid. Hot dogs are different here and not good. Told the cashier, no offer of a refund. Ordered chicken nuggets, fresh chicken with a crisp batter, loaded with liquid, glad I cut the nuggets first. They consistently mess up orders. Food is often poorly cooked and poorly presented. Absolutely zero pride in their work or food. I've been a customer of the Duchess chain since the 1980s. The BIG D glizzy dog was a complete disappointment. I was told I was getting the biggest glizzy globlin on the market and that wasn't even close to reality. Coming from NY I never had Duchess. What a surprise. For fast food I thought it was great. The chili dog and Hot dog all the way was better then Nathans. The onion rings was the best I ever had from fast food. The pastrami sandwich was not a traditional pastrami I am use to but still was good. I also got a BBQ bacon burger and it was also very good. My favorite local fast food ! Duchess is actually the only local fast food I'll eat. After "Supersize Me" I won't touch McDonald's, BK, Taco Bell, etc. But Duchess I'll eat (and Five Guys). They use fresh ingredients and you can really taste the difference. I always order the fish sandwich, a big filet of fish that's actually in the shape of fish, not a rectangle. It's crispy on the outside and soft and flaky on the inside. Their tuna melts are also yummy. Fries are pretty standard, and milkshakes are thick and sweet. Service is good too, I went through the drive through and requested hot sauce. I'm not sure if they ran out, but they handed me one of the bottles that usually sit on the tables and suggested I keep it in my car for future cravings. I spy ordered a #1 meal with L.K.M and in my bag I received 2 breakfast sandwiches in which i did not order,so I travel back 3 miles to this establishment to find my food waiting for me as if I made the mistake. The food is slightly higher quality fast food. More expensive, sure, but expense is no guarantee of quality. The real issue I have with Duchess is their customer service. They have in their employ (or encourage a local resident) to sit in their parking lot and reprimand people for parking jobs he deems unacceptable. In addition, if it appears someone is using the lot without entering the establishment for food, he shouts at them. I've eaten at various Duchess restaurants at least 1,000 times over the years. I'm a retired chef and worked in the food business my entire career. For me Duchess is about one thing....Hot Dogs. I consider myself a hot dog aficionado and their griddled, natural casing, beef and pork Hummel Brothers wieners are terrific. The only other thing I've eaten here are egg sandwiches, OK but make sure to order with butter, salt and pepper. Their coffee is the best fast food coffee in the area. Food is ok. Prices are a bit high for a fast food joint, but I suppose it's fair due to the variety they offer. The manager, Maurico is horrible! I went through the drive-thru and placed an order. Apparently there was a miscommunication along the way, but the guy went off! Rather than asking me what I ordered, he basically said, through the intercom, that the order was impossible, etc. I was completely infuriated. It was an awful way to start my morning. Duchess used to be about fresh, well made food. While they still offer a variety of food, much of the menu offers are now dreadful. The formerly thick hearty burgers are now razor thin patties of McDonalds ilk. Ordered "Grilled Chicken Sandwich" tonight. The chick was some sort of 1/8" thick slice of a chicken breast. We on flavor, certainly of any "grilled" variety, the sandwich included two tomato slices that had green center cores in them. Fries are quite good and luckily they can't mess up the Coke Stylemaster machine. Hot dogs are ok, but pricey. Son ordered french toast and felt it was under cooked. Time to find another destination for quick and easy. Dining area is clean enough, TV is nice touch. Staff is good but struggles with English or heavy accents. I came here at 11:00PM with my wife a few weeks ago on business because I couldn't find anything else in town. This place is strange - its fast food but they have like real dinner food. The portions are mindblowingly huge. Only a very drunk person who hasn't eaten all day could finish it. Service was okay. Terrible service at the pick up window EVERY TIME. Rudest pick up window I have ever been to. Don't ask for condiments--you will get a scary look. They might part with a ketchup packet or two--with "the look". So rude in general at the window...no thank you, NOTHING. Whew.
