Come for the breakfast burrito and have a what I can only describe as the "fanciest doughnuts around" ( I wrote that in a snooty British accent ). The staff is super friendly, if you're like me, call ahead and order To Go. They do sell sandwiches and lunch, but I'm here for the grilled chicken burrito!! Craziest thing is you ask for a donut sample the kind ladies behind the counter may just give a little. I would post a picture but the food never last that long. She is very bubbly with a nice smile, and i can tell, she puts a lot of thought and effort into her interactions with her customers. It may be because we dont have too many fried chicken places in Hawaii but this was hands down the best chicken sandwich, or even breakfast sandwich i ever had. While it's not my favorite fried chicken sandwich place, I am giving 5 stars because of the service, portion size, quality, and cost where it hit all the marks! This used to be called Birdies but it's rebranded now with a new owner, but same menu from what I can tell. I was hesitant with the new ownership but glad I gave it a try. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and it was the thickest cut of chicken I have seen on a sandwich yet where I had to unhinge my jaw just to bit through this delicious monstrosity. To add, they used legit Thai chili peppers that added a real heat to the sandwich I loved! The coleslaw was subtle where it added a nice crunch and refreshing bite without overpowering the sandwich in what usually ends up a saucy mess. I would definitely come back and recommend others to give it a try! The guy working was also nice enough to hook it up with a complimentary donut which was delicious! The server was so kind and helped me with ordering a Build Your Own Burrito. She suggested the fried chicken, and I took her up on her offer. I also ordered a chai with oat milk. The place is cozy, and unlike some places where people are rushing in and out, the patrons who come here were friendly and everyone interacted with each other awesomely (yes, I believe this is a word). We stopped by Duchees around 7pm and were blown away by how fresh everything tasted, even the donuts, which you'd expect to get a little stale by the evening, were soft and flavorful! I ordered the 9-piece chicken with fries, and wow, the fries were perfectly crunchy and the chicken was juicy, crispy, and full of flavor. You can tell they don't cut corners here. For donuts, I tried the Boston cream and the blueberry. The Boston cream had a delicious custard that wasn't overly sweet and even had a subtle banana flavor, so good. The blueberry donut really stood out too, it tasted like real blueberries, not the usual artificial flavor you get elsewhere. I also tried two drinks: the matcha latte, which was very matcha-forward (a bit strong for my taste since I usually like sweeter drinks, but still good quality), and the horchata latte, which could've used more horchata flavor, but was overall solid. To top it all off, the customer service was amazing. The guy who helped us was super friendly and took the time to explain what was in each donut, he even convinced me to try two instead of just one. Duchess is very unassuming from the outside but the food is out of this world. I've had the Jr Chicken Slider, fries, blueberry donut, Oreo cream donut and the best don't I've ever tasted: pistachio lemon. Go between 3-6pm and you'll be tempted to take part in Happy Hour where donuts are buy one get one free!! Ugh the prices, service and taste can't be beat. I did not get to eat at their former location but feels like this place is a great spiritual successor. I tried the Duchess Bites combo and the portion was huge, each chicken bite was really big and I was expecting chicken nugget size, also comes with fries. I also tried the horchata donut per suggestion and it was delicious, I want to try other flavors on my next visit. You also get a free iced horchata latte upon checking in. Big plus being in DTLA is opening early to avoid the crowds or so I thought. Went just after opening on Saturday on a mini walk and there was one person waiting for their order. Plunked down a respectable $14 for a chicken sandwich which is probably the cheapest price you're going to find anywhere for a substantial portion and immediately about 10 people flocked right behind me aka the golden foot. One day someone's going to hire me to just stand in their shop for this reason. Already a very small area and loud music which not really to my liking I changed the order to go it took almost 25 minutes to make a chicken sandwich I think if you come for lunch you will probably have dinner here unless more staff is rolling out food, but anyways cute small place had no idea it's really tucked away on a side street and would have never known unless Yelp suggested it. Anyways after making it to go and ordering a regular fried chicken sandwich took it to the office a mile away and started wolfing it down. The bread leaves a lot to be desired it wasn't as fresh as should be, and prefer a nice toasted brioche. Besides that could not find flaws in the sandwich the chicken is a nice juicy breast not dried out and has a nice batter that doesn't separate from the meat which is rare. Not much flavoring in the batter but definitely a solid sandwich that I will probably come back and eat once in a while. Still the fried chick championship belt goes thru Fixins near the Lakers Stadium but they open at 10:30 I'm having none of that. For the price and portion it was quite solid I would give it a B+... if the bread was better it would be an A-. Friendly cashier greeting everyone in the morning and I like the variety they have you can have breakfast burritos with/without chicken but it just takes too long, even when they don't have any customers before you waiting... they need to speed up the process. So, more seasoning on the batter and better bread would make pretty much a flawless sandwich. Did the job though and served as a nice brunch very filling. There's some street parking right out front which you will have no problem finding if you're a Early Bird like me but besides that good luck I'm fortunate that I can walk here. read more

Service is fantastic, the front girl was so nice and kind. I tried their Nashville hot chicken sandwich in hot level spiciness and it wasn't very good. Being from the South and having been to Nashville many times, I'd say they haven't tried it if they're calling what they served me Nashville hot. The sandwich had 2 chicken breast tenders inside that were crispy, but so dry. Unless you know how to cook chicken real well, most will overcook breast meat. It had cabbage slaw and pickles inside. Nothing except the chicken was seasoned. The bread I threw away, cabbage slaw didn't even have any mayo on it.... It was so bland I just ate the tenders by themselves dipped in ketchup. The fries were also not seasoned and super bland. The only decent thing was the ranch, but they charge $0.50 and only filled the tiny cup halfway. My friends always go for the chicken sandwich & love it. Their baristas are well trained. I'm usually kind of picky about coffee but they've never let me down. Staff are sweet & extra careful with boxing to go orders. I don't give 5 stars bc if the grease needs changed, the chicken breading has a different flavor and texture and not at all worth $13. The chicken was tender and well seasoned, the bacon was crispy, scrambled egg were fluffy, cheddar cheese is good quality, and the bun was soft. The splash of chipotle mayo took this sandwich from an 8 to a solid 10! I haven't had a breakfast sandwich that good in a long time! Chicken is way better than that medium well stuff Birdie's would serve up!
