I ordered online at the Middletown store at 7:30am for a pickup at 8:30. After a 25 minute drive, I got there only to find that there were only two workers there, of which one was underage to do anything other than take orders. Two people were in line were placing their walk-in orders. When I got to the clerk, she explained to me that it would be a while since they hadn't started my order, yet they were doing the walk-in orders ahead of mine. I asked the manager why that was happening and she explained she was the only one that could make donuts and I'd have to wait. I then asked to cancel my order and she told me she couldn't cuz she was busy making orders. She finally got to my cancellation, never apologized, and never looked at me during the process. Good in theory but...... people cannot be in charge of picking their toppings for donuts it just becomes anarchy. I'll admit I was intrigued by the thought of combing lemon, coconut, chocolate icings etc but one left to their own imagination will inevitably choose to much, thus creating a muddled flavored fried mess. Or maybe that's just me, I can't be trusted. I drove pretty far out of the way to try these and have to say I was quite disappointed. I walked in to a cute donut shop with more merchandise for sale then donuts i.e. donut socks and mugs. It took forever for someone to come out and take my order as 2 other workers clearly tried to ignore me. Finally I decided on the Maple glaze with bacon pieces and salted caramel and chocolate drizzle. The bacon was bad, the icing was cloyingly sweet and I couldn't taste caramel or chocolate from the drizzle. The donuts are fried fresh to order which takes I understand. My second donut I chose lemon icing coconut topping with raspberry and chocolate drizzle. I could not taste lemon at all the coconut was untoasted sweetened shreds that were like candy and couldn't taste raspberry or chocolate. The concept is awesome. However, the batter used is similar to a moist, Dunkin Hines cake batter. It is not crispy like DD. Also, when you lift the donut, it may break apart. Probably the best donuts I've ever had. They make it fresh to order so you can watch the whole process. Afterwards, they hand you your order and it's super fresh and hot. We ordered the half dozen of the maple bacon, chocolate with chocolate sprinkles, s'mores, chocolate with peanut butter, chocolate with vanilla and sprinkles, and a chocolate and vanilla. I like the French Toast and cinnamon bun flavored ones...and the vanilla with rainbow spinkles...and the peanut butter. Really, you can't go wrong here as long as you like doughnuts. If you pick them up to eat later, you can put them in the microwave and it's just about the same fresh taste. They also offer coffee and cold drinks here but that's about it. I can't believe I have not heard of this place!!! I was in the area killing time and was recommended to visit here. This place makes their doughnuts on site and topped fresh to order. Warm, soft and moist on the inside and crispy on the outside topped with many options of icing. The staff was super friendly and looked like they really enjoyed being there and making more donuts. There is a donut topping of the day that changes frequently. I ordered half dozen and there is the option of picking each ones topping or just asking for an assorted and let the staff top them with their favorites. I chose my toppings but in the end probably should have let them pick. My favorite one was maple bacon and plain glazed was a close second.
