We happened to chance on this place since I wanted calamari, but when I saw they had fried shrimp and chips I was torn. They suggested I get a combo plate of both calamari and shrimp. Perfect! We also ordered red manhattan calm chowder in a bread bowl. The serving of manhattan chowder was a good amount, served in a pasta sized bowl which held the bread bowl filled with chowder. No soup went to waste. The combo plate was excellent, I'm not fond of heavily fried / breading shrimps. The shrimps were lightly breaded and fried which let the seafood shine. Same with the calamari, plus the calamari were juicy soft chunks. We were so happy with our food. I'm glad the lady suggested the combo plate. The little place had indoor and outdoor sitting. You order up front and take your number plaque to a table of your choice. We sat outside in the spring weather. And the observant busboy was right at our elbow when we got up with our finished plates, handed them off the busboy. We do recommend this place and would be back! read more

OMG SO GOOD. ok so this starts with this morning we were in town (me and my mom) and we were trying to find a place to eat but some of the cafes around here just sucked because they weren't fresh food and kind of stale everywhere we went but this place was really good!! super yummy clam chowder lots of clam in it and was hot even when we ordered to go! nice people too, so make sure to tip!! the overall experience was nice because we sat outside near the pier and ate there. the only "eh" part about it was the sourdough on the clam chowder bowl was a little dry and tough, but the chowder was super good. read more

Clam chowder had no clams! Wtf? More like an overly creamy potato soup. No seasoning, no herbs, no carrot, no celery, seriously not ok if you call yourself a "chowder house". We were bummed because it came recommended. My partner had the Duckies Dawg and gave that a thumbs up. I had shrimp and chips. Tons of "chips" not many shrimp. They were on the small side, too, but the breading, which is more like a dredge, was yummy. For $16 I would expect half again as much at that price and size. Once you've landed that comfy, coveted spot you can relax and people watch until those tasty morsels of seafood are delivered. The fried shrimp Isn't fantail, which is nice. The coating is more astatine than a batter. The chowder is good ( if you don't take chowder from splash in Pismo in to account). The fish is fresh and wonderful. I like this place. Nah! Being from New England I know a thing or two about about chowder - or CHOWDAH as we call it, and this one is not it. You'd think they get it right for their signature dish. But I found this version to be a very commercial and starchy recipe. In fact, there were huge chunks of starch/dough in my bowl. Couldn't really taste the clams. But the few ones in there were tender. Take a trip up the Maine coast in September and then you'll know the true meaning of New England clam CHOWDAAH. It's nothing like Duckies. Fish and chips - fish was good but needs to be waaay crispier. Calamari and chips. Nice and tender, but also could use a crispiness. Garlic fries were the best part of the meal. Cool decor though. And my kids thought it was fun sitting on barstools hanging out over the sidewalk. read more

Every time we come to this area we eat here. We come about 3 times a year and stay for 1-2 days. We have tried almost everything but our favorite is the combo seafood with fries and the chicken with fries and we always get the clam chowder bowl (it's not the best though but we still order it lol) their fish is good as well. It's in a great spot you can eat outdoors, inside (COVID so not now) or take to go. Right at the corner to the beach and the peer. BUT if you going when it's busy ohhhh boy you will not find a parking. Circle as much as you want there will be nothing, nothing at all. Lol read more

Cute little open air, mom & pop style restaurant....has counter to order from, but they bring your food out. Serve your own drinks. Seemed very clean, everyone was polite and friendly. Delicious food. Had the "Other" salad-it has huge shrimp, cooked to perfection and so fresh!!!! Just fabulous. Also had the Captain's Plate which had different batters on different types of fish. Took the family here and the kids enjoyed it, I was satisfied and the hubby loved that they had some good beer on tap. Can't really go wrong with fish n chips, chowder and chicken Caesar salad. All were super yummy & we loved the tarter sauce, (our personal test of excellence). Service was okay, we don't expect much...it's just funny sometimes to see the faces in the younger workers faces when they see a 6ft4inch tall black man with dreads in Cayoucos, CA... they think he's some basketball-star... but nope just ya regular folk stopping by. I love New England style clam chowder so when I read the review of Duckie's, I decided to give it a go! Duckies offer a wide range of seafood items. We got the fish tacos, clam chowder and the combination fried seafood which includes fish, shrimp, oysters, calamari and clam strips. Everything was beautifully presented. The grilled snapper fish tacos are loaded with fresh cut cabbage, cheese and salsa and tasted delicious! The fried oysters and calamari were simply gorgeous both texturally and flavor-wise. Another popular salad at Duckies that looked absolutely spectacular is the Nancy's Other salad which comes with bleu cheese, shrimp, avocado on hearts of iceberg lettuce. The clam chowder was definitely good except I had small clumps of unevenly distributed roux in the soup. Otherwise everything else was better than I had expected! read more

Stopped in Cayucos and hung out at the beach boardwalk then checked out all the antique stores and worked up an appetite. This place always has a line so we decided to try it and I'm glad we did. The overcast day was chilly so a bowl of clam chowder was mandatory. We live near Malibu and have clam chowder there quite a bit and this was equally delicious. The soup was light and chunky with few potatoes just like I like it! Tried the calamari sandwich and though I wish it came with a side of something we ordered the garlic fries. Fries were good and a very large portion. The calamari steak was cooked perfectly and was quite tasty. Everything comes off the bun so you make it your own which I like. A lot of people on yelp have complained about the 3% credit card charge but it was advertised everywhere and I didn't mind it since the obligatory tip was not included. The food was yum yum, ambiance and service equally good. Remember to leave a tip on the table. Can't wait to go back! read more

I have never in all of my life had fried calamari as good as this place! The fried oysters might be hard if you don't love oysters. If you do love oysters, I have to tell you: this is the first place I have ever been that doesn't fry them to rubbery nothing. Tender, so juicy, so fresh. Same for the pieces of cod. I wasn't wild about the clam chowder--a tad plain for my taste--but the combination plate alone is worth the visit! Today I got crab cakes (17.00) they were literally so salty I could not eat the second one. Kind of disgusting ....ALSO they charge the customer to use a credit or debit card. However; it only states th ey charge 2.99 for the customer to pay to use their credit card ( which is a 1.25 percent PROFIT to the business!!! The FRSUD is that they also charge credit card fees to debit cards without stating they will. Debit cards run at a MUcH cheaper rate, so they are profiting even more and not stating they will charge a debit card! I will NEVER COMe BACK ... Duckie's offer two types of chowder New England and Manhattan. You can have it in a cup, bowl or bread bowl. You can also jazz it up Nolan Style and add bacon and croutons. I opted for the New England and just grabbed a cup. Let me tell you it was the best chowder I have had in a while. You now the chowder is good when you don't have to add on pepper or Tabasco. If you go to a chowder house, how can you not get the chowder? I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon during President's Day weekend. The wait for the food wasn't long and we were able to find a table right out in front of the restaurant with a tiny glimpse of the ocean across the street. As far as chow goes, I was not disappointed. Splurged and got the white chowder in the sourdough bread bowl. Boy oh boy, am I a fan of bread. It was fresh and melted in my mouth. The shrimp tacos were the best that we got, the slaw on top was good but the burger looked straight from the freezer and didn't taste much better than that. Ordered my fries with garlic, and this is the kicker, asked the very nice lady behind the counter, not once, but TWICE, if she understood the order... smiled and I paid the extra charge. Waited about 10 mins, no issues there, asked With Garlic fries, right? The nice young man said yes. Being my order was already bagged up I trusted! Never do that, alway check your take out order here!!! Sure enough 15 mins back home and SURPRISE, no garlic fries!
