After a very difficult work out, my friends and I trekked to Due West for weekend brunch. We ordered the chicken fingers to share. The dish came out shortly after ordering and it was the BEST fried chicken ever. The flavor, the juicy chicken, the crispy outside, and the black sesame sauce. SO GOOD! It was an A+ experience until we finished the chicken ... My two friends ordered avocado toasts and I ordered a burger (medium rare). I'm not sure if they were growing the avocado in the kitchen or something, but there was about a 30 minute wait between our appetizer and main entree. There were maybe 1-2 tables, so it definitely wasn't because they were busy. Finally, when the dishes came, it met our expectations. The burger was slightly on the salty side and it was cooked medium when I asked for medium rare. At that point, I was just being picky and cranky because I had to wait 30 minutes to eat. Probably will be back, but hope they figure out the wait time between app and main by the time I return! read more

Very low key bar on W 10th. This seems like an ideal spot for happy hour with coworkers, especially during the weekdays when they offer good deals like $1 oysters, $7 glasses of wine, and $10 cocktails. The small bites are also great to share amongst friends and the place gets relatively busy. Deducting a star because our bill was sketchily high, I'm not sure if they actually counter all of our drinks as happy hour or if we just went a little overboard. read more

My evening at Due West was one infused with elaborate beverages. The laidback lounge was known for their elevated food and drink selections, so we clearly needed to try both. My first drink was a mixture of rosé, vodka, lime, and mint. It was amusingly called a "Roséatorade" and served in an old-fashioned glass soda bottle with a sticker of the drink's name and a Gateorade-like logo on the side. That wine-infused cocktail resembled a sugary pink lemonade that tasted a bit too artificial for my liking. For my next two drinks, I utilized their "Due Your Own Old Fashioned" interactive option, which allowed me to select a dark alcohol, a flavored sugar, and infused bitters. Both of my drinks utilized Mezcal as the base, but the added combination of Smoked Sugar and Cherry Bitters far surpassed the sweet Rhubarb Sugar and Chai Bitters combo. For some reason, we decided to stay for a fourth drink, but I knew that I had to switch to something simple and with a lower alcohol content. Being a fan of Millbrook Vineyards in the Hudson Valley, I chose a glass of their 2016 Tocai Friulano, which possessed an enjoyable, lightly sweet and fruity flavor. I should probably reassure you, dear reader, that I did order something to fill my belly besides the drinks. The Whipped Ricotta "snack" was spectacular. The house made cheese was smooth, creamy, and offered a hint of lemon. The generous portion had been topped with a sweet and herbaceous saffron honey and Aleppo pepper for an extra kick. The velvety ricotta was served with slices of crusty, doughy whole wheat sourdough bread. It was truly unique to find a classy bar with higher-end cuisine, but still such a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. That is why Due West was a true gem. read more

The service is a 10 - everyone is very friendly and they handle the craziness of the bar really well. The food is also great - the chicken bites and fried chicken sandwich are must haves. Came here with high expectations after reading about this place online, but walked away sorely disappointed :( Upon entering we were completely ignored by the staff at the door by someone who possibly looked like a manager. When we finally asked him for a table, he seemed surprised (the place was half empty on a Tuesday night at around 11pm). All the male staff seemed completely aloof and stood around doing nothing - it took us forever to grab someone's attention to put in our drink orders. When we finally put in our orders, it took another 20-25 minutes to get our drinks (there was only one bartender for the whole bar/restaurant!). The only reason the place gets two stars instead of just one star from me is the one female waitress - she was friendly and did her best to be attentive whenever she passed by. The Infatuation facetiously writes that "everyone looks like they could be named Allegra or Alfons"...and that gives you a bit of an idea of the crowd that frequents this place. The decor doesn't amount to much, to me evoking a sterile/bland vibe - similar to what you'd see in a suburban strip mall. To be honest, the drinks were actually above average here (the Dead Reckoning was quite good)...but in a city like NYC with a surfeit of superb bars and restaurants, Due West doesn't warrant another visit from me. I won't be coming back, but then again I'm probably not the target customer for this place anyways. read more

We decided to share pretty much one of everything and weren't disappointed in taste or presentation. Pancakes and the Gravlax board were especially on point, but everything tasted incredible. Literally just stumbled upon this place and instantly intrigued by the open windows and blue velvet seating. Felt kind of like a sports bar as well. We were seated almost immediately and there was a sign for brunch. We didn't want to drink so we just settled for an entree. We ordered the chicken sandwich. Mainly because everything else was unappealing and not worth the money. I'm not sure how I felt about the chicken sandwich being $17 with no side, but I didn't think it was worth it. I kept thinking, this needs fries. The sandwich was very tasty. I enjoyed it very much. I don't think I will come back because the place wasn't memorable nor did the ambiance keep us. We wanted to just eat and leave. It is a nice place to try while you are in the area and when everything else is fully booked, but I'd say they need to change up their menu and add a little love to each meal. read more

Let me tell you, Due West remains one of my absolute favorite restaurant/bars in NYC! It never disappoints! It's located in the old Diablo Royale space if anyone remembers that Mexican restaurant. If so, it's tiny, but the layout is conducive to both having some food at a table or grabbing a drink or two with friends. We sat at the window and had waitress service, thankfully cause the bar is tiny and was like 5 people deep around 6:30 on a Thursday. The best part about this place is the "make your own old fashions", which 3 out of the 4 of us got! Such a fun concept. Waitress was nice friendly and quick. Will def go back. read more
