This is a hole in the wall Irish bar with probably the best cheeseburgers on Staten Island! Very good value/ price and the meat in the burgers is thick and very tasty. They are served on a toasted English muffin and with melted on cheddar cheese. Above average tasting fries too. The seating can get a bit cramped if they are busy - the tables are fairly close together and the hallway is kinda narrow. Nice authentic/ nostalgic bar atmosphere though. read more

I have always loved Duffy's. We have had a few less than the usual perfect experiences there over the past year. Consistency is always something that we appreciated when dining at Duffy's. We have definitely noticed the food quality has become more inconsistent. Please please please bring back the classic Caesar salad, it's the best and for whatever reason the dressing was changed. The quality is not as good and it was very disappointing. The Salmon entree has also had some ups and downs. We will definitely be back but might need to take a break for a little while. read more

Ehh. Not so sure how I feel about this place. Came on a Saturday afternoon with my partner. Not too crowded and sat at table across the bar. Only one waitress so everything took a looonggggg time, which is a result of having only one waitress. We ordered the Cajun Steak Tips (Medium Rare), it came out about 30 mins later and it came out well done. They were pretty packed with flavor. Just wish is came out Medium. Our food came out maybe 15 mins later. I ordered what Duffy's was known for..burger and chips. My burger was well done when I had ordered it Medium well. It smelled like dead overcooked meat. Not a big fan of it. I like the English muffin bun and the melted cheese, but the meat was not good. It must of just been the cook who wasn't having a good day. Our waitress did her best as again she was the only one working. Even the check took about another 10 mins. What can I say? This is my neighborhood bar and I can't love it anymore. Literally the best burger you will ever have. Don't bother going to some fancy place to spend $15 on a burger when you can come here and get the most delicious, tasty, greasy in a good way burger. The blue cheese burger is my fave. The drinks are always super cheap and the vibe totally laid back. The bartenders are always attentive but not fake, which I really love. It's the only place left I think in this city where you can go sit and have a cold beer, and talk to the bartender like a real human. It helps that it's 5 blocks from my house but I think I would travel miles for a cold beer and a blue cheese burger. Now I'm hungry. Maybe I'll go to Duffy's! :) read more

This place has never failed me! They used English Muffin, and it blends with the juicy burger so well... I usually order cheeseburger with cheddar on it along with half regular fries and half onion rings. Onion rings is something you got to taste theirs... whenever I am in the mood, I added raw onion on the top of it along with a cold draft beer. It always go well. I would also recommend buffalo wings, wedge baked potatoes and beers! People who works there are always friendly... Duffy's is what you should be eating for burger. Try to avoid their grilled chicken sandwich, a bit too dry, too thin and is not their speciality. Duffy cannot be bothered with your order unless you are there and in person drinking ! Everyone knows that liquor is what drives revenue at most restaurants ! Tonight I called to place an order for pick up (4 times ) and each time I was put on hold by the same rude male person ... my husband finally took pity on me and went there to order in person . This is not the first time we have been neglected by this Regulars Only Irish Pub. We called on New Year's Eve for a pick up meal and we were told they were closed !!! By all the the loud talking and laughing ,it was obvious they were having a private party for their regulars !! At that time it was obviously against the laws of the city and state . But no worries friends , they are still up and serving their favorite ( ones who drink the most ) customers . No offense to the previous poster but Duffy's is way more than a place to grab a beer when you have nothing to do for five minutes. It happens to be, in my opinion and many others, the best place on Staten Island to grab a cheeseburger. Yeah it's a tavern, so the ambiance isn't anything special. But it isn't just another Irish Bar on Forest Avenue. I'll admit I only get the cheeseburgers but it's all I ever needed from there. It comes served on an english muffin, with criss cross fries. I suggest the fried onions for added flavor. The wait staff is small, usually consisting of 2 people. One to host and record your order and another to bus. The other day we just wanted a burger and decided to head to Duffys. Sat @ the bar and had a cold Blue Moon on tap which was great. Started off w the Buffalo Wings which were good. We ordered the Mulligan burger & the blue cheese burger and an order of sweet potato fries and some onion rings-- all had such great promise. However that was never delivered upon. The sweet potatos came out Burnt; yes they replaced them but should never been served in the fist place. Both burgers were made with quality ingredients but were overcooked, so much so that we didn't finish them, and didn't make a fuss. The bill came to $40 I put a Fifty in the receipt holder and was never brought any change. While it's only the matter of a few dollars over the eight I would have left, It's my money and should be my decision, 25% tip on a lousy meal is too much. read more

Honestly, I almost hate writing a review of such a well hidden gem in Staten Island. There is no question that this is the best burger on the island. English muffin bread, thick, juicy, and made exactly as ordered (medium rare MOOOO). Things you should know before coming here: 1. Tavern's are bars, not restaurants, not trendy lounges, you come here to eat, drink, or both. This also could be described as a dive bar so unless your girl is "cool as shit" or uses phrases that like, avoid taking her here on any special occasion. 2. Walk in, pass the bar, look at the score of whatever sporting event is on, and sit anywhere you like. You don't have to go to a host or anything like that and you will look like a rookie if you do, so seat yourself. 3. You are not here to use your best pickup lines at the bar. The type of people here are: foodies, neighborhood nice guy drunks, the quiet loner rebel type sitting at the bar, the couple that's been dating for years and marriage is no where in sight, and the occasional pop & son bonding over big burgers with beer. 4. Besides the burger, the entire menu is great. Sweet potato fries, grilled chicken sandwich, & different specials frequently. The best appetizer would probably be the nachos - see my picture! 5. So as far this being a great burger, it was just ok. As far as it being the best burger on Staten Island, I think it very well may be, but I don't think that's such an outrageous claim to begin with. This burger is a big burger. Mayhaps a third pound of pure, unseasoned beef. Here in California, we are used to seasoned patties, so in comparison, it's hard for any East Coast burger to stand up to. The ketchup really helped. I did like that it came rare and bloody, that it came on an English muffin, and that it came loaded with cheese and then they dump the fries all over the plate while the cheese is still melted and then the fries stick to the cheese. All-in-all, I enjoyed the burger. The fries are awesome; get the criss-cut fries or the sweet potato. Really good wings and fried ravioli. Service could have been better. read more

Some famous chef wrote in the New Yorker that he loves Duffy's Tavern. Some of my other friends OMGd at me when I told them I have never eaten here. I've lived down the block from Duffy's for almost 10 years and have never tried it! Well until over the weekend. I walked inside on a random Wednesday evening with my girlfriend and we made it right before their grilled closed at 10:40 PM. The atmosphere was surprising. I thought it would be a nasty and grimey bar but it turns out to be a very cozy and clean place. Sat down and looked at the drink menu and saw Rolling Rock for $2.50. I was shocked, and then I received the drink and realized it was only a 7 oz. bottle, which was still awesome for the price. I ordered the standard cheeseburger with a side of sweet potato fries, which came out to around $8 after paying extra for the fries. Standard burger comes with chips. I'd have to say, this burger was really tasty, fat, and juicy and its use of english muffin was delectable. However, I wouldn't claim this to be the most incredible burger I've had on Staten Island. They say it is on the front but I can't say it was the most amazing. I think if the cheese were something other than or in addition to American Yellow and if the burger were bigger, I'd be happy to agree with that statement (My burger definitely did not look that picture, but I believe if I had ordered that specific one, I would've gotten that) But I would have to say the sweet potato fries I had were probably the best I've had on the island. Came in here for a quick bite on a busy Sunday, There specials menu gave a special feel.. all handwritten & occasionally changed to meet the new special of another day. I ordered there Cowboy Beef Burger and it was superb! There sweet potato fries were on point also! Didn't get much of their drinks to experience yet. I wasn't that thrilled with the service, we got took the bill right away & paid it also right away (because we were in a hurry) but didn't see the waiter after. Burger arrived looking like a hockey puck - cheese cold and congealed mess. Wasn't the worst I've ever eaten - what prevents another star is the service. Our server was without a doubt the most miserable bi*** I've ever had the displeasure of meeting. It was like she was doing ME a favor. Ugh. There are two things you need to know about this place- 1. If you don't try a Duffy Burger (with cheese) then you're out of your mind. 2. You have to get the waffle fries with the Duffy Burger. It's just so delicious. The best burger I've had in my whole life. I live in the neighborhood and every time my family gets together and can't figure out what to eat we just go up to Duffy's. It's a homely bar that's good for families to get together and hang out and catch up. If you don't feel like having the burger (which I don't know why you wouldn't) the Chili is also amazing. For a pub you wouldn't think of that as the first option, but it's an excellent choice. The bar usually has the regulars sitting there, so it's not a place for anyone in their younger ages to go and have a good night at, but if you want to just relax and throw back a cold one, then this is indeed you're location. read more

I'm usually not one for negative views but need to put things into a little bit better perspective. They claim to have the BEST burgers on the island. That alone is a boastful statement - they are mediocre at best. I've had much better especially at Burger Shop. The English muffin not a good idea, too small for the burger, gets soggy and falls apart making it frustrated to eat. Waffle fries were like bricks. Just needed to add some truthful reality to all these positive reviews as with most places, they never know when a food critic will be served. It also has an old man bar feel, not very good ambience, they need to give the place a serious makeover. I gave this place a few shots.
