I really wanted to like this place but just couldn't. We were driving down to Florida from New England and thought this would be a good lunch stop to hold us over until we got to our destination. Plus we were craving some bbq. It is about 10 min from the interstate but we figured worth it for some true southern bbq. A buffet costs $11 for an adult and does include tea/ lemonade. However the food was quite disappointing. The only meat was pulled pork with sauce on the side and overfried chicken. Where's the pork marinated in bbq sauce, ribs, brisket etc of a true bbq pit? There was some vegetable options: salad bar, fried okra, corn, Mac n cheese, potato salad, coleslaw, green beans but it was all pretty average tasting. I literally could not chew the hush puppies because of how overcooked they were. The banana pudding was the best part of the meal (clearly homemade and fresh with lots of whip cream). Oh and the dishware consists of styrofoam plates and plastic silverware- which gives the whole place a cheap atmosphere despite the price you pay to eat there. You'll also need 2-3 plates for your meal because of how flimsy they are so be prepared to do a lot of trips back and forth from your table. Since won't leave hungry (due to a buffet), I gave it 2 stars however at the end of the meal I was still craving actual bbq food so can't give it any higher than that. Like others have said it should be considered a southern buffet NOT a BBQ joint. With all the bbq options along i95 I would definitely try something different next time. read more

This is not a BBQ place it's a southern buffet with a vast choice of fried foods. There was only one small container of pulled pork which was so so. I would not recommend the buffet to anyone unless you want to clog your arteries. read more

As a vegetarian this may seem a strange choice but my carnivorous sister wanted some authentic BBQ. This place is awesome. $10 for all you can eat - including drinks and dessert. Mac and cheese, many veggie sides, hush puppies to die for and make sure you leave room for peach cobbler. read more

We stopped of 95 on our way through SC. This place was much better than expected. Nothing fancy, plastic plates and cups but the buffet was awesome. Just about everything you could want for southern food including some really good banana pudding and sweet tea. We were in and out in 30 minutes on a Friday night and back on the road. read more

Based on my good friend Daryl's recommendations, a group of 14 of us went to eat here when traveling through town. We called 30 minutes earlier and they accommodate us by reserving us a table. They were very courteous and friendly. Everything on the buffet from protein to veggies were delicious specially the fried chicken and hush poppies. Ignore the beat up building and get ready to eat home cooking on paper plates, plastic silver wear and paper towel napkins for the low price of $11.00 per adult and $6.50 per child. Through the years from the time I was a little boy, I have been to this restaurant. It has changed locations time to time, but that has never stopped me!! They are delicious! Found this place quite by accident on the way to Florida last year and it has become my all-time favorite place to eat. We went out of our way to come back on the way home and I can't wait to hit it again in Feb. when we go back to Fl. Yup it's pretty much a hole in the wall, but if you love southern cooking like Grandma made- this is the place to get it. You won't find fancy stuff sautéed in olive oil, just mammy made goodness. If you are a traveler, chances are you be the only ones in there. They make no effort to be fancy, but there isn't one thing I would change. As I was reading other reviews that mentioned food choices, I didn't see the homemade chips...YUM! Unlike a lot of buffets, trays were filled before they were empty and EVERYTHING was hot and delicious. My experience with Dukes was not a pleasant one. We will not be returning for a second chance. 1. The place is definitely due for an update in appearance. 2. We were there on a Saturday night around 6:30 and the tables were dirty, it's a buffet so you get in line and then get a table, styrofoam plates and plastic utensils and you throw away your plate when done. Styrofoam cups for tea and the ice is sitting in the cup at the end of the line. 3. Price $10 includes tea or lemonade, all made with sugar, I prefer unsweet. I didn't feel comfortable asking anyone if they had unsweet because we all felt like we were a burden instead of paying customers. 4. The only friendly staff member was the woman taking your money. No one else smiled EVER! This is the South and we are known for our hospitality! When paying my husband included the tip as well, for a buffet and then you clean up the table yourself! 5. Bbq meat was so dry I couldn't eat it, okra was decent. Yams were from a can, greens appeared fresh. There were 4 in our party and NO-ONE returned for seconds. This place is the epitome of southern charm. Everyone is so friendly I almost feel out of place the first few minutes. By the end of the meal I am wondering how much property costs and how I can make a living. For those of you that are looking for a big brand buffet this is not the place for you. They have a very limited menu but it is insanely good. Best fried chicken I've ever had, best hush puppies I have ever had. Pork roast was great. I'm not big on southern sides so I can't tell you about them. Mac and cheese is ok. Great sweet tea and lemonade. Love this place. Now for the bad. Why is it closed on Monday - wed. ??? Stopped here on a road trip for work. Close to i95, so it's a convenient location. Simple setup, no frills, self serve buffet. We were hoping for lots of BBQ, and found fried chicken and a tub of dry "BBQ meat". I found it really odd that the animal it came from wasn't mentioned. Perhaps BBQ pork? I'm not really sure. Anyhow, the southern sides did remind me of my grandma's cooking, so that was a plus. Good hush puppies, cabbage, and stewed tomatoes. Sub par yams from a can but the greens were fresh. The mac and cheese was a huge disappointment to my husband, as he describes it as "cheeseless, slippery noodles". There were 3 deserts available: peach cobbler, banana pudding, and chocolate cake. Nothing noteworthy there. Drinks are included in the $10 price (sweet tea & lemonade), so value wise, not bad. Overall just ok for us. read more

Specials Friday and Saturday night Sunday dinner, something different every Sunday best fried chicken on the east coast . If you like dry rice, Mac& cheese minus the cheese and brittle pork, throw your $10 away here. that "hash" shud be called trash cuz it's just ground up, leftover meat and veg....disgusting. We were driving from FL to NY and found this restaurant on Yelp via an app called "Road Ahead" (which I highly recommend for road trips). It seemed like a "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" kinda place, so we thought we'd check it out for the fun of it. What a great find. The food was delicious, prepared in small batches, and refilled frequently. I can eat only so much fried food without needing a bottle of Tums (although I had more than my usual share of fried chicken, hush puppies and even tried fried okra-- all delicious). But there were a few veggie offerings to keep me happy too. It's no frills, no service, no decor, but for less than $10 on a quality AYCE buffet, I'm not complaining. We'll definitely be back when we drive thru SC next time. read more

I eat at Dukes about once a week.. I think the food and staff are terrific. I have checked their health inspection record, as I do all places that I dine at, and they have always rated very well. ( 98, 99 and 100 out of a top score of 100) Just remember this is a no frills, no table service type of place but you are paying less than 9 bucks for all you can eat, drink and desert INCLUDED!!!! i have found that on my first and only visit to dukes bbq of ridgeland sc to be one very disappointed and unimpressed customer as well my intire family .went to resturant on sat 11-12-11 at 330 on our way to savanna ga 8 people in our group the food was not hot the pulled pork had bone and grissle in it and no one in our group was satisfied the fried chicken was old and dry and very unsatisfing my name is rose pettit of charleston sc 29414 . the employees working there seemed to be more interested in smoking cigarettes and sitting down just to be able to get a styrofoam cup of ice had to go and find the person working cash register sitting behind glass with another employee .and with i say i cant bring myself to try the dukes bbq on folly rd in charleston even though parts of my family praise the resturant as extremly different and the food very good there . read more
