    RIBBBBBBBs to perfection
    Jeanie A.

this place was excellent !! nothing fancy , just a man and his smoker!!! wow wow ! we only tried themmm 1/2 a rack of ribs , i shouldn't have listened to my husband and bought the whole rack. they were delicious and made perfectly. (juicy and tender), the sides were good (especially them baked beans) the sauces were a great add on, but not needed , because the ribs were that good. the price was right. we are not -and for those of you that like critique harshly , i'm a cook, and love lots of flavor and authenticity. so if you want ribs , this is it!!!

Just a guy with a smoker who sets up on the weekends. His BBQ is top notch and the potato salad is delightful.

Everything was delicious! The wings are smoked, which gives them such a good flavor, and both sauces were amazing. The cornbread was soft, moist, and full of flavor. So good! My husband had the Texas Philly with grilled chicken and mac & cheese. The chicken was tender and juicy, and that mac & cheese had some kind of Parmesan crust on top that made it even better. I had the BBQ with coleslaw and dirty rice. The BBQ and dirty rice were delicious and had a lot of flavor. The coleslaw was just okay for me, though. I probably wouldn't order it again. And I HAVE to talk about the Margarita Flight! It was AMAZING! The drinks were bigger than the average margarita flight, and every flavor tasted soooo good. Definitely worth ordering! We sat outside, and they had music playing and fans to keep the area comfortable. It was such a nice atmosphere, and the food and drinks made it even better. Overall, great food, amazing drinks, a nice atmosphere, and a really enjoyable experience! We would definitely come back!

It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

What a fantastic location... and what an unbelievable disappointment…read more We were excited to try the new Slow County BBQ location in Coligny Plaza, but it ended up being one of the worst dining experiences we've had on Hilton Head. The service was well below average. The employees looked like they didn't want to be there, and there wasn't a welcoming atmosphere from the moment we walked in. To make matters worse, you order at the counter, bus your own table, and are still prompted to leave a tip before you've received any food or service. The food was even worse. Our kids wouldn't even touch the mac and cheese after one bite. It tasted like it was made almost entirely with processed cheese and was a complete miss. Then came the "Garbage Can Nachos." The name couldn't be more fitting. They probably should have stayed in the garbage can. It was essentially a bucket full of chips with a tiny amount of cold pulled pork and processed cheese on top. I'd say it was about 90% chips and 10% toppings. To make it even more ridiculous, the food runner slammed the bucket onto the plate multiple times to crush the chips so the toppings wouldn't fall off. Watching someone intentionally pulverize your food before serving it was almost comical. For a BBQ restaurant, the menu was incredibly underwhelming. The quality simply wasn't there, and neither was the beer selection, with only four beers on tap. Everything about the experience felt like it was designed to cater to one-time tourists rather than earn repeat customers. Coligny Plaza deserves restaurants that people are excited to come back to. Unfortunately, this wasn't one of them. Between the poor service, disappointing food, limited beer selection, and awkward counter-service model with a tip prompt, we left wishing we had chosen literally anywhere else. We won't be back.

Hilton Head Island has seen some changes in food offerings in the last decade, but fresh and new American fusion isn't common. Enter Chow Daddy's. With two locations (the other in Bluffton) we hit this one on Hilton Head. It's a risky place to put a restaurant, buried in the back plaza of a nondescript but high-end shopping center deeeep in the wooded neighborhoods of the island's Southern tip. If you're staying elsewhere on the island, you'll find you have to pay a small fee to access Sea Pines but many people do to get to the Salty Dog Cafe as well. While it may not get a lot of visibility, it is definitely worth seeking out for the very good Latin American cuisine being offered. Out party of five arrived on an August Friday evening after making reservations and were impressed with the cleanliness and upscale minimalist vibe. Dark booths and Edison-style lighting are offset by the daylight let in by picture windows. There is outside seating in the patio (very pleasant in the shade) and a small bar open off the host area. Inside seating is large enough for bigger parties of 6-8. Definitely not a post-beach day place, but perfect for date night, or more dressy family dinner out. Service was quick and talkative; we enjoy chatting beyond food with out severs which makes the experience even better. Apps and mains were delivered quickly with good presentation. We started with the fine fresh corn dip - extra tortillas were helpful to get the last bits. Mains included a fresh and well pattied cheesburger, mix-n-match tacos and two specialty bowls - cajun shrimp with spicy fine fat prawns and an Ahi-tuna poke style bowl. The rice in both was excellent and the portions were perfect. I'll try to un-hide this hidden star with this review and encourage you to seek it out if you live on "HHi" or make your next visit. Rare 5 star from us.

I came here with a bunch of friends from my undergraduate research lab while we were in Hilton Head presenting at a conference. We had rented a condo to all stay together and this place was in walking distance, so we headed over. I don't remember what all everyone else got to eat, or much about the service, but I do remember it was a total vibe. Beachy decorations that were fun but still classy and not too kitschy, warm lighting, good music. I ordered an item probably not even on their menu anymore: pulled barbeque chicken on a hunk of spicy cornbread with a side salad. I checked online and it's nowhere to be found, but it slapped at the time, and from pictures it seems like you can still maybe order their spicy cornbread at least, which was the best part! It had a great cakey texture and some legit heat. The chicken was succulent and tender and the smokiness paired well with the salad. It seems Chow Daddy's enjoyed a decade of success after my visit so long ago. I hope the temporary closure listed on the Yelp page doesn't turn into a permanent one. It was a pleasant surprise to be reminded of this visit and my time with friends.

Waited forever for waiter to come by and when he did he was not friendly and complaining about how long his day was (his name was Tweedy?). He got drink order wrong and was mostly absent during the entire meal. We asked the hostess if we could move booths to a larger booth due to a few in our party being larger people. There were two larger booths open (one was seated with four people). She told us that the larger booths were only for tables of 6 or more. I showed her that there were four people at one and she said that they were an early seating vit we couldn't move. The thing is this... the four top was seated AFTER we were seated. Other two tables sat empty until the last few minutes of our dinner. The food wasn't anything special either. One dish was bland. Another not cooked well. Crabcakes were delicious but 1/4 isn't all that good when you're paying that much. Anyways, we used to LOVE this play. Always had good service, good food and took care of customers. Something has changed in the last year. Nectar used to a "must eat" on our trips. Not any more.
