Traveling down I-95 on Sunday afternoon and wanted a good lunch. Found this on Yelp and thought we'd try it. Parking lot was full. Walked in and to our surprise found a Sunday Southern Buffet with all the trimmings. Fried chicken done to perfection,baked ham, and barbecue, all done to perfection. Homemade hush puppies and potato chips besides everything you would want . Then dessert included warm peach cobbler, banana pudding and pineapple cake. We stopped here on a road trip as were expecting great BBQ. They only had pulled pork and chicken before 5pm. My husband though the pulled pork and chicken were both very good but he does not have much experience with BBQ. I didn't try the chicken because I don't generally like chicken but I love pork and this pulled pork left something to be desired. It was at best average and maybe below average. The sides were OK at best. Mac and cheese was tasteless. Fried okra was decent and we got the rice which was dry. The price to portion ratio is great and the service is also very nice (friendly workers) but the food was at best OK. read more

The Carolina's are the best! We were heading home to eastern NC from Florida decided we were hungry and stopped in for a quick bite. We walked in to maybe get a bbq sandwich and were very pleased to find a delicious home cooked buffet- made us feel like mamas cooking!! BBQ was Carolina style but you add your own homemade sauce...Mac n Cheese, fried okra, corn nuggets, fried chicken, perfectly round hush puppies. Do Not be scared away by the outside or the styrofoam plates! Luckily we felt adventurous enough to try a place off the beaten path during our road trip home from Florida. Everything was delicious! It's faster than the "fast food" restaurants right off of 95 and actually provides some awesome vegetable options. Who knew rutabaga was so good!?!? Don't worry about searching for a menu online...those super nice women at the drive-thru window will coach you thru ordering! We found Duke's BBQ quite by accident on a recent trip to Florida. We stopped for a bite to eat and didn't want the fast food chain food. Duke is about the farthest thing from chain store fast food. Cafeteria/buffet style southern food. The pulled pork was nicely smoked and not at all greasy. The fried chicken was just like grandmas (I'm pretty sure someones grandma is cooking it in the kitchen). They do have a drive thru, or should I say drive up because you place your order at the window and wait for them to prepare your plate(no intercom system here). But do NOT go for the drive thru...go in and experience this gem. Be sure to save room for desert...The banana/nilla wafer dessert was unreal. If you like to "eat where the locals eat"...This is your kind of place. read more

Mostly a locals place so any tourists who may accidentally stumble on this town might be scared off. Remember that you're there for the food for a great price-not for the ambience, lol. No music, not much talking, each table has a roll of paper towels and a jug of sweet tea, no waitresses, and I believe no soda. Truly a local southern hole in the wall. Kind of cafeteria style. The best food is the pork, fried chicken, hush puppies, ambrosia, and hash (the hash looks weird but tastes awesome!). Some things are just ok but most of the stuff is good. As far as cons-food not always at the proper temperature and the dessert isn't that good. But this place is definitely worth checking out and will be a unique experience for Northerners (I'm from Jersey). read more

Perfect quick stop for a road trip. We stopped here on our way from FL to NC. My husband was looking for genuine southern cooking, and this was just like his grandma's. It's a buffet which makes it super quick and easy and it's stocked with all your southern favorites. While only open a few days per week (end of week and weekend) it is well worth. Food is served buffet style. Tons of options. The food is fresh and tasty. I think its gone down hill! The buffet looked like the movie Vegas vacation where Eddie takes Clark to a cheap hotel buffet. I should snapped a picture to post. It was then that my wife gave me the look as I was hanging her the styrofoam plate and plastic utensils that I knew I was in trouble. More on that later. Most food in the second row was not labeled. The only food recognizable in the second row was fried okra. Which was overcooked . We will get to that later. I opted for the pulled pork and green beans which was labeled and recongizeable! Good thing it was! Grabbed some okra too. That tasted charred. Next to the "salad bar". Looked like coke slaw and potato salad was there along with"sauces"that we're labeled hot and mild. Couldn't recognize the other two items. I thought they were BBQ sauces for the pulled pork and loaded up hot on the side. Turns out the sauces were hot and mild mustard of which I used for hush puppies. Pulled pork was ok with some bar b que sauce. Since this is all you can eat just go for the fried chicken and cole slaw. Kfc has better chicken but if you if a hurry this is the place as this is the most self service restaurant i have ever been to. The only thing they do is put ice in your cup. All tables were sticky and dirty and not a place for kids since they only serve tea and water. This stop will cost me a more expensive dinner as my wife was not happy with my insistence to visit this place on our way through. Stand by for check to follow for that visit. read more

Unexpected yumminess right off 95. They have a buffet but we since we were on the road we grabbed our food to go. I think it is something like $8 for your choice of meat and three sides. The fried chicken was awesome and the spicy bbq didn't have too much heat but was well seasoned. Mac and cheese is worth splurging on - hush puppies with every purchase. I had so wanted to try this restaurant but because they are only open a few days out of the week I always seemed to miss them. So I was excited to catch them open Friday evening. It was a couple minutes after 8:00 when we walked in and there were plenty of people. We weren't sure if we were to seat ourselves or wait, but when we saw no one we sat ourselves. An employee came over to the door behind us and locked it. We jokingly said, wow we made it just in time and he said, "No, you didn't - we're closed", and walked away.
