    Medium rare.

It's been a year since we've dined at Dukes and their wagyu burger was calling out to us again. Ten ounces is a big burger and makes us think twice about whether to order an appetizer. But the Sausage and Provolone Stuffed Peppadews ($15) sounded truly interesting. They turned out to be very tasty too. Eight orbs of breaded and deep fried, stuffed but not spicy, red peppers were flavorful, especially with the side of lemon caper aioli. My wife started with the Seasonal Chopped Salad ($17) filled with kale, romaine, gold beets, apples, bacon, blue cheese crumble, pepitas, and maple cider vinaigrette. It was delicious and large. I'm surprised she finished it. Partly to compensate, she ordered her Dukes Chophouse Burger ($24) without the bun, however, she wasn't deterred from adding optional mushrooms ($3) and cheddar cheese ($1.50). She hardly touched her accompanying fries, saying that they were nothing special. But I thought the fries were done with perfection - truly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. For my Dukes Burger I added blue cheese ($1.50) and the flavor really came through. We both had ordered our burgers medium-rare. Hers arrived considerably rarer than mine. But both had a crispiness overall on the outside while not being overly compacted inside. A non-iceberg lettuce, tomato, sliced red onion, and horseradish pickles added additional texture and flavor to each bite. It's simply an excellent burger. BTW, my fries were even still warm after I finished my burger. Service by Steve was friendly and welcoming. Guinness ($9.26) is still the only dark beer available on draft. They cater to the less flavor desiring American beer drinkers, but they did have a Druther's IPA on tap. My wife had a glass of a red wine blend, Big Bet ($15), that was passable.

Food was excellent and so was the service. Our waitress Samantha was awesome. Started with cocktails-dry dirty grey goose martini and a bullit bourbon Manhattan-both very nice. Seared tuna app then split a chopped salad. Strip steak with a side of lobster risotto. Was almost like having surf and turf. Large piece of lobster and steak cooked perfectly. Waygu burger was delicious-get a side of the garlic mayo. Had the blackout cake for birthday dessert-very light but rich at the same time.

Kind of disappointing. Five stars for the lobster mac & cheese though. It was piping hot and it was delicious. Everyone else ordered the fillet. It was cold. They also got twice baked potatoes, which really weren't twice baked and they were also cold. No onion or cheese, just potato that looked like twice baked. After reading reviews on how many people commented on cold food, Dukes should know people do not like cold steak if they're paying over $50 for it. it should come sizzling on a plate but it comes on a cold plate and the meat was cold. They said it still tasted good but they were disappointed. The roasted garlic with a sprig of rosemary, was also cold! The rolls and butter were good! Service was ok. If he came back to check on us we would have told him the food was cold, but he didn't.

One star because I was the first one ordering, lobster bisque, a glass of Merlot and the roast duck. I didn't realize I was in trouble until the French onion soup showed up instead of my lobster bisque. The other 4 people ordered French onion soup. Everything went downhill from there. I did not want to upset the dinner party by complaining about the soup. An hour later after everybody finished their dinners , my duck finally showed up. I told the waitress to bring it back to the kitchen give it to the chef and give me a manager. She said the manager had just left the floor but would return shortly.Manager showed up and told me should will take the duck off the bill. That's great I said because I had no intention of paying. I just wanted her to know how wrong the situation was. The waitress acted like a hot shot because she took our orders without writing anything down. That's great if you don't make a mistake. The manager asked what she could get me and I asked for a cappuccino. She had the waitress bring me one right away. It was very good. They did not charge me for the cappuccino. I will never ever return to this establishment. I included a picture of the French Onion Soup. I felt the manager could have done something to try to appease me. Sal E. New Rochelle

Look at that filet mignon. LOOK AT IT. It is simply perfect.

Unsure what these negative reviews are about. I ordered the petit filet rare and it was honestly cooked to perfection. Purple on the inside and seared so expertly that no juices escaped. And the flavor! Oh man. We also got salads and a dozen oysters--which were about $2.25 each. That's incredibly reasonable! My martini was delicious and the wine was stellar. I ordered the cheesecake for dessert and they comped it. We didn't even go there to gamble; we just went for dinner. A fantastic meal start to finish. I was very wary but this was better than most NYC steakhouses and on par with Montreal steaks. Our waiter Steven was a delight: friendly and attentive, with a dollop of sarcasm. Truly a wonderful existence.

Nice atmosphere ( except see below ) and great dinner! Perfectly prepared braised Beef short ribs , Whipped Potatoes, Baby Carrots & Red Wine Demi , Iceberg wedge salad, warm bread and Chocolate Blackout Cake . I was so excited to eat it of course I forgot to take a picture! Great wait staff. This is inside the casino which is the one downside . Be prepared to lose/ win some cash and experience some interesting characters. A fight broke out in the restaurant between some patrons that had been partying elsewhere in the casino. It was taken care of quickly by security. That was a first.

Went on a Friday night for dinner. The place was want packed but there were people eating at tables and the bar. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. My steak was delicious, I ordered the filet mignon and it had great flavor. It tasted very buttery and was cooked to my liking. The sides are standard nothing extra ordinary but overall it was a great night celebrating a birthday. They even gave us a slice of chocolate cake with a candle to celebrate our friend. The ambiance is relaxing even though the casino is right outside the restaurant. It is a pricey place but that's to be expected for a steak house.

I am overdue in writing this review. The pandemic closed down the casino and during that time the previous head chef at Dukes hit the road. As far as I am concerned the new chef and his staff are killing it. The menu is small. There is one special for each night of the week. They kept some of the favorites but added some new entrees too. Both my wife and I have been very impressed. So impressed that I would say that the capital region should be adding it to their rotation whether they are a casino goer or not. They are doing some great work here! One night I will check to see if they are doing raw bar seafood properly. This five star update is for every meal I have had under the new chef. One final comment. Order the mashed potatoes!!!! Joel Robuchon would give the chef a high five :)

    Salmon, spinach, mashed potatoes

Dukes Chophouse was good from the service to the food. The young ladies that we spoke to before we got seated was nice and jolly, their positive attitude was so welcoming, I wish I got their names to put it here (but they were pretty and black and they work right at the front to seat people). On to the food --- I had pan seared Salmon and it was cooked very well, the right crunch, and the right texture you would want in your salmon, now the only thing was it wasn't that seasoned, neither was my mashed potatoes and spinach (so I added a little salt and pepper) after that it was good to eat. My mom had the short beef ribs, carrots, and mashed potatoes and she loved her food so no problems for her. Now the one thing I have to say that was not good at all was the drinks I had a lemon drop and my mom had a Long Island and they were not strong at all, it tasted like they put a pinch of alcohol in it (barely that) and I am someone who doesn't really drink and if I do the liquor usually is strong for me, so when I tasted theirs I was disappointed and that's the only reason I'm giving the rating a 4 because they tired us with them weak drinks.

I ate here after racking up lots of rewards credits from gambling. Since I was alone, I decided to eat at the bar. The bartenders were really friendly and I actually enjoyed eating there. I was offered bread and butter which I accepted but it was actually the only part of the meal I didn't like. The bread was French bread and butter was butter with white and black sesame seeds on it. The bread was little hard and the butter looked better than it tasted. The appetizer I got was the the Burrata with heirloom tomatoes and basil which was delicious. I ordered the 22oz Ribeye and it was pretty delicious as well. The steak came with a roasted whole garlic and a fresh sprig of rosemary. When spread on the steak it made for a delicious topper for the steak. The steak was perfectly cooked medium rare and came with the bone. I wanted to grab the bone and rip the meat off with my teeth but I decided that was little caveman style so I did my best to clean the bone with the knife without biting it. . Overall it was a delicious meal and the bar experience was great. Will definitely spend the rest of my reward credit on another meal here.

The salad wasn't green. Not a good sign.

The bar tender, Noah, was impressive and friendly in that he knew his liquor stock very well, and could explain the flavor intricacies of the various types of bourbon, vodka, and gins. They also offer some non,-alcoholic beverages for the "designated driver" of the group too. We watched Noah make everything from regular and "dirty martinis" with fresh ingredients, as well as one drink where he used a butane lighter and some tiny cedar chips in a straining tool above the drink to give it a fresh, authentic smoky look and flavor. Noah knows his stuff!!!!! The patrons were friendly, diverse, and easy to socialize with if you chose to do so. The establishment is pet friendly for "socialized pets" with a water bowl outside the establishment and some free Milkbone treats inside. Keep in mind that this establishment is a "tasting room" with the majority of products from the New Scotland Distillery, but there are other options. Just don't expect to get a Bud Light Draft or food here. The only downside is that parking in the Lark Steet and State Street location is difficult to obtain without some effort, but we managed to park our vehicles 2 blocks away. This is not a direct criticism of the establishment because the experience is well worth this minor potential inconvenience. We would definitely go back there again, especially for the specialty drinks or the flights and half flights of their bourbon and vodka products. But one is head and shoulders above the other... literally! And that would be the Tavern because it is on the floor above the Pizzeria, and of course, the Rooftop is still one more level up. If you're looking for pizza slices or maybe a pizza to-go, the pizzeria on the ground floor is your place. If you want a full bar, a menu including a variety of pub foods, table service, and maybe a DJ spinning sounds, head on up the narrow staircase to the 2nd floor. The open sky can be found above a dozen tables still one further level up on the roof of the building. Our party of five was happy to score one of those dozen tables on the roof. Not just because it was a beautiful warm evening, but because the music in the tavern below was so loud that we would not have been able to carry on a conversation. Our group was here to sample a planned menu that has carried us from tavern to tavern throughout the Capital Region for over two years - wings, mozzarella sticks with Melba sauce, pizza, and wash it all down with good beer. And that was where we met our first hurdle. Beer is not sold by the pitcher at Nico's. Our server asked if we were going have a bucket. Apparently, that was a special that evening. We inquired what was available on draft and as our server went through the underwhelming list of fifteen, we decided upon pints of Ithaca Flower Power IPA, primarily because it was the only craft beer on draft. Our first order of wings were ordered with a hot sauce and tasted very good. They were still hot when served, the chicken on the flats was juicy, but a bit dry on the drumsticks. The hot sauce was not too hot, the only significant problem was that two of the ten wings were missing. The mozzarella sticks were pretty basic. We've had both better and worse. The Melba sauce was decent, it had a nice flavor and a good viscosity. For our first pizza we got what we call our "Steve N." It is a New York style red sauce with mozzarella, ham, bacon, and jalapeños. It should be noted that their "small" 6 slice pizza is not that small if you are eating other things. The crust at the edge of the pizza is very thick. It has a good flavor and requires a fair amount of chewing. Overall, the toppings were adequate but did not extend more than halfway from the center of the pie toward the edges. It was otherwise an enjoyable pizza. While we were enjoying the "Steve N", we ordered another round of Flower Power, more wings with hot sauce and extra crispy, and one of their Sicilian Style pizzas. At this point we also informed our server that we had been shorted two wings in the first order. In order to maximize our opportunity to sample more pizza toppings, we asked that half the Sicilian have sausage, onions, and peppers, and the other half be their chicken parmigiana topping. It took quite a long time for this order to be received. Both the wings and the pizza must have sat for awhile before coming to our table because both were only warm. The Sicilian is a huge square pizza cut into 12 slices. The end crusts are even thicker than what we had on the New York style - especially the corner slices. I did not find the chicken parm to be very tasty. Too much cheese and not enough chicken. The mozzarella didn't taste like or have a consistency like I was expecting. It was almost creamy in texture. The sausage was nothing special, and the onions and peppers were likely added raw after the pizza was removed from the oven. Our server was pleasant and accommodating to our special requests. The unique draw of Nico's may be either the open sky rooftop dining, or the Mug Club that they describe on their web page. Some of the appetizer items are huge portions for a mere $6. Our group will continue onward.

But what brought me here wasn't the coffee, but rather the location. This is the coffee shop in the lobby of Proctor's. It's a great meeting spot in downtown Schenectady, because it's large, has comfortable seating, and free wifi. Of course, there's coffee. Which helps. And the coffee is just fine. They have a dark roast, and a house roast. The house is a blend of Ethiopian and Columbian beans. A medium costs $2.16 and it's unimpeachable. Better than the convenience store. Better than the national donut chain. Maybe that makes it even good. They also have a decaf and a flavored coffee. The very presence of flavored coffee gives me a sense of what kind of coffee shop Apostrophe is trying to be. And that's a shop for people who don't really like the taste of coffee. I'm a hard grader when it comes to coffee places. I really want all coffee shops to offer great coffee and well made espresso drinks. Perhaps, there is something at this shop that makes it a standout. But I've yet to find it. Given Apostrophe's convenient location, I'll most certainly be back.
