Duke's has that cozy bar feel with a British charm to it. Its a great spot to catch up with friends, group, or even head in solo. I'm always in search for the best burger and was recommended here to try the Proper burger and it did not disappoint. The Proper burger is a juicy two patty burger topped with melted Gouda, pickles, red onion, aioli and a sweet chili sauce. It is booming with flavor and sandwiched between a fluffy brioche bun. Accompanied with crispy fries, this burger is high on my list of favorites. Service was friendly and great! She kept those water bottles coming as I drink a lot of water. I went with my friend and it was loud. The place is small and it can quickly be filled and be super loud. I got a little overwhelmed. The food was really good. I enjoyed the shakshuka that came with naan. I like my shakshuka with the texture of the veggies but this was all blended like a sauce. It was good. My friend had the chicken and waffles and the waffles were a little too crispy for my liking but the chicken it was pretty good the honey chilli sauce. My wife and I tried the original Duke's for restaurant week. The menu showcased some delicious dishes. Among them the: Truffle Mac n Cheese, Local Corn 'Elote Locos,' Proper Burger, Posh BLTA, and Strawberry Shortcake. We both liked the corn the best. The burger is very good, was cooked to order, and is definitely one of the better ones we've had. The BLTA was very fresh and included generous helpings of all the ingredients. In fact, the portions of all the dishes were very large. We interacted with a few different staff members while we sat at the bar on the second floor and everyone was pleasant. This is unacceptable and a burger should stand on its own without the need for a sauce. Unfortunately, service was extremely slow when we went on a Sunday afternoon. Despite there not being many tables, we had to flag down multiple servers just to get our order in and our check. In terms of food, what we ordered was ok. Bangers and mash: bangers were good, mash was too pureed and thin for my liking. I wanted their Sunday Roast but they said it was still marinating and wouldn't be ready until 4pm - which was disappointing. Sunday Roast should be served all day! I did order the Yorkshire pudding which is available as a starter/shareable dish served with butter, which was a bit weird to me because I'm used to having it with gravy (preferably as part of Sunday Roast), but I was down to try it. Unfortunately it was so overcooked that it was slightly burnt and hard and was way too salty. Overall, I was really disappointed. The patio is nice to sit outside and the overall ambiance is casual. We got the roasted corn, Mac and cheese, and pickle bucket as our apps. The apps were good - the Mac and cheese was solid and If you like pickles/pickled things, the pickle bucket is a great option to try. Can't go wrong with roasted corn. Wagyu burger had lots of flavor and was just the right height where I could eat it comfortably. Patties are juicy and cheese is nicely melted. In a word: delicious. We stopped here on a total whim and they were able to squeeze in our rather-large party, which in itself is a feat. I appreciated their kindness when they did not have to, and would recommend coming here (but make a reservation)! The drinks here are a good deal! The bottomless is affordable, but know that the everyone at the table has to order one (I think based on DC law). The food here was incredible. We tried the salmon toasts, the truffle mac and cheese, and the ABLT. Far and away the mac and cheese was the standout. Warm and gooey, crispy toasted cheese on the top, and a great infusion of flavor from truffle oil. It comes served in a hot cast iron skillet, keeping it warm and delicious. We recently stopped by Duke's Grocery for lunch on a long weekend afternoon. We put our name on the list once we got there and were advised there was a wait of 45-60 minutes for a table. This was okay for us and we walked around the area to kill time. Luckily on checking with the maitre d' a few times, we were able to get a table after 30 minutes of waiting. We were seated outdoors in one of the roadside cabanas. Service was a bit lacking and we had to wait a long time to place our order and then to get the food. We came to know later that they were short staffed and one of the bartenders was doing double duty waiting tables and servicing the bar too! But the food made up for the slow service. We ordered the following: Latkes - 3 giant sized latkes and enough for sharing! They were well made and tasted good :) Proper Burger - The patty was cooked well and went well with the brioche bread, sauces, pickles and gouda cheese. Impossible Burger - with add on bacon - tasted really good and the bacon added extra flavor to the meal! Wagyu Burger - medium rare worked well for the meal. I wish I had substituted the cheese with Gouda but everything was good! All the dishes were cooked perfectly and was worth the wait! WARNING: High in carbs and fats that will make you food coma afterwards... I wish I read the reviews and got the Proper Burger since I hear it's rated one of the best burgers in DC. Sadly, I decided to get the truffle mac n cheese because I love truffle and it makes a perfect combination with mac n cheese. The mac n cheese was served on a skillet and the top of the dish was baked to perfection. Love the colors and I knew it was going to be good. It was super cheesy and the truffle oil definitely enhanced the mac n cheese. Also loved the cheese blend as it was very good. My only two issues with this dish - overall, it was pretty expensive for a small skillet of mac n cheese - like $14 or $15. I would probably recommend this as an option to share with another person, not something to get for just yourself. I found myself pretty hungry afterwards. Additionally, the bottom of the pan has a thicccc layer of oil. It was hard to eat the mac n cheese touching the pan since I could just taste dripping oil. Would prefer if it was mixed in better... This place has a wide variety of hamburgers to choose from. I'm a huge fan of their Mac n' cheese and casual atmosphere. Personally, I prefer to sit outside as opposed to inside but either choice is cozy. I recommend this spot for folks who are having dinner or lunch with friends. You can catch me ordering their Waygu burger and cocktail or an Austin east cider here. Anytime I am in town I am sure to make a pitsop at Duke's. I am giving 4 out of 5 stars due to the time it takes to receive food after ordering.
