This was my second time at Duling-Kurtz and unfortunately it was quite disappointing in comparison to my first visit, which went very well. We came in last night around 6 and our server was brash, seemed rushed, and rather unfriendly. For the price point, this level of service is unacceptable. For our appetizer we ordered the mushroom tart and it was amazing, but both of our entrees were poorly executed. My friend ordered the crab cake, which he described as flat and subpar. I had the schnitzel, which was the item we specifically came in for as no other restaurants in the area have schnitzel on their menus. It came out looking.... wet. There was a pool of grease around it on the plate and the breading was soft and mushy. It was also very bland, no spices or flavor, not even salt. The spaetzel was also quite sad in the same regards to texture, flavor, and portion size. read more

The dim lighting created an authentic colonial feeling and is good for an intimate dining experience.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The baked brie and oysters rockefeller appetizers were amazing, but the brie could use more crackers on the side. The filet mignon was very good, but the side of truffle fries could be more flavorful. The branzino was delicious, flavorful, and the perfect texture. The herb risotto was the perfect complement, creamy without being gooey. The wienerschnitzel was lightly breaded and fried to perfection with a nice mix of beans and spatzle, the lingonberry jam added a nice touch of sweetness. The scallop entree was delicious, but comically small compared to the portions of the entrees. It was not a filling entree. The fruit cobbler and chocolate mousse were great desserts, but the crème brûlée could have been "brûléed" more. The waiter was very helpful and talkative. read more

My wife and I visited Duling Kurt this Friday, January 9, 2026. We had a 7 o'clock reservation but the hostess said we could come in early. We got there around 6:05 to 6:10 pm and were immediately seated. The host was gracious. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambience was very cozy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waitress, whose name was Amy was fantastic. The food was good, and the conversation was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The noise level was good and the patron was outstanding.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was my wife's birthday and the patron in the next room. Was buying anyone a drink whose birthday was on the 9th. So he and his wife brought my wife a drink, and we went over there to thank him and his wife.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I can't say any more great things about Duling Kurtz all I can say is it's a five-star restaurant customer service is fantastic. Food is good but most importantly, they treat you with great service. If I never recommended a place before I'm recommending one now please visit Duling Kurtz it really special place to go for a special moment. I made reservations for 4 people for New Years day. The website for this restaurant says it is wheelchair accessible and I requested a table that could accommodate a wheelchair. When we arrived we did not see any ramps or accessible accommodations. One of our group went into the restaurant to find out how to bring my wheelchair bound friend inside. We were told to go around the restaurant and we would see a ramp attached to the back door. To get to the ramp you have to go on a path that is unlit and consisted of dirt, gravel and stones. We struggled for 15 minutes but could not traverse the area THIS RESTAURANT IS NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE!!! The website is misleading bordering on lying read more

The old country house is in need of a much overdue facelift. This property needs an investment and some TLC to bring it back to its former glory. The staff is lovely. Menu prices high. It is with a disappointed heart I write this review. I have many great memories of Duling-Kurtz: the first fine dining restaurant I ever ate at (I didn't know food could taste like this), being introduced to popovers, family gatherings (it was a great honor to take my late-parents who never could have afforded Duling-Kurtz), and on and on. My wife and I recently visited for our wedding anniversary (it was the first restaurant I invited her to when we first met) and the atmosphere is still amazing. The hostess is great, and the servers are awesome. It was the food that wasn't up to par. For an appetizer I ordered the Henry's Surf & Turf which was exceptional, and my wife ordered the Chester County Mushroom Soup which she thought was very good, but not great. I went with a special for the evening: Veal Porterhouse with fingerling potatoes. My first disappointment was that the "Porterhouse" did not have the filet portion -- just the strip. Then it was both too salty and on the dry side - and tough. My wife very much enjoyed the Lobster Crepes which were quite delicious and had a generous portion of lobster meat. I wasn't a fan of the dessert; I ordered the Austrian Cheese Strudel, but I believe that is simply a matter of taste. At the end of the night, our bill with tip came to $250. For a fine-dining restaurant with a cost of $125 per person, I expect a much better dining experience. It is difficult to put a star rating on this visit. Comparing Duling-Kurtz to other fine-dining restaurants would justify a 1-star rating. However, as there are so many other qualities of Duling-Kurtz to consider and frankly just good-will from a lifetime of great experiences - I am giving them 3-stars. I hope to re-rate them in the future, in spite of the lacking veal porterhouse, we will be back. Indeed, the popovers make the trip worth it. read more

A charming restaurant that doubles as a bed & breakfast / inn. Now also open to outdoor and indoor dining. Delicious American & German food, and amazing service! We came to celebrate my boyfriend's parents' anniversaries, and it was a wonderful experience! How they're handling safety: When we went inside for dining, we had a private room - there was maybe one other party within the restaurant, so generally quite empty. All servers and staff were in masks. Service: Amy was our server and I have truthfully never met somebody more excited and welcoming! She was very enthusiastic in serving our courses, and also very attentive. She also prepared a candle on our dessert as part of the anniversary celebration. Food: They start off with providing popovers - so light - paired with butter and lemon curd. We got lucky and got 2 servings. As appetizers, we ordered the escargots - very buttery, and French onion soup. Highly recommend both, as they were very well prepared - though be warned: the onion soup contains a lot of cheese! My boyfriend and I also split the wienerschnitzel, which was more than enough for the two of us. Never had lingonberry jam before, but the sweet fruity jam paired very well with this entree! We visited the Duling-Kurtz House tonight for a Valentine's dinner. It was a great experience. The hot and dirty Tito's martini was truly one of the best martini's we've had in a long time - maybe ever. It had a nice, spicy kick. The food was amazing, the portion sizes were more than adequate, and everything was perfectly cooked. I can't believe we've only just discovered it. We had the lobster and crab crepes and the Kennett Square mushroom risotto. Wow. Amazing. We were in front of a beautiful fireplace in the Lena Room. Loved it. We will be back. read more

We had stayed at the Duling-Kurtz years ago on our wedding night and found ourselves in the area today for a late lunch. Since it was 2pm, we had the place to ourselves. The meal started with popovers served with butter and lemon curd which was tasty. We split the Baked French Brie then had Wiener Schnitzel and the alligator appetizer. It's very elegant with white table cloths and linen napkins. There's plenty of parking in the lot. They do not have Coke products. It was a very relaxing lunch. read more

Been here three times. Service and atmosphere are always very nice. Food was exceptional a few years ago, but has slipped a little, IMHO. Also, $37 for a smallish, overcooked chicken breast, gravy, some mashed potatoes and a few asparagus stalks seems a tad high to me in 2024. Salmon portion also seemed small. For as long as I remember I have loved and supported Duling Kurtz I made my Christmas Eve reservation back months ago for 5 people by a very trust worthy employee since loosing my brother and Al it has been our new tradtion! They just called to confirm my reservation today saying 4! I said no 5! They said someone crossed out 5 and changed it to 4!they said they could only serve 4 of our party of 5 really???? I have sent customers and friends over the years had Holidays and Birthday parties there celebrated surviving cancer there I could go on and on. This is so unprofessional! To say i am beyond upset is not even close to how angry I am! I have over looked the run down atmosphere at times and the long waits due to over bookings and always returned because I love traditions and supporting small business! I will never go back and would rather grill hotdogs than leave a family member home alone! All of this none of our doing! Businesses close because of behavior like this. read more

Wow- was that disappointing. I went for my 35th birthday & my mom was excited to try out the beautiful location unaware that the food was terrible. As a starter we had the octopus which was undercooked and fishy. When I commented to the very sweet waitress (my only compliment I will give is the service) stated that everyone says that & she felt the same when she tried it herself. I got the duck- overcooked, tough and stringy. My mom got the lobster crepe which was thicker than an average crepe (more like a poorly made thin pancake) which looked like it had sat out for awhile. My dad got the elk which was a special and the only entree that tasted like the chefs had even attempted to cook. The bill was $280 & change including a bottle of a wine and a martini. I'm happy to pay for a good meal but again wow this was not. The place is beautiful but if they end up on that Gordon Ramsey show because they go out of business because they're food sucks I would not be surprised. read more

WARNING- When you make are making reservation ask them if there is anything special going on that night. If there is I suggest you go on a different evening. We heard rave reviews about DK so when my brother was visiting from NYC I thought this would be a special treat. We arrived and were seated promptly and told our server would be with us shortly. (Don't know why this staff member was not our server as it turned out he was the server to the table behind us). Our server arrived to great us and let us know she would be with us in just a moment. ? She arrived and took our drink orders and before I could ask a question she was gone. A little later she came back popovers and Butter and Lemon Curd spread and said our drinks would be coming out momentarily. This is the way the whole dinner seemed to go. After bringing our drinks we proceeded to order. When we asked for the Sea Bass we found out they no longer had the Sea Bass and the menu had not been updated...........so a last minute decision had to be made as we were hungry at this point. We got our appetizers and then continued to wait. The person serving the table behind us was filling up their water glasses and then proceeded to leave the room. Sigh. I'll try to make this short. There was a rehearsal wedding party going on upstairs and that seemed to take priority over everything. We waited over a half hour for our entrees. We had better wiener schnitzel on the cruise we had just taken, the lamb chops were tasty if a little too rare (no way were we sending it back), my mushroom tart and salad were fine, but the steak and spinach had been over seasoned with salt. We were all thoroughly tired at this point and just wanted to leave. When you are paying these prices, you expect a nice dinner. Luckily we had enough conversation going on to keep us entertained, but it was NOT a pleasant experience to be told over again about the party taking precedence above us. The server was congenial and it wasn't their fault entirely. I wonder how much leeway the employees have in offering some small item to tide us over while waiting. We did get one drink comped only after we ordered it. We left and will not be back...........ever. I totally understand this is a historic landmark, but I found it pitiful that they had bi-fold doors in the little bathroom cubicles in the womans' room. read more

This is the best stake I ever had and I have had stakes all over the country. The service is amazing it was 10 minutes from ordering the food. The ambiance is amazing it deals like you are eating in a old restaurant with real candles and a roaring fire I feel comfortable when I walked in. What a disappointing experience we had on Easter Sunday.... I was so looking forward to taking my girls to this quaint, historic inn for a special dinner because years back when I was dating their Dad, he took me there for a very romantic Birthday dinner and it was truly decadent. We had phenomenal service then, but this time I felt like we were in a diner! Our service was AWFUL, truly sad and for the amount that I had paid for dinner I was so disgusted. I typically don't write reviews...but this stay changed my mind. As a B&B traveler I was so disgusted. I was warned about their continental breakfast...weak coffee...tea...yogurt and something wrapped in cellophane three days in a row! Our towels were so thin with holes we went to the local T.J. Maxx to buy a few to dry our shocked bodies after going from a freeze to a burn in our shower! NOW..lets talk about YUCK! My hubby looked behind the TV and there was so much dirt and filth it was disgusting. I did see the cleaning crew in my room...they did make our beds...change our sheets and sweep...but this was missed! For the money ...no way! I expected something much better...so sad! The grounds at one time must have had gardens...all I saw was weeds! read more

We went for Easter brunch. The place is beautiful and I was excited about eating in this old inn. Service started out good, but declined as our meal went on. The food was ok. For eggs benedict and a mimosa, my total came to $28 dollars!!!! It did come with hashbrowns.... three of them!!!! (3). If top dollar is charged, I expect everything to be near perfect. Love the restaurant, hated my stay at the inn. I generally enjoy historic inns and don't expect the same experience as a stay at a hotel. That being said, the room was not just old, but had peeling paint and walls in the bathroom and a hideously uncomfortable bed with rough-feeling sheets. Walls were so thin that I laid rigidly still to avoid disturbing the guests in the next room by rolling over in the squeaky bed. Didn't even feel comfortable clearing my throat! The guests in the adjoining room were obviously also very aware of the situation and tried to be very quiet, but I could still hear their WHISPERED conversation as if I were in bed with them. Watching television was completely out of the question. If you want to actually sleep, don't stay here! read more

I was excited to eat here because I love French food, it was a birthday celebration for me, and I really needed some escargot and lamb chops. Nothing about the food was disappointing! We started with the grilled octopus and escargot and they were both delicious. I ordered the lamb chops, medium rare, and my husband ordered the lobster crepes with a side of fries. The lamb was cooked and seasoned perfectly and I am looking forward to the leftovers. Yum! My husband loved his lobster and crab crepes and said it was just the right amount of food. Now the fries...OMG. They may be the best cooked fries I've ever had. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and had just the right amount of salt. Another bright spot was the bartender, Michael. We chose a wine that they no longer had so he came to the table with a recommendation. I tasted it and it was too sweet for my taste so he helped us with another option. This time it was perfect. He was patient and helpful and we really appreciated the attention. Now for the experience. Take note...this review is being written during the COVID pandemic. I cannot remember the name of our server, but we ate on the top floor of the inn. The room was cozy and, although our table was right near the stairs, there was a divider placed behind us so you would never know. The server came over with her mask down around her chin. Her nose and mouth were exposed during the entire dinner. She was fun and knowledgeable, but the fact that she never put up her mask made me very uncomfortable. I watched her engage with other servers and employees and no one said anything to her. She was very attentive in the beginning, but after we finished our food, she disappeared. When she reappeared, we asked for dessert menus. She came back and we informed her that we didn't want dessert and she whisked the menus away, not giving us a chance to ask for the bill, and disappeared again. She was gone so long that another server, probably noticing our frustration, came and took our credit card. We could see our server in the next room engaging with another table for at least 10-15 minutes, mask down, while we waited to pay and leave. I ended up going to get the car while my husband waited. He was approached by management who finally went to get our server so he could pay and we could leave. Up until the first time the server disappeared this was honestly a 5-star experience, regardless of the mask. After the end of dinner, I just couldn't. Hopefully management will address this issue and maybe we will return some day. read more

The restaurant is wonderful but don't stay at the Inn. Room was TINY, with only one chair (though you're required to eat breakfast in your room ), the "breakfast" consisted of stale packaged baked goods, fruit, weak coffee , and yogurt. No juice. We will NOT stay here again. read more

We had dinner here for Father's Day. It had been several years since our last visit. All of us loved the setting, the service and the food. We were greeted graciously and service was warm and friendly. Our entrees were all very different: short ribs, shrimp and scallops and New England lobster roll. Each one was delicious. I had the warm lintzer torte for dessert which was light, flaky, just sweet enough-awesome. My husband had the fruit cobbler which was just okay but the ice cream that came with it was delicious! Four of us dined there Sunday night and it was fantastic. We were sat at a cozy spot next to the fireplace. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. We absolutely loved everything we had for dinner. The wild mushroom tart was spectacular, escargot and baked brie. Wow. My wife is vegan and they even prepared a garden fresh pasta bowl for her. Possibly the best dinner I have ever eaten. I cannot say enough good things about the food at this restaurant. Absolutely delicious. If I could give it 10 stars I would. I had the duck with cranberry/pomegranate reduction and my girlfriend had the New York strip steak with pepper gravy. Then we had chocolate volcanoes cake and chocolate mousse. All of them were exquisite. We spent about 3 hours in a delightful relaxed dinner. The restaurant is a beautiful early 19th century farmhouse (with some more modern additions). Candlelit tables around a nice fireplace. Our server, Amy, was the most enthusiastic waitress I have ever met. The overnight deal with a room in the attached B&B and dinner for 2 is a really good deal. All in all a fantastic dinner experience! read more
