My new apartment has this really tight, curved staircase. I warned the company about it. The two movers who showed up just looked at it, nodded, and got to work. They took my queen-size mattress and wrapped it tightly. Then they did this sort of gentle shuffle-turn maneuver all the way down without hitting a wall. It was like watching a dance. They did the same with my dresser and desk. Their problem-solving for that staircase was amazing. read more

We had to move the entire storage closet from my dad's photography studio to a new building. There were lights, stands, cords, cameras and props. The movers asked which equipment was most fragile. They separated camera bags from the boxes and wrapped the stands in padding. They coiled the cords and packed them in labeled bags. They carried the lights upright so they wouldn't bend. At the new studio, they asked where to put the gear and kept the cameras closest to the wall for safety. My dad felt like they understood how valuable his work tools were. read more

THE MOVE FROM HELL The cost is attractive but you will pay more in the end. The movers changed my agreed upon date without mentioning it. just slid it in the contract. Instead of moving on a Friday I had to move on a Saturday. The person managing my account apologized and said they would send someone at 8am for a now same day move and help me recoup dome of the damages monitairily. They did not show up at 8am, they showed up at 1PM. I called and called and no one returned my calls. I started moving my own stuff to save time. I had to pay someone to split the freight elevator. Mid way through the move I received a call from Dumbo demanding and additional $500 because the elevator was too far from my apartment. they finished that evening and were not able to complete the same day move. After the movers finished unloading the truck, I tipped them $500, they had the audacity to ask me for more! No one called me in regards to the move, the lateness, possible refund. NOTHING. Once I started unpacking I noticed they damaged 2 pieces of are they did not individually wrap and damaged my bicycle. I filed a claim and they offered me $16! As soon as they took my money they were no longer "responsible" for anything. If this review saves anyone else from this nightmare company. it was worth it. read more

Terrible experience. Nickel and dimed the entire time. Broke my tv and cracked my table. One of the movers unwrapped a mirror at my new place and exclaimed in surprise when it wasn't broke. Demanded a cash "service charge" at the end ON TOP OF a tip. Left so many items for me to have to move myself that it took me several trips to complete the move myself in the end. The management brushed off my complaints and then asked me to leave a review. Never again with this company. I'm heartened to see that others have had a similarly bad experience. Very good experience moving twice within Brooklyn (apt - storage - apt) with Dumbo. Joel was fantastic at helping me line up their services, they were on time as scheduled & advertised, and efficient with moving and packing the truck. Only downside was some cosmetic damages to my furniture and the walls and wood paneling in my apartment's stairwell/hallway -- they rushed a bit with some furniture pieces that should've probably been better protected with blankets, or handled by 2 people instead of clumsily by 1 when going up stairs. Anyway, that's to be expected with cross-town moves and I always assume I'm going to wind up with a couple of dings. Overall I was happy and would gladly use Dumbo again and recommend them to a friend. read more

BAIT AND SWITCH. Their website quotes one price and they will email you after with a much higher quote - do not trust them. This is classic bait and switch and highly illegal. I will be filing for a formal complain with the FTC in hopes that they will fix it permanently and stop misleading customers. When asked why the price changed when nothing has been updated, they said the algorithm on the website is wrong. Well, maybe they should fix it and not mislead consumers? After I cited legal sources, they said the price didn't include a bunch of other fees (some of which are just straight up lies because you can see it in the price breakdown on the website's quote). Website quoted me $154.80, with nothing changed in my request, sales person reached out and said it was $275. DO NOT USE THEM. read more

Bella was very patient and professional over the phone during the entire booking process, despite it being highly iterative and with our plans changing from day to day up until the final moving plan was determined. Beware of Dumbo Moving and Storage. Our movers started out the day by demanding hundreds of dollars in cash payments to move our things after we had already prepaid for the move. Then, I specifically asked the team to take extra caution while handling a burl wood and acrylic credenza as it's by far the most expensive piece in our home. We trusted that Dumbo Moving would do everything necessary to keep it safe. Upon move-in, the siding of the credenza had deep scratches and a chip taken off of one of its corners. While I understand incidents can happen (they also made quite a few dark scuff marks on our white couch), this one was extremely disappointing as we purchased the piece for over $3000. A couple days later after unpacking everything, we realized that our LG OLED TV had been mechanically damaged in the moving process and would no longer turn on. We were forced to replace our TV (after a repairman said he was not able to fix it). That was what I THOUGHT was the last straw for us. But it got even worse from here. We realized that hundreds of dollars worth of items of ours had been STOLEN out of our moving bins, including sentimental items. New Yorkers -- needless to say -- please stay away from Dumbo Moving. We really wish we had gone with Piece of Cake or Clean Cut, whom we've had seamless experiences with during past moves, instead. This company and its workers are nothing short of corrupt. read more

I highly recommend Dumbo Moving! We moved in Feb 2026 from Kips Bay Manhattan 45 min away to Crown Heights, BK. Our contact Hank was great to work with, easy to communicate with, flexible with figuring out pick up times, shared a free quote, sent their COI quickly, and had very reasonable and fair pricing (cheaper than competitors; $695 total for our one bedroom move w large and fragile furniture). The movers were timely, kind, respectful, quick and efficient, no damage to our items, and even handled parking after a snowstorm that weekend. Between several moves, storage for nearly a year, communication with several folks in the Dumbo organization, and having spent over 10K with them, I feel plenty qualified to leave a thorough review of their services. A friend of mine recommended Dumbo as a last resort. They had availability, were relatively affordable at 1K, and also had storage. My handler, Edward, assured me that things would go smoothly but that I would have to pay for everything upfront, not including gratuity for the movers (foreshadowing a nightmare scenario). The movers arrived on time with a team of 3 men. I was only able to communicate with Tornike, who asked that I call him Thomas. They were all from the country of Georgia, and he was the only one who could speak some English. Our conversation was difficult, especially when it came to direction and handling of items. At one point, Tornike stopped to chat with me. He gave me a sob story about how they don't make much money as movers and that I *will* be giving him a good tip. I didn't appreciate the gesture and felt it was incredibly unprofessional. It turns out there were several items not accounted for on the inventory list, which meant there were extras on my end. He got on the phone with his manager and began speaking in Russian, while making small comments in Georgian to his colleagues. He later told me that the extra charges would amount to additional $900. It's practically double the charge, but this was my error and I accepted the charges. I offered to pay the amount by credit card and Tornike was upset by this. He told his crew to stop working and asked that I pay him in cash. I had informed him I only had $500 in cash, which was intended to be his tip. He became angry and told me that he was expecting $800 and began pacing around my apartment. I was about to call my contact at Dumbo when he asked me not to reach out. I think I understood what was happening: Pocket the money in cash and not inform the company to prevent less "hassle" from me by not accounting for the additional inventory. This was as infuriating as it was uncomfortable. After speaking to his manager on the phone, they agreed to charge it on my credit card. There were a number of digital forms on the doc that I had to acknowledge, which included quite a few spelling errors. This isn't a huge deal per se, but it is a bad look for the company. Now that I've paid in full, they finally went back to work after an hour delay. They eventually loaded up everything in the truck but not without asking for more tips since the move was officially over. I handed over the cash I had on me and there was little acknowledgement and no thank yous. Just a head nod. After they finally closed the doors and drove away, I was left wondering if I'd ever see my things again. I got into a cab and headed straight for LaGuardia for my flight. My things were to be moved to storage till I could figure out what to do with it. I sent messages to my handler, who eventually called me and heard my side of the story. He mentioned that the Georgian crew was relatively new and did not understand professionalism and was apologetic. He offered to refund $400 back to me, which I accepted. Fast forward nearly 10 months, my things are in storage. I've been paying $283 a month and know my destination is Texas. An option was to have other movers come to their facility in NJ or utilize their services and deliver straight from there for 6K. I couldn't be there in person to supervise the move, so I went with Dumbo again. There is a 14 day delivery window for most states down south and the midwest. Since they're driving across the country, they would also include a tracker which included a unique URL in which I could watch where the truck was in real time. This was by far *the coolest thing* to watch the truck traverse down the east coast and into Texas over the course of two weeks. By the time it was delivery day, everything was fairly smooth. My things were listed in their inventory with numbers on each item, but it was hard to track these things since a lot of them were labeled after the fact. Upon further inspection on the items, it was a major dud. My bed had numerous brown / yellow stains, I presume were from some kind of liquid. My weight sets were damaged, likely dropped during the transfers and dented in various areas. The limited furniture I did have, such as my computer desk, had uneven legs, scratches along the wood, and bubbling (water) of certain corners. I had boxes that were clearly exhibiting signs of water damage and some had to be taped additional to prevent additional spillage. I'm not going to say that Dumbo isn't a good moving company because I've heard good things from others (albeit, drastically smaller moves). Maybe it was just bad timing (pandemic) or bad luck with newbie movers and/or handling of items. But I'm definitely glad to never use them again. read more

In Feb 2026, we hired Dumbo Moving to pick up from the Bronx, drop off/pick up in Queens, then back to drop off in the Bronx. Everything went so well! The two movers Chino & Miguel were so nice, careful, and respectful with the furniture. And so very efficient! They came on the early side of their promised window and the trips were done in 3 hours. Plus, the company was so awesome and accommodating with moving up our date to avoid one of those crazy blizzards. We would use them again! read more

I don't know where to begin. Moving has been a nightmare for me. Single mom limited funds, leaving NY has been the ultimate challenge. I had most of my things in storage and needed last minute help. This ENTIRE team was amazing, friendly, Rob (assuming he's the dispatcher) found me someone within an hour being that my storage closed at 7pm and I called at approx 2pm at a reasonable price. The team came and hustled to get my things over smoothly and efficiently. I recommend them to EVERYONE. Definitely worth the call. We moved two guest beds, a wardrobe and a mattress set from my uncle's place to ours. The movers stood the mattress on its side and wrapped both handles so they wouldn't tear. They padded the wardrobe corners before lifting it. At our house, they carried the beds downstairs and assembled them step by step. They tightened each bolt and made sure nothing wobbled. Very satisfying service from start to finish. read more

So they were nice on the phone they gave me a rate and pretty much that's what they charged, I told them that you guys are underestimating on how many items we have in our home, the we're trying to reassure it should be enough. Of course it wasn't enough! I had to go with another company after the experience I had with this one. We had an issue with our moving dates on when our furniture would actually be at our home, we made it work. However, my main issues was with the movers. The issue was they FORCING you to tip them and the fact they don't tell you to the end! I had a tip waiting for them but it's no where, where they were asking for. Why do all the work and not knowing that we have the money or not? They literally sat in my driveway for hours waiting for money. Which I felt uncomfortable with them doing, they didn't want a check or for it to go through their company, just cash! Awful experience. Had my move booked May 1st from 1-3. I did not receive any communication once 1pm came so I called. They said it will arrive in-between 1-4. Once 3 came they said they could not get in contact with the movers and were not sure when they were coming. Um sorry? I booked this from 1-3 and the only communication about being late was because I called. I kept calling back trying to get an update and finally around 4 they said they will be arriving around 4:30/4:45. That time past and the arrival time just kept getting pushed farther and farther back and FINALLY they arrived at 6pm. This was NOT due to traffic, they booked too many people in one day and just wanted to get my money. The lack of communication given to me was insane. I started to move half my stuff down because I booked my elevator with my building 1-4. To top it off as I am trying to get a partial refund for this, they said industry standard is $50-$125 for a 24-hour delay. Imagine them being a day late and the only refund you get is $50? Dumbo moving was absolutely the WORST EXPERIENCE EVER! We gave them the amount of items we were moving. They had the entire list. They knew EXACTLY the items we had. The day of my move they sent an extremely small van looking thing knowing we had large items to move. They then tried to charge us almost 500 dollars extra and wouldn't move us until two days later when we had to be out the next day. They then sent a MASSIVE truck that was NOT needed for our move. Tried to say we could oay 2,000 for that when we did NOT NEED IT! They rip off their guests and they were extremely unprofessional and disrespectful to my husband. NEVER EVER USE THESE PEOPLE. BEWARE: if I could leave negative stars I would!!!! I usually go with Piece of Cake or Clutter and never had an issue. I ended up with Dumbo Moving due to a last minute change in my move and the other 2 companies did not have availability. If you are a single female DO NOT use this company. Your safety could be at risk. Prior to the Paval and his team (truck #170) arriving to my apartment I had washed my hands and removed 5 rings I was wearing and a necklace leaving them by the bathroom sink. I had to step out to get supplied for the move which a few moments later Pavel and his team arrived. I came back to apartment let them in and went over what needed to be done. I then offered to go get them water and sandwiches. When I went across the street I remembered my jewelry but figured I would be gone for a few minutes. When I returned I immediately went into the bathroom and only one ring and the necklace was there. I immediately knew they had been stolen because I do not misremember and especially I wear these 3 rings as a stack. These 3 rings are always together and they made the mistake of just taking the bottom 2. The guys try to say maybe it fell in box. While I was packing and I know that's false because the 3 rings are always together and I have a clear memory of what I did with my jewelry before they arrived. I knew that by getting on the phone with a friend of mine and saying I was going to the call the police that eventually the rings would "magically" show up somewhere. While I was on the phone outside on my balcony discussing having to call the police and getting security footage of the hallway to see if a neighbor had entered my apartment while it was unlocked. I turn around to see flames in my kitchen. One of the guys accidentally turned on the stove and did not notice and set fire to the moving paper. They continue to gaslight me trying to tell me I just put it somewhere like in the nightstand. I KNOW I DID NOT DO THIS. AND IF I DID ALL 3 DIAMOND RINGS WOULD HAVE BEEN TOGETHER. Right as I was about to call the police to file a report they unpacked a nightstand they just packed up and pulled out a drawer and there are my jewelry. In drawer that I have not open in 5 months. I do not sleep on that side of the bed. As they were wrapping up I kept pointing out items they did not pack and were leaving. I was clear anything on the kitchen island didn't need to be pack but no they still kept leaving things behind and then started to put things on the island so they didn't have to pack it. I wanted this move to be over with and be done with these people. At the new apartment Pavel sends me a link and force me to write a good review with him standing over me against anything I believe because they just attempted to STEAL from me and set FIRE to my old apartment. I am single female by myself with these strange men that ARE criminals intimidating me. All move they were harassing me about a tip and at the end they had me Venmo them a tip. Again, I am being intimidated here and against what I want to give, I gave them 200 to get rid of them and since they are standing over me I felt like my life was in danger. The one with the Venmo account shows Pavel the phone and they are shake their head and the 2 leave. Leaving me alone with Pavel where he starts berating me that what I gave wasn't enough and I needed to give me more money. I had to get my phone and say I was calling security at my new place to get him out of my apartment. Below you can see the photo of the damage the cause to the stove, mess they left behind and all the things they DID NOT pack and left behind even though I specially when I booked this moved asked for packing services. I reached out to the company and they claimed to be apologetic and wanted to set up a call with me and then ghosted me when I responded. read more

I had a horrible experience with Dumbo moving. They kept my stereo system on the truck and would not take it out. They lied and kept saying the remaining boxes were not mine and I know the truck was empty when they started packing my stuff up. They asked all kinds of weird questions like how long would my stuff be in storage, etc. aside from stealing some of my things, the movers were also very rude and slammed my stuff around. This company is not cheap either.... I will never use them again and definitely would not recommend! Very disappointed and angry. Negative: 1. Had a video call to provide necessary visual for accurate quote. Was guaranteed price and told they added in a cushion for extras just in case as I said I don't want surprises and won't pay more. They charged $300 more for 10 extra boxes and then took back several boxes for which we paid. 2. No mattress protection whatsoever. They used our bedsheet to drag mattress on the ground. Upholstered headboard and sideboards had no protection either and were exposed to dirt. 3. Threw fragile items in boxes without proper packing or protection. By some miracle they didn't break thank God. 4. Did not label a single box. Positive: 1. They got our stuff from point A to point B without breaking. 2. The movers and customer service were friendly. 3. Showed up on time. If you pack your own boxes and cover your mattress maybe it's worth using them as their price is lower than others. But I would not spend the money to have them pack things. But if you do, you need to watch them carefully... my husband was helping instead of watching which was our mistake. read more

These people are crooks. Do not trust them with anything. Completely unprofessional, it is 100% worth it to pay more for anything you are trying to do than deal with this company. They sent people to our home who had clearly never moved before. Nothing was wrapped properly, they throw boxes marked "fragile" over their head and upside down. Caused several thousands of damage to our furniture because they didn't wrap it and dragged it across the street. We asked for a refund. Didn't want to dispute the charges and deal with the back and forth, just wanted our money back. They refused, wouldn't pick up the phone, and basically said, 'too bad'. read more

Extremely overpriced lots of hidden fees. Charges "premium rate" for moving out on the first of the month. Gives false quote online that don't include "fees" and taxes. They require you to call them to get the accurate rate. Also, they called me twice a day for a week after I said the quote was outside our budget. Unfortunately feels like price gouging. read more

Used this company for my last 4 moves over the course of the past 10 years, and they just lost a customer. My last move last year was for a studio apartment, the two movers came in and told me it was too much and that they would have to call the company to upgrade the truck and charge a fee. I told them this is the exact amount of things I moved the past 3 times with no problem. They then extorted me saying if I dont tip them an extra $50, then they'll call the company and tell them to charge me $150 more to upgrade my move. I paid the $50 since I had to move that day, but I've spend thousands on this business only for them to lose a customer over $50. Crazy. read more

AS OF THIS MORNING, SUNDAY, AUGUST 3,2025,4 DAYS AFTER DUMBO MOVING AND STORAGE FAILED TO MOVE MY FURNITURE, NO REPRESENTATIVE OF THE COMPANY HAS CONTACTED ME. BEWARE POSSIBLE SCAM!!! I paid Dumbo $925 (plus paid an additional $78 in personal transportation costs for myself for car service from the assisted living facility in which I reside) of my hard earned money to move many, but not all, of my belongings from my former home. Because of a mixup on my part, Dumbo gave me three hours of time during which they were to have helped me pack and move the items less than 3 quarters of a mile (approximately 15 New York City blocks). Building management had padded the elevator to keep any damage to a minimum, assigned security to help with the move, and allowed an additional hour in which to move out at their own expense. Dumbo Moving was supposed to have arrived at 3:00 p.m. today. It Is now 6:54 p.m. and no one from Dumbo has either shown up or contacted me. I was only able to pack and move one suitcase. I had three strokes at one time, am unable to lift more than 3 pounds, am seriously disabled, and was especially depending on their salesperson, Joel, who kept shining me on. It took me three months to save up the money to pay for this move and move into assisted living, of which I took great pains to make Joel aware. There is a special place in hell for these guys. *Addendum: Dumbo's driver telephoned me at approximately 7:20 p.m., 10 minutes after management requested they take down the padding in the elevator and no longer inconvenience other tenants any further, because moveouts are not done in the dark, to find out where I was located. In short, I was only able to pack up one suitcase of my belongings from a 4 1/2 room apartment in which I had lived for over 34 years. Because Dumbo Moving failed to show up I have lost everything I own. The "move" was a complete and utter disaster. read more

Horrible experience. My mom has used them in the past and i remember they did an ok job. 3 Russian guys came. So now that I had to move i called them too. Wow what a mistake. First there was no protocol of listed items. They said they would charge me a flat rate and ended up charging me per item. They ledt half my stuff at the original location because I refused to pay more and had exceeded theyl so called 30 boxes (ind you I paid close to $1000 for a few pieces of furniture and 30 boxes) and this was supposed to be a flat rate?? Where is my FLAT RATE. By the time they left my house their truck was 90% empty! Also let's not forget how convenient it was to speak with the moving guys. All three that came spoke only Russian and we would communicate through Google translate. The boss Alex is incredibly rude and a liar saying that I agreed to certain items that I did not and would not agree to take what I actually needed if i didn't pay more!!!
