My husband and I went to Dumpling House as a last minute decision. I love dumplings and bao and am always looking for new places to try. And Dumpling House did not disappoint. We walked in and were seated quickly. The server brought us water and gave us a quick minute to look over the menu. We ordered the marinated cucumber, scallion pancake, and spring rolls to start. My husband and I agreed the spring rolls were our favorite food item of the entire meal. They were incredibly crunchy but not oily and the sweet and sour sauce was a nice compliment to the dish. We both also enjoyed the marinated cucumber. It was refreshing and kept a nice crunch as well. The scallion pancake was what we expected. I ordered the bbq pork bao and spicy xiao long bao. The pork bao was good and soft. The spicy XLB was good and flavorful. My husband ordered the spinach dumpling and vegetable pot stickers. Both were flavorful and he enjoyed the filling in both. There is a line, but it moves quickly and whether you are inside or out, the vibe is good and you'll be taken care of. I came here for lunch with a friend. I liked the food and would come back. You order your food from your phone which I personally liked but you pay out with the server. I really liked the garlic green beans, Hong Kong wonton soup and custard buns. I was hoping the sesame buns were better than they were. Everything was around $10 and for 6 items between us it was $62 for lunch. Service was quick for lunch but it doesn't seem like a place that gets crazy busy. I decided to try Dumpling House after seeing its 4.5 star rating and hearing several positive remarks. My friends and I arrived with fairly high expectations -- unfortunately, the experience was anything but impressive. The food was okay, but the service was genuinely awful. Our server acted like we were complete idiots for asking which dishes contained pork (one of us is vegetarian -- a perfectly reasonable question). We ordered everything online through our phone as well, so her only actual responsibilities were dropping off the food and handing us napkins -- yet somehow she still managed to be rude and cold every interaction we had. Normally I tip at least 20% to all service people. But after the couple interactions I did have with our waiter I decided against. She did not take our order, was incredibly rude with the couple interactions we did have, and only checked up on us a couple times in the two hours we were there. But that's not the worst part. She demanded a tip. She literally walked up to our table and pressured us after giving us attitude all night. I usually tip 20% without hesitation, but expecting a tip after multiple rude interactions and zero real service is beyond me. I'm not one to write reviews or give feedback, but management at this establishment should be aware because this behavior is unacceptable. read more

I would say Dumpling House has average soup dumplings Palette San Francisco tends to be my go-to, but it was fairly late when I decided to order so I ended up going with this location. Although both the bao and the soup dumplings were delivered warm, right away I could tell the quality of the ingredients was lower. The containers of soy sauce had also opened and gotten all over the dumplings which is a personal pet peeve of mine. I prefer them packaged in their own box. All in all, while I liked the style of bao from Dumpling House, I mainly order for the soup dumplings, and they were so average I just wouldn't go with them again. read more

The service is somewhat self serve as you scan a qr code and order for the table and pay. The food is pretty good. Probably one of the better xiao long bao places you can get. They are piping hot and have a generous amount of soup in them. The pork and cabbage is a tried and true winner. The truffle ones are good too if you like that umami truffle flavor. Wonton chili is a good one as well with a good balance of salt and spice and maybe a little sweetness too? The servers are all nice and will interact with you despite self service. The atmosphere is pretty casual and can vary from loud to quiet depending on the time. It feels really comfy inside. This was my favorite stop on my SF trip this time around! Staff was very nice and all food came out promptly. Note: Not pictured but we also ordered the pan-fried vegetable dumplings. If you get those, order them first because the staff informed us its the dish that takes the longest to cook ! Definitely worth the wait. Due to the variety of fillings and the various of wrappers, each dish had their own unique texture that made you want to keep eating more ! My personal favorite this time around was the chili wonton dish. To round out the meal, we also ordered oolong tea which comes in a very cute clear pot with matching cups. The xlb were like gushers for sure! The Siu Mai were alright. All we had were dumplings, so I'm not sure how their noodle dishes are, but I'm sure they're pretty good too.
