Red Mountain Noodle House surpassed those expectations all the way. I thought the food was DELICIOUS. Some of the best quality Chinese I've had in recent months from takeout. I almost didn't want to write this review because this place is such a hidden gem. I'd highly suggest the house special soup and a lot of the hand pulled noodle dishes as well. I thought their dumplings were good but I'm sure there are better things to get on their menu. I will note that this place gets pretty popular at night so if you're going to dine in make sure you understand that and it's also cash only to my knowledge. DO NOT order anything from the "Special Summer Menu." It is essentially a bowl of tepid noodles slathered with some horrible commercial sauce and a few vegetables. You can do better at literally any other Chinese take out place in the area for less money. Mine was with some awful peanut sauce that made the dish inedible. These items should not appear on the menu. Also had the greasy scallion pancakes which were served with some sort of indistinguishable sauce (not soy, closer to hoisin, which is not typical). Again, could not finish as they were beyond the grease factor. I wanted to order the vegetable dumplings, which were reliably good, but for some reason did not appear on their automated menu system. Finally, as a Caucasian customer I always enjoy having the racist staff bring me a plastic fork instead of chopsticks. It is the final insult to a mediocre experience.

So I did what I always do in that situation, which is to enter, fumblefu*k around in English and give my best impression of a forlorn, hungry guy willing to spend some money to get fed. There were 2 service staff that were on me immediately in a nice way. They helped get me oriented with an English menu and a $3 beer and I tucked into a strategic corner to consider the large array of authentic offerings on the menu while watching the parties going on around me. My take-away order was substantial in portion sizes for the price. They get high marks for that and I thought the taste was good if but a bit on the salty side. Despite the saltiness, there was plenty of mouth-numbing Sichuan peppercorn paresthesias assaulting my lips and tongue after! There were many interesting items on the menu that I would have tried had I been more than 1 person (I was not sure I could eat an entire portion of offals alone) or had I been eating in the restaurant (they have things that do not seem like they would travel well). It just made me want to go back. Here are some of the things on the menu that you won't see everyday outside of a bona fide Chinatown: Boiled Blood Curd in Pot; Hot Spicy Frog; Pork Feet with Hot Sauce; Ox Tongue and Tripe; Jelly Fish Heads; Stinky Tofu. There are about 15 other dishes on the menu that would make for either a great eating adventure or a good museum collection for a psychopath depending on your world view. I see that there are some negative comments on here about this place and I will agree with the comment that I found the food to be heavily seasoned, almost overly so. But I enjoyed what I had and am a fan of their price:portion ratio. I found the wait staff to be friendly and helpful. Plus, there was obviously something that the 40 or so drunken Chinese natives in the place knew about going here for a great time and a good meal.
