    Spicy beef over rice
    Jackson Y.

Located a mile outside of downtown Flushing is Red Mountain Noodle House. This is a small mom and pop shop that serves authentic Chinese comfort food. The staff is super friendly and You can either order from the paper menu or look at the wall sized menu with pictures. We ordered: Fried dumplings Young Zhou Fried Rice Spicy beef over Rice Fried Chicken Cutlet over Rice Ambiance / decor: no frills wooden tables and chairs. Walls are adorned with picture menus. Food: fried dumplings are freshly made onsite. The fried rice and spicy beef are authentically Chinese (aka not Chinese takeout). The only downside was the fried chicken cutlet ... it was a little too crunchy and overcooked. Value: most items on the menu are a bargain at under $10. TL/DR: nothing fancy or pretentious here...just comfort food at its best ... just stick to the Chinese items on menu ;)

What a gem! This place is my go-to spot in the area for really amazing food What I've had so far: beef stir fried pulled noodles, steamed dumplings, peanut butter noodles, bell pepper and shredded pork pulled noodles The stir fried noodles are really something special. They pull their noodles in house, and it gives them a delightfully springy, chewy texture that soaks up all the delicious beef sauce or other toppings they put in! The beef pulled noodles really is a must get for anyone stuck on what to order. Their dumplings are very well seasoned, though a bit on the saltier side. They have tubs of homemade chili oil at each table (it's not very spicy) and I LOVE showering it onto my dumplings for a kick! The skin is thin but sturdy so it doesn't fall apart into a mess on your plate. Well done, Red Mountain!

I ordered their lunch almost everyweek. Farmers chicken is my favorite. And 炸酱面 is another must order one Don't go there during the lunch hour, it's crowded. Coz their food is cheap but tasty. Try to dine in, I prefer eat there than take out

I really didn't want to review this place and give away an amazing hidden gem. I want to keep it under the radar and all to myself before it becomes a big deal and hipsters start eating here and the prices go up, but as a dutiful Yelper, I feel it is my responsibility to share yummy finds. Their specialty is handpulled noodles. They serve fuzhounese cuisine which is no frills, affordable food. Their handpulled noodles are perfectly bouncy and chewy. There's nothing like a soggy noodle that makes me lose my food boner. I got the house special soup noodle that comes with tripe, tendons, and stewed beef. The portion was huge for $7.50. My friend had the lamb noodle soup that was equally delicious on a chilly night. Add some chili oil for a kick. The fried dumplings were surprisingly amazing. They were bursting with meaty juiciness! Usually fried dumplings are on the drier side, but these were like little pockets of soupy fried meat for $5 for 10. I'm in love with this place. This restaurant represents a perfect find for me; cheap and delicious!

the hair(s) in my food, extracted.

I am giving a very generous rating of two stars since the other items in my group order were acceptable. However, my chicken fried rice, although a solid portion size, contained some inexcusable sanitary violations. I was sifting through my rice when I discovered multiple hairs, or at least multiple pieces of one long hair. The individual pieces were really short and had inconsistent lengths, which leads me to believe that at some point in the cooking process it got chopped up along with the ingredients. I cannot imagine how a professional chef does not notice a long strand of hair on a chopping board, or has the nerve to ignore it and continue chopping. There was even a bit of hair lodged inside a bit of egg, which would be kind of funny if I had not been eating the fried rice. Needless to say, I lost my appetite after coming into contact with the hairs and did not eat another bite. I've attached a photo for reference. (edit) I've decided to update my review to a 4 star experience after I went back a couple of times. The staff there is friendly, the food is solid and quick to come, and I have not encountered another hair. Thus, I've concluded that the experience with the hairs in my rice was an isolated incident and certainly not an indication of a large-scale health violation. Please do not let the first part of my review influence your perception of this place too much - it's actually pretty good.

    Seafood Handpulled Noodle Soup
    Chun M.

Red Mountain being a half mile down Kissena Blvd from Roosevelt Ave isn't as popular as some of the other hand-pulled noodle shops up near the 7 train, but it's just as good. Prices have gone up lately by a dollar or two, due to the noodle craze and inflated prices these days. They're open late until 11pm! These are some hardworking people, so I'm glad to give them my business. You might even score a street parking space so that you can run in to grab your order. Even if you don't order in advance, they can whip up an order in no time flat! The beef noodle soup is solid and the seafood noodle is pretty good as well. Just be careful of the shrimp. The heads are still on and they have sharp mandibles, when you bite their heads off and shell them. The noodles themselves have the perfect texture and just the right amount of chewiness. The broth is the perfect accompaniment to the noodles, bringing all the flavors together. If the noodles aren't enough of a meal for you, then get an order or two of either steamed or pan-fried dumplings. Everything is made as fresh as can be, so you can't really go wrong with anything you order from the menu.

Beef noodle soup (#3) with extra veggies and chili oil ($7.50)

One of the best beef noodles in town! (And cheapest too. It's only 6.50 including tax). The broth is really flavorful and the meat is so tender. The portion is HUGE so I always leave the restaurant with half finished bowl yet full belly.

This is a cheap place. You don't tip them. They speak Fuzhou, Mandarin, and their daughter speaks English. I just got a classic beef noodle soup. I don't believe the noodles were hand pulled. They were super bland and there was a ton of it. The beef was really good and slightly chewy due to the tendons, just the way I like. There was some bok choy underneath as well. I think this was a very average noodle shop. The broth was good, but not too impressive. I'm unsure if I'd come back, though I do only live a 5 minute walk away.

Parking around here between 5-6 is a pain in the neck with the traffic and the apt complexes! I got the #1 house special noodles in house special soup (or something along those lines). It was basically hand pulled noodles w/ beef, beef tripe, beef tendon, tea egg and 1-2 lil pieces of choy. The noodles here were a little too chewy. The broth was nice and sweet, but I was really thirsty afterwards (maybe it's the MSG). The tripe, beef tendon, and beef were okay. Some of it had a slightly weird smell/taste to it...which..if it was fresh/correctly treated..shouldn't be the case. Overall, a decent meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way with the parking situation to go here again.

    Greg W.

I gave it a 4 star because I only had a chance to get take out from this hole in the wall restaurant. I often pass by and notice that it's packed off Cherry and Kissena. The hand-pulled noodles were fresh and chewy. Service was fast and the food was nicely portioned. Soup noodles are supposed to be just as good. This place needs to be reviewed again on my next trip.

    Fresh Pork Hand Noodle Soup.
    Albie P.

Every time I tried hand pulled noodles in other restaurants, I wasn't really feeling them. Today I decided to give it one more chance after stumbling upon this restaurant. I was greeted with a smile right away and was given the option to sit anywhere I like. I observed the restaurant to be small but clean. I ordered the Fresh Pork Hand Pulled Noodles Soup and I really enjoyed it. The chicken broth was not too salty but still had flavor. Pork had flavor as well but I could've done it without the bones. All in all it was a great bowl of soup for a rainy day. I will return in the future. Oh and it's a cash only joint.

Luckily, there was only a short wait for our party of two at around 12pm...but I suspect the wait can be much longer later in the afternoon or during peak dinner times. Once your number is called, you go up some stairs to the eating/tabled area. There are tables and chairs for 2, 4 and more guests throughout the large space. The pace of the restaurant is very fast...as soon as you are seated, you are given tea and your waiter comes over right away to take any order you are ready to give. Its helpful to ask for a menu while you are waiting for a table so you know what to order when asked. We had some soup dumplings as well as a (large) soup. Everything was very good and out in about 15 minutes...very fast. The soup dumplings were great...but as expected are filled with piping hot broth so be careful when eating. They have some other appetizers and dishes available. There are also some drink options including cold teas, soft drinks and beer. Overall a great experience...despite visiting on a busy Saturday, we were in and out in about 40-45 minutes. Street parking can be tough in the area but there are a few garages around...one of the more reasonable options is the garage at the Skyview shops which currently charge about $6 for up to three (3) hours and is a short 5 minute walk away.

Would you like to be transported back in time to ancient china?…read more How about just testing your spice tolerance to see if you can hang with the best? Well, if you want all of that, PLUS hot pot, look no further - this is the place to be! There is a reason this is one of the highest recommend spots to visit when you're in Flushing. First off, entrance? SO UNASSUMING. It's like, the tiniest door, with no real obvious signage. Once you go through, you basically feel like you're in one of the ancient alleys of China - decor is 1000% great. We had a larger party of 7, and they were luckily able to accommodate us since we lined up a few minutes before opening on a Friday. We actually got IMO the best seats in the house - towards the back, elevated up on some steps, a mini pavilion essentially. But enough about the decor.. how was the food? Well.. GREAT! And honestly, for NYC prices, not too expensive (but a bit pricy for flushing I guess). The quality was top notch (highly recommend trying the mala quail eggs) and the spice of the broth was GREAT! We went with medium since our server (amazing btw, thank you Sean / Shawn / Shaun??) said that he can't even go near hot, it burns his eyes. Medium was just perfect - felt great eating it with some sweats, regretted it the day after, which means I couldn't have asked for a better experience! Meats were good quality, veggies were yummy. I wish the shrimp paste had more in terms of quantity, we barely had seven bites for each of us, but it was really good. Also, pro tip, probably don't order Napa Cabbage, a lot of their other dishes will sit on top of a whole leaf, so you'll probably get enough from that unless you want to consume half a head. Sauce bar is $2 a person - which might be shocking for some to know they charge it, but it's pretty much the norm at a higher end hot pot place in big cities. At least they don't charge $6-$8 like some places and only throw in a few apps/desserts to try to justify it. Overall, really loved this place, and would definitely go back.

I've never had them like that before anywhere, so it's definitely a chefs special. They were made crispy on the outside but soft and flavorful on the inside. Highly recommend. All the other dishes were also fantastic. Portions are also great, we ended up taking lots home. They gave us free dessert jellies which is also a classic Sichuan dessert; they also had a deal where you get free drinks if you order a certain amount of food, so we got two free drinks. I would have given a five star if not for the super long wait. Granted we did go for Christmas Day dinner. We saw them having to turn away lots of customers. They are super popular. Main issue is there isn't a number system, so getting a table felt a bit random; we considered ourselves lucky. Our servers were very friendly and nice. They told us it would be a bit of a wait, but this was the longest I've ever waited for food: 45 min before the first dish was served. We ordered 5 dishes with rice (forgot to take pictures of two of them). I wasn't told one of the dishes I ordered wasn't available until 30 min after I placed my order. But when the food did come, they all can't together so we didn't have to keep waiting. The servers were also attentive after despite how busy and clearly overwhelmed they were, which was really nice. In conclusion, great food with good portions for spice lovers. Very nice servers and try not to go on Christmas Day since it can get really busy.
