The House Soup Dumplings with Classic Pork were fairly standard and ultimately underwhelming. The dumpling wrappers were too thick and doughy, and they tore apart too easily. The soup broth itself lacked the richness and umami depth that make great soup dumplings memorable. I was also disappointed that no fresh ginger was provided, nor did I see it offered. Traditionally, soup dumplings are enjoyed with fresh ginger and a vinegar-soy sauce mixture, often served on a soup spoon to catch the flavorful broth. That said, the House Special Beef Roll was the standout of the meal. Each roll features a crispy, flaky scallion pancake wrapped around tender five-spice braised beef shank, sweet hoisin sauce, and crisp, refreshing vegetables. The beef was slow-braised until exceptionally tender and infused with warm Chinese five-spice and soy sauce. The combination of savory, sweet, and salty flavors created a satisfying and flavorful bite. Many diners seem to enjoy the soup dumplings more than I did, so your experience may differ. However, I would recommend ordering an additional dish or appetizer if you choose them, as they are not particularly filling on their own. Be aware that the cost can add up quickly. An order of soup dumplings and the beef roll, including tip, came to about $42.
Had no problem getting a table during lunchtime on a Friday. They have a good amount of seating. But I'm sure it gets busy during dinner, especially this being a "newer" dim sum spot. Ordered the green beans, which had good flavor but a bit salty. The wontons came with a lot of chili oil, which I enjoyed. However, there was a mountain of cilantro with green onions and garlic. I felt bad because my friend doesn't eat cilantro so she could barely eat it. If only we knew that having been written on the menu, we probably would've asked to remove it The Shanghai noodles were good. I liked their thickness as well as the sliced vegetables with it. The pork that came with it was a bit overcooked. The pork XLBs were fine. I was more thrown off by the sweet soy sauce & vinegar we were supposed to dip it in. First off, they only gave us one of those sauces, and we had to ask for another one as there were two of us eating. Secondly, the sauce was sweet, which is very unusual for a XLB dipping sauce. Not sure if they were trying to be different but that caught us off guard. Lastly, we ended with the chocolate and mochi XLB, which tasted exactly like Din Tai Fung's, so we were definitely pleased with that. The staff were really nice. May have asked if we were doing OK 4 more times than was necessary, but I just liked to be left alone eating lol. I'd come again and mix the order up for sure.
Finally got to try this cute little dumpling spot. Service was great from the moment we walked in and the staff checked on us several times throughout our meal. Food came out quickly even though the restaurant was busy. We tried the fried rice, noodles, spicy dumplings, soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, bok choy, and beef rolls. The beef rolls were definitely our favorite item. Unfortunately, most of the food lacked flavor for us. The noodles were overly chewy and the garlic bok choy tasted more like thickened sauce with chunks of garlic added in rather than a well developed garlic flavor. Overall, the atmosphere and service were great, but the food was a bit underwhelming if you are used to more traditional and flavorful dumplings. I would also like to add that my friend did enjoy her food however she does like things that are not so spiced.
I was really excited to try Dumpling U and was not disappointed. My favorite dish of the meal was easily the beef roll. It was amazing. The meat inside was so tender and the veggies added the perfect balance of freshness. The noodles were thick and flavorful. The soup dumplings were also very good and fun to eat. The place is really busy so it does take a while to get seated and get your order taken. The place itself looks very clean and calm.
We have been wanting to try Dumpling U ever since they opened recently and were honestly impressed with how quick and satisfying the whole experience was. All of our food came out within about 5 minutes of ordering, which was impressive given how much we had ordered. We ordered a mix of dishes to try a little bit of everything. The House Special Beef Roll was a standout, crispy with a really nice beef-forward flavor that made it super satisfying and how I remember it tasting growing up. The classic Pork Soup Dumplings were decent, though the wrapper was a bit on the thicker side, and I felt like the pork filling could've used a little more seasoning to really enhance the flavor. The Pan-Fried Pork Buns were great, and I appreciated the heads-up from the staff that they come out piping hot and can squirt juice if you bite in too fast (they weren't kidding). Even better, they held up surprisingly well when reheated the next day. We also got the Dry Fried String Beans, which were super fragrant and flavorful, though just slightly on the salty side. The Honey Walnut Shrimp had huge pieces of shrimp with an extra crunchy coating, definitely a must order. And of course, can't go wrong with a side of white rice to have as a base for all our dishes. Overall, a great spot with fast service and a good variety of dishes. I'd definitely come back again and would recommend to anyone wanting to have authentic Chinese food.
Walked in and felt like I was in the Bay Area--simple modern interior, clean and bright. Loved being able to watch the dumplings get made by hand. Food was really good--best soup dumplings I've found in Fresno. Favorite dish was the spicy wontons. The scallion pancakes were very thin and crispy. I liked how they used udon noodles for the garlic noodle dish although I felt like the dish needed some veggies. Great looking menu with many things to go back and try. Service was friendly and easy going and extremely fast. Great if you are in a hurry but still want to sit down. Paid the bill at the counter and had to wait awhile for people placing to go orders. Plan accordingly.
We went back during 'opening day'' to dine in. This is what we ordered; Honey Walnut Shrimp- very tasty! Wonton Soup- Pork wontons in a small amount of pork broth. I prefer chicken broth with LOTS of vegetables. This bowl had one or two pieces of seaweed in it. . . Eh. Har Gow; - Very good. The thinnest noodle I have seen YET for Har Gow! It had 'pin-tuck pleats' of noodle on top! (HOW do they DO that)?! Shrimp Fried rice- Delicious! Has a nice smoky (wok hei) flavor to it! Taro ice cream- Also delicious! I like their decor, dishes, blue and white condiment trays, staff and side room seating. But the combination of HYPER techno/rap music that was loudly playing, WRECKED THE ENVIRONMENT! I was looking at weary customers coming in from working all day, and small families just trying to have a peaceful meal. It's hard to have a conversation and relax when intrusive music is pounding your head. . . My question always is; is this music for the staff in the back? Or the customers in front? Next time will be takeout.
I really wanted to like Dumpling U. With all the hype, I guess I had pretty high expectations. We went on a Saturday evening and were seated quickly. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We ordered two baskets of the pork soup dumplings, cucumber salad, chicken fried rice, sichuan won tons then ordered the strawberry crepe cake, strawberry mochi ice cream, and custard buns for dessert. Pork Soup Dumplings: 7/10, they were good but not the best. The flavor seemed off, I don't know how to describe it. Cucumber Salad: 3/10, the cucumber had an odd texture and tasted like watermelon rind. The sauce and spice level were nice. Chicken Fried Rice: 6/10, it seemed oily and had an odd aftertaste. Sichuan Style Wontons: 8/10, I liked these the most but they still had an odd flavor, same as the soup dumplings. All of the desserts were good. Crepe Cake: 8/10, very light. Tasted like strawberry ice cream. Strawberry Mochi Ice Cream: This came on a plate with two mochis cut in half. I didn't have any but my son said they were yummy. Custard Buns: 9/10, these caught us off guard because they are custard but tasted like coconut. I do recommend these because they are fun for the kiddos. By the time we were finished up eating, the place was pretty packed and got a bit warm and loud. I might give them another try in a few months to see if anything has changed with the Yelp feedback.
Dumplings seem to be the new hot food in Fresno! We drove by this place for a couple of weeks before finally stopping by. The inside is pretty small, but nicely decorated. We came by on a weekday around 6pm and were seated immediately as a party of 4. The place filled up quickly and it was a full house by 7pm. Our server was nice and attentive. The menu was a good size with a variety of items. We decided to order the Shanghai noodles, green beans, sichuan spicy wontons, pork soup dumplings, spicy pork dumplings, and braised beef noodle soup. Everything looked great, but unfortunately, nothing stood out. It all just tasted okay. The biggest disappointments were the Shanghai noodles and the soup dumplings. The noodles were completely bland and the soup dumplings may or may not have been undercooked. The pork was pretty pink and turned us off. The best item for me was the sichuan spicy wontons. They had decent flavor and were cooked well. Overall, I'm not sure we'd be back. They did still have signs up that they were in a soft opening phase so I may come back for another go to see if they've sorted everything out.
Dumpling U is the new hotness! My husband and I came around 630 on Saturday and the restaurant was packed! We had to wait about 45 minutes before seated. Pro-tip for the future is to join the wait-list on Yelp ahead of time. Dumpling U is a small chain and we're so thrilled to have another noodle and dumpling option in Fresno. For just the 2 of us, we ordered seafood Shanghai noodle, chili wontons, and crab/pork xiao long bao. Everything was really tasty, with my favorite being the Shanghai noodle. Part of it is nostalgia for me-- that fat noodle well-flavored with that perfect soy sauce color and fresh seafood (bay scallops, shrimp, and squid). The chili wontons were a close second, filled with pork and shrimp and drenched in chili oil. The XLB was a bit lacking in crab flavor and also has a thicker wrapping than usual. If you let sit for too long (like 10-15 minutes), the wrapper dries out a bit. Stellar food! Tasty and can't wait to come back!
I decided to try the new restaurant after hearing great things about their beef rolls. The pork soup dumplings, however, were a bit disappointing. The dough was undercooked in spots, still white even after steaming. I'd suggest skipping the spicy pork soup dumplings--they tasted like raw gochugaru (Korean chili flakes) was added directly to the pork filling, which was a bit overwhelming. The Shanghai noodles also missed the mark. The dish was dominated by pepper--either black or white--and came out very spicy. The pepper aroma was so strong it overpowered everything else. On the brighter side, I spoke to neighboring tables, and many enjoyed the fried rice and buns. Service was attentive, and there can sometimes be a wait for seating, so make sure to sign in on the waitlist. Parking is limited, so I'd recommend carpooling or being patient while searching for a spot. Overall, some hits and some misses, but there are a few standout dishes worth trying.
Love me some dumplings so let's get into it. We had reservations at 6:45 and seated promptly! Service was very good and they were pretty busy. They also have reservations available through yelp which is convenient and you're able to view how many people are ahead of you. They have people making the dumplings there and it's a cute experience. Something that Fresno does not have, and truly needs. As for the food. We got the *garlic noodles* usually I am all about salt but this was too salty. I would try another noodle dish next time. However, their noodles are thick and very good. *spicy pork soup dumplings* lacked flavor and was expecting more spice. Even adding the spicy chili sauce they have on the side still was not enough * Sichuan style wonton* I could probably eat these all day everyday lol. Pretty flavorful and tasted fresh! Highly recommend these. They were not spicy. *beef roll* also another really good dish, similar taste to bahn mi just wrapped in a flaky scallion pancake. Get these and share them. Music inside was vibey and the overall atmosphere was chatty and had good energy. There are some things to work out with in terms of flavor, but I recommend this place and see for yourself. read more
4- Checked out U Dumpling during their soft opening today and had a good experience. The food was fresh and the staff was welcoming despite just opening. I liked that you are able to make reservations on YELP App. The crowd came in right when they opened too. There were minor things--tan tan noodle (super salty and too much oil at the bottom of bowl and not mentioning about pork on menu), but definitely a solid new addition to the neighborhood--I'll be back to try other dishes. read more
Incredibly excited to have visited tonight. We were on our way to a local dumpling house and saw the soft opening sign while driving past. We quickly flipped around and ran in to ask if they were open and if open to the public. They immediately sat our party of 3, brought water and took drink orders. Our knowledgeable dumpling super expert was Jasper and we are so happy that we sat in that section because the service was incomparable. Every wait staff there was kind and attentive. Let me say- start with no more than 4 items, we went a bit over board as our excitement grew in each discovery of their menu items and we definitely had food to take home. The restaurant itself was cool, yet warm and inviting. Love the decor and I would be remiss if i omit, there is a viewing window to watch as dumplings are rolled, stuffed, and formed- which was beyond cool. read more

The food in general was very bland. I was expecting more, there was a line outside of people waiting to get in. Service was fine, the manager checking in on us towards the end of our meal was much better than our waitress. She didn't have any recommendations of her own aside from what was already marked as favorites on their menu. The ambiance is very casual and kind of loud. I personally won't be going back. I paid $85 for 3 people, which 1 of us was a 10 year old. She was the only one that liked the food. The 2 adults stopped eating after tasting the food. The only thing that was tasty was the House Special Beef Roll. The pork soup dumplings were disgusting and I am open to trying everything at least once. The chicken shumai had no flavor. The Shanghai fried noodles were not bad, but still not my taste. read more

Finally tried Dumpling U --everything from the spicy pork soup dumplings to the honey walnut shrimp was good. We also ordered the string beans, Shanghai chow mein, pork shrimp soup dumplings, char shiu bao, and crab rangoon (yes... we went all in ). Loved how you can watch them make the dumplings fresh right in front of you, and the staff + space made it such a nice, cozy night. The flavors leaned more on the subtle side rather than bold or overpowering, but I'd definitely come back to explore more of the menu. Overall, it was a good experience. The place was probably a little over half packed when we came in, but service was speedy and friendly. It's a great spot to go with friends, family, date or solo. read more
Not bad!! Service is slow but they're all trying their best because this place is busyyyy. Wait time for two on a Friday night was about 30 minutes. We got the pork xlb, pan fried pork buns, dan dan noodles, and Sichuan style wontons. Overall not bad! The pork xlb was a bit salty and the wrappers were a little thicker than I'd usually like but they were juicy! Also, if you want ginger for your sauces you're going to have to ask. Pan fried pork buns were solid but would've been way better if they were fried for longer!!! I was really missing the crispy bottom. Dan Dan noodles were were a solid texture but the meat sauce was a little too sweet and lacking in the mala tingling spicy flavor. Sichuan style wontons were silky and were our favorite. read more

Love how when you walk in you see them preparing dumplings. Seating was nice, there's always a wait. The restaurant itself is kind of smaller than most but looks good, I like their seating with the cushions on the bench. Alright as for the food, I was disappointed. I've never taken that much left overs home from a dumpling place. Prices and kinda high. We ordered the green beans, absolutely delicious get them. The TAN TAN noodles weren't bad but they also weren't mind blowing. Every sauce that was on our food literally tasted the same, an oily chili sauce with no spice whatsoever. I mean taste isn't bad it's just everything tasted the same literally, just different foods. Spicy wontons, a flop. Spicy and regular pork XLB was gross. The broth in it was weird didn't like it. Spicy is nonexistent. Shanghai wonton soup scary, little baby white shrimps floating all over and broth wasn't soothing it's was just a burst of flavor like a wonton soup you never had haha I didn't taste bad it was just different not my favorite. Pan fried pork dumplings, meatball inside looks suspicious. Like the skin on them how it was as thick but didn't really come out with a crispy bottom. Cucumber is great, super garlicky love that. Crepe cake, nothing fancy taste store bought, no razzle dazzle just layered cake with a light matcha whip filling. Maybe it's the stuff we ordered but this is what we would usually order at other dumpling places.... Kinda disappointing. Not worth the hype to me. Jingle bao was better. Good experience at Dumpling U. Food came out super quick. Soup dumplings were fresh but not a fan of the crab flavor. Tan tan noodles were good, just wished they were spicier. Scallion pancakes were great. The place itself has really good vibes though--very bright and full of light, which I really liked. Came on a Friday evening and didn't have to wait. Was greeted and taken to our table. Seated along the wall, they have cushion seats and sauce options like , chili oil, soy sauce, and vinegar. The order: I got a bit of everything. Starting off with the beef rolls, a pretty generous amount of shredded braised meat inside with cucumber wrapped in this crepe-like wrap that's slightly crispy. Super filling dish and comes in 4 rolls. The honey walnut shrimp is a must order item, probably the biggest shrimp I've seen used for this dish. Tastes exactly like how honey walnut shrimp should taste like, beautifully fried, that's sweet and savory. I loved the Jajang noodles! Noodle doneness was perfect, the ground beef and cucumber were not overly salty, my daughter's fav dish. I also got the pans fried pork dumpling. It's steamed and fried well. Not burnt at all on the bottom, soft on top and has pork and vermicelli noodle filling. I dipped it with some sauce soy and chili oil, super delicious. Finally, the cute pork custard buns have a rich custard center that's sweet and the bun itself was soft and moist. Will order this again for sure and it makes my daughter happy cause it's so cute. Staff were attentive and friendly. Not a huge restaurant but adequate space for a lot of customers to dine in. Tables are busted down and cleaned quickly, and they have a tidy restroom for guests. Everything was fresh and good. They have different takes on crunchy shrimp balls and garlic noodles. Like them but I don't know if I like them better than traditional styles. Wait time for to go orders was 25 mins not too long but expected as they were busy. The restaurant is nice and clean with an open atmosphere and really enjoy watching the ladies filling the soup dumplings. They were filled with plenty of broth and filling! Best dumplings ever, we had two orders of the spicy pork dumplings and they were soooo delicious. The broth was so flavorful. Also had the honey walnut shrimp, seafood noodles, and spicy wontons. 10/10 food and service. We had a super duper nice server with the most beautiful skin lol! As soon as we entered we were seated, comfortable seats although a smaller restaurant it is so worth it for the peaceful vibes and privacy you get with your family. One of the new dumpling spots to hit Fresno! I came by on a Friday around 1:30 pm, an hour before they would close their lunch section. I was worried we would feel rushed on time, but we were seated right away and service was very timely, leaving my party more than enough time to eat and socialize. Seeing as they advertised themselves as a soup dumpling shop, I had to get the classic pork house soup dumplings, which came with a good amount of meat and rich broth. I feel like it is less broth than I have had in other soup dumplings, but it still tasted very flavorful! I also got the house special beef rolls, with had braised, slightly-sweet thin beef slices wrapped in a flaky scallion pancake. I wasn't originally expected to get this, but I'm another table order because it looked too good to pass up, and my expectations were exceeded! I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for some great dumplings in Fresno! read more

Inefficient servers. There were 9 empty tables but a 30-40 minute wait time. The tables took forever to be cleaned, all the while 3 female servers were standing around chatting about their weekend. Food is good but service is TERRIBLE. We kept asking if we could just be seated at one of the empty tables but they kept saying they were working on "setting up the tables". All the while still standing around chatting and laughing. There were 25 people standing out the door waiting to be seated all the while all the servers had no sense of rush/urgency. Management should be informed and work on training on efficiency and customer service read more

Small wait & greeted. Let him know and it was ready. Paid for it, order handed over and wished a good day leaving! Lunchtime! Veggie Spring Rolls are GREAT! Walked in the place is cute as heck with their signs and people making dumplings right in front of you. I saw it being built and I was excited the wait was supposed to be 17-25 minutes however it took us about 45 to be seated. I wouldn't have waited had I known. I know it's new so hopefully that is something they will get better on. We tried 4 menu items 1. The fried chicken dumplings which I give a 5/10 they were good. The sauce saved them. 2. Pork soup dumplings 1/10 they were not only gross but I bit into hard stuff in my meat which is a HUGE turnoff. 3. Sausage fried rice 6/10 pretty good. The sausage was yummy. 4. The seared bottom pork bao 10/10 this was the only thing I actually liked. They were amazing. I might pop in and grab these to go from time to time. Everyone seemed stressed which is fair for a soft opening. Had it been around for awhile I would have only rated a 2 but for being new they get some points back for doing their best. I hope they get better all around by the next time I give them a try. read more

I'd say this place is decent for Fresno. The beef rolls were the highlight for me flavorful, well cooked, and the best thing we ordered. The dumplings were okay, but the wrapper was thicker than I prefer, which threw off the texture a bit. The spicy wontons weren't spicy at all -- it tasted more like chili oil drizzled on top rather than any real heat or depth of spice. Service was fine and the space was clean and casual, but comfortable enough. I'll be honest: I'm a big foodie and have eaten a lot in Southern California, so my expectations might be higher than average, which makes it hard to give a totally fair comparison. read more

Tried Dumpling U for the first time and really enjoyed the experience. The Wonton Soup was light but full of flavor, with tender wontons and a clean, comforting broth. The House Special Beef Roll was a standout--crispy on the outside, soft inside, and packed with savory beef. The Braised Beef Noodle Soup was hearty and satisfying, with rich broth, perfectly cooked noodles, and beef that was super tender and flavorful. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared. Tried this place and everything is tasting great! I am so glad they have pan fried soup bun. I don't have to travel to bay area just to get my cravings. The Xiao Long Bao (dumplings) is cooked fresh. The meat is tender, flavorful, juicy and perfect size. My hubby ordered the braised pork belly with rice and he finished it all. The beef roll is rolled beef, cucumber and scallion pancake. Its flaky and full of flavor. Matcha crepe is also yummy like Lady M cake. We got the chrysanthemum tea, they use tea flower not those tea bags. Customer service is great. Eventhough they are busy, waiter/waitress do check up on us. We will definitely come back and try other food. I do hope they continue to thrive. read more

Everything was delicious. Unfortunately I was traveling, so it was a party of one and an extensive menu where I really wanted to try a bunch of things. I ordered, knowing I would have leftovers which I was pretty excited about as well. Started with the pork soup dumplings, Sichuan style wonton dumplings (spicy) and garlic noodles. It was definitely a lot of food, but glad I was able to taste several different dishes. The soup dumplings had a good amount of soup in them. There's even instructions if you don't know how to eat them. You can even see them, make it by hand. Garlic noodles were a huge portion, love that the noodles were not super soft and had a good bite to them. And lastly the spicy wonton dumplings topped off the meal. Such great food I recommend braised beef noodle soup spicy it was a big size, shared with me and my boyfriend. Great and clean place. 10/10 food, customer service great as well, the waiter Jocelyn was so great, it was our first time and she talked with us about everything in the menu and didn't mind our question. :) read more
