We are driving back to Nashville from Memphis and pulled over and found this gem . All the food was AMAZING! Grilled chicken salad to the Mr Buddies roast beef plate. Our waitress Jennifer O was awesome and so sweet. She gave us a sample of the chicken and dumplings. She recommended the Strawberry Cake and let me tell you it was FANTASTIC!! I am long overdue in writing this review but here it goes. I found this gem of a spot while traveling from Nashville to Memphis in October of 2019. Of course you walk in and see a huge assortment of amazing cakes/desserts that you can buy whole or by the slice. I wasn't feeling so good so I ordered a cup of chicken soup as well as the chicken and dumplings. The chicken soup was to die for. It is like no other I have had. It was thick and creamy. If I could order it online and have it shipped to the east coast I would. The chicken and dumplings were good too! My mom ordered a cup of broccoli cheddar soup which she saiid was a little thick for her liking but tasted good. She also had the quiche which she loved. So let me tell you we loved this place so much that on our return trip a week later we stopped again. I had the chicken soup again. I told you it is that GOOD! My mom had a veggie plate. We both had dessert. She had the chocolate pie which was a lot of chocolate for her. I was kind of surprise she ordered it since she is not a big chocolate person. I had the coconut cake which was AMAZING! The service was good but considering they were not busy either time it would have been nice for the wait staff to check with us a little more often. However, on the return trip we had the sweetest waitress with the sweetest accent and personality. If you are EVER in the area make a stop at this awesome bistro and bakery. I wanted to like this place but honestly the food was just ok. I had a baked pork chop and it had the texture of a braised chop. It literally fell off the bone with a touch of my fork. The plus was the rolls and the strawberry butter. I also had a slice of cake that was really good. My sides were a potato casserole that was good but a little salty and generic green beans. Dumpin's has always been a favorite due to their delicious rolls and desserts. But now that they are under new ownership, the service is twice as good (& fast!) and the food is even tastier! I've noticed a few new items to the menu...some being their assortment of salads...try the goat cheese salad loaded with fruit! It is definitely a new favorite of mine. Ordered delivery while staying in a Jackson hotel. Delivery came within 40 minutes. I had the eggplant parmesan. It came with a small salad and a roll with strawberry honey butter. The salad was fresh and good as was the roll and strawberry honey butter. The eggplant parmesan was greasy and salty. My husband had the chicken bacon wrap. For dessert we ordered a piece if strawberry cake and an apple dumplin. Surprisingly the apples were hard. Overall we wouldn't order again. The total was $60. read more

Traveling all over the US, I seek out local non-chain restaurants. This place was a great find for Jackson and a must try! It was packed with patrons by 11:30 on a Tuesday when I visited and obviously a local favorite. The food had a healthy and home cooked feel which is a rare find for West Tennessee that usually only has fried country food buffets, Mexican, Chinese, BBQ, pizza, and fast food. Received a warm greeting at the door from a hostess and had a server who was friendly, attentive, and excited about the menu. The owner also made his way around the room to visit each table and had a genuine greeting for everyone not the typical "how was everything". The location was tucked into a higher end boutique retail center and struck me as a great getaway place for lunch with your favorite co-workers, your friends, or your spouse. There was even a large private back room where it appears group lunches could be held. Of course I had to try the cake before I left after walking by the case when I came in. I totally ruined my healthy lunch with a big slice of fresh strawberry cake and coffee. You could taste that it was made on premises and I confirmed it with my server. It was so good I bought two whole cakes to take on the road with me for house warming gifts when I arrived at my final destination from my road trip and neither one lasted very long. Ate a nice lunch here about 15 months ago, but this week, it was terrible. Had same menu item, quiche of the day with Caesar salad. It was not typical Caesar. Had shredded mozzarella with lettuce that was mostly the white core and lettuce that was past the use date since it was slimy on edges. Not even sure that the lettuce was Romaine. Dressing was in little container and was probably Caesar. Could not eat it. First there was the tea. My friend and I ordered unsweet tea as we do when we have lunch once a week. It was cloudy and had a peculiar taste. We asked waitress if it was instant tea. She said it came out of the faucet. So I assume she is too young and/or uninformed to know what instant tea is or how tea is made. I asked for sweet tea since another friend had sweet tea and it looked normal. I drink sweet tea from time to time, but this was beyond sweet. So sweet, I did not order dessert. One friend ordered caramel cake and insisted I have a bite. Icing seemed more like Play-doh than icing. read more

On road trip home with 2 young children and a grandma not up to par.. Dumplins Bistro was the perfect place to stop for a late lunch. The restaurant was decorated very nice and played nice soft piano rock background music. Would have loved to stayed for a glass of wine. Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating to us. We ordered the Monday Special, Poppy seed chicken casserole which came with your choice for sides. It was Delicious and perfect on a rainy travel day . My grandson said his pizza was the best and it came with a nice serving of fresh fruit. I'll never go back. We went there add s family for my mother's Birthday. The 'Chicken and dressing' was recommended by the wait staff. When our food arrived, all of the portions looked as if they had been 'scooped' (like a small ice cream scoop) and plopped on a plate that dwarfed the food. I was told that this locally owned restaurant was good. The food was OK but nothing special. The apple dumpling desert was not good at all.

So, I did not try the desserts and cannot speak to them. But the green beans where not correctly dipped (tons of liquid from them running all over the roast beef w/rice and the sweet potato casserole). This salty "green-bean-juice" cheapened the taste of the savory roast beef gravy and ruined the taste and texture of the sweet potato casserole. A slotted spoon and/or five seconds of dripping or serving them in a seperate bowl would have prevented the problem. Just carelessness in service that cost a star in the review. read more

My wife and I ate at Dumplin's in Jackson this week for the first time in a very long time - and we quickly remembered 'the negatives' that had kept us away!! First of all, the floor was absolutely filthy - food and scraps of paper everywhere. The service, which once was good in this cafe, was pretty bad. While we were waiting to be served, our waitress was setting the table next to us. She dropped a set of napkin-wrapped silverware in the floor - in one of the dirtiest areas --- and just picked it up and placed it on top of the bread plates she had set on the table!! Yes, the silverware had been protected, but the napkin that the next diner would use had rolled across that nasty floor!! Oh, yes - the tablecloth on our table had food and lipstick stains on it. Yes, there is glass on top of the table cloth, but it is pretty unappetizing to look down and see such stains next to your hands and napkin. The rolls, which once were a very strong point here, were stale and had very little taste. As always, the food seemed to have come right out of a microwave. AND - the little fresh flowers that once graced the tables have been replaced by cheap artificial flowers. Dumplin's has changed ownership a couple of times over recent years, and it seems to deteriorate a bit more with each change. Quite a number of good places to eat are located in Jackson - and we do not plan to return to Dumplin's any time soon - if ever!!! read more
