a variety of doughnuts on display

There are not too many Dunkin' restaurants in Southern California so it was a surprise to see this one in La Jolla, near the Village area. We stopped in and there was only one person working behind the counter and she was busy with people ordering donuts, coffee and such. We waited patiently and ordered a coffee for my husband. Same consistent flavor here as well as on the East Coast.

This Dunkin location is really clean and customer service is good. I love that they have a self-service order kiosk because I was able to take my time looking at all my options and it also let me customize pretty much everything about my drink. I paid 99 cents for oatmilk which is absolutely ridiculous, but my coffee was enjoyable. It was close to the beach so I was able to enjoy my coffee with an oceanview.

After being sat on the patio and before ordering, we checked out all the merch inside, an explosion of color and sparkle. The indoor seating is a room of inviting, plush, forest green chairs and the walls dripping in white and blush pink flowers. The quote "Cooking is my soul's desire, eating is my heart's calling" catches your eye on the north wall. One of my friend's and I decided to order 2 entrees and split them - the Spicy Shakshuka Sunrise Skillet (2 eggs poached with fire-roasted tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, fresno pepper, cilantro, yellow onion, feta, harissa, cumin, chili flakes, and sourdough bread) and the Windansea Breakfast Bagel (with scrambled egg whites, Irish cheddar, sauteed garlic spinach, and avocado on a Big City everything bagel). That was a smart call because both were amazing and re-orderable. The shakshuka was flavorful but not intolerable spicy hot. The bagel made the sammich. All was washed down with a Cafe Viennese (coffee with honey, cinnamon, and vanilla, a great sub for my usual Cinnamon Dolce Latte from Starbies). The service was great and engaging and not a hustle for us to churn and burn our meal. Would love to return and indulge in some of the retail in addition to some pancake or waffles. I only had 1 bite of the single fluffy pancake that my other girlfriend ordered...quite the tease.

Farmers' markets bring me absolute joy and this is one of the very best we've been to! It's huge…read moreand spacious, organized and there were so many vendors around! From delicious food, to fresh produce, to the most gorgeous and vibrant flowers, to beautiful pottery, to unique clothes... you name it, they have it there! Make sure to come early as parking can be a bit tricky, especially if you want to park closer to the farmers' market. Once you get parked though, everything is a breeze. They even have tables and chairs around for people to eat at. There's also a playground for families who have little ones! I could never go to a farmers' market and leave without fresh flowers, so of course I had to pick up some from Hidalgo Flowers. They always have the most colorful and stunning arrangements, and for a decent price too. This time, I got a bunch with the prettiest sunflowers. We also picked up the sweetest and reddest strawberries from this one vendor. I highly regret not getting their name, but I will definitely be on the hunt for them the minute we go back. We got a cup of strawberries with some dark chocolate sauce from Strawberries and Chocolate. That was sooo good! We devoured it so quickly, we didn't even get to take a picture of it. One of the standouts for me was the Pork Sisig Rice from Baryo Eats. It was AHHHHMAZING!! It's the best kind of pork sisig that I love to eat--the taste was so good and nostalgic, it took me back to my college days back in the Philippines! HIGHLY RECOMMEND. We also got some Paella from Driana Catering/Taste of Spain. It was so flavorful and the rice was cooked to perfection. We were just sad they ran out of shrimp by the time we got some, so we were left with chicken only. We got some goodies from It's Cafe Thai as well--Milk Tea with Boba, Taro Thai Coffee, and the Mango Sticky Rice. All of them had just the right amount of sweetness and hit the spot for us. Lastly, we had some of the watermelon and the cucumber lemonade refreshers, and the chicken and pork tamales from Gourmet Tamales. They were so good, we even took some home for later! Overall, I'm already looking forward to the next Sunday we can stop by this farmers' market!

I made tuna salad with celery and onions. Well have grilled veg with dinner. Magical berries all day. The special grilled cheese with gruyere, honey, mustard and all the other little meals il weave my Ja Jolla open air marked finds - incredible. Then, all the things I didn't buy because they wouldn't have survived in the car. Salad. Flowers. Tomatoes. All beautiful.

The kouign amann had an interesting burnt caramelized crunch on top. The croissant didn't have a very strong pistachio or strawberry flavor, but the texture was decent. My favorite pastry was the peach and vanilla tile, as the peaches were sweet and refreshing and complemented the vanilla well.

He would have given it a better rating if the bacon was in little pieces, making it easier to eat in the omelette. *Stuffed French toast - 4/5 - the photos we saw made it look like it was stuffed with some sort of cream but it's actually stuffed with strawberries. DRINKS: Iced matcha with almond milk - nothing special, I wouldn't recommend. The server was informative that the matcha was pre-made with sweetener but it still didn't take how I expected. Coffee- they kept my husbands cup full and even left the canteen of coffee. Very nice! For parking, it's street parking only and we were lucky to have gotten a spot down the street. Vibes were beachy but the outside decor could have been spruced up a bit compared to Sugar & Scribe. Overall, I'm glad we finally checked it out. I would say it has some stiff competition with Sugar & Scribe on the sweet dishes but for the savory dishes, I really enjoyed my roasted veggie omelette.

Linda's Donut Shop is one of only a few businesses in this small plaza, of which one is a pretty popular taco shop. Just a few shared parking spaces were available so it could get tricky depending on the time of the day. The operating hours were limited to the morning except on weekends when the shop closes at 1 pm. I arrived shortly before noon which meant a good chunk of the daily inventory had already been sold out. That included all of the jelly filled varieties which was one type that I really wanted to try. Those sold for $2.50 each while the frosted and plain cake choices were $2.25 apiece. A half dozen would set you back $13 and a full dozen cost $23. I sure miss the days when one could purchase a dozen for less than ten dollars! My picks were a plain glazed bar, chocolate glazed, and a strawberry glazed topped with rainbow sprinkles. Each one was pillowy soft and still fairly fresh. The best one was the plain bar for its simplicity. I am not sure that they were worth $2+ a pop though. I was happy to support a local business, however there are many more choices of donut purveyors nowadays so it's unlikely I will return here.
