Get here early if you want their full selection! I stopped by around 1030a on Sunday and they were almost sold out. Thankfully I was able to snag a cannoli, a filled maple glaze, and a blueberry cake. I thought the cannoli was awesome. Chocolate glazed with crunchy cannoli shell pieces on top and a rich ricotta filling. I enjoyed all the donuts though. I hope to come back and try some other special flavors! read more

Total mom and pop kind of place. Stopped in and saw a table of old guys just hanging out with their coffee and donuts. The gal behind the counter was quick to ask for my order. But being a new customer, I needed some explanation. She went over what was in the case. I ordered two donuts. I couldn't believe how cheap! $2 each. Wow. She bagged each one up separately One of my donuts fell on the floor, but stayed in its bag. She offered to give me a new one but I declined. I thought that was a nice gesture though. It's just a donut- it wasn't messed up. Plenty of parking to be able to just get in and get out. Not a fancy place by any means. But the cronut was delicious. read more

This is my second time coming here and their donuts are amazing. So fluffy, light, and the flavors are just chefs kiss. The line was out the door during both of my trips here - worth the wait! Not only are their donuts delicious, their staff is efficient and provide great service. If you are in Santa Cruz, be sure to try the medium roast coffee. Staff was super sweet and accommodating. Service was fast even though the shop was busy. Came here while in Santa Cruz. It was rated top 10 so I had to see and they deserve be in top 10! They have an variety of yeast and cake style doughnut's which are good. If you haven't had the opportunity to enjoy a cronut from Dunlap's then you are missing out! I love donuts and when I say that I mean real donuts not the trash you get at a Krispy Kreme. I happily drive from San Jose regularly to pick up a box. I recommend you try the Cronuts and the various filled donuts they offer. The staff is very friendly and the have a wide selection to choose from. read more

We were in the complex and really wanted a treat. I maybe get a donut once a year because I just crave the nostalgia of it, but I generally walk away disappointed. I love this place. My wife and I have been coming here for years. We've grown very fond of the owner, Allie. They have delicious breakfast sandwiches. I had a bacon, egg and cheese on a croissants. My brother found this place on Yelp during our trip to Santa Cruz. He woke up at 6am to grab the family some donuts and was hoping for some of the specialty flavors we've seen on Yelp like ube or red velvet. I asked for a cronut. Unfortunately they don't have any vegan/gluten free options. He got the cronut, old fashioned blueberry, sprinkles, animal cracker, and Samoa. They look like your basic donut but man when you bite into them, they are so fluffy!! I was impressed or I was super hungry but I think I was more impressed. Everyone on my IG was telling me how much they love their donuts! Not only are the toppings and flavors different but I think it's the texture of the dough. I'm a blueberry old fashioned fan and I think it was pretty basic as well as the cronut, it's worth a try but I would for sure get a specialty donut because of the dough and texture. My 4 year old nephew loved the sprinkles and we shared the animal cracker one, the ratio of toppings and dough was good. I really liked that and the Samoa one. Would definitely recommend if you're in the Santa Cruz/Capitola area for some good ol donuts and cronuts! read more

Best donuts I've had in a long time. They have many options from specialty to traditional treats. Staff was very friendly and limited the amount of people in the shop at once. This shop is so cute and the staff are friendly. Donut selection was good even at 9am. The prices are cheap enough I got a small coffee and donut for 3.50 I think. And the donut was probably one of the best I've ever had. It was delicious! There are also lots of cute shops in the surrounding area so worth jumping off the freeway for a pit stop if you're not directly going in this area. read more

I like donuts but I don't crave it how Gavin craves for it. I generally get him one or a few donut holes once a week. I don't know about other parents but sugary treats / dessert is not something I give my kid on a daily basis. He knew that since I was working from home on Friday, he did not get his fix. We both woke up early yesterday morning and the first thing he asked was for donuts. It was 6AM. Saw the pictures and excited for the weekend donut specials (the ones topped w/ candy). I did not see any Oreo ones but I got the Reese's PB Cups one and got it. Once it was 11AM, I inhaled half of it. Tracking my macros now and I did not want to put my entire gains just for a donut so that might be my treat later today. Friendly service. Huge donuts. I see donut ice cream. I'll preface with this: my favorite donut store is Blue Star in Portland. I haven't found a donut that good. I arrived to Dunlap at 6am hoping to get the pick of the litter. Unfortunately all the specialty donuts except the Cronut were ready. I waited for the Samoa and the Animal cookie donut. These donuts were soft and fluffy. To the naked eye they look exactly like your standard donut store. Where I'm from the donut stores are typically Asian family ran and the donuts are typically hard almost stale tasting despite them being made fresh daily. Dunlaps do classic donuts really well. The Samoa donut definitely tasted like the cookie. My sister and son ate the animal cracker one. I'd probably come here again on my next visit to Santa Cruz and Capitola. read more

I only get to eat here every 2 years or so because I live near Philadelphia. When I come out to Santa Cruz to visit my brother we make a habit of hitting up Allie, the owner, for AWESOME donuts and or breakfast sandwiches! The bacon egg and cheese on English muffins are the best around, bar none, and the price is cheap! The donuts are awesome as well. Also, it's always great to see Allie as well. read more

The sitting area outside next to the road is pretty small (next to a dumpster, I think), and my guy was having some mobility challenges (on crutches, etc.). Folks in the neighboring table were so kind and accommodating, voluntarily standing up so that he could maneuver into a seat. We went back the following week (yes, another medical appt), and this time they were out of the bagels we wanted, so note to self... get there early if you want a favorite bagel. The two cashiers were really nice and everyone just seems to be on the best chill vibes. I will definitely save this place and return in the future. I just think they could have done better in accommodating reasonable requests for guests with dietary restrictions. Instead, we stood there for several minutes without anyone acknowledging us. I understand if the other employees weren't assigned to the register, but what bothered me was that no one even took a second to say, "We'll be with you shortly." A simple acknowledgment goes a long way and would have made a big difference. The lack of customer service and communication made us feel ignored so we just ended up leaving and went some place else. As someone who has supported this business for a long time, it was disappointing. I hope management addresses this because good customer service is just as important as the product itself.

Visited Dunlap's Donuts today and my taste buds are still in heaven! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by the sweet aroma of fresh donuts and the friendliest staff. We tried their Maple Bar & Pistachio crumble both of which were absolutely divine. The donuts were perfectly fluffy, with just the right amount of sweetness, and the toppings were generous without being overwhelming. The coffee was also top-notch, making for the perfect breakfast treat. The shop itself had a cozy, welcoming vibe with cute, quirky decor that added to the experience. BIG OL' TASTY DONUTS. Wow...I was in donut heaven this morning and my blood sugar was sky high. So I have gone to Dunlaps many many times on Soquel when it was around and then it turned into Angel Donuts. I always liked their donuts. I stumbled upon the Portola location and was excited to see it was still around. Staff was really nice this morning. Donuts were aplenty and everything looked so dam good it was hard to choose just one. I ended up with the classic glazed twist. It was so big it barely fit in the bag....awesomeness. But the icing on the cake for me was watching a young lady working the waffle cone maker, mess with her hair to put it up into a bun.... and then go back to making waffle cones again, without washing her hands or putting on gloves. I honestly have been bummed out because I really wanted to try this place that I heard so many good things about... but for now... I'll take a hard pass.
