I will never donate or shop here again. This place is run very differently than other Restore locations. I've been going to this location for at least 3 years, and over that time they have changed the way they do things. They've started BUYING pallets of returned items from Home Depot and Lowes amongst other tactics. They leave the same things on the shelves for months at a time, while the back area is literally overloaded. Someone is either pilfering the better items to a storage unit or friends to sell outside of the organization. This group runs Addison and 2 other locations. Someone else runs Arlington Heights, Aurora, and Elgin, and you can tell. At the end of the day it's supposed to generate money for Habitat for Humanity, but I think they've lost sight of that. After the receiving guy told me he didn't want a few items I was trying to donate, I closed my truck and told him I wouldn't be donating anything after all. He claimed they couldn't sell the items I had, but I find that hard to believe. Newer brand name power tools, new angle grinder with discs, Kreg Case, etc. None of the stuff was old or beat up, and in perfect working order. Sketchy, sketchy, sketchy. read more

This place is horrible. We have donated here before and it's always a little difficult even thought the place is half filled with literal junk. Sent my wife with three brand new boxes of floor tile, one box of high end back splash and three boxes of shower tile figuring they would unload for her. Nope!!!! The pansy that works there gave her a hard time for not having 50 square feet!?! Really, this is a donation for product that can still be bought in store(Kept past the return date) and then nobody would help her unload tile!! I came here to browse for things to remodel my home and was extremely disappointed. This place is filled with scraps. There is not enough of anything to make your place look nice for big projects: 3-4 cabinets that match, 2-3 doors that match, ugly furniture, REALLY ugly sinks and vanities, a graveyard of office chairs, etc. There was a few reasonably nice items, but so expensive! Like a 2 person gray sofa for $500, or a bathroom vanity for $350. Seriously, I could buy that stuff brand new for just about as much! I found a large sectional just the other day at Baxton for $650, so buying a little gray sofa for $500 is an outrageous asking price. If you have small projects or need some miscellaneous items, this may be okay to check out. They had cheap fluorescent bulbs, dishwashers for $30, and a few simple tools like screwdrivers and hand saws for really cheap. Overall, if you're looking for anything decent for your home, don't come here and waste your time. read more

I love the concept - any place that supports reusing and upcycling is great. My issue here is that many furniture items are EXPENSIVE. Also, many of the appliances are really old. Some things are incredibly reasonably priced - like a lovely light fixture that I bought for $5 last year. There is really a mish-mash of stuff here, things like used blinds and doors and windows, tile, new and used tools, etc. There are some finds here but it's pretty hit and miss, like any other reuse place. The only thing that turns me off is the pricing of furniture and rugs. Considering everything is DONATED and most things are second hand used, I would think they would want to rotate and move out the inventory. I suppose it's all at the discretion of the management, right? read more

I really hate to ding this store as they do great things for people, but it wasn't what I was expecting at all. I visited their website a few times, saw some items they had for sale on DiggersList and thought ok, they might have some helpful stuff for me to rework this house we just got. It's a hike, but maybe it'll be worth it. Sadly, it was more like shopping in Grandpa's garage where he amassed coffee cans of nails, dirty odds and ends of things for the last 50 years. The paint section is what I was excited about but it turns out it was cans in various states of fullness in unknown colors that were leftovers from people's paint jobs 25 years ago. You really need to have a lot of time and willingness to dig through stuff here. And if you have that, I'm sure you can find just what you need. There was a section of newer furniture in the back and I did find a good mirror for $20, but most everything back there was supremely overpriced. It's not a terribly large store so there wasn't a lot of stuff. Lots of doors though. Generally overall, pricing does vary quite a bit. Sooo, if you're in the area, it wouldn't be a bad thing to stop in as their stuff rotates, but it just wasn't for me sadly. read more

I love this place. It's usually hit or miss but the "hits" are huge and make it worth the trip. Tiled a whole bathroom for $25. Found gas fireplace logs and all brass tools for under $20 and a half Christmas tree for $45 when it was $250 online. Just bought a brand new couch for $50 which I'm still shocked by. Many fail to look at the color of the sticker. While brand new items can be pricy and not worth it, some stuff is actually 50/75% of the sticker price. Staff is mostly super nice. A couple grumps but whatever. read more

The customer service at this place is horrible and it has become worse since they reopened after the coronavirus pandemic. The guy who is responsible for donations in the back is rude and has a real attitude problem. He yells at customers who are cautious about backing up their vehicle in a tight loading bay, having no consideration that people may damage their vehicle. In addition, my last experience donating to them made me very angry and I will never donate or purchase another product from this company again! Here are the circumstances of my bad experience: 1. The donations guy took one look at the wall boards I was donating and made a decision that the company won't be able to sell it based on his own personal choice of what he would want, not what people actually would buy. I attempted to donate solid wood cedar stained boards that interlock together and are popular in basements and summer cabins. This stuff is better than the cheap carbon fiber board that breaks apart easily if exposed to water, which sadly is more what this place would prefer be donated than the solid wood boards I tried donating. However, he had no problem accepting the casings, quarter round, and trim pieces I had that were also solid wood and stained in the same color. 2. When the donations guy told me he would accept the casings, quarter round, and trim pieces, he rudely directed me to dump those items in one of the large storage containers without providing any information about how to open the container and offered no assistance in opening the door. When I first heard this, I was put off, like am I really hearing this? I am a customer, not an employee and they are getting items for free which they are going to sell later and make money off of. It really should not be the customer's job to figure out how to open the container on their own and dump the items. That is their employee's job that is being paid to deal with donations. Also, other customers have touched the door handle of the storage containers and gone in them, with no ventilation, to donate their items putting customer's more at risk for getting COVID-19. Logically it would make more sense for an employee to be doing this given he/she would be the only one to be touching the door handle and would be the only one going in there rather than different customers that are more likely to bring the virus into that container. 3. Already upset that they would not accept the solid wood boards and after the poor treatment I received being told to open a container and dump it myself without any assistance offered, when I asked for the donations slip which I need for tax filing purposes, I was told no we can't do that, you have to go online and download the form. That was the nail in the coffin on never donating and shopping at this place again! This was never the process in the past nor does it make any sense. It was not just the fact that he said this but that way he rudely said it that got me angry. I informed him that I did not like his attitude and gave him a piece of my mind and then I went into the store to speak to the manager in charge. 4. When I spoke to the manager to address how I was poorly treated by the donations guy, he arrogantly defended him, citing COVID-19 as a reason they cannot touch the items and why the customer had to dump the items in the storage bin. He also blamed it on the Governor for why they can't hand you a donations slip. OK, REALLY??? The manager and this store's policy lacks logic. First, there was a change in CDC guidance citing a recent scientific study that found it is not easy to get COVID-19 from touching surfaces which debunked previous studies that said the opposite. Two, I have been in several stores during the pandemic and I have seen employees all the time handling merchandise that several other customers could have touched on the shelf previously. Finally, what is the difference in risk of getting COVID-19 from being handed a receipt at the cash register versus a donation slip? There is no difference. Other similar businesses like Goodwill also still hand customers a donations receipt. In addition, Governor Pritzker's executive order did not mandate that customers self service drop donations off in a storage container without assistance nor does it say that stores cannot hand you receipt or donations receipt. So this policy is total BS. 5. The manager and I got into a heated argument with their security guy stepping in to kick me out. Naturally, I was irate because of how I was treated which should never ever happen to another customer again. Instead of listening, they chose to be defensive jerks. The coronavirus is blown out of proportion and used as an excuse to treat customers poorly and offer bad service. If they really care about customer safety by logic their employees should be dealing with the storage containers not customers. I will never shop here nor donate here ever again! read more

I know quite a few people who have said they found nice things here but not me. I have been here several times and have only found small items like tools, light bulbs, etc. Any furniture that is there and in nice condition is overpriced to me. Most of the household furniture and cabinets are in poor shape and would require major DIY makeovers to be useable. I will try it a few more times and if no luck, cross it off my list. read more

This is a hit and miss kind of place: since I was in the vicinity (around the block actually) getting a Smog Check at the DMV, the timing was perfect to strike out and see what was "in store" at the ReStore : I had on my list a new toilet seat for the basement bathroom - which is a Contractor's Special so I did not want to spend a lot on a replacement seat! The website for the store indicated that there was a rainbow's variety of these. So, measurements in hand, I headed for the bathroom aisle. Eureka! I got a wooden seat in perfect shape for $3. Wood is good for this type of seat in a cold basement! Also picked up a measuring tape for $3. Never can have too many of these when you're a thrifter like me. I think I have 2 in my purse at all times... they had some decent wood trims, and a lot of new in the bag, some dusty, hardware. And if you like to dabble with painting walls, furniture and what not, you won't be wailing if it doesn't turn out how you envisioned when you spent a few dollars on supplies. Faux finish paints, sample paints, kitchen cabinets to paint --- you can find it all there. I recalled going to ReStore a couple years back to look for some paint. I'm in the midst of renovating my place to put on the market (in Bloomingdale if anyone's looking...*LOL*) and was looking for some used appliances for my kitchen. My contractor was suggesting some potential appliances at Cruz Services & Appliances in Villa Park. I was going to reluctantly head there to meet him even with the one negative review on Yelp but remembered ReStore and stopped there instead. They had a lot of used appliances on sale and pretty much anything that you may need for small projects. Big projects as others have said may be riskier as they won't have all matching that you need. But for one off purchases like the appliances they had a good selection and I happen to catch it on a 30% sale so scored even more of a bargain. Yay! I just hope they work...LOL. read more

I've found some decent stuff here, but I have a really bad taste in my mouth about this place right now as they put a pretty big scratch in my brand new car because some teenager decided to shove my purchase in very carelessly. The manager gave me her apologies but said she couldn't really do anything about it. So my $7.50 nightstand is going to end up costing me $30 because of the touch-up paint I have to buy. TL;DR - if you buy something here, don't let the teenagers load it into your car. The older guys at least had more sense. read more

I like this place and go here often to see what they have. The people there are volunteers and I have not come across any mean people. I've had good luck! I've purchased crown moulding for my bathroom for a buck ! The WHOLE bathroom! We just installed a backsplash with tile from there. 200 tiles for $5! A new toilet seat for $3 and actually it was cheaper because they were doing a spin for a discount that day and I got an extra 30% off my purchase ! I also got shutters for my house for $3 a pair! They have a mix of brand new and previously used things. If you're a do it yourselfer and you know what you're looking for then this is a GREAT place check out ! read more

On June 23, 2018 I went to the Restore and was interested in some kitchen cabinets. I took measurements and went to the Restore 3 times, remeasuring and calculating cost. I kept a watchful eye on their Facebook website for sales and promotions for discounts since I thought the kitchen cabinets were a little overpriced for a used item. On August 16th, they posted online that blue tag items were 60% off. I had a picture on my cell phone of the kitchen cabinets and they were blue tag. My mom drove down to the Restore to see if the cabinets were available and they were but interestingly enough someone at the Restore switched out the tags on the same cabinets to a Purple tag to only 30% off. There are signs all over the store telling customers not to price switch tags and it is considered retail theft, etc yet here they are pulling a scam and scamming their own customers out of money/discounts. I have photo documented evidence that they switched out the tag on the same cabinet. My mom confronted the manager about it since we had a photo as proof and he denied it. We ended up purchasing the cabinet. I tried contacted corporate on August 27th but have yet to receive a response. read more

I hate wasting anything. I love the idea of being a good steward of everything we own and using or sharing it wisely. I will never share any donation with this store ever again. I backed up their terribly pitched ramp without any guidance from anyone until I "triggered" the bell for them to open the door (which I didn't know I had to do until some guy walking in the parking lot told me). The guy came out of the door and said are you here to donate? I said yes and popped my trunk. He stood there. I told him (from the driver's seat because I couldn't open my door because the ramp is narrow and has a guardrail) that we just had our basement refinished and this was the leftovers. There was 3/4 of a super heavy bucket of mudding, drywall compound, and 1/2 a bag of cement and 3/4 of a 5 gallon bucket of cement sealer, 1/2 sheet of beadboard, two light fixtures and a box of tile, 1/2 a bag of grout and 1/2 sheet of waterproof drywall. I asked him if anything was wrong and he said they don't take open containers (IT DOESNT SAY THAT ANYWHERE ON YOUR WEBSITE. It only specifies that boards have to be nail free.) or cut pieces of drywall/beadboard- well... (except one "bigger" cut that he did take.). And I replied "you don't want anything? Not even the tile?" He answered snottily that "well I'll take the light fixtures. And this one piece of beadboard." He took them out of the trunk and snootily said "thank you for your donation" and slammed the trunk (and I have a power trunk jerk). I drove over thirty minutes thinking I was doing the right thing by the items and now they'll end up in my trash can filling up the landfill. Great job Restore. You lost my business and my generosity. read more

It was my first time there and I was going to donate, but I got yelled at by a worker when I pulled up to drop off a freezer. My husband and I were going to carry it in to their donation door, but the guy wanted us to lug it back into the car and back our car up the ramp. Seriously?!? We put it back into the car and left. They're not going to make a single dime off of my donation. Sorry. I'll just sell it myself and make some cash off of it. Hate this place!!! read more

I came to the ReStore because I was looking to update my bathroom and finish out my basement. This place is what you make of it. If you are handy, use Pinterest a lot, or like to refinish older items, this store is great. I am a huge Pinterest-er so I was pleasantly surprised by the store overall. They have many items that would look incredible with just a fresh coat of paint and a little elbow grease. There were brand new items still in the package from Ace Hardware. If you know what you're looking for, and what you need, you will be able to get things at a fraction of retail cost. The restore also gets donations from Wayfair- how cool is that?! One of the store employees, Allison, walked my husband and I around the store to give us an overview of many great items that come in. Allison is an asset to the store- she took her time with us, was patient, incredibly helpful, and sweet. It is obvious that she loves her job and loves helping people see the potential/beauty in things. We walked away with a gorgeous granite slab. The Restore works with a local granite company that will be able to give us a discounted price for custom cutting. I cannot wait to put it in!! All in all, I can definitely say I will be back. read more
