I've been coming here for many years because the people who work here know what they are doing and are always helpful. Today, I broke off a key in my door lock. I was not able to get the broken part out after trying and trying. I went to Ace prepared to have to replace the unit. James in the keys and lock department said to let him try getting it out. No luck on the front end, so he disassembled the tumbler from the back, removed the broken part and was able to make a duplicate key from the part that broke. He also cleaned out the tumbler and reassembled everything back. Came home, put everything back together, and the new key worked! My final cost was for a new key only. Try getting this level of service from a big box store. It's not going to happen. Thanks to James at Len's Ace hardware. Service like this is why I go there. They are 5 stars! read more

Service not many can help but the handful that do is very well appreciated. I've been going for my kitchen knives to be sharpened but not all employees are trained or seem to want to learn although it seems like a pretty simple process that takes less than 5m per knife. We usually have to wait a while for the right people to be available or to arrive & help. The employee is much more extra valuable if cross trained in my opinion. The price/value of sharpening went up to $6 ish per knife. read more

I am new to Addison and not far from this Ace. I give 5 stars to the staff for both times I've gone rhere in two weeks because they are so nice. I've tried to be a BUY AMERICAN kind of guy when I could. That is why I drove here instead of Chinamart, Chinarget, Home DeChina, or MenChina. I guess it really doesn't matter anymore. All I needed was a brass knob for my closet door. Even with the Senior Discount, it was almost 5 bucks for a colored piece of plastic. I thought, well, it's USA. I got home, the screw in the package was too short to go all the way through the door and connect to the knob. (That's nobody's fault) What did disappoint me, is to read the more expensive golden colored plastic was made in Thailand. Geez. At least the keys cut were done by an American last time, but I can't go to Ace anywhere anymore unless it is a big ticket item made in the USA. It's great it is a private franchise, but the prices offer nothing in savings, in fact, I spent more for the same supporting of a foreign country. What was worse, was I was only able to use half of what I bought. I'm sure I will be told to bring it back if I wish, but I'm trying to conserve on the gas we buy from foreign countries also. read more

This is my local Ace Hardware. You can find everything you need for DIY and they even have a shop to fix your snow blower which I recently went here for. They have an option to pick up and drop off if you can't bring it in to get it fixed. You can also rent equipment for your DIY projects here as well, which my Addison location offers Full Rental sweet! They did some updates of their outside façade since I've last been here. The parking lot is a bit small so watch out for cars coming in and out of there. The inside still looks a bit outdated, but it's like a neighborhood feel. I think on weekends they pop popcorn for the customers to munch on while shopping around. Apparently, there's a lot of locals that come here as I ear hustled of workers saying hello to customers by their first name, that's cool. Maybe it's because they have Senior Special Discounts for those over 62. Customer Service is pretty good and overall a nice experience. You can also get a 10% off your order if you went to the near by Jewel, yeah check in the back of your receipt. They were so nice to take my coupon, after the fact they processed my snow blower repair bill. Overall, I never had a bad experience at this location. Ace is my last resort. They are so over priced. I needed to buy a replacement pump for my filter. Ace was the only location where I had the option to pick up today but the pump was $100! The exact same pump at Walmart and on Amazon with 2 day shipping it was $50. Same product at 50% increase??? No thank you. I'll be patient and get it shipped. read more

Len's carries on a tradition that is slowly disappearing in this country, the full service hardware store. Inside this store deep inside it is a long counter with some scary looking dudes. But, if you have the guts to look them in the eye you will find some crusty old friendly people who only want to help you. The have a treasure trove of experience from which to draw on and in some cases they will pass you off to one of their buddies that may more fit your needs. If you have something to fix or repair it may be worth stopping their and asking for their advice. As your walking around be sure and grab a bag of popcorn, that is popped fresh by an employee and yes, it's free. I never thought a hardware store could be a place to buy clothes but Len's also carries clothing. There are always specials and they do give seniors a discount. read more

I have been an Addison resident for 10years and I always go to this Ace locations. Everyone is great and always willing to help me out during any of my home projects. My grass died after the nasty snow last year to find out that when we were shoveling the salt melted from the ground and seeped into the grass and killed it. I didn't have to remove all of my grass to get it back to life. They gave me the perfect mixture of seeds and other things that I needed to get it growing. This saved me a lot of money! read more

The owner/manager appears to be a decent guy. But, his checkout people are cold, unhelpful, rushed and act as if they are doing you a favor by taking your money. This applies to every checkout person they have and I have been coming here for years. I don't understand their lack of training. Often, these are the only employees you actually have contact with in this store so why are they so awful? The back hardware desk employees are old grouches. You have to be firm with them or they will talk down to you. On another note, they rent equipment with two options, 3 hours or 8 hours. Um, ok, right. The standard minimum everywhere is 4 hours. Know why? Because you really only have 2 hours taking into consideration that you wait for them to get you the equipment and then the drive there and back, so you lost almost one hour of your rental time. 4 hours minimum people. read more

Fabulous !!! What a gem! Forget Home Depot, Lowe's, or any other home store. This is it! Especially Len's!!!! Apart from having everything you need for your repairs, projects and fixer uppers they hands down have the best staff. Their customer service goes above and beyond. I would think that they have a lot of repeat customers, and they should, which is good because loyal customers is where they make their money. Tom & John were so helpful. In fact, they were more than helpful. Not only did they take the time to listen to me explain what I needed, but they genuinely cared that I was using and buying the right stuff. I literally handed Tom a picture of the setup I needed (it had valves and hex nipples, extenders, etc.) and gave him a few sizes and he, within 5 minutes, had all the parts for me! It was truly amazing! I felt like he had made this same thing a million times already today!!! Such a great team! Before that I had been at Home Depot where two different guys couldn't figure out what I needed, and even then they seemed like they had better things to do...definitely not knowledgeable or handy. I've been to several Len's locations and every time I am helped fast and efficiently. It's nice to know they are consistent with their customer service and they are all trained well. It also proves their staff truly enjoy their jobs and love the company they work for. I learned tonight that one of Len's goals for the company is to be the community's go-to hardware store. They offer competitive prices and if you don't see it in the store they will do everything they can to get it for you. I so hope they reach that goal and if they keep up the good work and keep their loyal and hard working staff then there is no reason why they won't! I was informed tonight that they are working on all the prices of their items. They know one of the advantages that the big box stores have in them is price, so they are working on lowering their prices to be more competitive. Just between you and me, it's worth paying a little more anyways. The knowledge and service they provide is priceless. If you are wondering if you should go here...do it. I promise they will have what you need. And don't be afraid to ask for help, although I'm sure they will find you before you find them, because that's what they do! Lenny you are doing a great job! This review is for service on a mower. The store itself is Ok. You're going to maybe pay a bit more than a big box for your doodads, but you should know that ahead of time, I would think. Anyhow, this mower repair. My mower stopped wanting to mow, so I called around to find a place to fix it. This place is near my workplace and I'd had them sharpen the blade a week or so prior and bought a new plug, etc., as part of spring prep. I thought I'd give them a call to see if they could fix it. Sure can, bring it on in, they said. So I did. And the fun begins. Dropped it off on a Wednesday. They indicated they were backlogged a bit, so it might be a few days. Ok, no problem. They called the next day to give me a quote. 220.00 for a carb, new pull system, some oil and new front tires. 170 without the tires. The tires were a throw in but I figured I'd get them done as long as it was in for service, so I told them to go ahead and do them AS LONG AS IT DIDN'T DELAY THE JOB. I was very clear on this point and that I needed this thing back, as I was starting to see big cats hiding in my grass. Thinking they were hunting for my dogs, whose asses would be kicked pronto by a big cat with hunger pangs, I made it clear I needed it back ASAP. No problem, I was told, these wheels would not cause a delay. Rock on, I said. And I waited. And I waited. The next Wednesday rolled around and there were elephants along with the big cats roaming the pampas-like expanse that used to be a finely manicured lawn, so I called to see where my little grass chopper was. "Well, everything's here but the wheels", I was told, upon which a tiny vein in my eye burst, spattering goo all over my desk. "Those come in Friday, so it should be done Monday, give or take." Ummm, the hell with the wheels, I said, and explained, again, that I actually needed to get this done and out. Ok, I was told, we'll throw the carb on and it will be ready tomorrow. Well, it was, of course not ready tomorrow, but Friday it was, so I chased myself on over to Len's to retrieve my chop-chopper. Aaaaand I was handed a bill in such a garbled format that neither I, the service person, nor the cashier could actually tell what exactly was on this thing. What was clear was that it was well over 170.00. After a few minutes of detective work we determined that those cursed wheels were still on the bill. Fine, they took them off. We're still @ 199.00. Well it turns out that they sharpened the blade, again, for which they charged me, although I didn't ask for it, gave it a tune-up, which I also didn't ask for, nor was it part of the quote, and there was a bunch of stuff they told me was 'miscellaneous' and for which nobody actually knew what the basis was, but showed up as dollars and cents anyhow. Given that I'd been given an actual quote for work I'd actually authorized I made my displeasure quite clear. I kind of thought knowing how much the cost would be before getting something done was the whole purpose of getting a quote. Anyhow, after holding up the line for what seemed like an hour in the checkout lane to figure out exactly what I was paying for, I finally gave up and paid for things, some of which I still have absolutely no idea as to what they actually were. This always makes me a decidedly unhappy consumer. Something about being charged for no-one knows what after getting a quote for a job tends to put me off my lunch, but I'm funny like that. You may not care, but I'll let you decide. This was such a complete hodge-podge of disorganization and murky billing that I probably wouldn't go back there for service. However, to be fair, I only ended up eating 30 bucks in mystery charges, and, although that irritates me, the mower is fixed. I'm going with 3 stars instead of just panning them, because they did get the job done and it's not like I feel they were blowing me off or not trying to get this done, so it wasn't a totally lousy performance either. read more

After breakfast we decided to go there to pick up a few things. 1st, to plumbing. Our ACE friendly associate WAS A PLUMBER! yes I'm trusting his advice. And NO he didn't recommend the most expensive product! Then to lawn and garden, another friendly associate. Are these ppl being fed happy pills? I love it! Then we had some keys made. My bf had a ninja key made, I had T-I-double Gur-er. Checked out. On the walk to the parking lot all we did was talk about about great they were in there. I dropped off a Toro Snowblower to be serviced but called to check their hours first. A lot of Toro service centers have very limited hours and Len's hours were perfect, so we went on a weekend. When we got there, the cashier at the front was very friendly and explained that the Addison store is actually the one that does repairs. I was not happy to hear that but then she explained that they are actually the ones to take the snowblower to Addison for us. What a relief! Then an employee by the name of Jaime helped us, he took the machine outside and tested it for us. He was super helpful, along with Bob who asked us some questions about the product. They took our information and promised to get back to us soon. I'm still waiting to get an update but I was just so pleased with their customer service that I wanted to write a review. read more

Wow! What a nice hardware store. And big! I was looking around for a local Lowes or Home Depot, but I'm glad I found this Ace instead. They pretty much have anything and everything you're looking for, and unlike the Aces I've visited in the past, this is not a tiny hole-in-the-wall, where they may have one choice for anything you look for. Their selection is huge. The employees are friendly. One stopped to help give me a recommendation on the proper nails to choose because there were literally hundreds to choose from and I'm not the most experienced in that area. Fun fact, my buddy Marcus bought his grill here and I can see why he would do that. Great service, free delivery and fair prices. This is the hardware store of choice when I'm in Addison and need to fix something at my parents house. I love it because it's small enough so that you don't have to wander aisle after aisle to find something, yet still holds a lot of inventory so that many of your hardware needs are met. Plumbing, painting, lighting, electrical, lawn care--you can find a lot of your upkeep and repair needs here. Customer service has always been friendly and helpful. They don't condescend or treat me like "some girl" looking for a DIY project either--like I've been treated in some big box hardware stores. Anytime I've needed assistance I've been helped with professionalism and genuine interest. And if you visit on a Saturday--they have fresh popped popcorn for free to all their customers! Along with hardware items, there's some fun random stuff--like tons of PEZ (my son loves that!) and a nice display of about 20 kinds of old-time flavored soda--how fun is that? read more

Len's is pretty good on the customer service front but I'll admit to being spoiled by my old Ace Hardware in the city. (See my 'Art of Service' list.) The guys at the service counter are helpful but I get a little too much of the "Oh, you can find that in aisle 7". This is one of the reasons I avoid Home Depots at all costs. I don't want to spend twenty minutes searching an aisle for something that ultimately isn't in stock. Don't get me wrong, the staff have always been attentive and they carry a great selection. Horrible service at the Roselle/Bloomingdale location on Lake Street Purchased a extension ladder on 7/13/2019 had to return it 30 minutes later for not being tall enough still have not received my refund and today is 8/7/2019 was told originally it takes 7 to 10 days then was told two weeks then was told by Patricia numerous times she would look into it and call me back but no call back ever then i call and was told she was on vacation so then i talked to Chris he says the samething he would look into it guess what never heard back from him. Seriously how long does it take to get a refund. If i was the owner of this location i would find different management. Horrible customer service read more

Two stars, because I hate the fact that they keep the nuts/bolts/screws behind a counter. I don't know if theft has been an issue or what, but I like to dig around to find what I need. The guys working behind the counter are knowledgeable, but slowwwwwwwwwwww. I usually get annoyed waiting for my turn at the counter. Once I finally get help, the come back with something I don't want. I ask for a different part and I'm told they don't have it. I drive to the Roselle store, and sure enough, I find what I'm looking for. It gets old. The funny thing is, the Roselle store is owned by the same person and 1/3 the size. I guess I just really like digging through the screw/nut/bolt bins myself. On the bright side, it's a good old-fashioned hardware store and the guys here know what they are talking about. If you don't know what you're looking for, stop on by. If you know exactly what you want, you may save some time going elsewhere. Personally, I like the industrial-Ace store located on Devon (MIller Industrial). Pro Tip: There's parking in the back and a back entrance. this review has to do with pricing. Just recently I purchased a qt. can of acetone for $10 and 30 # 6 screws 1" for $3. The next day I went to Menards and saw the same acetone for $5 and checked on the same screws and they were $3.99 for 100. Customer service at Len's is excellent, love Kim, but noticing the HUGE difference in pricing of 2 items, I will be checking and comparing prices. I have no problem paying extra for the convenience and exceptional service. I also realize you don't have the buying power as the BIG GUYS but doubling the price is a bit much. I will continue shopping at Ace but I will also be more conscious of pricing. read more

Unbelievable. I went in for a pane of glass. Either the person was on lunch, break, or they didn't know who. Finally a young man. I said I would bring in my window. When I got back, he was busy with someone else. I waited patiently. My total wait time was 45 minutes from when I arrived. When the young man was ready to help me, another older man was ready to help me. He looked at the window and said plexiglass. Really? This is my local Ace, and as a fairly new homeowner, I'm there relatively frequently. There are two types of customer service/salespeople, near as I can tell; the teenagers who are friendly but don't know much, and the semi-retiree older men who know tons, but won't help without pulling my leg or acting like I'm the dumbest guy who's ever walked in there. I've gotten so I've found 1-2 people I feel like will help me out, so I generally get what I came for nowadays, but it's taken some trial-and-error. Prices are a little higher for some items than the big box stores, but 10% off coupons are easy to find, including on the back of receipts from local groceries. read more
