My husband and I wanted a deck upgrade, so we kept the foundation of our deck and wanted stair widening from top to bottom deck, railings built on the lower portion and new boarding and railing on the top deck. Tyrone gave us a fair price and was responsive and professional at first. Once work began, demo happened, then the weather turned for the worse for a few days, then the carpentry began. Tyrone had two different carpentry subcontractors come out on different days to work on the deck. after this was complete, we noticed some poor carpentry areas (large gaps in cuts of the wood in the handrails, crooked rails, and nails protruding out of a gate). When I took pictures of these and sent them to Tyrone, I heard nothing from him. Then, one of his subcontractors called me and told me Tyrone was not going to pay him until he fixed the mistakes I was complaining about. He went on to tell me that it was not his group of subcontractors that made the mistake, and that this was the second time Tyrone was withholding pay from him for a job for mistakes he didn't make. As whoever reading this can imagine, getting a call from a subcontractor is not common practice (as I would imagine, we are new homeowners). When I confronted Tyrone about this, he said he had no idea how his subcontractor got my phone number...and so it all began. This was the start to several weeks of continued unprofessional behavior. Demo materials sat for several weeks before I finally complained that the trash needed to be hauled away, as we live in a homeowners association and could get fined. And the poor carpentry areas took an extraordinary amount of complaining on my part to get fixed. As painting began, I noticed that the gate they had built was crooked (slanted horizontal and vertical boards that didn't align with the rest of the deck). We asked for it to be fixed and was met with extreme opposition. I was admonished for not telling him sooner, and was told that the gate is supposed to be crooked (hmm, really?), and if I wanted it fixed it would be considered part of a warranty. The last straw was when he gave subcontractor our credit card info to charge us for painting when our contact was clear that we would pay for this entire project in three payment, and all to Tyrone directly. When I complained about this (after a few hours of trying to figure out what happened and cancelling credit cards) I was again met with unprofessional behavior. This is when I went onto the MHIC to make a complaint. This is also when I found out that the license this contractor gave us on our contract did not exist. So, now I'm dealing with an unlicensed contractor. If you want licensed professional work, go elsewhere. Do your research (is the contractor licensed on MHIC?). Look at all the reviews (Yelp/BBB/Angies List), and ask for references from recent jobs. We unfortunately learned a valuable lesson in this experience, so there was some good that came out of it.

Our basement had some layout issues because of ill placed mechanicals. David came up with a floor plan that maximized every inch of space. The crew is fantastic as well. She contacted several companies, and ultimately went with these guys because she felt they were up front and the cost was reasonable. IIRC, she dealt with a gentleman by the name of Aiden who stopped by to formulate the estimate, and then Justin who was our installer. Long story long: they promised delivery of parts in about 4 weeks, and install in about 7 hours which was fine with us. The parts got here in about a week, they offered to get moving two days later, and the install was done in 5 hours. Next, I'm pretty well versed on construction (I've done plenty of large scale renovation projects myself at times, with my own hands... so... I know good and bad work). Midway after the install started, the installer did mentioned he has an issue with cable placement. He politely said I probably wouldn't notice it, but he wanted to let me know anyway and his proposed work-around. Once he briefed me, I did suggest an alternative correction method that I would prefer. He said "no problem... I'll make it work". And he did. That pretty much sums up dealing with them. Flexible, good work, efficient, and definitely courteous. On the bad side... I can't recognize our foyer anymore... I thought I walked into our neighbors house when I first saw the new railing... LOL It does look great now tho.

Right from the beginning…read moreMike made us feel very comfortable and assured us he could replace our 20 year+ s me deck and patio within our budget. He was flexible with our schedules and answered all our questions. However, once he had our deposit that quickly changed. Mike's quote for a FLAGSTONE patio was originally $12-14k and advised if we switch to pavers it would be significantly less. However, after patiently waiting for him to finalize the numbers, he provided us a revised quote for the same size PAVER patio for $24k. Mike could not provide a clear or consistent answer for why the price doubled. At first he said it is because he omitted $8k of debris removal and haul away costs. (Which was our first red flag - how does a professional contractor with 17 years' experience exclude debris removal when doing a full deck and patio replacement?) Then Mike said the quote was based on a smaller patio. We were clear from the beginning the size of the patio can't decrease. So this answer is either false or he had a glaring error on his end. In fairness to us, we asked to see the drawing of the smaller patio that supported the original quote. We patiently waited; however, Mike was unable or unwilling to provide the requested drawing. Then Mike blamed another contractor saying that he doesn't set the prices. If that were true, how did he confidently quote us $12-14k before we gave the deposit? That question is still unanswered. Mike also was unable to complete the design in a timely manner - taking over 7 weeks to provide a plan and pricing to replace our same footprint. We were told construction could be completed by the first week in December - turns out that was also false. We put in over 2 months of time, effort, and planning into this project and are now waking away incredibly disappointed and frustrated. For a company with such great reviews, this is a true shame. Despite all these red flags, it's is important to note that, until recently, we wanted to find a way to make this work - after all mistakes happen. However, having an owner not be able to take ownership of his mistakes and work with the customer to find a solution is just bad business. I strongly advise anyone thinking of doing business with this company to be very careful. Sneaking in costs and not being able to back them up is simply wrong. We clearly dodged a bullet, so for that I am grateful.
