Dishwasher not keeping up with demand and hard to get plates or bowls. Bathroom a disaster. When the lady manager with the short haircut, high fashion haircut is here, this place is fine because she cares if the customers have what they need and even goes into the kitchen to check on things. When the other lady manager who screams across the restaurant is on duty, the whole place is out of control with people yelling and screaming, kids running, kitchen manager out lounging up by the cashier not managing kitchen, empty food and old leftovers. You would think that a buffet with a hundred items on it would offer SOMEthing that was accidentally done well, but it didn't. I'm at a loss to explain how bad the food is, because every dish disappointed in a different way. Generally, the flavors were just "off." Instead of beef with broccoli, there's chicken with broccoli, etc. And nothing tastes the way it looks, if that makes sense. Have gone to this location many times but today I had a very negative experience. After eating a piece of spicy chicken I noticed a strange object with white and orange bands across it. Upon closer inspection I realized it was a small insect and stopped eating immediately. I beckoned the waitress over and she denied it was a bug, claiming it was a burnt piece of chicken. Absolute WORST customer service ever! The server is polite and trying to do her job, but the manager without even asking me what I would like to talk about decides to scream at me, while there are maybe 4 other tables in here. We called ahead to find out about lunch pricing, she said if we got here by 3:45, we would be charged lunch pricing. Great! It was 3:30 when I called. We walk in at 3:35 and wait for service, while there is literally 3 tables in here. The manager is the one who sat us and never once said anything about dinner pricing. The server comes over after 3:45 giving me a list of foods they are putting out that we cannot eat or will be charged dinner pricing, AFTER we already had plates of food and are still wrong. No, it is not my responsibility to watch out for a least of 6-10 items that she rattled off. My daughter is 4, if she picks one of those items, I'm not stopping her. She is growing and will snack on pretty much anything. My daughter is the one who asked to come here or I wouldn't have. The food and service have gone down drastically since they opened up Feast down the street. The server went and told the manager, she starts yelling at the server in her language about it. That's not right. Then, the server tells me that she said she won't do anything about it, I told her I'll talk to her at the end. The manager says something else to the server asking what I said, so she comes over and doesn't ask me anything but starts yelling at me. Literally. No exaggerations. Beyond rude, unprofessional, embarrassing, teaching my 4 year old bad manners, etc. Other tables were looking at us and talking. As I'm typing this, another table came over to me to apologize and say how she wasn't right. One of their party was a senior citizen and she argued and yelled at her about whether her age was right or not! For ONE dollar! What is wrong with her?!? You're talking about measly money in the grand scheme of things and at this time it has absolutely nothing to do with what you're costing me financially. It is unethical and beyond embarrassing! I have lost my appetite and would walk out now if it weren't for the fact my daughter is hungry and wants to eat. I'm not ruining her treat of coming to the buffet, because of a rude, careless person. Not to even mention the place is dark and has a foul odor. Horrible all the way around. Failure keeps you from going very often. E-Star has got it down. I went there for lunch just because it was close by and on my way to run errands. Errands didn't get done. I couldn't leave. Steaming fresh soup and entrees. Nobody was soggy or bland. Crisp vegetables, moist, juicy meats, fresh, delicate seafood. And desserts that defiantly didn't come out of a box. Sushi. I have never seen this kind of sushi at a buffet. Legit sashimi, nigiri. Yellowtail, salmon, eel, crab, spicy rolls, veg rolls with Avacado and spicy mayo, on and on. Literally too much to list. The last time I stuffed myself silly with unlimited buffet food was over 5 years ago, but the sparkling neon signs and full parking lot have kept me wondering for some time now. And now I know why the parking lot is always full on weekends. A Chinese buffet with sushi/sashimi for $10 dollars?? WHAT A DEAL. They've got your normal buffet stuff - fried rice, noodles, sesame chicken, beef and broccoli, etc. but there's also a decent sushi selection. Now, don't expect too much, as it's all your "cheap" sushi like tuna, salmon, eel, mackerel, shrimp, imitation crab, and egg. But hey, for $10, who's complaining? We came around 6 and by 6:15 a line began to form at the front door. The good thing about the place being packed is that the food turnover is quick, as there's constantly fresh food being brought out. Always a plus when it comes to a buffet. Be sure to try their sugar covered dough balls and chicken wings, especially when they come out hot! :) The service was also very prompt - I never returned back from the buffet to a dirty plate on the table. There is wide variety of choices for everyone. Sushi and sashimi actually taste good at a Chinese buffet. Each dish offers decent flavor and not many buffets can say they provide beef ribs and calamari. There are your traditional chinese soups such as hot and sour, egg drop, but when there's menudo (spanish beef stomach soup) being offer, thats a game changer since it's a personal favorite. Deserts are subpar but when you're only paying $25 for two people for all the available options you have, that is a great deal! We have been coming here several times and service has been excellent. The presentation of the foods along with the variety of people and children breathing, reaching over, and touching the food started to be a bit much. After discussing and reading a few reviews about E Star my family and I decided to try it out one day and it was pretty good. The decor of the restaurant is nice. It looked clean. The buffet looked maintained. The food looked and taste fresh. The one thing that was missing are those fried corn balls we usually get at those places. This place has become a regular for me when I'm looking for fast, inexpensive, and good. Great selection of Sushi for a buffet. Large variety at the buffet. Very good service. I do recommend not going within the first 35-45 minutes after they open. The few times I went early on, the buffet wasn't even close to being all up (no sushi at all, and about half of the items was stocked on the line). I also don't recommend going within the last 1.5 hours before they close. They obviously wind down and stop replenishing entrees that run out, and what is out looks and tastes like it's been out for quite a while by that point.. but outside of those times, great tasting, well prepared, large selection of food items and very good customer service no matter when you go. read more

Awesome place for a buffet. Definitely the best tasting buffet around and the ingredients seem to be constantly kept fresh. Also, it seems that the dishes are a little more authentic as well. They even have buffet sushi, which I was hesitant of but I took the risk and it was really tasty. This place seems very clean and the selection of food is great. There are even a bunch of healthy options and this is usually lacking from a Chinese Buffet. I am usually not a fan of Buffet restaurants although it is the norm in Houston and I grew up eating buffet-style food since I am from there. This one is a lot nicer than those that I am used to and the food is constantly refilled and fresh. Another good sign is that there are a lot of Asian people eating here so that's how you can tell it is authentic. The more people that eat here the fresher the food, also, since the food never gets stale from sitting under the heat lamps for countless hours. Even though it is crowded I found the wait time to be little to none and the wait staff, although super busy and a bit absent-minded at times, was very accommodating and checked on our table often. At the buffet line there are tons of options and you can tell they take great care keeping the line clean and stocked. The waiters check in often for refills and the like. A quite good chinese buffet out in Katy. I've been several times, and I have to say it's one of the better buffets I've been to (which isn't saying too much). My advice? Try a tiny bit of everything, find the things you like, and stick to them. There's quite a bit of good food. but also quite a bit of not as good food too. I personally like their salmon, sushi, veggies, and grilled chicken. My parents also really enjoy their oysters and spiced mango slices. I'm not a huge fan of their desserts, but their tapioca pudding is pretty good. If you wanted to, you could eat pretty healthy here too - which is a plus. I'd stay away from their crawfish. I was excited at first, but their crawfish is pretty awful. While their ribs are alright, they're not as tender as I'd like either. Most of their fruits are okay, nothing special. We always go here but never ever again. I can not believe the way we were just treated. We started with soup and it was horrible but both agreed that maybe they were just having an off day. When we went to try something else it was cold and soggy, soggy egg rolls and my husband had fried catfish on his plate that was also cold and soggy as week. It was very strange because the food is usually pretty good but everyone has bad days I guess. We wanted to let the manager know because she should know so that she could fix the problem. When we told her, she straight up said that we were just trying to get out of paying and trying to rip her off. We were appalled and told her that wasn't the case at all but that she was way out of line and shouldn't treat costumers like that. We paid our $32 bill for cold soggy food that we didn't even eat, left and went to road house. Lol! Seriously though, do yourself a favor and do not eat at this establishment. The food and sushi were very good as was the service. I nearly feel out of my chair though when one of the guys came out and changed out all the serving utensils. Never in my buffet history have I seen that happen although I've always thought they should do it. For that I gave them an extra star. Great job!!! The management made comical requirements for a small discount that just cost them the business of my entire family and anyone that will listen and understand this story. We go there for my little siblings' 12th birthdays (twins). We print out a discount for a free buffet meal for a kid's birthday. When the check comes we present it. The waiter, getting yelled at from across the room in another language, suddenly tells us that we need ID for it because they don't know if they are really 12. THEY'RE 12 THEY DON'THAVE IDs!! We kindly ask for the manager because this is getting ridiculous. The waiter begins to go towards the manager who has been barking orders at her. She doesn't even make it all way and returns. She tells us we need birth certificates. I laugh. My step-mom somehow has them her phone and VERY kindly, given this ludacrous situation we find ourselves in, goes up to the manager to present the birth certificates. She yells at her to print them out. After realizing how stupid a request the manager rescinds that request only to deny the birth certificates because they don't have pictures... My step-mom also somehow has a picture of their school ids so we finally get the discount. The rest of gave up on discount waaayyyy before this though because this was just a series of the most insane requirements for a SMALL DISCOUNT. It's a shame cause the food isn't bad, but management like that doesn't deserve to stay in business in my opinion. read more

We went to E-Star almost close to closing time so we arrived around 9:45 ish and it closes around 10:30pm on that night. The lady that took us in told us it was around closing time but we agreed that it would be fine because we would eat quickly. However, after settling down a waitress approached us with an attitude telling us that most food items are getting packed up and put away and nothing fresh will be put out. We said that it was fine but she kept bugging us about how the sushi chef leaves at 9:30 and will not make exceptions for us. We again assured her that, that was fine with us. By now some time passed but neither of us were served glasses of water but we were downing fried stuff and it was making us super thirsty. She came back and she kept counting and recounting the number of people in our party to verify the charges, she asked the ages of the kids with us several times. Finally another waitress got us a few waters but not enough for the whole family. So some of us told the problematic waitress we need more water, instead of agreeing that she would bring us more, she told us to share????? Okay then lol, odd and such a nuisance. After eating whatever we could scrap up, my sister's little daughter, my niece who is 6 years old ended up licking some of my sister's icecream. I mean how could you resist, this place barely offers much, so the icecream makes it a bit better. She took tiny nibbles of the icecream swirl until the peculiar waitress came back saying "didn't you say she wasn't going to eat?" Truth is that she wasn't, and she didn't except those tiny bits of icecream. Shes usually a happy meal kinda girl at mcdonalds and her diet doesnt experiment with much else. So my sister asked "she can't have some of my icecream?" The waitress said we charge whoever eats here, little icecream or whatever, still means she's eating. So we got tired of her behavior and demanded to see the manager who mentioned that her attitude was due to her language barrier???? Most definitely not a valid reason, we told them to charge us $1-2 for the icecream since they're desperate.
