New Eagle Cafe blends in with all the other stores in the Nimitz strip of stores. Looks like a standard diner and their menu a mix of diner with japanese and american at relatively expensive prices! I got their Cajun ahi sandwich with mac salad, although they got my order wrong and served me fries. The Cajun flavor wasn't that strong and the ahi very very firm. The fries seemed like the frozen kind that they deep fried. All for $12?! They currently have a Valentine's special where you can get a whole lobster or other various expensive sounding appetizers for $9 with purchase of an entree. Won't be back if unless the co workers want to be back. read more

On impulse, my roommate and I decided to eat at New Eagle Cafe after we ran Ala Moana Beach Park. We were headed to grab a plate lunch at another eatery but the thought of a complete meal lured us in. Their Early Bird Special is available from 3 to 5 p.m. so you might guess what the restaurant's demographic is. At one point I looked around and we were the youngest people in the joint. But that's what I love about this place -- it brings back memories of coming here with my family. I ordered the beef teriyaki with brown rice, which comes with mixed vegetables. The complete meal allows you a choice of soup or green salad. If you get salad, try their house-made french dressing -- it's good! For dessert, you can choose either a pie (apple, custard & pumpkin are a few choices), chocolate or vanilla ice cream, or sherbet. My meal was $18 (includes tip). My family and I go to NEC every once in a while for Sunday dinners. Most of the time I have no complaints. We usually have the prime rib dinner for two and something else. The past two times we've gone to the NEC we gave their "special" a shot. The special being a whole dungeness crab for $8.95 with any entree. The first time we ordered it, the inside was still cold. I only realized this as I broke off one of the legs and took a bite. Sent it back and got it reheated. Tonight went again and tried the crab again as it is part of a Valentines Day special. Same thing...cold crab. The waitress explained to me that they are still frozen when they put them in the steamer. I asked her to tell the cooks to get this straightened as this was the second time this happened. Leads me to ask myself, is my family the only ones to order the dungeness crab? Our waitress was kind enough to offer us a new crab or a lobster but I was so disappointed that I refused any consolation. She took the crab off our bill. Other than that, NEC is a typical family diner with decent food. My suggestion, don't get the dungeness crab special. read more

This place has been here for a while but I've never been here other than the other day. Which is wierd because my family lives close by and we love to eat breakfast. Anyways came in on Sunday just before lunch and they have 2 seperate menus. 1 menu for breakfast and the 2nd for lunch. We had a party of 4 being that of the four two were children. They seated us on the tables in the middle, the tables were so close together to each other it was like we were having breakfast with the people next to us. Of course bring uncomfortable we asked to move to a booth,which they're were plenty available. The waitress seemed pissed that we wanted to move,her attitude sucked. There is plenty of parking so that wasn't a problem. So we ordered full order of eggs Benedict,and fried rice with Portuguese sausage. The eggs Benedict I thought were delicious, and so was the fried rice. I would give this place 5 stars but the service we recieved really affected us. Our waiter was great, and the review isn't reflective of his great service. I had ordered the 'Garlic chicken'. When it came, I thought it looked a little different, but each place has their own style so I tried it. The first bite tasted a little off, but I was thinking it was just because of the gravy, which is not usually on garlic chicken. A couple of pieces were ok if a bit bland. Then I had a piece which tasted just like fish skin. I'm not sure if it was the oil or actually had fish in it. I let the waiter know, and he made sure to take it off the bill and was apologetic. The manager or anyone else didn't say a word or offer any apology. They all knew, because they gathered around and saw when he brought it back. One of the workers said when we left, bye, thank you for coming, not even mentioning the horrible food and nonexistent reply from management. I also saw a grilled cheese being returned because the cheese wasn't even melted. Seems like a very hit or miss place, and seems more like a sports bar since reopening. I dragged my mom along to claim a living social deal for dinner. We specifically looked up the Monday specials to check out their options and decided to order the seafood curry and oxtail stew, but the PDF of the menu prices was outdated and more expensive than we originally anticipated. The hostess seated us right away but at a far-away 4-top booth behind a column despite the fact that there were at least two 2-seater booths open as well as an entirely open section. My mom joked, "maybe they wanted to hide us." Well, because we were hidden, our server didn't know we were waiting and it took a bit longer for us to get our order in. I figured that a daily special of stew and curry is pretty quick to plate up, too, but it took 10-15 min to get our food. We asked to have extra plates to share our food; so our server suggested we use the plates the food bowls were served upon--the ones under the paper doilies. I didn't think too much about that. The food, though was delicious. My family loves seafood and oxtail in any serving style so we enjoyed ourselves. The seafood curry included strips of calamari, crunchy shrimp, and genuine crab legs! It was definitely not from frozen fare. I can imagine that same curry stock being used for katsu, beef, or chicken curry so that wasn't too special. Same goes for the oxtail stew--chunky carrots, potatoes, celery with fall-off-the-bone oxtail meat. I suppose if you came for the early bird special to order beef stew 3-5 pm you'd save on money and be satisfied. (Those early bird specials have a limited menu selection.) As far as portions go, it satisfied my mom and I ( we didn't opt for the complete meal add-on $4 drink, soup/salad, and dessert), but I can't imagine it being enough for my brother or dad without the complete meal. Overall, the bill came out to $30, which isn't bad, but not in the same price-point range of Zippys for similar fare. I recognize that I ultimately paid more for fresh seafood and oxtail, but not necessarily for the ambiance, parking, or location. I guess I'd recommend a complete meal for bigger eaters but that just jacks up the meal cost.) I'll go back on my own for oxtail soup to try that out next time, but won't bring my family back considering I'm way closer to other eateries. read more

What's happening? Food good! Lots of it. A bit pricy though. Service? Waitress came to our table three times. Once to order, deliver salad, deliver main dish. Had to ask another waitress for our bill. Think original waitress wanted to look good as she walked around the restaurant. Oh, and don't think u want to use the facilities. Looks like it had not been cleaned for a few days. ( check out the front door as u walk in. That's a clue) Bring back the previous Owners!!!!For the past 10 years we have come to eat here every-time we shop at Costco. We will give Eagle Cafe one more chance. Unless there is an improvement to service and maintenance, will have to find somewhere else to go. I'm sure so will other customers. Bummer! read more

If I could rate New Eagle Cafe with negative stars, I would have. We had the worst dinner ever tonight! I ordered the Hawaiian Chopped Steak but what I was served was a sizzling platter of chopped vegetables with approximately 6 pieces of thinly sliced beef the size of a quarter. No joke! They used to offer soup or salad with their meals, but that's all ala carte now. This restaurant went totally downhill! It's so sad. Our food server wasn't the friendliest either. I ordered the miso butterfish teishoku. I was seriously doubting that it would taste okay.. But honestly it was pretty good.I mean some things need to be better quality but you can't expect that you're going to be getting a 5 star meal here. I would order it again; for about $20 it came with salad, miso soup, than butterfish, mixed tempura, sashimi, & of course rice. The sashimi was fresh. So I went here for my 2nd time, & the service was worse than the first time. Based on service, this place sucks. I ordered the daily special of Oxtail stew...it was too tomatoy and acidic. Very little Oxtail...more bone than anything and an over abundance of potato and carrots. The other person in my party ordered the fried Akule. The fish that came was less than on forth the size of the plate but the coat was $17. Ok...we thought...it's ok...they are on their bad day...so we tried to order the jello cream cheese square only to find out that they were out. We tried banana ream cheese square and was totally yucky...so we ordered the pumpkin crunch...you cannot screw up oumplin crunch so we thought. It was terrible. The server was an older lady and she wasn't very pleasant. There was just the 2 of us and my friend had to repeat his order several times, chicken yakitori. I ordered a Clubhouse sandwich with mac salad. Since when does a Clubhouse sandwich comes with avocado and no ham? I hate avocados, I told the server that my order was wrong, I told her it was missing the ham, she tells me she'll bring it to me, seriously? I expected her to take the entire plate back to the kitchen. I told that I didn't want the ham. Guess what? She brings me 2 slices of ham. Now I'm getting disturbed, she's not listening to me. The bacon was less than 1/3 of a strip for the entire sandwich. The mac salad was horrible. Seems like it was made with Miracle Whip not mayonnaise. Refilling our drinks, she never asked me if I needed a refill. She asked my friend and he wanted a refill. She doesn't take his glass, she has another smaller glass filled with diet coke and pours iit nto his glass. This was a very disappointing experience. If you're from the mainland and ever been to a roadside diner, this is your Hawaii equivalent. It's a no frills joint with local staple foods: hamburger steak, oxtail soup, teishoku and the like. We come here all the time if I pick up my father or hungry friends from the airport. This is where locals eat. I've had about everything on the menu at one point or another. Misoyaki butterfish, moi, oxtail soup, and the french dip sandwiches are the winners. Everything is delicious and you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Three and a half stars, so I'll round up to four. Local comfort food near the airport. Plenty of parking in the back. Waitresses treat you like a regular every time. Recommend! read more

The first dish I ever had with Eagle was the Saturday special Eggs Benny and Prime Rib. Probably one of the best Eggs Benny I've had. They use ham instead of canadian bacon, unless it was a super thick canadian bacon, but whichever it was... it was delicious. They also know how to poach an egg with the yolk perfectly drizzling on top. Thumbs up on the hollandaise. The portion was enough for me to save most of the prime rib for lunch. (Flavor not bad.) My friend and I shared the sweet bread french toast. It was good, but you can't really mess that up.. i think. The second (on a different day of course) was pork chops and eggs! Pork chops were tender, juicy, and not salty. Third, I ordered the corned beef hash breakfast. This kinda disappointed me... although I am a fan of canned corned beef hash at home, I guess I'd hope for strips of corned beef with chunks of potatoes. Or at least use the Palm brand corned beef. Also, it was a bit salty. Oh well, just another dish to add to my 'Remember not to order again' list. read more

Young female servers are sassy and not well trained or just don't care about giving good service and I've witnessed on two occasions two different girls giving tables away to people they know while you keep waiting. This has happened before so I'm bringing it to the attention of fellow yelpers. Other than that everything I had there was delicious except for the brown banana pie. Don't get it confused with the banana cream cheese square which is my favorite. So if you enjoy great taste and don't care about service this is a place to definitely try but if you expect a good overall experience you might want to go elsewhere read more

I can't believe that I'm back here again. Unbelievably to me, a friend of mine loves their beef stew. He assured me that it's the best, selling out by noon. Ok, ok, whatever. I trekked over there and found the place to be quite busy, and wondering why. Well, there I stood in front of the cash register in the front of the restaurant. Waitresses were bustling about. Another worker, whom I thought was a bus boy because he kept filling water glasses. He saw me standing there without any acknowledgement. People came in after me and were seated quick enough. The waitresses saw me standing there without a word to me. Totally ignored me! Then a customer came to the front next to me to pay his bill. His waitress came rushing up to ring him up when I interjected that I had been waiting for 15 minutes. The customer apologized but all she said was that the cashier would be with me soon! I would have walked out but needed the gift certificate. Ugh. Finally, that guy whom I thought was the busboy was about to cross my path when I stopped him and ask where was their cashier? He mumbled something and I asked him to repeat himself. He said that he was the cashier. Well, I exploded asking why didn't he acknowledge me after I had been waiting here so long! He didn't answer. I told him that I needed a gift certificate. I then realized that he was a new employee because he needed to ask for assistance from one of the waitresses. Obviously he was ill trained. Not his fault but his manager should be reprimanded. This experience only solidified my previous rating no matter how good their beef stew may be. read more

Ended up eating here for dinner because Tanaka's Saimin had alot people of waiting in line. Haven't eat here in awhile,have always enjoyed their prime rib! Wife and I had the primerib special,little disappointed was not the same! The slices were too thin,kind of bland, had to add salt and pepper and was too dense.Only thing good was the au jus. My son had saimin with fries, he liked it. My daughter had the keiki spaghetti with garlic bread, she said she liked the spaghetti but not the garlic bread,"too much spices"she said. I decided to taste and she was right, all I could taste was bitter garlic, took another bite and had to spit it out! Worst garlic bread ever tasted! The desserts were pretty good, we had custard pies and the kids had jello.Our waitress was very nice and the service was excellent. This is a relaxing and casual place to eat dinner after work. I had the spicy pork - yum! It came on a sizzling platter and the spicy sauce was just right. Had the swiss steak special. Portion size and flavor were both very good. If you are feeling like meat and potatoes kind of meal, this is a great choice. Eagle Cafe has replaced New Eagle Cafe, which my family always enjoyed, but this new restaurant is so much better - brighter, a more inviting, comfortable atmosphere. The menu is smaller, but seems more thoughtful and carefully selected, keeping the old favorites (prime rib, chopped steak, beef tomato. . ). My mom and I have had dinner at the Eagle about three times and had great service, most recently from 'Steph,' who even remembered that mom had the tripe stew the previous time. Portions continue to be really generous, but I think more tasty . .I've ordered the mahi dinner twice because I love the light sauce with capers; really moist and tender. I hope the restaurant can attract the old New Eagle diners. . and become another local landmark. Only drawback: for now limited dessert choices. No ice cream, pie or pudding. Breakfast at New Eagle Cafe exceeded our expectations. The New York steak was grilled perfectly- tender and juicy. The banana pancakes were popular with the kids and I enjoyed the Belgian waffles with fresh cut strawberries. We really didn't know what to expect walking into this little cafe. The interior was finished with dark floors and laminate tabletops. Dim lighting created an intimate, cozy environment... Even for breakfast. This is a great place to bring your family...
