I stopped by Eagle Cap Grill for dinner on a Monday night and the place was packed! I quickly discovered this was for good reason. They have the best burger and tater tots I have ever eaten. The staff is incredibly nice and welcoming. And the environment is that of a hometown diner, many of the local families were gathered for dinner, with a few single table stragglers like myself also enjoying a delicious meal. This is our experience with the service we received. We came in. Ordered two salads to go. Paid. We offered seat to sit down and wait. We offered ice water. We were both looking at our phone. 30 minutes later. No salad. Other tables were receiving their foods. We went to the kitchen. The lady who took our order asked "Are you waiting for your order?" What kind of question was that?! Then she found out they didn't have our ticket although we paid 30 minutes ago. She made a new ticket for us. Ten minutes later, we finally received our salads. Then she forgot the salad dressing. When you don't see your order, check in with them and make sure they have your ticket. Sold to new owners and instantly took a nose dive in quality, as the new owners are obviously looking to cut costs and maximize profits and don't care about maintaining high quality standards. Just your average restaurant now, not great like it used to be. Fresh cream for coffee became creamer cups. Burgers went from thick, seemingly hand-made burgers to what appear to be frozen, thinner patties. They're hiring servers who can barely stay on top of two tables at a time. Was great while it lasted, but now it's just another diner. I used to go here habitually because it was so good, but now I'll be looking elsewhere, as the prices stayed the same but the quality has tanked. Just another case of greedy new owners trying to maximize profits without caring about their customer's high expectations. A tale as old as time. read more

We were passing by on our way to Idaho and we decided to stop here to eat. It had decent reviews so we decided to try it. We got the ribs with mashed potatoes and a salad for my wife and I got the soup which was practically clam chowder. The clam chowder was not good and had a weird texture. The main plate of ribs and mashed potatoes was actually really good. We would have given this place a higher rating but something happened that made it go lower. Our napkins had hair on them. Another Yelp winner! I looked at a number of reviews and decided to come in for a Saturday lunch. This was an excellent decision. I opted for a prime rib sandwich with Swiss cheese, and a side salad. Plus two local Barley Brown brews. The side salad was fresh, made with chopped romaine lettuce and some extra veggies. I ordered blue cheese dressing, which the waitress informed me was made in house. Excellent side salad. For the sandwich, the meat was thin-sliced, like a traditional French Dip, perhaps some pieces were a little dry, but the au jus was good, so it was delicious. The server, Michelle, was helpful and friendly. So to summarize, I had great service and excellent food, got to sit outside, snd walked away very satisfied. We stopped in on our way though on a road trip and boyyy are we sure glad we did! My husband and I both ordered the ribs-- 1 bbq and 1 bourbon glaze. DELICIOUS!!!!! And I can't believe the prices at only $13. My husband and kids ordered the buffalo chips for their side and the only problem with those is how addicting and yummy they are! It's a little off the main drag, so I didn't know it existed until I googled restaurants in Baker and it came up as an option. The night I went, the restaurant was pretty busy including with several very large groups who seemed to be celebrating special occasions. I can't say enough good things about Eagle Cap Grill. Our waitress was phenomenal! She was very nice, sweet to our kids and had a wonderful personality! She was on top of everything and checked in the right amount of times without being overbearing. There were 4 of us and we each had something different. Our daughter had the fettuccine and garlic bread, which was delicious and had a very generous portion. Our son had the fried cod with the sweet potato fries and absolutely loved it! It was light, flakey and crispy without being oily even though it was fried. The sweet potato fries were so good! The perfect balance of sweet and salty. I had the prime rib dip which was delicious with their au-jus. It was sooooo good!!! My husband had three prime rib burger and loved it! It was juicy and perfectly cooked!!! We ate here twice for take out during our three day stay in Baker City. Service is small-town friendly. Steak salads were great. The steaks were perfectly done with lots of flavor. Potato skin appetizers were fine. The fried cod was very good although the baked potato was on the dry side, even with all the trimmings. The one thing I would skip next time is the salmon. The lady at the motel recommended this place and the Yelp reviews were good so we decided to check it out. I had the club sandwich and she had the steak salad. Baker City is cattle country. She let me taste some of hers and the steak and marinade was amazing. Doh! I should have ordered the steak! The wait staff was fine but not outstanding. They were very friendly and chatty to the locals but to us not so much. I grew up in a "Townie" neighborhood so I do get it, but..... if you are wait staff all customers should be equal. You may want to keep looking for a decent place to eat!! When my wife and I arrived there were several empty tables. However, it still took an inordinate amount of time before we were seated. General overall first impression, dark, dirty and old. Then we had to wait at least 10-15 minutes to get water and a menu. Another 10-15 minutes elapsed before our orders were taken. Surprisingly, our orders came, almost timely. I had the flank steak, baked sweet potato and canned corn. My steak was warm(not hot), the baked sweet potato was cooked but it was cool/cold as was the canned corn. My wife had the ribeye, baked potato and canned corn. The requested medium rare steak was raw, a lot of gristle, fat and an overall poor quality meat. Her baked potato and canned corn were both cool/cold. The best part of the meal was the salad. We went there on a Sunday afternoon. The place was busy. It took a long time for the waitress to take our order for a Bourbon bacon hamburger & Fish & chips then a long time to receive our food. The fish came with vegetable beef soup that was loaded with veggies and a good amount of tender steak. Also, the plate had green beans cooked with bacon. My wife and I both liked the soup and beans.
