After my husbands 39th dose of chemo in the past 18 months for metastatic esophageal and liver cancer, he asked me to eat at Eagle Grill. This is special, he is only able to eat after receiving steroids with the chemo dose which allows his tumors to open up enough to get solid food past the obstructions. We sat at the bar as we have done a couple of times with his previous infusions. He asked for a chicken breast since he has cancer and is not able to eat much. Explained that he's had the kids portion previously. The bartender rudely replied, "we don't have a chicken breast on the kids menu" and proceeded to curtly list the items on the kids menu insinuating that my husband is a liar and there is no other option aside from "the entree". As a nurse of 33 years I am sickened and appalled that my clearly sick husband would be treated this way by anyone. Have a great day yourself Charlie. I won't be back EVER, especially after my husband's inevitable and impending death. Anyone who has a loved one that is ill and trying to live with their illness should never step foot in this place. read more

We've made it a tradition to stop here whenever we're driving through the area, even though we live on the other side of the state. I used to come here regularly years ago with my late husband and his family, and this restaurant has always held good memories for me. The crab cakes have always been the reason we come back. Unfortunately, this visit completely changed my opinion. We arrived during the dinner rush and were quoted a 35-minute wait. No problem. We stepped outside for a few minutes because there was nowhere to sit and then came back to wait. After noticing several parties being seated, my husband checked with the hostess. She immediately told us, with an attitude, that she had called us 20 minutes earlier and we weren't there. I understand that. We missed our name being called. That's not what bothered me. What bothered me was that she then told us she would try to find us a table, yet we watched multiple other parties continue to be seated while we were ignored. We would have happily taken any table available. When I politely asked why we still weren't being seated, no one could give us an answer. The manager, who was standing there the entire time, didn't try to de-escalate the situation. Instead, he repeated, "Well, she called you 20 minutes ago," with the same dismissive attitude. At no point did anyone acknowledge how frustrating the situation was or attempt to make us feel welcome. Eventually we were seated at a high-top, which was perfectly fine. Our server was kind and attentive, and the crab cakes were still good. She was the bright spot of the evening. What left the worst impression was that it became obvious employees were talking about us afterward. We never raised our voices or caused a scene. We simply wanted to understand why we kept being passed over after being told a table would be found for us. The owner was also there that evening. I wasn't looking for free food or a discount. A simple conversation or apology would have gone a long way, but instead he never approached us. After years of recommending this restaurant and making a point to visit whenever we're in the area, I'm incredibly disappointed. The food is still worth coming for, but the way we were treated by the hostess and manager made us feel like our business didn't matter. This is a little hole in the wall bar, when you walk in. Its like they don't let sunlight in. When you walk in you are immediately greeted. The staff there is pretty friendly. When we sat down, I had already gotten a recommendation that their crab cakes were amazing, but they were kinda pricey. I decided to go with the lobster roll, sweet potatoes, and blue crab bisque. The crab bisque was very fresh, lots of lump crab meat in it, I do wish the soup had a little more flavor. The lobster roll was on point, it had so much juicy lobster on this buttery bun. It tasted so fresh. The sweet potatoes tasted like they were my grandmother's Thanksgiving recipe, they were delicious! My friends had the crab cakes and the oysters. The crab cakes were made with so much fresh meat that is price them high too. All in all it was a great experience and our waiter was amazing. Got the double pork chop with sweet potato mash and it was really good. The pork chops were juicy, well-seasoned, and cooked just right. Big portion too, so definitely filling. The only reason I am rating this 4 instead of 5 stars is because I wasn't particularly blown away, but it was definitely decent food and the portions are huge. I think next time I would split the ultimate gumbo dish that I got. I might also try their deserts, I tried a bite of the key lime with raspberry filling and it was pretty good. We also shared fish dip and crab Rangoon as appetizers, the fish dip was very tasty but I didn't get a chance to try the crab Rangoon. The crab cake on top of my gumbo was very fresh, meaty and delicious. It was mostly lump crab meat with very little breading which is the way a crab cake should be. I would definitely come back, it is pretty crowded even for Florida's slower summer season, so I would recommend making a reservation for dinner. read more

The raw bar features fresh oysters and clams, shucked or streamed to order. Their specialties are crabcakes which they are known for, gumbo, baby back ribs, and a big 14 oz pork chop. I started with the Cherrystone Clams served with horseradish, cocktail sauce, and lemon wedges. Very good. Both my wife and I love crab cakes so we tried them , jumbo lump blue crab, just a smidgen of breading and dressing. remoulade sauce. Two as an entrée (served with two sides), One as a sandwich (with one side). Joined some family here and have been to Eagle Grill for years. Not aure why I have not reviewed it in the past. We stared with a bowl of conch chowder. Wow it was terrific, spicy red chowder with lots of conch in it. Crowded on a Sunday night at 6:30. We ordered Ipswitch Steamers, to start. My family ordered NOLA oysters. I decided to try the Gumbo which is one of the favorites of the place. the rest ordered Crab cakes. Probably the best crab cakes in the area mostly lump meat. I read all the posts about Eagle grill, so when I passed there during lunch time, I thought I'd give it a try. My eyes popped when I saw they had fried Ipswich clams. Ignoring the 34 dollar price tag, i took a shot. Here's the gist of the story. I was served a huge plate brimming with the seafood love of my life, they were cooked to perfection, and they had a decent consistency and were not offensive in any way. The big "but" is they didn't have that big ocean tasting explosion I expected. So they were ok but bland and I wonder what happened to that unique pop i got when eating steamers up north. Maybe they were cooked from frozen but I'll never know. In short, i thought they know how to cook but if I go back I'll stick to the mainstream. Their great service was appreciated. read more

We were two couple here for the first time. What a nice surprise from the moment we approached the venue. First it was in a very nondescript plaza but the patrons were lined up outside to enter. We were astonished. I checked in for our 7:15 reservation on Saturday night and they gave me a beeper. We were a little early but we were beeped right on time. We waited on the benches outside. The inside is very rustic - reminds me of a cabin - Brad , our waiter introduced himself and reviewed the highlights of the menu. We started with drinks, steamers and French Onion soup. All excellent. Then we had very delicious crab cakes- very little filler and generous portion which comes with two sides. I had broccoli and a baked potato. Our friend had the grouper special which she enjoyed and her husband had the pork chop but he felt that it lacked flavor. After hearing that we decided to leave. What also concerned us was how dirty it was. Dirty napkins on the floor, tables that weren't cleaned. Firstly, I do have to dispute my fellow Yelpers claims of unfriendliness and poor food quality. My Wife and her Brother both had the crab cakes. I tried it and it was very good perhaps better than 90% I have tried to date. I had the clams and they were fried to perfection, tasty and enough where I could not finish it. The fries were crispy yet not burnt. Their tartar sauce ( made in house) was amongst the best I haver had. A minor touch that I have experienced as awful the vast amount of times I have tried it in other establishments! The service was very friendly and accommodating! Wow! I eat at the Eagle pretty often but tonight was Outstanding. The service exceptional from the servers to the bus people . wow. Plus my mussels in white wine sauce with salad and over pasta was totally over the top. Who ever was the chef tonight totally the best ever. My food can't be compared to anything better. Fresh fish & seafood is my fave. I've been hearing about the Eagle since moving to Florida. They have a reputation for having the freshest fish, the best happy hour, delicious nightly specials & crowds. We came with another couple that dine here often. They made early reservations for a Tuesday evening, not in season. There was plenty of parking in front. This looks and feels like a casual local bar; nothing fancy. Our waitress was very efficient our food came out in no time and our table was quickly cleared. When we left, there were crowds waiting for tables to get inside. I started with a cup of crab chowder. It was sweet, silky, and creamy with lots of fresh crab meat. I ordered the crab cake platter with broccoli and a baked potato. The broccoli was excellent with lots of garlic and the potato was perfect too. But the crabcakes , really shine. There were big chunks of sweet fresh crab meat, little filler, the platter was too much for one person. All four of us had chowders with crabcakes, there was nothing leftover. We should have shared! There is a happy hour until 7 o'clock with 1/3 off drinks. I enjoyed my California Chardonnay. There are specials every night during the week except Friday and Saturdays. I drive 50 miles round trip to eat at Eagles Grill because it is amazing! I love the mussels in a very thick roma tomato sauce that is a meaning itself! Of course their crabcKes are the best around and it's difficult to decide what else to eat because of too many great choices.
