A tiny family run place (congrats again to their daughter on her award she was receiving that week!). The sandwiches are super massive, so one is plenty for two people to share along with a couple of sides. They packaged it all up for us nice so we could throw it in the car and eat on the go in the park. Aside from sandwiches they have tons of baked goods and a more hearty hot daily special. Though this place does not look great from the outside, my family really loved it. While driving up to the volcano we thought we'd stop for a quick lunch. We went inside and saw a small cafe with a short menu,but totally underestimated it. They were so friendly and helpful to us. My younger sister is very picky and they were able to make her a meal she could eat. I am 100% Portuguese and their Portuguese bean soup was spot on. Overall we really liked everything about this place including food, service, super awesome pricing and Just the general vibe there. We enjoyed it so much we returned there the next day for breakfast. Today I picked up a sandwich, some potato salad and a Diet Pepsi to take over to the Jaggar Museum in Volcanoes Park for lunch. You can choose your bread, your meat, your cheese and your vegetable garnishes. Keiko, the husband of the owner, made my sandwich while we enjoyed some "talk story". The potato salad is dangerously rich. The sandwich was on slices on bread which were huge. Cut in half to make it easier to handle, each half was the size of a typical deli sandwich. I ordered a pastrami sandwich on the cranberry Mac nut bread. I added all the veggies, including the pickles, mayo and Dijon mustard. Went here as a late lunch after a long day of hiking in the park. Chose it because it was open. It's not a place we would have likely stopped otherwise, as it's not much to look at and the overwhelming amount of religious paraphernalia plastered all around was a bit much. Got bread bowls with soup (boyfriend chose the Portuguese bean, I had the chili) and 1/2 sandwiches. The wait was long even though there weren't many people there. The sandwiches and soups were tasty but nothing to write home about; best part was the bread bowl itself. But the food hit the spot, so if Thai Thai down the street isn't open next time I'm hungry, I'll prolly go here again. read more
