    Bowl of gumbo
    Andrea Z.

Visited on a Monday night with a friend around 4pm, restaurant had only a few guests but plenty of open space so grabbed seats at the bar. Drinks: Frozen Gin and Tonic - fantastic, really great balance of sweetness and citrus/acidity, velvety frozen slushy texture, definitely worth a try if you like G&T's Food: Gumbo - so good, perfectly seasoned savory and spicy, generous with the sausage and shrimp in the gumbo, were with a little bit of rice on the bottom, perfect for a chilly night Clam toast - tasty, nice crispy crusty bread, topped with chopped clams sauteed in garlic butter, ontop of a creamy sauce and a bright refreshing salad, some clams had a slightly chewier texture is my only note but a delicious bite Market Veggies - roasted Brussels sprouts with sweet potatoes and cherry agridoche, hearty and filling, a little sweet from the cherries, a bit of tanginess from the vinegar, a great way to round out our late lunch, early dinner Service was awesome, super friendly staff with great recommendations. Very warm and friendly with great knowledge of the menu both food and drink. Overall had a great meal at Earl's Premier, such a treat for a cozy Monday date night. The variety on the menu is solid and truly some of the best gumbo I've had.

Okay so first off, Earl's Premier is cute cute. Chill patio, oysters on deck, and that elevated coastal vibe that makes you feel like you're on vacation even though you're still in Kansas City. I came through for a late lunch and ordered the Cod Sando with fries and a Fall Frozen Sangria. Let me just say this, that sandwich is basically the grown woman version of a McDonald's Filet O Fish in the best possible way. It's crispy, hot, and flaky with melty cheese, lettuce, and tartar sauce on a soft bun that holds it all together. Every bite was pure comfort. It gave fried fish Friday energy with first-class execution. I felt hugged and slightly reborn. The fries were golden, herby, and came out piping hot. Dipped in ketchup, they were perfect. The sangria was icy and strong enough to make me forget it was a Tuesday. Service was friendly and easygoing. Jessica R took great care of me and the vibe felt relaxed, not rushed. They had a bottle of water and glass already set up for self serve hydration which I loved. Overall, Earl's feels like the type of place you go for oysters and chill conversation, but you stay for the comfort food and good people watching. Would I go back? Absolutely. Next time I'm trying the grilled fish or something off the oyster menu. But for today, the Cod Sando did exactly what it needed to do. It reminded me that sometimes simple, crispy, and buttery wins the whole day.

I hate to update my review for Earl's as it's long been one of my fiancé's and my favorite spots but our recent visit was a real miss. I specifically chose Earl's over several other favorites to celebrate my birthday (on a Wednesday) and unfortunately, the experience was so disappointing. We spent over $200 on food and enjoyed very little of it. The fried fish and oysters were solid, but every crab and lobster dish we ordered was -quite frankly- bad. The flavors were off and the quality was not what I've come to expect from Earl's. Our server was wonderful and genuinely tried to make things right, but the GM only comped one item so that left us with a $240 tab for a meal that fell completely flat. I left my birthday dinner wishing I had gone anywhere else.

Food amazing. Plate styling superb. Not only did the food taste great it looked great. Great mix of sides with main course. Service was on par. Never ran out of water continuously checked on our table throughout the meal. Nice patio seating. Was greeted at the door right when we came in. Taken right to our table exactly on our reservation time. Very clean and quaint restaurant atmosphere. Drinks were excellent. Mixed with perfection. I had the chicken salad sandwich. You could tell it was made with fresh ingredients. Side salad was sweet with a slight lemon twist. Bacon wrapped shrimp for an appetizer. Excellent. Hush puppies with honey. Amazing. Crab cakes amazing. Awesome meal. Now go get you some.

Such a great seafood spot! The clam chowder was one of the best I've had in a long time. It's very rich, flavorful, and packed with seafood. The fish & chips were also excellent, crispy on the outside with a light breading that didn't feel heavy at all. The only downside is that the inside of the restaurant can get pretty loud, so it's not the easiest place to have a conversation. But if you're here for the food (and you should be), it's absolutely worth it.

It's time for Earl's to mix it up a bit. This is the third time I've gone and it's getting harder to find something I want to order off the menu. The menu hasn't changed much since I've first eaten there. Great option if you love fresh oysters as they are flown in daily. The fish of the day was Salmon, a pretty boring option considering you can get salmon anywhere. I would expect something more exciting from a top notch seafood restaurant. The frozen gin and tonic is delicious and truly the only cocktail there I have ever enjoyed. I wanted very much to order something new this time but ended up with my tried and true mussels with grilled bread. It's a great vibe whether you eat at the bar or in the covered patio. Service is pretty good if not a little slow. The outdoor area is good for those with children. Good for a happy hour as I think the apps are more interesting than the mains. Tried the pimento spread and it was delicious with the homemade chips. May have to take a bit of a break from visiting for a while.

We made a reservation here and they were pretty booked out so knew it had to be good! Our server was great in talking us through what to order for our first time here. We were told that we had to try the crab cake which did end up being our favorite. All the food was very delicious and flavorful and had lots of great options! It was very hole in the wall / tight seating but really didn't feel like it once we were sitting down. So glad we got to try Earl's and can't wait to come back!!!

This place was hopping! Tables and bar all full and alive! Service was great! Food was as to die for! We got the seafood tower and the wagyu burger. The tots were cooked to perfection! We will be going back I can't wait to try more!

Wow, this was super yummy! We started off with cocktails, I had the tulum raider which was not the best cocktail I've had in my life but it was still pretty good, my husband had the frozen rum runner and neither of us cared for it much. Then we had a bowl of the clam chowder, it was super creamy and had lots of clam in it, it also had large chunks of pork belly. It came with two toasted saltine crackers that were delicious kc I thought the chowder could use a touch of salt but my husband thought it was perfect. Overall it was really yummy. Them we had the little gem salad, we split the portion which they brought out on separate plates which was a nice touch! The salad itself was 10/10! The perfect amount of dressing, the cheese was so fresh and delicious. The letter was perfectly and the croutons were fantastic as well. And the star of the salad were the anchovies, we each got 3 on our portions and they were so salty and delicious.al after we said we should have ordered extra anchovies for our salad we loved them so much. We had the No. 1. Seafood tour as our main course. All of the oysters were really good. We did ask for hot sauce as we like it on our oysters but we didn't care for the hot sauce they provided, which is fine the oysters were amazing without! The shrimp were HUGE and I loved the cocktail sauce they came with, it had plenty of horseradish in it which I love! The crudo was good but the sauce on it was on a sweeter side, I still enjoyed it but I prefer more savory for my palette. And the scallop tataki was so creamy and delicious. We got a key lime cheesecake to go because we were so stuffed, ate it at home and it was very good, not too sweet! The place is very small with no parking so prepare for street parking and make sure to make a reservation! We also thought it was a little loud inside but it was tolerable! Our server was very nice and attentive as well. Overall we loved this place and can't wait to come back

Wonderful bday lunch with my son. We love fresh oysters we did 2 of each they offered. Then we enjoyed a cup of clam chowder it was so flavorful and creamy I love they put a clam in there. Next we had their Bang mussels we went with toasted bread instead of fries to soak up the delicious sauce. It was my bday lunch and she gave me a Madagascar, vanilla, bean ice cream drizzled with olive oil and flakes salt. It was the absolute best end to lunch! The wait staff is so attentive and knowledgeable about all the oysters. They offer very accommodating. I love the decor and the vibe of the restaurant. Their music was so on point. It was so nice to sit and enjoy my cocktail listening to the music. It's a small place, but so intimate and cool and you can tell they really put a lot of thought and care into serving the freshest and best food they can

An absolute Kansas City gem! Not sure how it took me to learn about this spot but I'm glad I finally did! The vibe was impeccable I could almost imagine I was on the coast somewhere. Our server provided excellent recommendations and the food more than spoke for itself. Can't recommend this spot enough and can't wait to come back again and again!

I thought of my parents after getting settled in at the bar. This is the type of old school neighborhood bar and restaurant that my parents would take me as a child. The booths along the wall, the outside deck, muted TV's with golf and the NFL draft above the bar, christmas lights strung along the ceiling... all triggered magical memories of visiting places such as Bob Ford's Canteen, Joe's Bar and Grill, The Liberty Bell... as a child. The menu has all the standards from steak, chops, burgers, sandwiches, pizzas, salads...something for everyone in the family. I ordered the Posnanski's Chicken Spiedini - named for Joe, the former KC resident and sportswriter that I assume was a regular when he worked for the KC Star. The dish was a plate of spaghetti in a tomato pesto sauce topped with a long skewer of chicken spiedini then topped with a fresh tomato heavy marinara and two slices of garlic toast. A fantastic and perfectly sized entree. To go along with the good food and vibe was the service. My waitress / bartender was friendly and engaging and the jovial owner came over twice to chat about sports and follow up on my meal. Another mature lady (owner's wife? / manager?) not only asked me about my dish but asked if I'd order it again and what modifications I would make. If you've read my past reviews, you know how much customer service means to me, and Governor Stumpy's is nailing it. I also had a nice chat with a gentleman sitting at the bar discussing food and Kansas geography. A perfect little afternoon in Waldo. An easy five stars and wishing that I lived in the neighborhood. A new favorite.

It was mostly empty as it turned out but that meant we were able to get prime seats at the bar in front of the tv. The array of German bier offerings is exceptional. I appreciated the lower alcohol choices as well. The interior is, as the name implies, like a small beer hall, with long tables for gathering with new friends. Also ideal for putsches. The outdoor seating is a strong point. Serene, softly lit and spacious. The bartenders were business like friendly, they really don't want to hear your sad stories. The only downside was that they quit serving beer at halftime of the game we were watching. The game that went into extra time and on to penalty kicks. So we sat there for an hour and a half, thirsty, pockets full of unspent cash, watching the game while the neglected taps mercilessly mocked us. It honestly seemed baffling and inane beyond belief. Still, looking forward to a return trip when they're more willing to part with their delicious brews.

They offer German food that historically pairs with beer. I've always enjoyed the appetizers. They have a happy hour from 4-6 p.m. In the winter they usually run a special where you get a discount for sitting outside in the cold. I've done that a few times. Their calendar is always chock-full of events, so I recommend checking out their social media accounts to look for something fun.

We were meeting to take care of some college business over lunch, and Chastity was our server (as well as the daytime bartender, which was handy!). She was friendly and so helpful with the menu (it was my colleague's first visit), and gave us recommendations for food as well as drink pairings. She stopped by as we were enjoying our meals, to ensure that everything was going well, and when we asked if we could continue to occupy the table (to finish our meeting, which ended up lasting 90 minutes), she was more than happy to accommodate us. I had the Impossible Burger (my first time trying one) and it was DELICIOUS! I have friends who are vegetarians and often have difficulty with plant-based hamburgers because of the texture, but this was perfect and honestly tasted just like beef. The toppings were fabulous and I was able to upgrade to sweet potato fries (from regular fries) for no extra charge. What a deal! I paired my lunch with a can of non-alcoholic Sam Adams IPA (another first try), and it was super-tasty! My colleague ordered Big Gary's meatloaf and said it was wonderful. Pro tip for conducting a meeting at The Red Door: The high-top tables in the bar area near the front door are quieter than the main dining room, due to the location of the music system's speakers. We had the table in the corner, and there was minimal traffic and it was easy to speak to each other. Again, MANY thanks to Chastity--and to the cooks in the kitchen--for such a great experience and helping to make our lunch meeting a success! We really appreciate you!

He helped make sure the dishes were prepared properly and safely, which we really appreciated. I believe his name was Chris. Service overall was very good. The server checked on us just right. We never needed to seek him out and he was always there right when we needed something. The only small issue with service was when we asked for extra sauce. It never came even though someone who was not the server took the request. We made reservations and specifically asked to be sat in the mezzanine because it was a big celebration. That request was not acknowledged. It would be helpful if they considered those seating preferences when they are offered as an option. We did not notice a changing table in the bathrooms. Now that we have a child and cannot always find a sitter, we pay more attention to things like that. Overall it was a good meal with tasty food and attentive service. A couple of small things kept it from being perfect, but we enjoyed it and would return.
