We went to eat here due to the good reviews and proximity to our place of stay. This place was busy and the staff was not very friendly. The food was descent though. I got the big bird special which was good, except the bacon was cold. The home potatoes and biscuits were very good. My wife got a French toast comb, which she also felt was average at best. We both stuck with ice water for a beverage and it tasted terrible. I recommend staying away from drinking it, kinda tasted like dishwater. In all, I felt it was an over priced breakfast place. Since this is one of very few places to eat downtown Pine, theses places hike up the prices on food and groceries since people will gladly pay for convenience. read more

We chose this place for breakfast while visiting Strawberry, AZ. I wasn't impressed with the food. The pancakes were undercooked and hard to swallow, the French toast was super dense and also doughy. I will recommend the scrambled eggs and breakfast potatoes if you decide to give them a try. The pancakes were the size of a small pizza. We stopped for breakfast at 7:00 am on a Wednesday while driving from Winslow to Gilbert, AZ. The food was tasty, plentiful and served hot! It was truly delicious but we could only eat half due to the quantity. The waitress, Shannon, was incredibly attentive. As I mentioned, the food was served as soon as it was off the skillet, the toast was pre-buttered, and our coffee was refilled 3 times. The perfect small town breakfast shop! Food was excellent and fast and service was great! They get people in and out but don't pressure you if you want to stay and hang out for a while. I am so happy I checked Yelp for breakfast! I've been to a cabin out in this neck of the woods several times, with people who have been out there dozens of times, and nobody had ever heard of this place. You get mountains of food for a very affordable price point, and the food is good, old-fashioned, southern comfort like gramma used to make. I'll be coming back for more of The Big Bird Breakfast. We were a little jarred when the first waitress to come up literally threw our menus on the table and just said "Whaddaya want to drink?" with no intro or anything. Happened on in here for lunch, and we were glad we did. The place reminds me of the kinds of places I grew up in, having been the son of a truck driver. It's a true locals hangout, but plenty of highway travelers stop in, too. My wife and I decided on breakfast for lunch, since they serve breakfast all day. First, let me say that the food you get for the price is amazing, and I especially appreciate any restaurant that serves breakfast combinations that include carbs and proteins together. Why do so many restaurants that serve breakfast always serve pancakes and French toast a la carte? Normally, if you want to add an egg or sausage or something like that, they charge you an arm and a leg. Not here. For example, I ordered the pancake combo, which featured two pancakes, two eggs, and two slices of bacon. (You can get other meats if you prefer.) My wife chose an omelet with breakfast potatoes and a pancake. Neither of our meals cost more than $9.50. And let me say something about that "side" pancake that came with my wife's order. It was perhaps the largest pancake I have ever seen--and thick, too! Most places give you some tiny little pancake as a side, but not Early Bird. As for my pancakes, they were barely smaller, and I had two of those bad boys. Size is one thing, though, and taste is another, and these did not disappoint. They were some of the best--if not the best--pancakes I have ever eaten--fluffy, but not too airy, and a hint of vanilla, if I'm not mistaken. And the bacon was super delicious, too. The next day, we went back for a true lunch, with my wife ordering the stuffed bell pepper soup with a half turkey sandwich and me ordering a French dip with potato salad. The turkey sandwich was standard, but the soup was hearty and delicious. The French dip was the one miss--very rubbery and not very tasty, but our friendly server happily replaced it with a bacon cheeseburger I requested and then comped us for the trouble. That's great service. I think the other reviewers on here who knocked the service have perhaps never eaten in a small-town, "no frills" eatery like this. If you visit, I would encourage you not to confuse genuine, real people who don't put on airs as rude. Not the same thing at all. It's refreshing to be treated just like the guy who lives down the road. I definitely recommend a stop at the Early Bird Cafe. We will be back anytime we spend time in Pine. read more

I shared some biscuits and gravy, tried some corned beef hash, and had the 2 pancake breakfast. The pancakes were huge and took up the whole plate. The taste itself was light, fluffy, and cooked perfectly. It was served with some whipped butter and syrup. The biscuits were equally huge, light, and fluffy, with a generous portion of gravy with large chunks of sausage in it. The corned beef hash was really salty and hard to eat though. They seemed understaffed when we went, on a busy Sunday morning. As a result, service was slow and the waitresses did not have the most pleasant attitude, to say the least. Word of warning as well. The bathroom was disgusting and reminded me of a bathroom you might go to if you are in an institutionalized setting. I don't even know what was on that seat, nor could I get it off with toilet paper... Despite the good breakfast, I'd probably try another breakfast spot in the area if I'm here again due to the service and lack of cleanliness in the bathroom. read more

Such a solid breakfast place. They have the best pancakes that are the size of a small pizza. They are impressive and delicious. I dare say they are perfect. The food comes out quick and I love that they give you a cute piece of fruit with your meal as if this piece of melon is going to cancel out this giant plate of biscuits and gravy that is on its way to clog my arteries. A friend and I stopped in at the Early Bird Cafe near closing after a long day of visiting some local National parks (I know, cringy coming in close to closing, but we were excited to try this place out!). Nonetheless, the staff was friendly and attentive to giving us excellent service. The food was ready within 5-10 minutes of ordering, hot and fresh, and the waitresses made sure our drinks never got too low. Stopped in for a late breakfast with my kids. No wait, which was nice. Staff was friendly. We all thought the food was delicious. We had eggs, bacon, hash browns, pancakes, toast, coffee and tea. All was good, except the strawberries on the pancakes tasted a little funky. But the pancake itself was great. The service wasn't bad but it was a little unclear who our actual server was because it seems like they all just jump around and I would have liked someone to check on us right after the food was served because we still were waiting for waters and needed more napkins. Perfect little breakfast spot in our peaceful, sleepy town. There's not many places to grab a coffee and a good breakfast here in town but this is my favorite place to go to do just that! Seems that locals and travelers love this place, I see all walks of life come through here. The staff is very friendly and easy going, happy to talk to you and serve whatever you need. Also a good spot to check out what local services are offered in town with their bulletin board in front. The views from their front patio are great too. My favorite thing here is the "stacked" biscuits and gravy, which is a biscuit topped with eggs, sausage and then covered in gravy. Leaves me stuffed and still craving for more. They also have a special in the early mornings for breakfast, so if you are up before 7:30am, go down for a cup of coffee and warm delicious breakfast! read more
