We had a party of eight after an 8th grade graduation. We were there for lunch and ordered various plates and all tasted great. They gave us churro squares as appetizers that were free. I don't know if they do that all the time or just because this was a graduation party. In any case just the gesture earn them another star. I am gluten free so they were careful with my order. I think this place is a hidden gem in Chicago. I ordered the steak chilaquiles and they were absolutely amazing! The steak reminded me of back home in Tucson--those classic carne asadas. I was pleasantly surprised that it came with a quesadilla too, which was the perfect touch. Another highlight was the outstanding service from our servers, Joseph and Martin. They were incredibly kind and attentive. The owner even came out to ask how the food was, and honestly, I was so impressed by the flavors that I almost wanted to hug him--I hope I didn't creep him out! I've been wanting to try EMD for a few months now. I'm glad I did. They have a nice size menu of several Mexican style breakfast dishes. The chorizo avocado toast was tasty with a little of that chorizo kick! To balance it out, a side order of a single pancake with maple syrup and butter dis the trick:) The servers are friendly. Overall, food was pretty good. I was super disappointed because I came for the guava pancakes which are advertised on their website and available in an online order. They advertised guava French toast inside on the menu board but when I asked to upgrade to guava pancakes, the waiter said they only have French toast. I asked to do the same toppings but on pancakes and he said they actually don't have guava... but then my friend ordered a guava smoothie and it's likely the same syrup. Kinda ridiculous. Anyway... did a BYO scramble and it was tasty. Came with toast and potatoes. Potatoes were good but pretty oily, ended up blotting them on my napkin before eating. Scramble was tasty. Def smaller portions for the price than other places bc they up charge for everything. I was charged $2 for spinach and had literally two spinach leaves in my scramble. Vegetarian options are available but not as tasty. Breaded mushroom, did me so, so wrongly. The brunch spot is a small sized cafe. So call ahead for a table. I got the breakfast burrito special which was HUGE. Took home half for later and still huge. Loved it. Super good sauce and composition - stayed wrapped for a few hours of being carried around in a box in a bag so good work there. Service was good, it's a busy, cramped, but quiet place where you can still have a conversation. My cappuccino was undrinkable and unsalvageable though. I asked for a table for two and was told I would have to wait since there were no tables available. There in fact was a table available... a four seater where one of the chairs had been taken by another group. When I asked about it, they said "that's meant for a larger party" Asked again after about 5 mins and they double downed that I could not be seated. This place seems to be a little secret because there weren't many people here but it's a lovely breakfast spot. I parked on Irving Park Road right by the front door easily and there were many other open spots. The server was very good and their food is delicious. I will definitely be back for breakfast. I highly recommend this place and worry that it's going to become crowded once the secret gets out about how good they are. It was a breakfast menu with a lot of Latin American influences, done with incredible attention to detail on a really high level. I likened it to The Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club (which is near us). I wish I had taken photos of the food! The French toast was *bruleed* with the bananas on top, bruleed, as well, for this AMAZING sweet, crispy on the outside, pillowy on the inside texture. The flavors on my skillet meal were INCREDIBLE and unexpected. So amazing. We will definitely be back! One more thing... the customer service was AMAZING! We showed up with a party of six and were greeted with fresh, homemade donuts with a peanut butter and jelly drizzle, and then, were extremely well taken care of throughout service with hot coffee and refills. Hello 2023! So first time trying this newer neighborhood breakfast spot. Got the artichoke omelette which came with potatoes and toast and fruit. I will say the omelette was pretty tasty! Thought there was a decent amount of veggies and cheese. The potatoes were seasoned well and toast was tasty. I will say that I wish the fruit was more than just melon, but I don't really eat melon and love berries more! For the amount of food I got, I would say the price was decent as well. Not crazy expensive but not bargain diner prices either. I thought it was fine, though. Since this was a takeout order, I can't judge how it is to dine in here.
