I grew up in east derry New Hampshire and lived right up the street from this little store for 19 years. I was in town today on September 26 and I stopped by the store around 5:40 PM. When I first pulled in I didn't walk right into the store as I was looking for a change in my center console.. I forgot my card but knew I could get 2 biscuits with some change. I was hungry and needed something for the ride home. As I'm walking into the store Lena, one of the store owners is walking out of the store at the same time...... so I politely greet her. this woman doesn't say a thing to me turns bck in and continues to walk towards the front counter, I continue towards the biscuit stand that you have to pass to get to the front counter, I actually stop her before she gets completely behind the counter and say, "can I actually have two biscuits please?" with no response, She goes to grab the tongs at the stand to get me biscuits. it comes time to pay and I end up having to go back out to my car to get more change, I was $.10 short for the biscuits. I come back in, give her the change I was short and this woman is still silent.. actually hasn't said a single thing to me this entire transaction. Upon leaving she gives me my biscuits and I decide to confront her, I told her, "do you wanna know it's crazy? (she looks up at me finally making eye contact with me) I've Been coming to this store for 19 years As I grew up right up the street and you have not greetEd me once." I shook my head and proceeded to walk out. Instead of showing any empathy instead of recognizing the awkward silence coming from her, She throws her arms up and continues to yell, "I don't work here!" I don't respond And (she didn't think I heard this) Continue to walk out to my car, under her breath but really not that quiet she mumbled, "you stupid..." And then the door closed behind me so I didn't hear what else she said but I did in fact hear her say "!! you stupid..." what happens after people of the store and other customers see this review isn't on me. I'm doing my part right now, cuz I will stand up for my feelings and in this feeling I felt profiled. I was one of two cars in the lot when she decided to come check on me outside, the other vehicle owner was already inside. this post needs to be seen. Secondly, how am I stupid Becuz you didn't greet me in your place of business that's I'm supporting? I grew up going to that store and absolutely love it. My bro asked me about the store cuz I made a post just yesterday (9/25) and I excitedly and happily told him about how the store expanded so much !!!! I know that Sam would say I have a familiar face, I am of the small population of black folk who grew up in Derry New Hampshire, was their from 02 to 2017. Sam has always greeted me with an enormous smile asked me how I was doing , as well as, telling me to have a great day or a great night. For his co partner, his wife, whatever she is to the store, to just completely ignore the fact that I was offended she didn't greet me, and instead of showing any empathy or remorse she barked back at me with a comment and then proceeded to call me a stupid something as I'm walking out; Is unacceptable to me as a human being. there are only two reasons I'm making a review, I also never make reviews but this time is necessary. the reasons: 1 this woman treated me poorly and I've been supporting her store since Before I could support myself, 2 I ALSO received the two most hard non fresh biscuit's out of the whole bunch. East Derry Tavern - Black burnt biscuit crumbs on one of my biscuits - American Near Me - Derry, New Hampshire

The east Derry Tavern is located downstairs inside the east Derry general store. It recently opened and being as I often go to the store I figured I had to try out the food. I came in had two drinks (generous pours) a side of onion rings and a side of chicken fingers. The onion rings were slightly over cooked but tasty all the same, the chicken tenders appeared to be hand cut and were also delicious. Both sides came with great house made sauces, one a house honey mustard and the other called molly sauce which if I remember correctly is something mixed with horseradish. Service was great and the place appeared tidy. Overall a great experience and I will def be back to try some of the Indian cuisine on the menu. They do a house naan of the day and some other Indian dishes that I will certainty be trying out. read more

Found this during a search for dinner near the Tupelo. Great find. Varied menu, old standbys done with a new twerk. I had the grilled vegetable salad with added shrimp. My husband and I had dinner here on a Saturday night. There's a decent amount of tables and a big bar. The parking lot and entrance are in the back. I wish I could remember the name of our server, because she was awesome. They have a pretty impressive draft beer list. For dinner I had the Cuban and my husband had the pulled pork. Was a complete waste. Ordered pick up was in the hospital for 7 hours and starving and the food still wasn't satisfying, not to mention for the value you would think you would get more food. First time customers, menu is all over the place. When i looked at the menu i didn't know if it was owned by An Indian family but i love Indian food so i figured let's try it out. There's a couple Indian plates, in my opinion if you don't expertise you probably shouldn't feature a speciality. I got the shrimp tandoori.. the seasoning was very dry and thick you get about 5 or 6 pieces no vegetables and a slaw portioned out about a tablespoon that is literally diced up raw lettuce and pepper which was bland. Garlic naan was ok definitely the best part of the meal. I also ordered basmati rice, it was horrible. It was incredibly bland, a little bit of salt wouldn't hurt. read more

My husband's Nor'Easter Grilled Cheese is a grilled cheese sandwich with slow cooked pot roast on thick sour dough bread and was mouth watering tender and delicious. Everything was hot and crispy! I live right down the street from this place , but have never tried it. Usually it is Halligans, T-Bones, or Stumble Inn. Well, we should have stuck with one of the usuals because the food really wasn't very good. The waitress was ok. The place was very clean, but for what we paid, the food was 100% not as good as the other places, nor did you get as much food. They don't have many choices for appetizers, one type of nachos with Indian chicken,and we tried it. Most places you can't finish the nachos because they are loaded.This was about 25 chips with a little bit of stuff in the middle...and it wasn't good. The sandwiches were ok, but didn't have a lot of taste. They need to step up the menu and give you what you pay for.We won't go back. read more

So we live in Chester, and take out for delivery is very limited around here . After getting tired of the same old grub hub resturaunt we order from , we decided to look up door dash and this resturaunt was on the delivery list. THANK GOD! Went there for dinner tonight for the first time. It's a cozy place with a decent amount of tables and a good sized bar. Food was very good especially the tandoori chicken nachos--AMAZING! Reason for 4vs 5 stars was because the door is right next to the tables and every time it opened a huge cold draft went all the way down the restaurant and it was cold! Some people kept their jackets on. The heat didn't seem to be able to compensate for the coldness coming in. Came here last year and loved it .. decided to try again with friends. I called at noon and they said they could add my name and they would see me at 6, Showed up - packed , and no table. Told 30 minute wait. That was ok .. we sat at bar and they would let us know when a table opened . The tensile bartender was very friendly ! After 45 minutes .. I asked the hostess how much longer it would be she said I don't know maybe 30 minutes . .. maybe she was new. We finally got a table ... and had the nicest waitress . Had grapefruit martinis they were terrific ...ordered nachos, Buffalo won tons , tour of India, thai chicken sandwich, ribs, and Buffalo flatbread Nachos were great ... the won tons were ok , a little soggy . Ribs were a big hit ! My friend said Chicken sandwich was ok, the piece of meat was huge , she didn't love the crust -but the sauce was good . The Buffalo flatbread was ok he said . My Indian dish was chicken that was slightly spicy , very tender . Had two sauces , one was a mint sauce . There was a deep fried samosa , it was tasty . The slaw was good . Heard this was a good place for martinis. My two girlfriends and I decide to go in last Monday (8/17) for half of martinis. There was no where but outside to sit so we agreed to sit out there no problem. It took our waitress 25-30 to come over to our table just to greet us. She apologized and informed us that she was the only one outside. Which doesn't make any sense if there is a special going on (half off martinis) they should have MORE servers on not less. So we finally get to order our drinks and we wait 1 whole hour to receive them. Our food came out before our drinks. We were told our ticket was lost. We received our bill and was charged for all 3 martinis. We are very unhappy with how we were treated and will not be returning. They need more servers on Monday night and they should be taking off drinks if they admitted they lost our drink ticket and had us waiting an hour just to get our first one. The chicken tikka masala was surprisingly flavorful! I ordered mild and it was pretty spicy for mild, if you don't like spice order extra mild. I would have expected more rice, the container was not full. The Taste of India dinner was NOT worth getting, the chicken breast was dry and had no flavor, the slaw was metallic and had no flavor. The only good thing was the samosa and mint sauce. It was crunchy on the outside and creamy with potato and pea on the inside. The beer battered satay chicken was not what I expected. It was rock hard with the crunchy ramen noodle coating, the peanut sauce was too sweet and the portion was HUGE, looked like a full pound of chicken, 3 large skewers. Shush a shame it was not good. Decided to give this place a shot last night upon hearing great things from family and friends. First off the beer selection was awesome. Plenty of great IPAs, stouts and more to choose from. We decided to start off with the chicken tenders app and a couple beers. The chicken seemed tough/over cooked and the "house" honey Dijon sauce tasted quite like Kens bottled sauce. Is it me or does $12 for 6 thin strips of chicken seem overpriced? I shrugged it off and moved onto the entrees. I decided for the Couch Potato. Angus beef burger with onions and cheese. I asked for medium rare, burger came out well done. The bun was twice the size of the burger, it came with a few thin slices of raw onion, and it seemed like the burger had no flavor/seasoning. My girlfriend ordered a shrimp salad. The shrimp was charred, tough, and over cooked however she seemed to enjoy the replacement that was brought for her. I insisted on spending the rest of dinner enjoying the company of my girlfriend however the waitress insisted on bringing out a replacement burger which was very nice of her! The second burger came out just as overcooked as the first. Medium well at best. This is the first time I've ever walked out of a food establishment with as much disappointment as this. There are so many other options for great pub/tavern food in the area. Steer clear of this place unless you solely plan on getting drinks with some friends. read more

Newly opened Tavern in the rear of an established local store renowned for one of the best craft beer assortment in NH. Small but not cramped with many taps of interesting beers. Staff very personable and attentive. Eclectic menu featuring a combination of pub fare and Indian cuisine. Nor'easter grilled cheese with pot roast was fabulous - side of pot roast gravy to dip the excellent fries in. Only gripe is when busy it is VERY loud and conversation difficult. I have been to the East Derry Tavern four times since they have opened. I was there on Sat night. We sat outside under the tent they have. The server was friendly and attentive. The drinks took for ever to get to the table, the server apologized for this. I guess the bartender does not know what they are doing. The food came out 45 mins after we ordered it. $24 dollars for 3 small steak tips! are they crazy! and the food was cold. I went inside to use the restroom, I had to wait for someone to come out, so while I was waiting I was watching the bartender. He looked like he got out of a hippy bus, his hair looked dirty. He looked like he was confused and had no idea what he was doing. He was not wearing a mask and the bar was filthy. Wow!!! Having some of he best baked haddock I've ever had!!! It's on the menu as fried but they baked it for me due to a food allergy I have. The food is great, the service is great and my husband and I are having an incredible dinner!!! Tuesday night they have Indian food along with their regular menu. Can't wait to try that. Last night, went to the East Derry Tavern for my birthday, with family. All the dishes we ordered got raves - Indian Chicken Salad, Tour of India, and Chicken Tikka Tacos. The staff is friendly, explained the dishes well, and accommodated modifications to ingredients. This is my second time there (the first was during a Tuesday Indian food night), and will definitely be back. Love the craft beers as well! read more

My husband grew up in the UK where Indian food is everywhere...this is one of the only places that lives up to his expectations! First time eating at the tavern. I knew 2 things for certain going in. 1) The beer menu would be fantastic because of the great selection in the store. 2) The host would be fantastic. Just from shopping at the store over the years and speaking with the owner on many occasions albeit usually very briefly. He takes pride in his work and goes to great lengths to please his customers. Even after having a horrible day, somehow I would always leave the store with a smile and not just because I was leaving with some fantastic beer & Krispy Krunchy Chicken, lol. I was only there to meet a friend for a couple beers on a Tuesday night. I had already eaten and had no interest in ordering food. My friend suggested I at least look at the menu and he let me know that Tuesday night they offer Indian Cuisine, in addition the regular dinner menu. Per "Sam's" suggestion we both had Chicken Tikka masala with Garlic & Cilantro Naan bread to dip in the sauce. One of the best meals I have had in quite some time. I will eventually try other dishes at the Tavern, but it's going to take some time. I am not one to frequent an establishment, like a "townie" With that said, I could see myself being a Tuesday Tikka Townie with staff asking, "the usual Mr. Y? Went there a couple of weekends back. It was definetly the most difficult resturant to find. Poor signage and in the back of the building but definitely worth finding. We went by it twice and we are from the area. Got the tandori chicken. I have never had traditional indian food before so I can not compare, but I loved my dish! I can't wait to go back and have it again. Place is small, newly remodeled and very clean. Service was great. Atmosphere was loud it was a crowded Saturday night.
