I usually come on Sundays and they are always so busy. I love their dim sum. They do not disappoint with their varieties. The only thing is that they may run out of food and there may be a little wait. I suggest come early and not rush so you can get the full experience of dim sum. They have made to order items such as rolled rice paper cake, Chinese broccoli. They have a little menu and comes around each table to ask you if you want to order them. My favorites are still shrimp ha cao, shrimp siu mai, all the dumplings, chicken feet, bbq pork buns, tripes, egg tarts, and sesame balls. I always leave with a full stomach. read more

This is my second time trying this place and I will say the second time was much better than the first. I've only tried their dim sum and it's pretty good. Atmosphere It started to get busy around 11:30/12. I honestly think that's key because that meant food was fresh and hot when being served via a push cart. The restaurant is fairly large. It's basically in the shape of an L and it was super busy on the opposite side of where we're sitting. I think it's because those are larger tables and bigger groups were seated that way. It wasn't too crowded which made things more comfortable to eat and talk. Food We chose some of the staple dim sum foods. Beef Tripe, Chicken Feet, Shrimp Shumai, Hai Gao, Portuguese egg custards tarts, fried shrimp balls and not pictured is the steamed shrimp rolls. Everything this time was pretty good and fresh. My favorites were the shrimp shumai and chicken feet. If you haven't tried them, you're missing out! It's sweet, spicy and savory. Yummm! Service One of my favorite things about going for dim sum is when they push carts around so you can see what's available. The waitresses were nice and asked if we wanted everything. Only heard about East Pearl in Duluth a few weeks ago. We have been dim sum fans for decades, and east pearl is the best in a long time. (Need to go to NYC Chinatown next time we are there. But Duluth beats buford hiway and San Francisco. Really) They open for seating at 1030 on weekends. The will come around with picture cards for the long cooking items (20 minutes). Ie bbq spare ribs; and Cheung Fun (Steamed Rice Noodle Rolls). They had shrimp, pork, and plain. Perfectly fresh so best . (Previously, Daughter always ate the rice noodles and gave us shrimp filling. The pork filling was delicious The carts started coming around about 10 minutes later. We ordered too much because we tried lots of new items, including Tofu in sweet sauce, and sweet rice noodles (like cake slices). We had all the standards too : shrimp dumplings, pork sui mai, and baked BBQ pork buns, and sweet buns. The two fried shrimp dishes were even very good. Good taste and not over cooked :) Three things we missed were shrimp sui mai, scallion cake and soup dumplings (siu luhng bao). I don't know if they have the soup dumplings, that's harder to find Bottom line: food was great. Only thing I didn't like was the taro cake- but thats just me. Service. Excellent. There was a young man picking up empty dishes quickly and continuously . All the waitresses were all working together. The cart ladies answered all our questions patiently. The fried spring roll was also surprising good - just fried & perfectly crispy ... I'm so used to getting over-fried spring rolls, haha. After the "steamed" dimsum cart and the "fried" dimsum cart, they showed a picture menu of other things we could special order -- we got the shrimp wrapped in the rice noodle sheet w/ soy sauce ("Cheong Fun with Shrimp) .... usually a favorite for me but theirs was just ok. Also ordered Snow Pea Leaves to get our veggie fix -- yummy! I recommend coming early if possible to avoid waiting for a table -- we came at 10 on a Saturday morning. I've been looking for YEARS on a dim sum spot in ATL -- I know there are some, but I did not know there was one in Duluth! I visited twice most recently. One on a Sunday lunch & the other on a Friday lunch. It seems like the selection is much more expansive on a weekend lunch, as our choices were pretty limited on Friday -- it was also pretty dead so I could see why. You are seated and they ask you if you want dim sums. You say yes, and they start coming out with carts of selections of dim sums to choose from. Most of the servers cannot speak English. Do not expect great service as it's mediocre at best. You get to choose what you want and they write down on your ticket what you ordered and they just accumulate your total at the end! The most recent time I went, some of the things I tried were the shrimp shumai, pork shumai, various dumplings, fried shrimp on a sugar cane stick, barbeque pork buns, and some more I cannot remember. All the dimsums here are decent. They're not the quality of the ones you can find in NYC Chinatown or LA, but it still is pretty decent for the money you pay and the best part is, you don't have to wait. They come to you right away with the carts. That also doesn't mean you don't know how fresh these dim sums are. But considering that they only serve lunch, it's probably not TOO old. You can be seated right away depending how busy they are. Seating arrangements are spread throughout the spacious dining area. You can find many familiar dim sum dishes here. They have all the staples. Finding which ones to try can be a challenge and overwhelming for some newcomers to dim sum. Can't go wrong with most of the dishes. Dim sum pairs well with a hot tea and food should be dipped into the chili and soy sauce mix they offer at your table. It really adds to the flavor of the dishes. Just a small recommendation for anyone new. Service is great and they will dim sum carts will come by often enough for you to get a chance to try a lot of dishes. We came here on a Saturday around 2pm and there was only one other party there. There were two carts that looked like they had been sitting there for awhile. We did order a few items from there, and they tasted fine, but the rest of what we wanted were not available so we ordered off menu made to order. The items came out within 10 minutes and we enjoyed them very much. The har gow were small, with thin skin, but still very good. The shrimp egg rolls I had never seen before, but was great as the only thing inside was shrimp. My hopes and dreams were crushed when I heard they only do dim sum for lunch. My family came here for dinner and we've been looking forward to the myriad of food carts carrying shumai, sticky rice with minced pork, sweet buns, pork buns, fried sesame balls...even tripe and chicken feet for my parents. I still gave this place four stars which speaks to the quality of their food despite our disappointment at no dim sum after lunch. Out of their 50-60 dim sum options that they typically carry, they had four that were available that day for dinner. We of course ordered all four, and it was a good day when two of the four options were shrimp shumai and pork shumai (love the shumai!!!). My parents each got a dinner entree and everyone was plump and happy at the end of the meal. To me, East Pearl Seafood Restaurant is one of metro Atlanta's most underrated dim sum restaurants. People like to talk about Royal China, Happy Valley, Oriental Pearl, Canton House, and even Won Won (for good reason). However, I think East Pearl can definitely hold its own against any of the aforementioned restaurants. The food here is solid. It's authentic and traditional Cantonese comfort food, plain and simple. This place is great for families and groups. It's spacious with many round tables with lazy Susans. On weekends, the carts are out in full force, packed with plates of hot and fresh food. The dining room has an old-school feel to it. East Pearl has been in business since 2006. It doesn't have the updated and modern look of restaurants like Royal China and Won Won, but the business has it where it counts: good food, great service, and affordable pricing. Dim sum prices, at the time of writing this review, are as follows: * Small items - $3.30/dish * Medium items - $4.30/dish * Large items - $6.25/dish * Special items - $8.65/dish East Pearl is currently running a 50%-off dim sum Monday-Friday, 11:00am-2:30pm, dine-in only with a $1.25 "cover charge" per person. It's a great deal. The restaurant serves dim sum daily, but to avoid waiting, I suggest arriving before 12:00pm. We recently showed up at 10:30am on a Sunday and the restaurant was already decently busy. It filled up pretty good by the time we left (a good sign). The restaurant constantly rolls out new items on a regular basis. Also, aside from dim sum, you can order off the "regular" menu at any time. Nothing was bad. My favorite item was the pig ears. I think this was a special. I couldn't stop eating them. This was a cold plate. It reminded me of Sichuan food (in fact, it might've been). The pig ears had a firm, smooth, and tendony texture. They were well-seasoned and a little bit spicy. They included Sichuan peppercorns which I love because they bring the "ma la" - numbing and spicy sensation. So good. Some of the deep-fried items were a bit greasy, but that's par for the course and nothing out of the ordinary for Cantonese food. The beef short ribs were a relatively unique dish, at least among dim sum restaurants in Atlanta, and I recommend them. They're sort of like a bone-in pepper steak. A little bit chewy, but very tasty. The spare ribs, also chopped and served bone-in, were delectable too. I believe those were prepared with garlic and green peppers. We got a couple orders of the congee. My fiancee got her own and she loved it. It had lots of umami flavor and a wonderful consistency. It was warm and comforting, perfect if you have hangover or are feeling under the weather. I really enjoyed the rice noodle rolls with BBQ pork and sweetened soy sauce. These are one of my favorite (among many) dim sum dishes. I think East Pearl's noodles are thicker than other places which makes it seem like you're getting less meat. I like how their rolls stay structurally sound and don't fall apart like at other places. Everything else was pretty much on point or acceptable. If I had to nitpick, I thought the taro dumplings could've been less oily and dense and more flavorful. The Chinese broccoli tasted like it was boiled and overcooked instead of sauteed; not among the best I've had. Service was quick and friendly. Some items, like the Chinese broccoli, are ordered off picture menus that servers will bring to your table. Long story short: I like East Pearl. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it anyone in the Atlanta area looking for good dim sum. read more

Looking for a dim sum place in Atlanta is both easy and hard. There are options out there, but the questions: What is a good dim sum place? I think it's options, and also getting there and seeing the carts come by often enough that you're not questioning yourself on where the food is. I chose East Pearl Seafood because I saw it on Yelp, and said why not? However, when I got here, I sort have a memory that I had been here before a long, long time ago...and for dim sum nonetheless. On to the food! We ordered a variety of things, and I found myself that deep down that I just found that as far as options and food all dim sum is sort of the same. Mind it, I'm not talking about quality as there are definitely places that are better than others, but relatively speaking the options as far as what comes in carts. I think it can come off as safe and comforting to a lot, similar to southern home cooking. But to me, it is just sort of boring? If you have never been to a dim sum before, the staff here is very friendly and would explain everything out and what they have in the carts. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask as they were very friendly when we were there. Pick out the dish you want to eat, and they'll plop it on your table and then at the end of the meal just bring your check up front and pay! So, East Pearl Seafood was just okay for me. I don't know if it's just the dishes from dim sum, but I think this place is still a solid place for dim sum and I felt like the staff treated you better than the other places that we have been to. Is there a plus side to carts colliding near your table? Of course...perhaps some crispy sesame balls will accidentally roll onto my plate! We started with tofu, beef tripe, curry fish balls, shrimp dumplings, shrimp in rice rolls, bok choy, and fried shrimp lollipops. I enjoyed the vegetables and the tripe, but found the dumplings to be average and the shrimp on sugarcane sticks to be on the chewy side. Parking at lunch hour is easy. Lunch crowd, manageable. Since today is a week day, East Pearl has 50% off lunch starting from 11 a.m. to 2:30 pm. Dim sum variety was limited, not the usual wide variety of dim sum items. Having said that, it is sufficient, but if you prefer lunch lunch, you could order from their lunch menu. As there was no lunch crowd, the atmosphere was more relaxed and my friend and I sat for at least 2 hours.
