Pastrami

Darn. I was really hoping for a killer pastrami sandwich. That did not happen.Note, this was a take out order but nonetheless the pastrami was a bit dry and in my opinion too thinly sliced. Kudos to the delicious rye bread.

I was quite impressed with this deli! I have rarely been to a kosher deli outside the NYC area which had good food and this one certainly did! The front of the deli has a store with a large variety of groceries and meats and wine. In the back is a sit down restaurant and what looks like a small catering hall. Even if you don't adhere to the rules of kashrut, I highly recommend the restaurant! The food is wonderful and the staff are pleasant!

When in the area we do our shopping for Passover and also for general kosher foods as they have a very good inventory.

Ask the Community - East Side Kosher Deli

Is there outdoor seating?

No there is not. The seating is inside in the rear of a market. You have to really look to find the seating just past the deli counter

My wife and I stopped into Steuben's to have a snack (donut holes) and a couple of rounds of cocktails. We used the Dining Out Passbook for BOGO cocktails with purchase of food. Our bartender (who was perfectly friendly and helpful) said he needed his manager to get the free cocktail. To be clear, we had literally no interaction with this woman at any point. So it's not like we did something to piss her off. When she arrived at the POS station - behind the bar about six feet from where we were sitting - she proceeded to complain about the "a-holes" (edited for language) using the Passbook and what a bunch of a-holes those customers were (not knowing we were in earshot). And when the bartender - who knew who we were and that we could hear everything - said in a hushed tone "No, they were nice" she proceeded to tell him that she didn't care and that they're just a-holes. I've never been treated so shoddy in my life in a restaurant for no other reason than using a promotional discount that they voluntarily participated in. It's bad enough to attack your customers for using a discount. But doing it behind the bar where customers can hear you is beyond unacceptable. And doing it when the customers you're talking about are within earshot is the most offensive thing I've ever expereinced at a restaurant. You may go to Steuben's and have a nice meal, but just be aware that behind the bar, they're talking about what an a-hole you are.

While the former Ambli space has been brightened and renovated to look very much like an east shore market, the seating is less than comfortable. I guess the combo of poor food, bad service and uncomfortable seating is great for turning tables? I will put aside the TERRIBLE service and focus purely on the food. We ate at Zaidy's for breakfast. Many of the breakfast sandwiches are based on their in-house-made bagels. This is a failure! The bagels taste stale for "freshly made" and I find it very odd for a Jewish-themed joint to toss bacon into the sandwich (I personally love bacon, BTW). So setting aside the shanda (shame) bacon...with the cheese, there is an utter lack of seasoning. The breakfast sandwich came with home fried potatoes which were cooked nice and crisp but lacking any seasoning whatsoever. The latke grilled cheese looks appealing but is basically a greasy sponge filled with limp tomato and undercoooked cheese. And finally, the blintzes are an embarrassment to any self-respecting Jew. Zaddy's version are these small pockets that are under fried and more the size of a hamantaschen than a true blinze. I see no reason to rush back. Another few blocks down the street is Sam's 3, where a far better breakfast could be realized and Rosenberg's bagel on Monoco for better bread (albeit that Rosenberg's doesn't serve sandwiches)

Posted to Google already deserves to be shared here as well since I'm at it today…read more.. Smokin Dave's absolutely delivered last weekend. We ordered the Not So Teeny Wahine platter to share and added an okra appetizer, and everything that hit the table was legit. The meats were exactly what you want from a good barbecue joint: smoky, tender, and packed with flavor without drowning in sauce. You could tell the pit did the talking. The okra was a great starter too, crispy without being greasy and a perfect way to kick things off. Sides can make or break a BBQ place and Smokin Dave's nailed them. The mac and cheese was creamy and rich, the mashed potatoes were comforting and buttery, the collard greens had that slow-cooked depth you hope for, and the red beans and rice brought a little Southern soul to the table. Overall, just a really solid barbecue experience. Great flavors, generous portions, and the kind of meal that makes you want to come back and try the rest of the menu.

Love the welcoming, casual, and authentic BBQ atmosphere along with everything else this place offers! I don't know if you can go wrong with how you order but my favorite is to get Dave's Smokin Platter which can come with one meat ($18), two meats ($22), or three meats ($26)! Any of these come with choice of two sides and cornbread. My go-to's are the brisket and pulled pork for the meats and fried okra, red beans and rice, or baked beans for the sides! If you are a first timer and want to try several meats- the Pitmaster sandwich ($16.25) is a great option as it comes with brisket, pulled pork, and jalapeño cheddar sausage!

We were not disappointed :) Ruperts has a great set up of booth, bar, table, and patio seating. They have cute little witty sayings strewn about their walls, so those are fun to find and read. Prepare yourself for a little bit of a wait if you go for brunch on the weekend. This just means Ruperts is worth the wait. Check the bar seats though, as those are first come, first serve and they serve the entire menu there as well. We lucked out and two spots were open for us so we did not have to wait for a table. The bartender who was also our server was very nice and gave some excellent recommendations. Rupert's classic reuben was a great suggestion. Add sweet potato fries, and you'll be in heaven! We also could not pass up the cinnamon roll that was so elegantly advertised in front of us! When in Sloan's Lake, Ruperts will be my choice of restaurants. As with most brunch places, Ruperts opens early in the morning - at 7am and closes early at 2:30pm.
