I was want to give a fair review. 1) I was very happy with the woman who did my pedicure. She was very meticulous and I appreciated her efforts. She did take over an hour and a half though. 2) I was very disappointed in my gel manicure. It was clear he was rushing through my nail. The gel was uneven, in some places on my cuticles and others too much space between the cuticle and the polish. But, what bothered me the most was during the manicure the individual left to go on a smoke break. I have had other people enjoy this place and I had hoped it would be better. read more

This place is great! I called and they got me in by the next day. I went in for a pedicure and they had a decent selection of colors, it included a nice foot/leg massage, and the color lasted well over a month! Service was friendly and helpful. The salon is a little cramped, but being right across from Eastern Market I'm really not surprised. The price was very reasonable, and I will definitely be coming back! Personal note: I had a baby recently and had to bring him with me- the salon is on the second floor with no elevator (not handicap friendly! But it's DC), I was able to carry him up in our umbrella stroller and they let me put the stroller in a side room while I got a pedicure. They were fine with me holding him while they did a pedicure, were so kind, and loved cooing at my baby. I had to breastfeed in the middle and they brought a towel to protect his face (it IS a nail salon- more for sanitary reasons for him, not a "cover him up" situation). I was a regular here for years, but no more after they badly cut my toe today. Accidents happen but no first aid kit was available and only after asking repeatedly did they finally produced one small band-aid. And I was bleeding a lot!!! Barely an apology, no offer of further help, and the the nails she did do (only got one foot done before the cutting) were done poorly. I went here yesterday. I called first thing in the morning for a appointment and they said they could take me. I went in and they acted as if I didn't make a appointment. Then I got who I believe is the manager to do my pedicure. He was rude and nonchalant whole time. He never offered me anything to drink and he didn't speak to me at all he would just use his hands to signal me if he needed to move my feet. Then as he's doing my jail pedicure he slamming the light on my feet. I got no hot towel no lotion all he did was wipe my feet off and put oil on it. Then as I go to pay I'm told it's $55 of course I'm not leaving him a tip because the service was horrible. I was putzing around Eastern Market and then remembered I needed a manicure. I usually go in Dupont, so I figured Eastern Market would be comparable or maybe a bit cheaper. WOW, I was wrong. $40 for a gel manicure (before tip)?!?!?!?! There's no website or prices listed so I can't tell if I got bamboozled. The manicure was fine except that the nail tech cut my cuticle too close so it bled a lot, but that could happen anywhere. I was mostly shocked at the price. I was very impressed by this place. They took their time doing both my pedicure and manicure, and both came out great. My pedicure lasted until my nails grew out too long, and I had to get them done just because of that! Definitely the best pedicure I've ever gotten, in terms of shaping my nails and taking care of the cuticles and skin. The sweet people who work here were just wonderful. They have massage chairs - awesome. They bring you magazines. They smile at you. All the equipment they used was definitely sterilized (they open up new ones sealed in plastic for each customer). I was satisfied with this place for a few months. A little small but overall not bad. The same girl (Vivian) was always doing my mani/pedi, as well as waxing. But last Saturday all my good thoughts of Eastern Market Nails went away. I used to go to this salon every 3-4 weeks, to the same girl, most of the time leave there at least around $50-70 with generous tips (15-20%), and when I came in to do my mani/pedi I asked for eyebrow waxing (2 minutes at most!). The girl told me: "Aw, you know, can you wait until 6?" It was around 5.30. I said okay and waited diligently until 6.10. For forty minutes. At 6.10 she says to me: "You know, the room is still busy. Do you want to come tomorrow?" Seriously? That's their customer service. I live close to Eastern Market, and this was a perfect location for me but after this incident, I will never go there again. Yelp always leads me to good places. Eastern Market Nails is one of them. They always do a good job, they're friendly and welcoming, and prices are reasonable. After my first two visits, I knew this would be my go-to nailery. Remember that it is a small shop, so you will most likely need to call ahead. You also need to bring cash for a tip. The first time I came, I followed the advice of my fellow Yelpers and called ahead. They squeezed me in on a Saturday at 4:30'ish I think. Max was my technician and he did a phenomenal job. I received several compliments on my nails. I love the trendy ovaly pointy shape and he knew exactly what i was talking about and even gave me tips to maintain it. I've had this shape before but this one was my fave. The second time I went they were booked for walk-ins but they had something in 45 minutes, so they still fit me in. I had a very bubbly, friendly technician. I don't remember her name but we had a really good conversation about second marriages. She was doing my mani/pedi for my mom's wedding! She loved my nails and gave me tons of compliments about them. Nail technicians usually do. They're pretty strong and most people think they have gel, acrylic or some other junk on them when they're just painted. I came in today for a mani/pedi today and had a completely different experience. The technician seemed annoyed by me. I think it was because I didn't move my legs fast enough in and out of the water. She was so rude. My pedi was also rushed. My paint job was nice but it wasn't a pleasant experience. After a long day at work a pedicure should be relaxing. I didn't feel like looking at her unhappy face for another 15-30 minutes, so I just finished the pedi and cancelled the mani. I talked to a manager about it because I needed to know her name so that I can request not to have her again. She was really nice about it and just told me to request who I like. They still get four stars because my last two experiences before that were excellent. I'm still going to continue to come here because they do a great job, plus I'm not going to let one bad apple spoil the bunch!! read more

Needed a quick touch up on the eyebrows and lip so I dropped in last Sunday. I called about an hour ahead of time to make an appointment, because a coworker suggested I do so and got right in. I arrived about 10 minutes early and ended up waiting twenty despite the appointment. Nonetheless, the woman who did my waxing was apologetic and friendly. The salon is clean and not obtrusively decorated (you know how some of these places can have paintings of women with fluorescent pink lips and three inch matching nails from the 80s?) and is also located in a clean, well-kept building across from Eastern Market (clever name for them then). They were relatively busy, and my waxologist (that's right, I said it) said that they were usually about this busy on the weekends. The total for my eyebrows and lip was $18 and she did a great job. I tend to find a specialist that I really like and stick with that person, though all of the staff are very friendly and considerate. As of late, I've been splurging on the Reflexology foot massage. As one who walks a lot, this is pure luxury... The salon is clean and bright and atmosphere is joyful. The prices are reasonable for DC, however I've never understood why nail services are so much cheaper in Manhattan??? If any one knows, please fill me in. Since I asked this question, I found out that salon workers in NYC are exploited and underpaid. NOTE: This is only a review of the salon's waxing. I didn't get my nails done. I went her last month to get my eyebrows waxed and was pleasantly surprised. I'm used to getting my eyebrows waxed out in the suburbs in Maryland so i was worried that 1. they might not do a good job and 2. it would be expensive. I always get really nervous when they're waxing that I'll have no eyebrows when they're done, but luckily I stayed still and waited to see the results. They did a great job! My eyebrow wax was great and the price was only a couple dollars more than I'd get in the MD suburbs. I called ahead to see if they'd have an opening on a weeknight - they told me to come by in about 20 minutes. I waited a couple minutes when i got there, but that was it. I have been going there for 6 months and before 2 days ago would have given them a solid 3. But 2 days ago they did my eyebrows and the wax was too hot now I have patches of red on my face where my skin is gone from the wax being pulled off my face. I decided to try this place out after reading all the good and helpful reviews here on Yelp. I called this morning to make an appointment for 6pm the same day, today. They had an opening, so I was happy about that. This is the first nail place I'm trying in DC. I use to go to a few places in northern Virginia but now that I live in NE, I want a nail place closer to home. I arrived at 5:30pm and asked if they also did eye brow waxing, they did! They were able to fit me in for that right away. They woman did a great job. She was very friendly, and pretty quick with the waxing. I wish I could remember her name! Linda was the one who did my mani/pedi. She was very nice and she did an excellent job on my nails. She listened to what I said, and she took her time to do a great job. I was reading on my ipad mini the whole time mostly and she left me alone, which was nice. I just wanted to relax and enjoy getting pampered. I felt bad because I didn't have much cash for a tip. I told them I will be going back and will definitely bring cash next time! I would certainly recommend this nail salon! They were very nice and friendly, and did exactly what I asked for. I have been coming here about a year and a half to get my eyebrows and upper lip waxed. I guess I've become a regular because they now recognize my voice on the phone. I always call ahead, sometimes as little as an hour ahead of time, and I've always been able to get in at a convenient time. Best of all, every single person who's done my eyebrows has done a great job - Linda, Sunny, Vivian are all lovely. My brows are never irritated and are always neatly trimmed. I get a pedi about once every 2-3 years and this one was one of the best. I stopped here after much walking around on a DC vacay. It was a real treat to soak my poor, tired feet. Super friendly staff, clean place. Had a real family feel to it; clients were obviously repeat customers and knew each employee by name. I heard mutual questions about family and other goings on. Very cheery and comfortable environment. Plus they fit me in for an eyebrow wax after closing time, did a fantastic job in about 5 minutes, and with absolutely no lingering redness or irritation - and I have very sensitive skin. I've been going to Eastern Market Nails consistently since I first moved to the district approximately three years ago; they've been my go to place in DC through two moves (including one which brought me to NW DC). All of the technicians are great and super friendly; they have many regular clients, which underscores their great customer service. Appointments are definitely needed, but super easy to secure (I'm often able to call in the morning for an evening appointment or day before); they're often willing to be flexible and stay open a half hour late or so if you're coming from work like I do frequently. I visited Eastern Market nails not knowing what to expect. I needed a new location, because my former go to nail technician moved to Houston, and I didn't prefer anyone else at the shop that I came from. So, on April 4th 2015 I made an appointment on the phone (due to the recommendation of fellow yelpers) and I arrived 10 minutes late. However, they welcomed me at the front desk and asked for my name. After seeing my appointment in the books they immediately told me to pick a color and motioned Loan (my technician) to get the water running for my pedi. The atmosphere is small and intimate but everyone is very friendly. Loan and I maintained small talk and found out we had a lot in common, but aside from the personal connection we had (close in age, both college students etc.) which made my experience very comfortable (something I never had at ANY NAIL SHOP) she did my gel mani and regular pedi wonderfully. I chose OPI "you're so vanil-la" which was beautiful. My cuticles are so neat, and my shaping is perfect. I'll definitely be a regular at this shop from now on, and I'm sure this recent do will last me about 3 weeks! This shop is highly recommended by me! I'm very pleased. read more

I've been a customer of Eastern Market Nails ever since I moved to the neighborhood about three years ago. They are always busy, so make an appointment, but they do great work. Staff is very friendly, and you always walk out with a great mani/pedi. I also get my eyebrows waxed here. One month I had a ton of events coming up and opted for a gel manicure instead. While cooking dinner I accidentally sliced off a huge piece of gel. I went back the next day and they took time out of their insanely busy load to fix it and did so for free! I tipped of course but it was greatly appreciated. I've been to plenty of other nail salons and I've never had equal service and at the same price point. Great place! Highly recommended! read more

We sat down next to each other for manicures.
