I used to come here a lot during pasta nights. I came here for lunch last week and ordered a chicken quesadilla as an appetizer and a chicken marsala. The chicken quesadilla was huge! Although a little burnt, it was really good and could just be a main entrée by itself. The chicken marsala was good but I would have preferred if the sauce was a little bit more flavorful. I love this place. I love the atmosphere, decor, menu, wine list, specials - bartenders are very friendly and the waitstaff is always great. The seafood chippino is one of the best I have ever had - TONS of seafood, delicious sauce and an amazingly satisfying dish. There are a lot of great seafood items on the menu and you can't go wrong with anything you choose. Even the bread in the bread basket is fantastic!! This is a GREAT date place and even a great weekday option as they have fantastic (and cheap!) specials during the week. This place is so easy to miss but so worth looking for!! The hostess is responsible for the missing star. She is always there, has a few "favorite" customers she is nice to and is R-U-D-E to everyone else. But you'll know her as soon as you see her - she looks like a cross between Magda from Something About Mary and Blanche from the Golden Girls - so try and just ignore her. read more

Went to Ecco on Wednesday. The food was good. Started with a caesar salad- anchovies on the side. I had the seafood scampi. The mussels in it were very good but the other seafood (calamari, scallops and white fish) were over cooked- a little rubbery. My friend has the grilled boneless pork chops special. It came with grilled mixed potato and vegis. His meal was very good- wish i had ordered it as well. I had a Bacardi and diet and he had a corona. I ran into some old family friends and went and said hello. When the friends sent me a martini the waitress seemed a little confused and was less than smooth about the whole thing but she seemed sweet anyway. My wife and I live within walking distance, so we go about once a month or so. We have never had a bad meal, and sometimes go so far as to compare other restaurants to Ecco, as it's set a pretty good standard for what new Italian should be. Drinks are great, and the servers always make sure to be attentive without being bothersome. Highly recommend this casual yet classy establishment for any night of the week, but weekends can occasionally get very busy, so I would call ahead if going on a Saturday. read more

Went here on a Wednesday night, not realizing it was one of their $11.95 Pasta Nights - parking lot was jammed to the max and there was a 30 minute wait for a table for two. We managed to snag a high-top at the bar in about 10 minutes, though. App: Lobster Bruschetta. HOLY DELICIOUS. probably the best part of the whole meal. i would eat ten orders of these. Meals: Shrimp Scampi and Eggplant Fettucine. Shrimp Scampi was a little plain for my husband's tastes, but he'd never had it before. Thought it was "pretty good." My Eggplant Fettucine was great - my only constructive criticism is that the breaded and baked eggplant was a little softer than i was expecting, and it could have lent a little more texture to the dish. The flavors, however, were exceptionally tasty. Great dish, would definitely order this again, although it will have to wait until I try a few more things off the menu. We also ordered half-orders of a caesar and a house salad, and both were delicious and perfectly sized. Dessert was a slice of Tiramisu - light, airy, and lovely. Tiramisu is easy to screw up, but Ecco's is quite nice. The menu is impressive, the wine and drink list included. Our meals were overall quite good, and we're both looking forward to a return visit- we'll make reservations next time. read more

We've eaten here once and have had take-out at least 5 times. The food just keeps getting better and better. If you love going to the North End but hate the parking, this is the place for you. Their brushetta is to die for. The aged balsamic vinegarette on the brushetta melts in your mouth. We've had their Ecco's House Salad, wedge salad, chicken pomodoro, lobster ravioli, lemon chicken, chicken a la vodka, chicken francais, and chicken milanese. We went here last night for dinner, 3 adults and 2 children. I had called earlier in the afternoon for a reservation, and was told, by a quite rude man to call back later, he was busy. OK....nice. anyway, I called back and hour later and the phone was answered by the same rude, snippy guy. He took my reservation this time for 5 people at 6:30. When we arrived, about 10 minutes early, we were told they had no reservation for us. Surprise!!!! Oh well, anyway, they were able to seat us after about 5 minutes. The food itself was very tasty, if the service a little slow. Our waiter took the order of the table next to us before he took ours, even though they were seated after us. It was about 15 minutes after we were seated before our order was taken. I was a long wait also for our plates to be cleared and the check to be delivered. Again, while the food is above par, the service is below par. A so-so experience. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now after positive feedback from our friends. Hubby and I went tonight. It was very quiet for a Saturday night. "Usually its a 2 hour wait" the waitress told us, but the weather is rough so be it. We started with the lobster bisque which was AMAZING. As a bisque fan, I can honestly say that this is one of the best Ive ever had. Perfect amount of cream and sherry. Lobster tender. Hubs had the Chicken Broccoli Ziti which in idea, sounded awesome... a mix of alfredo, lemon, garlic and oil...the sauce was rather thin, though which lead to light dressing. The chicken and broccoli were very fresh. All together, the meal was decent. I had the chicken parm which was much better than I had anticipated. As a woman who loves her own sauce, I always anticipate restaurant tomato sauces to be not so good, but this was delicious. Not acidic at all and all the right flavors! Flavor was ok but it was dry and the steamed broccoli and roasted potatoes lacked flavor -just steamed broccoli and cut up potatoes. Wine and beer selection was so-so. Came here beginning of January and had a pretty good experience. The table ordered Fried Calamari and Bruschetta as appetizers. I have to say the bread and whipped butter that came with the table set the tone. The bread was nice and warm and super tasty! It was a big hit at our table. I got the bolognese pasta and oh boy! was it delicious. The portions are huge so be prepared to take leftovers home. I had it for lunch and dinner the next day. Ok we'll maybe the few times I have showed up hoping to eat dinner a half hour or an hour after the kitchen closed and i wanted to eat, but other than that never. I'm giving Ecco three stars because i'm only rating this place from one experience and meal (which wasn't the best in the world), but think that it's still a decent place. I had the roasted eggplant appetizer because I am a big fan of eggplant. I'd have to say that the eggplant appetizer was the best part of the whole meal. Pikachu's cheeks were jolting with satisfaction when I gave him a bite. But i got to say the tomato sauce was meh. But Oh my Graveler the killer of the night was the veal ravioli with the pomodoro sauce. Don't get us wrong, Pikachu and I love veal ravioli, but the pomodoro sauce was too strong and repulsive and overpowered the ravioli. I'm the sauce boss, and that 'pomodor sauce' tasted like vomit. It wasn't even red or tasted like tomatoes... I did the Snorlax test, meaning I gave my Snorlax some of the ravioli. He wasn't too pleased, and he usually eats just about anything! Of course we'll come back after a hard day of training my pokemon for another go, but I'll certainly stay away from anything there with pomodoro sauce. read more

Attended Ecco this evening for the second time after an initial fond experience for drinks an apps a few months prior. What a disappointment !! I ordered the fra diavolo - I have never seen a more disturbing looking mussel in All my seafood experiences. I checked each one on the plate and all had a gross "belly" (as they called it ) filled with a sketchy green substance. Now to be fair , I an no mussel expert, so I googled it. Not one of these images contained a nasty green pustule. Yeah pustule .... I went there. The scallops in my dish were completely over cooked and the shrimp was the only edible part. The sauce wasn't even spicy. Tasted like a can of ragu with a splash of franks red hot. Some woman who wasn't even our waitress noticed me googling and said she was going to "ask the manager if they were normal " hmmmmm my question in this is , as the owner of an establishment - if your cuisine was being questioned by a paying customer why would you have a random woman who wasn't my waitress play the middle man messenger rather than simply address the issue on your own? Oh yeah BAD BUSINESS. So our waitress Liz was a very very nice woman. She took our order well , came with our bread and drinks abruptly, and was pleasant throughout the experience. I will not return to this restaurant because I believe the situation was handled so poorly especially considering they still charged me full price for a meal I took 3 bites of. Ecco Trattoria surprised me in a really nice way. My dining partner and I dined-in on a Wednesday evening for the Pasta Night specials ($10.95 for a salad + your choice of a pasta dish off of their Pasta Night list). We ordered the mussels in white wine sauce as an appetizer, and they were soo yummy. For our entrees, I ordered the Chicken Cacciatore, and he ordered the Seafood Scampi. They were both delicious (the flavors were presented nicely and nothing was overbearing). Our drinks were well-made and consisted of sangria and gin & tonics. The atmosphere leans towards a casual type of fine-dining. The service was pleasant; I plan on returning here in the future. Their Pasta Nights are on Sunday, Tuesday, and Wednesday nights-- I recommend taking advantage of this deal! They also have a $6 lunch menu that I want to explore, too. read more

We went to Ecco for my mom's birthday and had a decent, though somewhat lacking experience. I had a great meal here a few years ago, but something was missing last night. Our appetizers (eggplant rollatini and prosciutto/mozzarella) were both delicious, though fairly small. The marinara on the eggplant was really tasty. The entrees for the night included cioppino, lobster a la vodka, and seafood risotto. The lobster was way overcooked and tasted almost burnt. My seafood risotto had a good array of seafood but the risotto was really just rice and sauce...too salty and needed more spice. The cioppino looked good and my dad cleaned his plate. For dessert we got the bananas foster- on complaints, fairly simple but nice and sweet. Our waiter was just OK, did not really give any recommendations and was sort of only there to take our orders. zero personality. I'd come again to try some pizza or maybe for their Pasta Night. I saw a few other dishes come through the restaurant that looked pretty tasty. read more

I met friends here for an early Saturday dinner. They arrived less than 5 minutes before us and were already seated when we walked in. However after about 10-15 minutes (no lie) of waiting for a waitress to come over & atleast ask us if we wanted something to drink, we were beginning to feel like we were invisible. Bread was ok - not exactly Italian... more like a boring Thanksgiving roll from a grocery store. I ordered Spaghetti & Meatballs ... after seeing one patron get the same dish with 5-6 meatballs, I was a bit shocked when I saw my dish with 2 measly meatballs... turns out in the end I had somehow been given a kids meal & was charged for a kids meal... so hooray for that b/c my meal only cost $6.00 but boo for them for not realizing .... and if the waitress was around I could have asked her - but she was a bit of a phantom. My friend got the roasted veggie ravioli which were quite good & I was jealous... however my meatballs had the texture of of a sponge... whatever kind of breadcrumbs they use - they use too much & didnt add enough liquid. My husband ordered the seafood risotto .. however his risotto looked more like plain rice than real thing which should be creamy & thick. Overall I think I just had a bad meal, for Weymouth it's a nice change of pace from the ole' bar & grill that seem to abound. I'd give it another chance and stay away from the homemade meatballs. read more

Went here on a Tuesday night for Pasta Night. For $10.95 you get your choice of pasta with a variety of toppings (meatballs, veal Parmesan, shrimp scampi etc.) as well as a side salad. Seems like a good deal but the portions were very small. Since pasta is cheap, many restaurants will give you a ton of it as an entree. I would guess that I had less than 2 cups of ziti total. I will say the meatballs that came with my dinner were larger than most places, but still didn't justify the price. My dinner companion ordered a similar dish and received even less pasta than I did. I finished my entire meal in less than 5 minutes. I will second another reviewer on two counts, they don't seem to be serving the supermarket style dinner rolls any more and the desserts were very disappointing. The new rolls are similar to Bertuccis' but larger and as far as the desserts, for $6.95 I got the world's smallest apple crisp... and it wasn't very good. All apple and no crisp. Our server was sweet and attentive and the place was nicely decorated and clean but I don't think we'll ever go back. read more

I'm happy to say that there is a place like this in weymouth. I've been here many times and the service, food, and prices have never disappointed. I went there two nights ago and had the veal and sage ravioli. Absolutely delicious. My boyfriend stuck with the chicken parm. It's tough to make a memorable chicken parm because it's ordered so often but what really made this one was the great sauce. The service was quick and we didn't have to wait to be seated. Looking at it from the outside it doesn't seem like much but inside the lay out is pleasing and the atmosphere is very friendly. The menu changes often enough so I usually try whatever is new when I go. The prices are very generous considering the great food and service. The same restaurant placed in Boston would probably cost twice as much. read more

It definitely is not the greatest Italian restaurant in the world or the south shore. The food is really lacking but I leave the three stars because the interior is really nice. It looks relatively classy and in my opinion not at all tacky. They have nice tall ceilings and an open layout with a tv above the bar that can be scene from most of the tables. The food is medium priced for Italian but the food quality just isn't there. They do run a pasta night promo and is the only night that I will go because if you pay full price it just isn't worth it. Last night I had yet another wonderful meal at Ecco in Weymouth. The food is excellent but the service is the real standout. Monique and Marianne are the best. Marianne has been there as long as I have been eating at Ecco; she tends bar and waitresses. If you have been to Ecco you have probably met Marianne. She will learn how you like your drinks and customize them for you. She always greets us with a smile and you know she is genuinely happy to see you. When friends who have moved away from this area come to visit, they always ask, "When are we going to see Marianne?" In terms of food, don't overlook the cheeseburger. Amazing. The Ecco house salad with pears, nuts and gorgonzola is one of my favorite things also. You can get some great Italian on the South Shore but the service at Ecco really sets it above the competition. We took our relatives from Colorado here one night. Service was excellent, waitress was very friendly and attentive. The food is just o.k. Lobster ravioli has minimal lobster in it and is very bland. It was swimming in sauce that was fairly bland. Lemon chicken was a better choice but again it was not very flavorful. Probably wouldn't go here again, Fiorella's in Newton, Delfinos in Roslindale, Cafe Bella in Randolph are much better choices. read more

Worst dining experience in a long time!! We had the rudest waitress who was older and wore way to much make up for a 60+ yr old woman. She never checked on us. Our orders were wrong. My order had an entirely different pasta and sauce than what was described on the very limited menu. The hostess was about 13 and wasn't seating people right away. Flavorless meal and horrible staff!
