Great service, soup, sushi and sushi but they don't serve white rice. What is up with that?

This is a very small restaurant with only about 8 tables (22 seats total) and four chairs at the Sushi bar with nice atmosphere. The quality of the food was top-notch. I had Poke bowl - highly recommended. Echo Tower - very delish. Although the level of the service was not the best I could tell that the servers were trying their best and I expect it will improve in no time - after its "growing pain" subsides. I look forward to going back, and trying something new. read more

We showed up and were the only ones in the restaurant. Shortly after, it did start to get busy, but nothing excuses the service or the cheap portions we got. It took forever to place an order or get drinks. Echo combo came with half the sushi being cheap pieces of nigiri. The sushi portions were also sliced so thin that they were transparent where you could see the rice below. Had to flag waitress down for drinks and check after waiting. Felt bad afterwards because realized after that another couple sitting there hadn't even been able to order after waiting for 20 min. Then when waitress left the check with us, we were overcharged and then took longer to flag her down again. She argued with us and then we showed her the menu so she "fixed" it. Except when she brought it back again, the same items were still overcharged. She argued some more, to the point I had to pull out a calculator and show her and then the third time she finally had it correct. I'm the meantime, the couple next to us walked out as they waited 20-30 min and I don't think they ever even got drinks. Overall poor service and portions were small. Many other great options in the valley for better service, portions, and prices. Nagoya and Sushi Doraku are some other gems to try instead. read more

Not our first visit. Probably our sixth time there. We were a party of 6 including my wife, son, daughter-in-law and my 2 grandchildren. Our entrees came out at different at different times. It service was terrible. I was finished with my food at least 10 minutes before my grandson received his meal. I complained but the waitress sad the kitchen was backed up. She was lying of thinking we were fools. People were seated after us and were eating before the last of our entrees showed up. The waitress never refilled drinks. I was so annoyed that I left a penny tip. The owner who makes all the sushi and the rolls was right there and never apologized or adjusted anything off the bill. First visit: Had Chirashi bowl, excellent with lots of sashimi. Tempura side was excellent. Salad was excellent. Bento dish was so-so. The gyoza was not to our taste, the skin was too thick. The teriyaki chicken was too sweet for our taste. But lots of food. Second visit: Had the spicy seafood ramen very good ( it was very spicy ) large and tasty. Got to-go. The sushi was the worst sushi I've ever had in my life. It was also pricier than normal sushi joints. The fish was bad and god forbid, tasted fishy. Plus the fish they put on the nigiri also couldn't have been bigger than my thumb. The 'rolls' were made of 6 dinky pieces. The miso soup and salad were obviously recycled and reheated as the salad leaves were dried-out and stale and the miso soup actually tasted old. This joint uses purple rice that is akin to dirty rice instead of actual normal sushi rice. We should have seen the signs as it was a weekend during lunch time and there was no one in there....please pass on this sushi joint and go anywhere else. read more

My wife and I are both sushi lovers. Since moving up north to this area, we hadn't yet found a solid place to get our sushi fix. I read the reviews on Echo sushi and we went in the same evening. While being a smaller place, it accommodates well and gives you a cozy type feeling. The service was outstanding! Warmly greeted as we walked in and attentive service throughout the meal. Now the sushi....it was out of the world. It's served with black rice which we had never had. I almost would never it eat without black rice again! We will be back many more times and can honestly say, this is our new favorite sushi place anywhere in AZ. read more

This is one of those finds you almost don't want to review with greediness and in fear it will become too popular. The service, the imagination of the menu, and the quality of the ingredients all warrant a true 5 star rating amongst all the other five star reviews of places like The Olive Garden and IHOP. The black rice is delightful and gives a boost to what is already pretty special artfully constructed food. My only criticism is I spent entirely too much. Not because of inflated prices but because there were too many options i HAD to try resulting in over ordering entirely. If i had ordered one thing off the menu I would have had more than enough to eat. However, We had to try the oysters, the gyoza, the rolls (one of which was "The Echo Tower"- enough food for four), my companion got the teriyaki (which i tried), and it all came with salad and soup. After ordering all that i was severely disappointed to know there would be absolutley no possible way to consume the mochi ice cream desert. read more

Nigiri was good. They garnish with real wasabi and use purple rice which is always a nice thing to see. The ramen unfortunately was VERY disappointing. The noodles and the egg were both overcooked. I felt like I was eating noodles from a can... that bad. We asked for extra egg and I guess that means you get one whole egg instead of a half an egg. The broth lacked significant flavor as well. Atmosphere was quaint and the space was cozy. Just the way we like it. We will be back for some more nigiri, but I will skip the ramen next time. read more

Just some wrinkles for them to iron out: - Complimentary miso soup was barely warm. It was tasty but almost cold. - Hot sake was barely warm. Should be hot. - Not everything on the menu was available. If uni is only there on the weekends I'd encourage that to be on the menu. + Beautiful prep & presentations + Everything was fresh + Variety of rolls was on par with other places but with their own individual spin on some things / Not sure if I liked the black rice or not. I think it is something that could go with certain rolls, but I might suggest making it optional vs the standard. It was a new experience for me which was great, but there's something to be said for regular sushi rice All in all I will return and update or add a new review once they work out the kinks. Nice little place and clean quiet ambiance. We had Tempura Udon and the Carefree Special with a Sapporo beer. Service was friendly and fast. Food was very fresh and the Las Vegas Rolls on the Carefree Special were awesome. Tempura was yummy and light. The Udon soup was well cooked but needed a little soy sauce to kick up the flavor. This place has gotten mixed reviews amongst my neighbors but I had a really good experience. I had the chirashi bowl and some eel nigiri. I actually don't mind the black rice (which looks purple). It tasted the same as white rice to me and it's better for you. I've seen complaints that it wasn't cold and I had the same experience. That's probably my only complaint. The fish was fresh and the pieces were cut appropriately. I've never seen fresh wasabi before so that was a nice touch. They have a good selection of wasabi. Who would have known a little sushi shop in a strip mall next to Albertson's grocery store would be such a gem? The restaurant is "quaint" - small but tastefully decorated with a relaxed atmosphere. Our waiter was phenomenal, patiently answering our numerous questions. I'm not a big fish eater so I ordered egg rolls, crunchy California rolls and avocado rolls - so I'm sorry I can't review "real" sushi. The coolest thing is they use a purplish-black rice which added so much to the experience. It was a somewhat chewier and flavorful rice and was visually a nice change from regular white rice.
