It's a crap shoot with most servicemen. Most folks seem to want to do the minimum to get the job done, and charge you extra any time they can. Not only did Joe give me the best deal I could find to replace my entire A/C system, but his guys were really nice, in and out in a matter of hours, and promptly came back out 3 times to follow up on some issues that developed after the installation - issues that I don't think had anything to do with the installation, but artifacts of how my old unit was setup. My new unit works great, and my electricity bill has gone way down. If I ever need A/C work done again, or am going to recommend someone, Joe's the guy, without a doubt. read more

Joe left a bit ago - and I didn't want to waste any time in writing this recommendation in case I forgot. I called this morning and he was able to fit me in the SAME day...thankfully because anyone living in Austin knows July is NOT the time to be without a properly working A/C. It was a relatively minor fix, took about an hour - but I'm one of those totally clueless homeowners (that's what happens when you live in apartments for 20 years) and he made sure to explain everything and make sure I understood how to maintain the unit going forward. This is my first review, and I am going to the trouble for a good reason - based on others yelp reviews I called Eco Air Conditioning, so would like to return the favor. I had 3 "big box" companies look at a big loss of air flow & thus cooling... one charged a service call to diagnose the problem incorrectly as having a R-22 leak and being beyond hope... the other two did not bother with looking beyond what was needed to quote a replacement price. Then Joe came in, and despite my being willing to settle for just a replacement price quote, went through the whole system, found out what the real problem was (fan), fixed it that morning, on a 100 degree day,, and needless to say for a small fraction of what anyone else was telling me needed to be done. Well, I saw all the great reviews on Yelp, and I was prepared for a great experience. What I got was not a very good experience. I called Joe and told him the downstairs AC was not cooling. Frank came out and looked at the outside unit and determined it was very low on freon. I mentioned to him that there was another outside unit on the other side of the house (3 units in all). In retrospect, I should have walked him over to the other unit and made sure he checked it. I'm not sure it ever got checked. I think this is where everything started to go off the rails. Frank asked me where the inside unit was, and I just wasn't thinking and led him to the wrong inside unit (the one from the other side of the house). He determined that the coils needed replacing after doing a leak check. $2515 for coils seemed a little steep, but everyone else we called was a week or so out on service. The next day the installers arrived and were ready to install the new coils, but they quickly figured out that the outside unit low on freon did not match up with the inside unit they were replacing. Several unanswered calls to Joe later, and it clicked what I had done by leading Frank to the wrong inside unit. Since Frank had convinced me that there was a leak on the inside unit (even though it seemed to be working just fine), I decided to go ahead and replace it because it was 10 years old. When I finally talked to Joe and we figured out what had happened, he sent Frank back out to look at the inside unit that we should have been looking at in the first place. This time I stayed with Frank the whole time while he did the leak checks. He found a small leak but said there could be more that we couldn't quite see. Since this was the original unit that had almost no freon, it seemed reasonable that it needed to be replaced. We did a leak check on the 3rd unit, and it seemed OK. Joe called later with estimates on the two inside units (in case I wanted to replace them both). $2900 apiece for replacing just the coils or $3100 apiece for replacing the entire unit. I opted to replace just the downstairs unit since that was the original one that wasn't working and we had not found any leaks during our leak check of the upstairs unit. I told Joe on the phone that I thought it was the 3.5 ton unit that needed replacing, but he told me he would check and make sure. The installers showed up the next day, and sure enough, Joe had sent them with the 3.5 ton unit, which turned out to be the wrong one. After calling Joe and explaining that he had sent the wrong unit, he said that they had the 4 ton unit in stock. He said because it was a larger unit, it was going to be $3300 instead of the $3100 he had told me before. I can definitely understand that a larger unit should cost more, but it still felt a little like bait and switch. Why not just originally quote me $2900 for the smaller unit and $3300 for the larger one, instead of his original quote of $3100 apiece? At the end of the day, we did get a new unit that seems to be working fine. I was originally miffed to see the American Standard brand when what they had replaced was a Trane. After a brief Google search, it seems that they are essentially the same equipment with different brands on the outside (I think). It would have been nice of them to explain to me beforehand that the Trane and American Standard brands are equivalent. I guess my real issue is the poor communication amongst Joe, Frank and the installers. Why did the installers show up with the wrong units not once, but twice? Frank and Joe both seemed very personable, and Frank did convince me that he was pretty thorough in his leak checks. There was definitely a language barrier with the installers, and we had difficulty reaching Joe when no one seemed to be able to figure out why the units were not matching up. Was it partly my fault that I led Frank to the wrong inside unit initially? I suppose so, but I'm more than a little disappointed that they didn't figure it out sooner, and then essentially made the same mistake again. read more

Horrible service,they dont answer the phone or return the calls.The owner Bo Michael is rude .they contracted with american home sheild insurance .In the hot summer we were without AC for over 7 days .they came diagnosed the problem and told us they have to order the part which will be 2-3 days .they told us it will be fixed before the weekend.They got the part but they dint pick up the part and they told us the schedule is full so they cant fix it until monday.The y never answer the phone and when you leave messages they never return the calls .The owner Bo michaels told me because I was upset that he would give it to another vendor i have to wait another week before ac fixed.If it werent the american home sheild I would not hire them their attitude is bad,they are unprofessional,rude,they dont answer phone calls and they threaten you because you are at their mercy.I wishthere were less than 1 star I could rate them. read more
