This review is going to sound really strange, but I swear it's real and I have a corresponding review for Young Automotive to confirm my tale. TL;DR: Excellent customer service, friendly, and followed through with my request, even a week after I had made it. A few weeks ago my father in-law messaged me asking to keep an eye open for New Belgium Oakspire beer. It's a limited release and he was a fan last year (which was a chore to find) and he wasn't to get some if I ran across any. I went to New Beligiums website and found that the nearest grocery store that carried it was Econofoods in Sturgeon Bay. Sturgeon Bay is a 2 hour drive from my home, but I like taking drives and it was autumn so I figured, screw it, I will take half a day off work and take a drive to get some beer for my in-law (and a 6 pack for myself). I called Econofoods asking if they had the beer. They took my number down and said they would check and call me back. The made good on this and called me in about 15 minutes, letting me know that they had the beer and that they would set however many I wanted aside for me to come and pick up. It was raining cats and dogs when I left, so my idea of a nice autumn drive went out the window. Even better, once I got into town my cars check engine light came on. I didn't think much of it, but almost immediately after getting onto bridge on 57 my car gave me a warning that my transmission was overheating. Yikes! I pulled over, found a mechanic, and got into a loner car and then headed over to Econofoods. They tons of the beer I was looking for, I loaded up the cart (completely forgetting that they had set aside beer for me) and headed home. A week later, about when I was going to return to pick up my car, I received a voice mail from Econofoods saying that they still had my beer up at the desk and asked me if I was going to be coming in to pick it up. A WEEK LATER. I felt like a total dick for leaving them hanging like that, but was taken back by the fact that not only had they held onto it for me, but that they took the time to call me back and leave me a message. Needless to say when I picked up my car I swung over to Econofoods, apologized for waiting so long to pick up my beer, and bought the 3 6 packs they set aside for me. read more

I shop here for specialty items that my local store doesn't carry. Sometimes I will do a major shopping trip if I happen to be in town on grocery day. The store is arranged sort of strange with a fresh flower display in the middle of the store. This breaks the store up in to 2 sets of aisles. It is a large store so I find my self looking around to find certain items. There is a bakery with fresh baked goods daily and a very nice deli with helpful attendants. They have a pretty nice organic and natural food section as well as the specialty items I mentioned. The prices are reasonable. They offer the opportunity to sign up for an "Econo card" which gives a discount on certain items. There are several checkouts that have you bag your own groceries. I have also heard they will make deliveries to people's homes. I really appreciate a store that provides this service. read more

Boy do I wish we had one of these stores close by to where I live. While my wife and I were scouting about in Door Country for our first time, we wanted to pick up a few things to bring back to the hotel room. We were initially going to the Supper Walmart right next door then we noticed Econo Foods right next door. Being one who always likes trying something different and not a huge fan of Walmart, I didn't hesitate to come here. I'll admit, as we were driving up, the outside of the place was a bit deceiving and I was not expecting much and counting on a old, run down place. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised when I walked and seen how new it looked and not to mention the impressive quantity of food. While here we selected items from the fruits, nuts, some deli meats and of course some backed goods too! All of it was fresh! I also liked the layout of the store. Very easy to navigate and logically set up so you have a good idea on where to find what your looking for. The aisles where wide and the entire store was well lit. Upon check out, it was quick, the kids were very courteous, and even offered to help take our groceries to the car! ... boy I wish we had and Econo foods here instead of Jewel! read more

Best cookies and chocolate chip muffins in the bakery. We love Econo Foods and wish we had a grocery store as good as this one in our hometown. I actually buy some of their generic products and haul them home because they taste better than anything I can get in my local grocer. read more

Wandered in here while on vacation and in need of hot soup. Pros: - Big supermarket. Had everything you'd expect to find and expect to need. - Friendly employees. The checkout people were (seemingly very young) folks who were smiley and friendly--a nice change from the usually-grumpy checkout employees of Chicago grocery stores. Cons: - Prices seemed a bit steep, but then again, it does take a bit more effort to cart food all the way up to Door County. - Hot foods selection seemed to be lacking--mostly fried chicken, fried potatoes. Only two small containers of soup (I got chicken dumpling--it was nice and hot, but nothing special. Then again, it IS grocery store soup). All in all, a decent place to go. read more

Econo foods is a truly wonderful budget option for visitors to Door County and residents alike. You need a club card of some kind to get some special discounts, but they have great prices on all the essentials, and a wide variety of nearly any vacation food, snacks, meat, drinks etc. one could possibly want. read more

I can't tell you how many expired dairy products I've purchased from this store. It's like they never rotate their products. I don't mean a day or two expired. I just found yogurt that I purchased a week ago or so that expired in July. JULY! That's nearly two months expired! That is unacceptable. I am now sure to check the dates on the few things I still purchase in this store. But you should be able to be reasonably confident that they are not selling you moldy products. read more

Tried cashing an check without my ID and the staff were terribly rude and gave me steps to make my check unusable that's 257 dollars down the drain and kicked us out when we displayed our anger so overall costumer service is at an all time low and compatibles with customers is absolutely disgusting and something that needs to be worked on I would say avoid at all cost read more

Full sized grocery store as you are heading into Door County. Minus two stars for high prices (ex: apples almost $3/lb), plus a star for being open 24 hours. Major tip: do not forget to have cashier scan their store card for you (unless you are a local and got one), or high prices become astronomic prices... read more
