I can't say enough about this place! So.much.fun I went twice in one day!!!!! I have heard of it, but never desired to go because I am like "who wants to pay to be mistreated? However it was the most fun I have had in the longest time!!!!! Number one the servers are rude in a funny way, not an uncomfortable way. They make fun of your hair, throw the hats and napkins, but never rude. I also love the fact they they dance as well, so your server who just said your coat is aluminum foil colored has to dance which is so cool. The ambiance is fun with tons of nostalgia included and the portions are ample. It's been over 25 years since being at an Ed Debevic's - this did not disappoint. Appreciate the waiter and his interactions with the kiddo - the kid didn't know what to expect and was a little stunned to start but rallied and tried being witty with the waiter instead of rude. It was fun to watch the banter. Food was typical - I enjoyed my avocado Caesar salad - the kids burger was good - he enjoyed it. Visited Eddie D's for brekky on our recent trip to Chicago. Wasn't sure what to expect as it seemed like a potential tourist trap. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. Ordered biscuits and gravy, a breakfast skillet, scrambled eggs, fruit cup, and milkshakes (odd choice at 9:30 in the morning but that's how my brother in law rolls). Everything was tasty. Two negatives...their coffee game is kinda basic. Was looking for a cappuccino but all they have is regular coffee. Secondly, they have this gimmick were the staff is a little salty towards the guests. Didn't hate it but it wasn't my thing either. Fortunately our server didn't really seem to buy into it. Funny, acerbic and a throwback atmosphere for all ages. The food is surprisingly tasty, with enough variety to please the kiddos and adults alike. Over-the-top burgers, shakes, salads, and soups. I had the grilled cheese for grownups with tomato basil soup and it was comfort food to the max. The servers did a great job of being nerdy and rude, but also got the orders correct and delivered to the right diner. We went on a Wednesday evening and it was cold outside. My only complaint was that it was uncomfortably "freezing" in the restaurant. None of us took off our coats, hats, and scarfs. The gloves came off only to facilitate eating. When ever someone new comes to visit us we had locations as must see or experience restaurants. Ed's has always been one of those places. The new location is amazing in its decor, miss the old bathroom catch phrases, and the food was still on spot. So happy to put Ed's back on the list to visit with guest not from Chicago area once again. Yes we even had the fun of seeing the show. My only disappointment was our server seemed off a bit but he did make sure we had all we needed. I'm just an ol'school guest who remembers the old location and how guest could be razed up for silly things. Especially if you have a new person as a guest who is clueless about the place. Over all we had a good time and the boyfriend said he would be back as the pulled pork he ordered tasted like hime for him in Iowa. Mission was a successful meal. read more

So you come here for the semi rude experience but for the most part the waiters weren't all that bad! Not sure if it was because I had my son with me or not. It was my first time here and was excited since I didn't get to go to Ed Debevic's before they had closed. It's a 50's theme diner. I should've ordered the burger but decided to go with the great big wiener (Chicago Style) and onion rings. My son opted for breakfast and ordered chocolate chip pancakes and bacon! My son liked what he ordered. The onion rings were great but that was about it. The hot dog bun was cold as well as the hotdog itself. They had a little dance show which was fun! The kids had so much fun! I didn't tell them much about the restaurant so everything was a surprise. When the waitress yelled at them the first time, it was classic. Classic place and a must see/experience when in Chitown. This is the third location I've been to and while I liked this one, the others felt more "divey" and a bit less commercial...if that makes sense. Parking is tough...but that's par for the course in Chicago. You really need to have other things to do in/around the area to justify the cost. But...we had a blast!! read more
