We knew about the rudeness and jokey stuff before going in. What we didn't know was that some of the food was awful. We were there for breakfast and at 3:30pm I'm still suppressing burps. My husband had a burger and fries and said it was good. I had eggs, biscuit and gravy, sourdough toast, and sausage. Food was not anywhere near hot nor warm. One biscuit? Eggs were fine. After we left, my husband said they charged $4.95 for the toast. Was that on the menu? No. Was that on the menu on-line? No. I took the toast and one sausage home. They were okay. The ritual rudeness was not funny in any way. Yeah, yeah, it was supposed to be entertaining. Maybe it was cute back in the day, but it just seems juvenile and nasty now. The service was outstanding and they kept us entertained and excited! The atmosphere of the restaurant really screams 80s dinner which is so fun. Out of all the "kid focused" restaurants in Chicago this had ascended to my favorite. With that tidbit aside the food is still pretty damn terrible but the entertainment factor here alone is worth the price of bad food/admission. I do however think that the "sassiness" & rude comments are geared for slightly older kids. The ramifications could be unbearable if your kids are already headed for inappropriate behavior. The staff put on a dance routine & gave my daughter a complimentary dessert & sang for her birthday which is MORE than I can say for the majority of places. I planned a trip to Ed Debevics for my best friends bachelorette party for the last day, as I couldn't think of a better way to end our trip. We came in, and initially everyone was so friendly that it left us, wondering if they had completely changed their business model. Once we were seated, a server named Sugarfoot came over to help, dressed as sort of a hobo clown cross that was fun. From the get-go, he was very playful with us, and always harassing us whether he stopped by to exchange a few words or smack the hats off her heads and menus out of our hands. My favorite thing he probably did was walking by and throwing a handful of napkins at us to give us our napkins. There was a lot of dancing, some great commentary by everyone, and a plethora of harassment whether from our server, or any others. The food was good, the turkey burger was described as incredibly juicy, the regular burger was described as a little drier as was the bun, and the sliders were the same as well. The fries were good, and I enjoyed my Chicago dog. Looooots of dick jokes from him about getting a wiener and had to publicly state that I needed practice before taking on their 11" one haha. It was an amazing time in this cool, retro themed diner and lots of great signage on the walls and funky outfits donned by the staff. Although I don't get to eat here often, we had a great time and loved all of it. Just make sure you've got a real open sense of humor before visiting because I felt like my answers might get me cancelled at some points through the visit lol. Pro: the birthday song, omg. This is the most kid friendly restaurant in streeterville. Fun 50s diner with sarcastic staff, entertainment with dancing! And hats to wear. The kids loved it- they were entertained without any toys or crayons. The prices are typical for the area (expensive!) But the food was tasty- I had a Reuben with a side salad that was enjoyable. Chicken fingers and fries were a bit salty for me, but fine for everyone else. Was a a great, fun time and experience for all the nieces and nephews. Took my daughter (19) and her friends in for a Drag Queen Brunch. Everyone had a blast! Service was great! Our Server (Cherry Bomb?) was attentive and had the just right amount of Sass. This was our first time visiting the new location and everything was new, clean and upgraded version of an old diner. Food was great! Two of us had breakfast and the other two ordered burgers. What a gem!!!! This place is new to the neighborhood (I work down the street) and is a revitalization of the old Ed debevic's that used to be in river north off Ontario street. As soon as you approach the building you can see it glowing with bright colors and dancing lights! It's the most fun thing to happen to downtown dining in forever. I took my aunt and grandmother for a nostalgic burger and fries this evening and have to say it was better than I remember as a kid. You can tell they've upped their game and gone full gourmet with the menu. (Minus the crinkle fries... yum!) also love the homemade pickles. (Double yum) Our server was "Dread" (no idea what his real name was) but he was hilariously miserable and played the part perfectly. Can't wait to go back! read more
